This is very much The Girl without the musk. Lovely and ethereal.

Wow, this is like a stronger Midway Res to me. While I love MR, it never lasts on me. At all. But this-- so glad I got a bottle! It smells very similar to me. I will say, at first I get popcorn, then it turns into a salty Midway Resurrected, then the salt disappears altogether & it's just sweetness. I love this! I know what I am wearing tomorrow. If you love Midway or just wish you had had the chance to try it, get ahold of some of this stuff! Sweet, airy, & sugary. Perfect!

Bat! I normally can't do florals, but this is such an airy, beautiful blend. I have gotten so many compliments on it. Peacocks is also lovely.

Similarities Between BPAL Scents - GC and general discussion

Ravenous, maybe? They seemed kind of similar to me, if I remember correctly. -
Wow, I was really not expecting this to work on me, especially considering that about five of the notes are ones I usually try to avoid. However-- this is... it's reminding me of something from my past, & it's going to drive me nuts, because I can't put my finger on it. But already, it's got that nostalgia thing going for it, so I'm a goner. It smells like the sun shining through stained glass to me. This is what I'd imagine that to smell like, especially the greens & whites & blues reflected on the floor or the wall. Or a cold, cold night with those fat cobalt blue Christmas shining on the snow. It smells like... if you were to be so full of happiness that it somehow could lift you off the ground & float you away into the sky... the air around you would smell like Peacocks. I'm absolutely no help whatsoever with notes, and I apologize. I have to hunt down a bottle of this, somehow.

When I first dabbed this on my wrist, I got a sweet vanilla. It is almost a dead-ringer for Sirocco from Cobalt Blends. I nearly ditched it, because although it was okay, I was not in love. Just a bit too sweet for me. It also brought to mind Sticky Pillowcase without all the strawberry pinkness. However, I decided to go ahead & give this scent a full-on fair shot & slathered it on before I went out today. And all day long I kept getting whiffs of the most heavenly vanilla fragrance. At first I was unconvinced that it was Boo, but the scent kept following me around. Oh yeah, this might be the vanilla blend I was looking for. It is a rich vanilla & I agree with whoever said it was toffee-like. It also reminds me of vanilla taffy, & the vanilla syrup you can have put into your Coke. The sweetness really mellowed out after only a little while, and all that is left is absolute heaven! I am in love love love. I'm going to need backups of this one.

Your Best-Bet "Must Try" Enabling Scents
sixthsentinel replied to magpiedee's topic in Recommendations
Morocco Snake Oil Perversion Bordello Antique Lace Tombstone ... just to name a few Oh! I'm going to add Centzon Totochtin to that list, especially if you like foody scents (although I don't consider it foody exactly). -
Oh no. Over-ripe peaches sitting in vomit. No likey. eta: The label is super-cute though!

Hmmm... not sure what to make of this one. The first stage is powder & something resembling... what? I almost think "hairspray," but more appropriately, I think it is reminding me strongly of Yog-Sothoth. Both Psychological Horror & Yog-Sothoth give the impression of an unfathomable void, a vacuum. It is at once amazing to me that this feeling can be realized in a perfume, but disconcerting, not completely pleasant as a fragrance. However, somewhere around an hour later, PH is sweet. Very sweet, with just an edge of powder. It's beautiful! I'm actually thinking I need a bottle right as the boundless emptiness begins creeping back in.... I have to say, I am really impressed by PH as a concept. It perfectly embodies the nice, normal guy you exchange niceties with in the hall, never suspecting that the reason he lingers at his door before you walk away is that he doesn't want you to see the 55-gallon drums that line his living room.

Best BPALs for SUMMER - is it hot, sweltering, sticky outside?
sixthsentinel replied to Donnababe's topic in Recommendations
Coyote! I get so sensitive to scents in the summer, so many of them make me feel sick for some reason, but not Coyote. -
As soon as I opened the bubble mailer containing my decants I was bombarded by this one. Creamy, sugary, sweet. On my skin, the chocolate became evident. It's not long before it morphs on me from cream-filled chocolate into something boozier & very similar to Sugar Cookie 2005 (at least I'm pretty sure it was 2005. Maybe it was 2006 I had ) It's okay, not my fave. Not a big bottle purchase for me.

