    Hallow-e’en, 1914

At first I am getting greenery (ivy and maple), followed by a rather sweet freshly dug earth scent. I am thinking the sweetness is coming from the honey and the fig, because I am not specifically getting any of those. Luckily, because honey tends to overtake scents on me, but not this time, yay! It gets sweeter as it dries, and the earth gets more subdued. Still getting a lot of maple, though. I am probably getting a full bottle, because this is such a unique and striking scent. It could work for any kitchen witch or Gothic beauty out for a cemetery stroll in the afternoon. It's beautiful!

    Pumpkin I (2014)

This feels like a perfect Yule blend for me! Sweet, glowing pumpkin, spices and the sting of hot black tea! Yum! It's creamy and soft and slightly buttery, but not cloying. I am contemplating a full bottle for the coming cold months. This will be sure to cheer me up when the weather is wintry!

    Autumn - Overlooked My Knitting

In the bottle I can almost not smell anything at all! On my skin it becomes a comfy, soft currant scent - probably with ambergris, but I'm not too sure what that smells like... I can see how one can associate this with knitting: it feels warm like woolen yarn and no note dominates the others. I really like it, but it's very faint on my skin, so I might not need a full bottle. Will definitely be keeping my decant, though!

    Avunculus

In the bottle I definitely get the orange blossom and the coconut. On my skin, however, the honey completely takes over and dominates everything. Which is not surprising, as honey has a tendency to amp on me, but I was hoping it wouldn't do it this time, as all the other notes are win for me. I'm not getting any amber or pear Overall, not for me - too sweet and too much honey!

    Cold weather suggestions?

YES to Kubla Khan! It dries down to just the sweetest, smokiest, loveliest vanilla ever Excellent for a cold day. My imp has gone AWOL, sadly, so I'll have to wait for my upcoming bottle order to wear it again, but it shall be glorious!
  6. I can't remember if I posted in here before about this, but here goes: If you loved Eve (OLLA) or are curious about her, you might want to give Cicuta (Vampires Don't Sleep Alone) a go; while it's not as complex as Eve, it shares some vibes with her - the incense-shrouded dusty rose and the slightly spiced edge. I think it's a fairly good replacement for Eve, and I certainly love both of them

If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!

If you enjoy The Black Rider, I would recommend trying Rogue from the RPG line as well. It shares that rugged leather note If you liked Sin, you might like Vixen, too!

    Stormclouds Over The Midway

I don't get any ozone from this, actually. It's mainly a wonderful dark "purple" incense, not entirely unlike the incense in Midnight on the Midway. The two scents are definitely cousins. It's very beautiful and has decent, but not overwhelming, throw. I like it a lot and am very happy to have found a bottle!

    Verdandi

This is a ripe, deep apple scent on me, with a slight bit of shadow from the amber. It's rather faint once it hits my skin and it doesn't last very long. While it's there, however, it's really pretty. It's well suited for an overcast autumn day, I think!

    Le Lèthè

Note: Red musk amper here! So, this is mostly red musk on me, unsurprisingly. When I concentrate, I can pick out a bit of the tobacco and resins on drydown as well, but it really is mostly a heavy, sweet red musk. So it's not really for me, sadly.

    Kubla Khan

I really wanted to try this one, as I once took a course on the history of the Mongol Empire, and have been super interested in it ever since. I love the idea of Kubla Khan's mystical palace as a scent There is a lot going on in this scent! From the start I definitely get an icy feel from it that evokes the ice caverns mentioned in the description. For a while I thought I was getting a blast of orange blossom, but it must have been the mandarin, looking at the notes... There is a smoky edge to the scent, too, and a definite sweetness that permeates everything. Sugared lily, maybe? The smoke could be attributed to the opium or the tobacco, but either way it is very subdued and lovely. Upon drydown, the vanilla really comes out to play and nicely rounds out the entire scent. It's very hard to describe overall, but it is extremely beautiful. I might need a bottle of this! I'd say if you enjoy smoky-sweet vanilla scents, you might also enjoy this. Also if you're just interested in a little scent journey through the old world, this is perfect.

    Venustas

It starts out smelling somewhat like lemony tea! Pleasant enough, but definitely not what I expected The tea sinks to the background and makes room for the fougere fairly quickly. All in all this feels reminiscent of Dorian, but lighter. I get very little resin, but some vanilla, too. It's rather faint on me, and I really hope it gets a bit stronger with age, as what I'm smelling is really quite lovely, it's just kind of well-hidden because of the faintness. It's a light, but definitely grown-up scent, feminine, but with an edge. I really like it!

    Ghost Houses

This is mainly green grass and various flowers on me. Not that I mind, it's very beautiful as it is! The amazing thing in this scent is that I very clearly get the rusted iron and the sepulchral mist, but they are just beautiful and comfortable and not sharp at all. In fact it seems like the whole scent is flowers covered by ghostly mist. So evocative of the concept. It's just so pretty! It doesn't last very long on my skin, but while it's there it's really nice.

