    Trick or Treat

anyone who knows me at all knows that i pretty much stock up on candy corn in the month of october in order to get through the subsequent eleven months. whilst perusing BPAL to make an order, i came across this bottle. i immediately sent a text message to my fiance: "is it ridiculous for me to buy a perfume that smells of candy corn?" his reply: "as long as it's not June when you wear it, no." the rest, as they say, is history. upon opening the bottle i fell in love. i smell butter (which i am swearing off of for the sake of my jiggly thighs as well as my lactose intolerance) as well as caramel and butterscotch. i don't get a true feel for candy corn, but this is still pretty amazing. the scent stayed pretty true to first whiff as it dried down on my skin. it reminds me a bit of Eat Me as well as of Ventriloquist's Dummy - both of which i adore and horde compulsively. unlike some of the other scents, i notice that this one fades very quickly leaving me smelling slightly of kettle corn but it was definitely not unpleasant. if i were a child, poison control would certainly have been phoned as i would surely have drunk the bottle.

scotchgrrl had it right when she said "pencil shavings." below is my (slightly edited) write-up of the scent, actually done the day i wore it. i made the unfortunate mistake of dabbing a bit on my wrists in math class this afternoon. i almost immediately wanted to scrub down to bone so as to remove the vile and nastiness from my skin. i have a bit of a head cold, so i haven't worn anything scented in a few days, exception being cocoa butter. i didn't notice the scent when i opened the imp. i put a drop on one wrist and then rubbed it into the other. the first thing i noticed was that it smells very strongly of pencil. like, i could open a pencil sharpener and roll about in the shavings for a bit. i really hope this is merely the fact that i am ill, because otherwise i'm going to be a little upset. the eau de no. 2 faded rather quickly and i was left with PATCHOULI. if you know me at all, know that i hate patchouli with every ounce of my being. i find it vile and repugnant and not something i would have voluntarily subjected myself to. i like it in other things as a faint note, but this was not faint by any stretch of the word. i went from smelling like pencil to reeking of unwashed hippie. neither of these is appealing to me. and being that i'm already ill, i am suppressing the urge to sick up. this one goes into the give-away-and-never-again bin. i have never had to wash a scent off with such vigor as i've done with this.

    Monster Bait: Ventriloquist Dummy

in the bottle: i pretty much want this scent to have my children. seriously. it smells of candy - and only the most wonderful kinds! i can pick out caramel and butterscotch immediately. on skin: it still smells delightfully of candy! *swoon* there is a slightly woody and nutty undertone, but not so much that i fear elephant stampede and licking. dried down: sadly, the wood has overtaken the sweet. it resurfaces now and again, but more of a brown sugar sweet than the warm caramel and butterscotch that i fell in love with immediately. i can also pick out hazelnut which actually turns my stomach, but it's not so strong that i retch any time i smell my own perfume. i'm definitely happy that i got this one, although it'll still be a bit of playing with and combining with other things to really get it to the level of my day-to-day favourites.
