Inspired by the challenge over in the Book Club section of the forum. The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke 5. Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zeven 6. Tamsin by Peter S. Beagle 7. The Kindly Ones by Jonathan Littell 8. Life Before Man by Margaret Atwood 9. Briar Rose by Jane Yolen 10. Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner 11. A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray 12. The Butterfly Revolution by William Butler 13. Cold Skin by Albert Sanchez Pinol 14. Valentine's Swap Questions ^_^

I'm going to copy the original questions + the ones added later (minus personal information) so it's all in one place. Anything you specifically don’t want (do you not like fur or have too much soap already etc.)? Nope, nothing. Fave colors: Green, orange, red. Fave Scent notes: Amber, spices, vanilla, red musk -- warm and/or spicy stuff, basically. I also like lavender, and am attempting to rediscover a love for rose. Fave flavors: Spice (cinnamon, chili pepper, nutmeg, etc.), vanilla, orange, cherry, lavender, jasmine. Do you prefer “traditional” or anatomical hearts? Anatomical, but I like both. Fave flower: Tiger lily. Favorite candy/chocolate/dessert: Dark chocolate in general...no preference otherwise. Fave Author/Poet: Neil Gaiman, Margaret Atwood, ee cummings What kind of poems do you like? I enjoy all kinds. Sock size: Er, medium? Shirt Size: Medium. Would you like makeup/lip balm/nail polish? Sure! I could especially use some new lip balms/glosses/tints/whatever. Plum, red, pink, brown, mauve...anything but coral/orange and blue, purple, and other such wilder colours. I can also always use more nail polish -- any colour for that. Would you like bath/body stuff? Sure! Would you like hair accesories/clips? Alas, my hair is too short. Would you like candles, incense, or wax tarts? Absolutely -- particularly fond of incense. Would you be offended by things of a risqué/adult nature (nipple pasties, genital shaped soap or chocolate, etc.)? Not at all, rather the opposite. Anything else you want your swapper to know? Not that I can think of at the moment. Wishlist links: Wishlist! Would you prefer a poem or romance novel & what type of romance novel? I like both, and am basically easy to please. If a romance novel, one without too much damsel in distress action is always good. How do you feel about burned mix cds (good time for mood music *giggle*)? Definitely in favor. Do you have metal/ jewelry allergies? Nope. Do you bake/would you be interested in baked goods or related mixes? Yes! I love baking, and I love eating baked goods. Do you like cute stationery, stickers, note cards, stuff like that? Absolutely! Note cards especially. Do you like tea? If so, do you prefer your tea loose or in tea bags? I do, and I don't have a preference between loose leaf and bags. I'd say mint tea is the only thing that doesn't really do it for me. What is your favorite Valentine candy? Don't actually have one. Would you enjoy some loose beads for your own crafts, or any other crafty bits? I paint and sketch, so small bits toward that would be lovely. Most stuff for those two tends to be more pricey, but I have nothing against those super cheap acrylic paints, cheap erasers, whatever. Would you rather get things all together or in a couple of doses? No preference! Kid/Parent/church lady safe or not? Definitely not necessary. Length of necklace, size of bracelet, post or dangle earrings preferred? I don't have a necklace length preference, and don't really wear bracelets (I break them too easily). Dangle earrings are preferred, but I wear both. I prefer post earrings on the small side, because my piercings are rather close together. Stuffed critters or other things of the cuddly variety? Love them! Would you mind receiving an in person delivery from your Cupid? With forewarning that would be awesome, but I don't think anyone lives in my area. For those who don't do jewelry/have a prohibitive amount of metal sensitivities, etc., would you prefer something like a keychain charm or other little ornamental thing? I don't have any sensitivities, but I'd still love anything like that. For you chocolate lovers - do you like yours plain or with nuts? If nuts are good, which kind? I like both! Almonds are my favorite. I do not like peanuts, but otherwise we're good to go. Do you like hot cocoa? Yes! All kinds. (I sometimes feel sorry for my Cupid...I know I'm terribly unhelpful sometimes.) Does anyone have any strong objection to gently used items? Nope, none at all! As long as it's not like, gently used edible panties or something.

    Scent for Halloween?

I was going to wear The Traveller layered with Falling Leaf Moon for Halloween when I was planning on going as Robin Hood, but now I may be dressing up as a doll, so I'm not sure. Maybe Punkie Night, Invasion of the Flesh Eating Reindeer, or Antique Lace. If only I owned Zarita! Tiger Lily on November 1, for my great-grandfather.

    Panther Moon

This and Raven Moon are my favorite Lunacies, and both have the same sort of dark musk on me. Panther Moon, however, is more resiny, and the spice is more homey than fiery. It's a feminine scent, but not floaty or floral -- more seductive, with a comforting undertone. Really beautiful.

    The Illustrated Woman

This is very men's cologne on me -- but since I like that, I don't think it's a bad thing. The pine is very light on me, just present enough to ground an otherwise heady blend. I get mostly resin and tobacco leaves, with the vanilla and honey adding a sweetness, but not really present -- they blend in, rather than being among the notes I can pick out. I really love this one -- it's my go-to blend when I want to feel powerful and forceful.

    Pumpkin V (2009)

So, when I first got this last year it didn't really work on me. But, in honor of the Halloween update, I broke it out this morning, and oh my goodness. It is now warm, pumpkin pie goodness -- with a cup of coffee on the side. Delicious, but not too sweet. Glad I held on to this one!

    The Traveller

Good lord this scent is amazing. I'd been having difficulty in finding my leather scent, and I think this is it. All the other leather scents I've tried have seemed to be either too floral or too something else, but this is the perfect balance between leather and the complimentary notes. The leather note is strong, but is nicely sweetened and warmed by the other notes. It really does smell like the outdoors...I'm even getting whiffs that give the sense of a cool breeze floating by. Definitely a second bottle of this...maybe a third, depending on how my self-control is looking when I order.

