The cranberry is a lot fainter on my skin than on most people's. This is incensey-musk first, and if I didn't know it wasn't a patchouli scent, I would swear it is. It reminds me of Urd, another favorite. This is rich and spicy and incredibly well suited to the fall, people are right. As time passes it becomes a bit "redder" but still the musky incense lays on top of it, giving it a rough edge. It's almost nutty- that dry, dusty smell of a bin of nuts. Mixed with the fruit- a cranberry trail mix. Oh Lampades, I am part of your fan club now. How wonderful you are.

I had been awaiting a chance to try this for a long time, because, well, I'll try anything with patchouli. Wet, it's very incensey- it's a little musky for me, with no perceptible sweetness to soften it. I like it though, even though it's simpler than most BPAL scents. It's kind of woody, which I like. After 30 minutes it actually smells exactly the same- no morphing action on this one. Incense. I like how straightforward it is though. After an hour- still the same :>

Well, I don't have red and yellow candles but I have an orange tart, does that count? I need some of the mojo this promises so I annointed my wrists with it and was immediately innundated with a sweet fruity smell- though not sickeningly sweet at all- it's got something slightly spicy underneath. What a cheery, happy smell. It raises my spirits just to smell it faintly.

There is something very astringent about this wet. I smell...cinnamon and something else, dragon's blood, I think... Very mysterious. It's a sharp smell, but I don't know for sure what it is. A touch of clove in there, perhaps? Something nutty? It's almost chemical, really... I wouldn't be surprised to smell this in a shampoo... a cinnamon shampoo. I'm floundering here. Kinda peppery too? Very dragon's blood as more time passes. The DB grows stronger, but the cinnamon keeps it from being "armpit smell".

I am an Earth-scent girl so I was expecting to like this the most of the elementals! (I hear people have theorized that it has something to do with our signs, and I am a Scorpio-water sign through-and-through.) Anyway this is dark and musky, a dark green scent I'd say. It's woodsy and mossy and spicy. I like it, I do. It's a great scent for the "woody-scent" lovers in general. I can't pick out any of the notes, per se, just how it feels to me. There must be some kind of patchouli in here (which would explain my love). It seems to dry down into a sweeter-earthy. Not sweet like sugar, the sweetness that leaves can have. It's still nice.

Oooh it's somewhat of a desert-y smell, this is. Almond with a touch of cherry cola. After a while of sitting on my skin it becomes a bit like a root beer barrel plus a touch of almond. Very sweet. Too sweet for me, in the end.

Sylph- Air.... Ok, I didn't expect "Air" to appeal to me as an elemental. I am a Water sign and I gravitate towards scents representing earth more than anything else. This a delicious herby-lavender-citrus blend while on my wrist. It's incredibly calming and I am enjoying it. The citrus keeps it from being too sleepy of a scent. After about fifteen minutes the lavender takes a back seat to the citrus (vageuly bergamot) and the herbs. It dries eventually into something really herby.

Undine clearly didn't want to be opened, as the little imp handle broke off somewhere along the line. Hmmm I too smell vetiver. It's a sharp, charcoal-like scent, very musky. It is drying and I am beginning to smell something sweeter, like a carnation underneath it. Something floral, to be sure. Oh my, I just realized that it smells like a dark pond, rich with a dark sort of pond scum. It smells like a pond I used to fish in at summer camp- wet plants, murky water, something slightly sweet under it, wildflowers by the sure. It just gets more floral and less musky as time passes, but in a very "dried flowers" sort of way. I thought I smelled a hint of lime in there as well. Water is my element, but I tend to gravitate towards it's opposite. I don't connect with this scent in any way that makes me think it'd be helpful for meditation.

Well hello there London. This was a lab frimp, and one I might not have otherwise tried as I don't love rose on me. This smells like old Victorian rosewater toiletries. It's a much... pinker rose than most. It reminds me of dried rose petels, actually. It's a bit too much at first, but settles into a very nice soft rose. It's not bad, for a rose scent. I can see mixing this with an unscented hand lotion. A great rose-scent, one of the better BPAL roses.

Rose rose rose rosey rose! is what this shouts out while wet on my arm. And drying down- ROSE! and a few minutes later- ROSE! rosity rose rose... it's a very old-fashioned, dusky rose, a Caswell-Massey rose (I'm sure I am spelling that wrong.) I can see this in a lovely body lotion. It's very perfumey though... and kinda hurts my head. I can't really smell anything past that.

