i am a rose lover. though rose scents can be hit or miss on me, depending on what other notes are present. i tend to go for deep, dark dusky roses like in gypsy queen, or victorian rose scents along the lines of london or marie, but this one is very different! this reminds me first and foremost of this rose black tea i had, and how it might smell if you added some cinnamon to it. it's a spicy-rose-tea scent and it's very pretty but a bit comforting at the same time. perfect for winter! i like this quite a bit and may have to get a big bottle!

wow, this is very fresh and green, and is a typically "masculine" scent. i'm not sure what i expected from balsam of peru, but it wasn't this! in the imp it smells slightly fresh and i can smell the black pepper, but on my skin that balsam is amped very high and there's just a smidgen of black pepper. i think i sense the tiniest bit of skin musk, but not much honey. this has a lot of throw and is very strong. it really isn't my kind of scent, so i will swap it.

this starts off with violet and green tea and the green tea fades fairly quickly on me. i think i am getting mostly vanilla orchid with a white musk background on the drydown. it's like a sweet, soft floral tea scent. i like this a lot and will keep my imp but probably don't need a whole bottle. despite being a yule, it's a perfect springtime or summer scent.

i really liked this a lot at the outset, which is usually the opposite of how things go for me and perfume. anyway, it was a nice black rose with a hint of myrrh-something warm and pretty. however, once it dried and settled into my skin, it became mostly wood with rose. not bad necessarily, but the rose turns a bit sour with the wood mixture and i don't like it as much. i love rose scents, but my opinion changes a lot depending on other components. this one is just too woody for my tastes.

The Miskatonic Valley Yuletide Faire Atmosphere Spray
theseagrows replied to stellamaris's topic in Atmosphere
wow, i wish i could smell all the notes in this, but when i sprayed it, it's strong and sweet and very foodie and smells like maple syrup to me. pure maple syrup and can't smell the other notes. -
Bonfire smoke rising through a cloud of ceremonial incense, encircled by swirling autumn leaves and a dribble of blood red musk. this is a very autumnal, smoky red musk scent with a hint of the incense. luckily, the leaves are subtle, but this scent really does scream autumn to me. i think either the smoke or the incense is most prominent on me, but i'm not sure which. the red musk is actually subtler here than it is in some other scents. it is usually a powerful note that comes to the forefront, but here it seems to blend in quite well. there really must be just a "dribble" of it in this scent, to back up the incense and smoke.

this is an interesting scent! i am really falling for tobacco-white musk scents lately, so i guess that is why i was drawn to this scent. this scent smells very dry to me, and woody. but with a definite vanilla element to it. at first it reminds me of the scent of rain when it first starts as it's hitting the sidewalk, but then the tonka and vanilla come through more and it's more a dry vanilla scent. i really dont' smell much patchouli, so there must be a small amount in this. the coconut is subtle and in the background supporting. i like this, but don't love it. sometimes vanilla turns a bit plasticky on me, and here it is on the verge. not quite plasticky, but a bit like play-doh. not sure if i want to keep this or not.

oh, i really wanted to love this one! i love the myth of lilith and this scent sounded like it'd be just up my alley, but it is a bit too sweet for me. i love rose-wine scents but i think the added honey, which my skin tends to amp, sends this into cloying territory. probably after an hour it'll smell good on me, but for now it is way too sweet and strong for my liking. something in it is definitely reminiscent of bordello, but without the softness and vanilla.

let me premise this by saying, that in general, i am not a foody-scent-person, unless there is a floral component, then i can work with it. however, in the fall months, i occasionally like to wear a pumpkiny or slightly more foody scent, which is why i tried this. i also tend to dislike fruity scents, so you know, mango and all. so please take note of this in my review, as there are very few foody scents that i love. starting out, this is bright, citrussy-sweet mango, which isn't bad, but it is drowned out by a cakey smell. i dunno, that cakey smell just smells like burnt food on my skin, so it's not really wowing me. after about 10-15 minutes, the cake smells less burnt and the mango is subtler. i think the spices are coming out now. thankfully the milk isn't that prominent, because milk notes often turn rancid on me. i like the mango tea thing going on here, it's very pretty. i guess i just wish it was that with the spices and no cakey-sugar scent!

at first sniff, i thought "red musk" and that was it for a few minutes. i kept thinking, "oh another warm, sultry red musk scent. i have tons of these already!" but then i waited a liiiiitle bit longer and the honey and champaca start to come through, and it becomes quite beautiful. luckily this honey works well on me. a lot of times, BPAL's honey note turns dry and straw-like on me, like in O, but this honey is sweet and pretty and soft, without being too sweet. definitely a keeper!

i'm not really feeling this one, because the jasmine is amping on me (which happens often) and it's turning a bit odd. i was very excited about ALL the other notes, but the jasmine is just too overpowering and i think the mix of vanilla and jasmine smells a little sickly sweet on me. there is a hint of leather in the back and the sandalwood and amber make a nice warm backdrop, without really making themselves too obvious.

i have such mixed feelings on this! it is a very clean, fresh scent, which i tend to steer clear of (for the most part), but i have fallen in love with oakmoss and bpal's nectarine note, so i had to try this one. at first it's straight up nectarine, i couldn't tell it apart from ebisu, however once the scent sinks in the backing notes come through, and the oakmoss in this is just gorgeous. bpal's oakmoss smells amazing on me for some reason. it's really addictive, and when it's an obvious note like this, i tend to love the scent. the longer this stays on, the more i am loving it, despite the sweetness of the berry. this scent is very wet and green, and i think, perfect for summer on a hot and sunny day.