    Velvet Dogs Playing Poker

Oh my god I love this scent. I didn't do a bottle sniff test, but on my skin it's all wood and pipe tobacco notes (no coffee, which I consider a good thing). I think this is one I'll be reaching for on a regular basis (but I'll try to ration it to the best of my self-control's ability).

    J-Horror

This is a very fresh and clean scent...I'm getting mostly stargazer lily, eucalyptus, and sandalwood. Not my usual type of scent (I go for warm, spicy things), but it is very nice. Will definitely keep the bottle around, though it won't get as much love as some of my other scents.

    The Lion

Well, my spidey sense must have been tingling when I put this on the list to wear today. It's dreary and raining heavily outside, and the Lion is the perfect cozy scent to cuddle up with while reading a book and listening to the storm. This is very amber and spice. Cinnamon blast at first, but that settles down after a little while. Great throw for me, but not too heavy or strong. A little more sweet than I like most of my scents, but the spices balance it out nicely. Need a bottle, definitely. I'm a sucker for the spicy scents, and this is a nice twist on what I usually wear.

    Cake Smash

Well, thanks to the One BPAL a day for the month thread, I decided to do more than just sniff the bottle of this...and I'm glad I did. This started out very REDVELVETCAKECREAMCHEESEFROSTING! on me, but that stage didn't last long... On drydown, it's not at all the foody scent I was expecting, and not cloyingly sweet (as I also feared). I definitely get incense...like the smell of a room after someone has burned incense, not like sniffing a stick of it. The cake is very lightly mingled in with that, and adds just a touch of sweetness. I am actually a bit sad I never skin tested this before today...it's so lovely, and I'm not allowed to wear it for the rest of the month.

    Scent for Halloween?

I'll probably wear Lambs-Wool for Thanksgiving (mmm, warm spiced apples). Christmas will probably be Flesh Eating Reindeer, unless one of the Yules really stands out to me...but I want to smell like gingerbread for Christmas! Not sure about Christmas Eve or New Years Eve yet.

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

I only do that with bottles that I know I'm not going to sell or swap (and from what I can tell, most people who sell and swap on the forums have the same policy). The ones I'm uncertain about I usually decant out and use from the decants, so if I decide to sell the rest of the bottle it's no big deal.

What do bottles and labels look like?

I really love the new ones, too. Of course, they were the first ones I was exposed to...but nevertheless, I prefer the design and the general feel of the new ones. Especially the font for "hand blended perfume oil." It looks like someone took a quill to parchment, and I just can't resist that.

    Bengal

This smells like a warm, delicious cup of chai latte. Lots of cinnamon, but nicely balanced with honey, ginger, and clove. I am a lover of the spicy scents, so of course I got a bottle of this one.

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

I rub them in, but I'm not exactly as gentle with my oils as a lot of people around here. I put my middle finger over the opening of the bottle, flip over, and rub in wherever I'm applying. I get pretty good staying power with this method, and scents stay pretty true on me. *shrug*

    Lilith vs. the Giant Crab

In the bottle and wet, it smells like pure creamsicle. On drydown, the creamsicle fades and leaves behind a soft, fresh, lovely scent...I can't pick out any notes at this point, but it is fantastic. I was hoping for creamsicle with this scent, but am not disappointed with what it became. Cake Smash and Mlle Lilith are both great, but this is the winner for me of the Beanday scents.

    Falling Leaf Moon

The Lunacies just keep getting better and better for me. This is a beautiful fall scent--warm, dried leaves with something sweet that I can't quite put my finger on...something lingering and soft that balances the scent nicely. I can tell already that this will get a lot of wear this fall.

    Mircalla, Countess Karnstein

Man, this one lived up to the hype. It's like Sunbird and Snake Oil had a beautiful, beautiful love child. It's spicy, but doesn't strike me as foodie--like warm red musk and cloves. Absolutely love this blend, and will have to order another bottle before it goes down.

    Detestable Putrescence

You think it will never happen to you, but then one day... I thought the burned plastic smell was something that happened to other people. It's something you read about on the news, and shake your head, and say, "What a shame," and then forget about and go on with your day. Oh boy was I wrong. This smells like someone melted a plastic jug that happened to contain a cheap vanilla candle. Why, oh why? Oh well...probably better off, it means I'm getting close to enough scents to start swapping away the ones I don't like, rather than leaving them in the back of my box.

    Saturnalia

Pure vetiver on me...and I'm afraid vetiver smells like whiskey in a really bad way to my nose. That's all I could smell in the bottle, and all I can smell on my skin. I'm afraid this is a fail...if only I could get smoky violets! *sigh*

suggestions for a girl's writing class

I agree with everyone on Illyria and Mad Tea Party scents ('Tis the Voice of the Lobster is my favorite from MTP, and strikes me as a young girl type of scent). I'm hesitant to go into the goddesses, because some parents are weird, but Persephone, Thalia, and Utrennyaya are also lovely and light. Prunella is also nice.

    Lambs-Wool

I think this is my favorite of all the Halloweenies. It's all warm, spiced apples on my skin. Definitely getting another bottle (or five) before they go down.

    Perfume to match songs?

I am resurrecting this topic for a bit of a broad request. I'm going to a Decemberists concert next month, and am looking for a scent that sort of embodies the band (more specifically, the Hazards of Love album). Definitely open to suggestions for individual songs, or several songs (or even characters from songs)...whatever you guys have got. I want a scent that fits the show and will remind me of it whenever I wear it. Not going for anything difficult to acquire, so I'd prefer GCs (or, of course, any of the LEs that are currently up).