I too was expecting something a bit animalistic from my Buck Moon... but this is indeed one of the least describable scents I have ever tried. I can't think of a thing to compare it to! It's almost sweet and creamy, but with a mossy undertone and maybe a hint of citrus. In the bottle it's like a grapefruit-musk with a touch of cream but on my skin, very woodsy. The creaminess comes out as it sits on my skin. Yum dee yum yum. I think there might be something ashy in there too. This was one of the few times I had to look at the reviews here because I just.. have no idea what I'm smelling. All of my descriptions are just guesses! It grows sweeter and sweeter as time passes but never becoms "too much."

To me all scents purporting to represent water or the ocean smell the same, from the ones found in the drugstore to the higher quality BPAL interpretations. Dunwich (which I am now calling my dog, whose name is London and doesn't deserve this indignity) smells of spring flowers for me.. while wet it was typically faux-oceanic, now it is a sweet floral, very pale. If I really smelled this out of the window of my car I'd be tempted to slow down and inhale deeply, not shudder at the disturbing ambience of a wrecked village. It's ... changing to a dark green scent as time passes. I feel as though I am smelling the green stems of fresh flowers, and a bit of the earth. One of the greener scents that I ever have smelled. A touch of fresh cut grass. (Maybe halfway between Lush's Tramp and Soap Sod.) This is why I insist on trying even BPAL scents that sound like I'd hate them.... because I tend to loathe florals and aquatics and ... I like this imp enough to keep it! Madness. Followup thought- be patient with it and wait for the green!

What a great scent for summer- cool, refreshing, stimulating. My Tulz(s)cha also has great throw- I can smell the gorgeous mint wafting around my space. It's a tingly sort of smell... light and green. It makes me feel cooler just by the smell. I am imagining mixing this into a light summer lotion :> It mingles nicely with citrus scents as well. Mmmm. This is what I imagined Numb should smell like, because this really beats the summer heat.

Wow, what a surprise. I thought I'd be disliking this to be sure. It just didn't jump out at me! So let's see... it's sweet and musky all at once, with a touch of wood to it. I do detect the maple, but it's an undertone and doesn't cause the scent to become too sweet. It _IS_ like a stick of incense... would definitely make a great room scent because it's better than most incense, much more interesting. Like incense + jasmine + maple? God, that sounds like it'd be nasty but somehow it isn't. I'd like to be the type of girl whose apartment smelled like this too... mmmm. It smells smokier on the inside of my wrist than the outside. I am so torn. I love this, but I'm not sure I love it on _me_. It's not leaving my apartment though; my oil burner and it are going to become quite close.

Oh my god... this is another amazing CN scent for me. I am surprised. It's spicy and the cinnamon really comes out on me. The pine takes a backseat, which is nice because it prevents Geek from smelling like cleaning solution. Geek is going to be the perfect autumn scent- dusky, smoky, herby.... I do smell the patchouli; it lends it a bit of a "rough" aroma. The wood is really strong but the underlying spicy smell rounds it out. I can smell the ceder in this but also a nice layer of gingerbread cookie. Wet and dry this settles onto me and remains consistent. It doesn't seem to fade particularly quickly either, much to my relief. It's the kind of scent you must lean closer to, that draws you in with it's many layers.

Oh... my.... god.... I love this in the same way I love Urd. Wet it's got that fruity-musk scent to it. It's spicy and sweet, alluring, like it has vanilla in it perhaps even though that's not a listed ingredient. This is one of those rare scents that moves me so much I can feel my eyes tear up. I can smell the smoke and the lemon in it. Oh swooon. It's just amazing on me. So smokey-sweet. In the drydown it gets more leather- like a jacket that has turned musky and sweet from rubbing up against many types of perfume and body lotion. Torture King was not one I expected to like so much because I hadn't heard anything about it... but GAHHHHH.... I can see this on a man, but it belongs on me too.