Whoa, I either didn't know this had marigold in it or I had completely forgotten! Either way, that explains why I kept thinking 'marigold' while wearing it. I wasn't completely sold on it at first, but throughout the day I kept getting whiffs of it & oh it was delightful! It's like being surrounded by a golden aura & being able to smell it. Puts me in the mind of Kubla Khan and Morocco. Still, it's different enough that I feel justified in keeping the bottle. Lovely!

Right on the skin I am getting the Irish coffee that some of the other reviewers have mentioned. It's alright, but I'm not in love. Irish coffee has always smelled just a little musty to me, just a wee bit. Ten or fifteen minutes in, whoa!marshmallow I can maybe smell the white chocolate or coconut in the background; I can't quite tell. If it's there, it's blending in quite nicely with the marshmallow. I have smelled a lot of e-tailer marshmallow products, and they are often more miss than hit for me. They are usually too sweet, fake smelling, plastic-y, or just nothing like marshmallow at all, but this-- I must have a bottle! I don't tend to wear foody scents much these days, but it will be a nice scent for just chillin' around the house all comfy cozy in pjs curled up with a good book on rainy days. Total comfort scent. WIN!!!

Eos, maybe? The Rising Sun. She is Ostara, Easter, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of fertility and the dawn. She is a protector and friend to all children. Her scent is that of softly glowing skin, jasmine, buttercup and honeysuckle. It's quite pretty. Although I wouldn't say it dominated the blend, it was still very prominent, if I am remembering correctly. Anathema might be another one. I seem to remember a lot of honeysuckle in that one. A scent as heavy as thunder from the Vatican, with notes that inspire every sin and excess. Black opium, with vetivert and honeysuckle.

Whoa! This reminds me of Tombstone. Like, a lot. Wet, I thought it was going to be a no-go because it was super sweet. Within a few minutes, though, it began to kind of remind me of BPAL Egg Nog, except with a fizzy edge, like someone had poured some soda in there or something. But as it dried down, it continued to mellow out & turned into a vanilla-drenched Tombstone on my skin, a bit less rugged than the real thing. Hm. I never would have figured. I am loving this hardcore.

Snake Oil Help! Layering it, Snake Pit scents, blends with Snake Oil

Honestly, I was kind of thinking this too, but I was kind of hesitant to make the comparison in case it was just my weird nose -
Snake Oil Help! Layering it, Snake Pit scents, blends with Snake Oil
sixthsentinel replied to spaceprostitute's topic in Recommendations
I have tried Boomslang, Temple Viper, Western Diamondback, Death Adder & Australian Copperhead. Boomslang was pretty yummy, of course. To me it was quite close to Snake Oil but with a chocolate note that mellowed out as it dried down. Western Diamondback I don't remember that much about except for red sandalwood, which is pretty much a disaster on me & this was no exception, as that note overpowered everything else. Temple Viper & Australian Copperhead weren't all that much Snake Oil to my nose (although Temple Viper is something lovely in its own right). Death Adder, however, is (to my nose & on my skin) Snake Oil, only more dangerous, and dead sexy. -
Wow.... Initially the opium smoke (at least I think that's what's doing it) is giving me a strong blast of hairspray. Underneath, something sweet is struggling to make its way beyond the Aquanet force field. I'm thinking "ew, no, now I have to live with it 'til it wears off" when I begin getting whiffs of the most wonderfully sweet & creamy fragrance. Yet sniffing the skin directly leaves me thinking, "surely not...?" In the space of 15-20 minutes perhaps, the Aquanet is as gone as the '80s & I'm falling hard for Kubla Khan. It is now all golden light & sweetness & cream, reminding me strongly of the part of Fairy Market that is not flowers. By now, I'm sure I am a goner & going to have to order a bottle. However, in about another hour, the sweetness is beginning to wear on me. It's cloying--no, that's not fair. The scent isn't getting any stronger, it's not amping, it's not cloying... my olfactory glands are simply being worn down by KK, it seems. Suddenly I am recalling scenes from Splendor in the Grass, most notably the one where Natalie is shamelessly throwing herself all over Warren Beatty in the car, insisting that she's not a nice girl... uh, at least I think that's how it went. Anyway, I now feel like Bud, wanting little more than to escape the clingy Kubla Khan, who refuses to be ignored. So... it turns out, all those reviewers of Fairy Market who said the sweetness under the flowers may have been overwhelming had it not been for the floral element... well, they were right. Because to my nose, KK is pretty much just that sweetness, almost the same exactly. I remember wishing I could have that minus the flowers & thinking everyone else must be crazy, but it turns out they just know their stuff way better than I do, because that is indeed way too much sweet for the sweet. All that's left to do now is stand in my front yard proclaiming my profound disappointment by striking my best William Shatner stance & shouting "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN!" 'til the neighbors call the popo.