    (Not So) Penitent (Mini) Magdalene

This is all Holy beeswax, Batman on me. Upon drydown I get a little of the vanilla, too, but not much. Me and beeswax are not usually good friends, as it tends to go overly sweet on my skin. It happened here as well I had hoped for the kind of candle wax from Loi Krathong, which is beautiful on me... I will hold onto the bottle for a little while and see if it mellows out a bit, but so far it's not really my thing.

    Thy Godfather's Present

I put this on before I went online and read the notes, and it really surprised me! To me this is like a sweet, maybe slightly white floral, but I can't distinguish the individual notes. I'm not actually getting any herbalness from it. It is quite pleasant, but maybe a little too non-distinct for me? I don't know, but it's probably not something I would reach for very often, but I'm glad I got to try it.

    Catherine

The orange blossom is the strongest note on me, which I certainly don't mind - I love orange blossom! There is also a lot of rose coming in from the background, and a touch of herbalness from the rosemary. It doesn't have major throw on me, but I kind of like it that way - it's not super close to the skin, but has a sort of medium throw. The orange blossom and the rose play well together, combining to make a slightly sweet and rosy, slightly spiced citrus-floral atmosphere. It doesn't smell diabolic to me, haha! But it has a certain regality to it for sure. Overall, it's a slightly "zingy", spiced floral with a teensy bit of herbal to it. It is one of the most orange blossomy blends I have ever tried from BPAL, although Vixen remainds my favorite of those.

    October

This doesn't actually morph a lot on my skin. In the bottle it smells a bit like sweet maple leaves and…autumn atmosphere. It's much sweeter than I would have guessed from the description. I was a bit afraid of the "smoke" being too vetiver or too earthy, but it's really just a slightly dusty, not very prominent quality to the blend. Unfortunately it fades fairly quickly on me, so it needs frequent reapplications. I probably won't be hunting down a full bottle, but I'm happy with the partial I have

    Survival horror!

For emtpiness and isolation: Death on a Pale Horse The End of All Things: empty white musk and mint seeped with solemn lavender, doleful patchouli and vetiver, scythe-sharp yuzu and lime, with geranium bourbon, white sandalwood and calla lily. J-Horror This scent is spectral, draped in funeral white, and surges with otherworldly, malevolent rage: stargazer lily, white sandalwood, chrysanthemum, and shincha, with white mint, eucalyptus, licorice bark, and blood orange. Also, many of last Yule's Miskatonic blends are creepy as all hell and would fit for a foggy, frightening atmosphere, for example: A Low Candle-Lit Room Candle wax and waxen "skin," rotting leather and reeking damp wood, and the ashes of a yawning, cold fireplace. (this one made me incredibly uncomfortable!) The Burying-Ground Despair and desolation in a potter's field: black soil and memories of screams on the pyre.

    Violet Ray

The mint and violet are the strongest on me. It's a very sweet, almost sugared violet. The mint is not very powerful, so if you're afraid of the mint going BAM on you, you don't need to be. It's very well-behaved. It is pleasant and light and a little snuggly (purple musk?). I am very glad that I'm not getting very much lavender, because that has a tendency to go headachey on me, which isn't happening here. I am very happy I got this as a frimp in a swap recently, because I might not have chosen it by myself based on the description. But it's a very feminine and pretty scent that isn't too in-your-face, but not too faint either. I will definitely treasure my imp!

Apples?? Finding the right apple scent

Sjöfn is a very sweet, almost candy-apple-like scent from the General Catalog. I myself like it very much. It's apple, birch and apple blossom. There's also Poisoned Apple for a slightly deeper, but still life-like apple scent (also General Catalog). Those are the two I could think of that would be easy to obtain as well

    Non-Foody Pumpkin/Jack O'Lantern scent

Theme in Yellow is pretty much a jack o' lantern scent. It was one of last year's weenies, so it shouldn't be too hard to procure

    Yucca Giant-Skipper

I thought "white patchouli" might be more subtle than other patchoulis, but alas, this ended up straight up patchouli single note on me, which is what happens with most patch blends I suppose I can vaguely make out the vanilla when I know it's there, but not much else...

    Question Mark

This reminds me so much of a Yule scent, but I simply can't remember which one... At any rate, it should give you an idea of the sweet orangey smell of this one; it is also appropriate for Yule season! The orange and orange blossom are prominent, but still subdued enough to not completely take over the whole scent. I am not getting any cinnamon at all, so if you were worried about that note, you shouldn't be The orangey goodness is grounded by the other notes, and it is very well blended. No not sticks out over the other. I am glad I blind-ordered a bottle of this, because I'm sure it will get a lot of use in my home!

    What's the best coconut blend?

I don't usually do coconut scents very well, but I found that the "coconut bark" note in Loi Krathong went really pretty on my skin. It's like a dry, black coconut husk scent, and slightly in the background of the scent, so it doesn't overtake the entire blend. Obatala went to plastic on me!