A glowing red and flickering scent: warm, lurid, seductive. Do I detect a bit of dragon's blood in here? Fire Eater is a little spicy as well, a little floral. It's somewhat, and may I emphasize the somewhat like Lush's Potion. I mean it's like a spicy carnation in there. I don't think I'm liking this one. It settles in as a weirdly traditional perfume, kinda ...cloying and stinky. I'll be patient with it. Actually, after some time it has begun to smell like some awful floral Victoria's Secret perfume, Rapture perhaps. Ew ew ew. The dragon's blood has faded and now it's a golden floral.
-
Oh sweet lord. I wasn't expecting to love this. I just reached into my pile of CN imps and chose blindly. It is... one of those scents that made me exclaim out loud. It's swoonworthy. Lemon, cocoa, vanilla, musk... it's not overly sweet but slightly tart and dusky as well. It's delectable; I want to lick my arm but I also just want to sit and smell my imp and roll around happily. I am beside myself. Amazing.

Foundation of Fortune
aidenraine replied to joseybird's topic in Prosperity, Success, and Good Fortune
I am not doing active spellwork or anything, but I needed some career fortune today and figured this might help. It's a really earthy scent, like smoked wood. It has a bit of pepper and perhaps some ginger root in it. I can compare it somewhat to Lush's Cosmic Dreamcatcher massage bar. There scent that reminds me of Chinese medicine shop must be the ginger. Definitely woody. After an hour: smokey woodsy herby still. Very pleasant and meditative. I'd like to wear this while doing yoga. -
My first impresion was "Mmmmm almonds" and I thought this was going to be a sweet scent. Unfortunately... it morphed quickly and became something more like mold. Yes, moldy basement. Ugh. Perhaps it's the vetiver and oakmoss in it. I can still smell some underlying sweetness but the muskiness is very sour on my skin. Giving it some time, it becomes a bit less moldy and a bit more spicy. It tingles my nose and makes it a bit numb when I sniff my wrist. More time, still moldy/ musty. Smells like the underside of a heavy rock. Eventually the mold dies down and the sweetness comes out. NOW I like it- but I can't wait through the mold to get here.

Wow is this rosey. It smelled that way inb the vial and on me it's Rose++++ Time passes and it dries... into rose. Pink pink roses. Now, I like rose but usually like it cut with something sweet or spicy. This grows somewhat powdery on me after a few minutes. It's like a nice rose talc. This is just wafting around the room for me and smelling really traditionally perfumey. It's causing me and my husband headaches. It sweetens as time passes and becomes even more girlie / old fashioned but still very rosey. I think this is a bit cloying for me!
-
Wow, I expected this to be less floral. It was cool and clean in the vial but on me it made me actively cough, made my nose burn, and made my sinuses hurt. It was chemical and floral in a way that I hate. There's an undertone of "york peppermint pattie" that I wish would emerge further and cover up the floral, but my skin seems determined to leave this nauseating. *time passes* Ok, stronger mint, a clean smell over the florals. It sweetens up a lot on me, but becomes very faint. I like this final stage, but not enough to endure the initial shock.

Ok, fig does smell like olde country craft store at Christmas - that same sweet dusky reddish-violet berry. It also reminds me of a lot of "holiday berry" scented candles and it doesn't have too much depth. But it's nice. It's just a pleasant smell. There's something slightly musky behind the berry and it's not overly sweet. I can see using this as a very nice environmental scent, particularly around the holidays. This should somehow get incorporated into a Yule blend On me, no matter how much time passes, it smells the same as it does in the bottle. I kind of want to lick my wrist. It's that "raspberry jam" scent....

When wet there is something incredibly edible about this scent, and very familar. I thought "maybe because I live in New England there is something of the flowers I am used to smelling in here..." except I hate floral perfumes in general and this is more than that. It's like there's a little maple syrup in there. It's as though there is some fig and holly in with the flowers. It smells a bit like a candle shop at Christmas with a lot of wintery scents mixed with the traditional florals. It might be the first floral scent that wasn't rose, jasmine, or violet that I don't hate outright. It's just so... interesting. I normally either love a scent or hate it. I know if I keep this I won't wear it, but I LIKE it. It's almost a floral for the anti-floral people. It smells kinda like a cranberry chutney candle I have

I really should know better. I have not yet been able to stand a perfume that represents air or water in any way. They all smell alike to me- Kingsport is alas, no exception. It doesn't smell like water for me, it smells like the canned "Ocean Breeze" scents that the drugstore sells. Oy. I spent a lot of time by the ocean growing up and when I close my eyes and sniff this lightly I get... chemicals. That's it. Nothing about the subtlety of the ocean and salt and sun, and a storm passing. Ooof, my nose just doesn't like this genre. Sigh. After time passes it smells like cheap men's cologne to me, and starts to cause a headache.