I'm not sure what the Tombstone-tally is up to, but I'll 3rd, 4th, 5th, whatever that one. I've been dying to smell this on a man, but mine won't hold still long enough to let me deposit so much as a drop on him. Silly boy, why waste my bpal on him anyway

I think I am getting mostly the white chocolate, peach, clove & honey. At first I wasn't so sure about it, but it is really growing on me. It smells a lot like a Toblerone to me & now I craving one like mad! It also kind of reminds me of March Hare, just a little... like I can kind of smell it in there, maybe... either way, I think I'm going to have to hang on to this one for a bit.

When I first tried this I was undecided. At first I got a gloriously sweet, almost sparkling golden scent over florals that strongly remind me of Beatrice. As it wore on, the two would continuously alternate; sweet incense, florals, then back again. I tried it again, hoping the sweetness would tame the florals, & I think maybe it has? I dunno, I will have to wait a couple of weeks to be sure, then I will edit if there is any change. I am really, really loving the part of Fairy Market that isn't floral. It's gorgeous. ETA Yup, it's grown on me. I still get the florals, but just a tad--they seem to have struck a truce with the sweetness, because now the flowers/effervescent sweetness intermingle harmoniously on my skin the whole time rather than the tug of war I was getting the first time I tried it. The flowers anchor the sweetness, if that makes any sense. I am definitely keeping my bottle; I can see myself reaching for this one regularly.

Reminds me a bit of Schwarzer Mond, but more--threatening? Instead of the 'almost sparkling' note that I get from Schwarzer Mond (is that the amber? It somehow kind of reminds me of rootbeer), this has a hardness to it. This scent is no-nonsense & unbending, but there seems to be a warmth underneath, and a tad of sweetness that has me hooked. I imagine this is what Dr. Cox from Scrubs would smell like. So glad I ordered another bottle last night.

Hmmm... Don't know quite what to make of this just yet. I like it, but it seems like it could be cloying after a while. I smell the sweet, warm milk from the previous Milk Moon, but now the white grape lays atop it, super-sweet & almost effervescent. I don't know that I can pick out the fig, date, & pomegranate--perhaps the honey is morphing them, lending to the super-sweetness that I've been attributing solely to the grapes. Long story short, to me this is old milk moon sweetened waaaay the heck up.

Monster Bait: Ventriloquist Dummy
sixthsentinel replied to requieminblack's topic in Limited Editions
I really didn't expect to like this much, but surprise, surprise! Mostly I get the woodiness, but this is no mere twigs-n-branches--no, this is the smooth, polished wood of a dummy who has been pain-stakingly well-cared for, even loved. Spiced wood, reminding me of Mum Moon a bit, though they really aren't all that much alike. The other notes are just there. It's like the ventriloquist had an apricot tart sitting on the kitchen counter that he was looking forward to having for breakfast, but the next morning all he found was the dirty tart dish & the dummy sitting in the corner with just a smudge of gooey goodness at the corner of his wide, silent mouth. I really, really like this, and I am so glad I picked up a bottle despit having serious doubts.