i got a sniffie of this in a swap! it's a very fresh floral scent, smells like flowers really do when you walk by, almost like a flower shop with a hint of additional sweetness, from the tea and musk. i could see this as a good summer or spring scent, because it's light. i think i am mostly getting green tea, orange, lily and geranium. i don't smell the warmth of the carnation and usually tuberose is really noticeable, but it's subtle in this. glad i got to try this, though it's not really a "me" scent.

i received this as a frimp, literally one week after i was on the east coast and had the pleasure of visiting the mutter museum! so that was some really cool synchronicity. on to the scent: yep, this is a sweet, dusty vanilla scent and has that beeswax/candle sort of note in it that i've smelled in other bpal scents. i do not like the candle/beeswax note. it's weird and sweet and somehow kind of creeps me out or makes me feel unsettled, like someone above posted. which works for a mutter scent! i just don't want to smell like this at all. i'm very glad i got to experience it though!

this pretty much smells like shampoo to me. it's very very sweet with my skin chemistry, kind of an aquatic-floral. i think maybe it's the pink musk, i love musks of all kinds but blue and pink musk seem to give me a bit of trouble and be too cool and/or aquatic for my tastes. i get no bergamot or leather. i'm not even sure i get night blooming jasmine. it's very different than i imagined.

i have really been getting into scents that epitomize "white" or pale ethereal scents, so i figured this might fall into that category. white phoenix kind of exhibits this, but not till it's been on my skin for about half an hour. before that i get a slightly sour floral...probably from the magnolia, i'm guessing. i am sensing little frangipani, if any and a hint of osmanthus. i am not getting the orchid or lavender strongly. by the time it's dry, it's a powdery floral, i think it's mostly cotton flower and crystal musk with a hint of white sandalwood. i like this phase the best, thankfully, and i like it A LOT, i am just not sure if it's worth waiting through the initial sour-floral phase. i feel like i've tried another similar scent, maybe enraged bunny musk(?) but it's been so long that i've tried it that i can't be sure.

damn, i was hoping for a bunch of vanilla and vanilla orchid in this, but it's a little more cloying and fruity on me. i think it's pretty much all rice wine and grapefruit. it's a very cheerful, sweet, youthful scent, which totally isn't what i'm usually into so basically it's a citrussy fruity-floral. not really my thing, so i'll have to pass this one on!

oooh this is pretty. i get the dorian-ness and an added leather note but not that super strong black leather note, more subtle and a bit sweet. this scent is very gleaming and otherworldly to me, perfect for jareth! i have been shying away from more masculine scents lately, but i am really liking this. i love dorian and i like leather as a note, so that's probably why. after about an hour, when the leather goes into the background, this one becomes perfect on me. warm sensual and golden but with a hint of the purpley lilac. kind of has a similar feel to TKO but less sweet and more "dark". i would love to wear this as a going out scent. it also is in the same vein as MAC MV3 which i also adore. definitely need a bottle of this one!

i love me an oakmoss scent, and am quite fond of white musk, however this is pretty much straight up white musk on me, with a hint of sage, so it's kind of unremarkable. i don't get any black musk and the oakmoss is there, but it's subtle. it turns a bit powdery at the end. i like it, but i think i'll have to try it again later to see if it's a keeper.
-
what an odd scent this is, and a morpher. at first i think it was all sage, white musk and lilac, then some marzipan-y note came through for awhile. now i smell the sweetness of the marzipan with a weird sour floral. maybe the everlasting flower? this smelled odd at first, but possibly doable, but now it's straight up sour on me, unfortunately.
-
hmm, i think this is nearly all lily on me. i am getting a strong, sweet cloying floral, but not any mums or roses. perhaps it is the lily and daphne, since i am not familiar with daphne as a note at all. there may be some amber/frankincense way in the background, but if so, it's subtle. this is just a strong, sweet floral on me, and sadly, this is not for me, so i'll have to swap it.
-
hmm, i was apprehensive about this because of the strawberry, but i like all the other notes. unfortunately, the strawberry is plasticky on me and the vanilla is very foody. there may be a hint of tobacco in here, but i am mostly smelling the vanilla and strawberry. i was hoping for much more tea rose with just a hint of strawberry for this one. oh well, i am still glad i got a chance to try it, because i really like the idea of the lace scents!
-
honestly, i mostly just smell leather. my skin may amp it in this, because it is utterly dominating this blend on me. i think i can pick up the sage, copal and oakmoss, but that's about it. it's a lighter leather scent than i've smelled. light and earthy with a strong leather note, on me. i like the idea of this, but wish the leather hadn't been so strong, it just smells way too traditionally masculine for my tastes. off to swaps.

Victorian Virgin with Cherubs: Salon Bath Oil
theseagrows replied to forspecial_plate's topic in Thermae
i've had this for awhile, but just finally tried it. it smells better in the bottle than it does in the bath, unfortunately. it's not bad in the bath, but it was too green/treelike for my personal tastes. when i sniffed the bottle, i got more of a chocolate-mint-floral scent, but in the bath it was pure greenery. on my skin now, i smell a pure herbal green scent, and no chocolate or amber, maybe just a hint of mint. nice but not one of my favorites. -
i wasn't sure what angel's trumpet ore angelica smell like , but it seems one or both of them are sweeter florals. this scent is mostly floral and maybe a hint of tea on my skin? it's a sweeter floral, along the lines of lotus, tuberose and gardenia. it's a bit too sweet for my tastes, but is very springlike, and would be a good spring/summer scent.
