Interests
Harry Potter, Star Wars [and reading fanfic in both fandoms]. I like fantasy in general and will usually gravitate towards that section in any bookstore. I'm trying to get back into music by learning two new instruments - guitar and piano. I've been playing with digital photography of late, having just picked up a new camera that I've been drooling over for the better part of two years. I also like to golf, but my enthusiasm outstrips my ability! BPAL is a new interest for me; I've never been into perfumes but the idea of trying different oils and finding scents that work for me [as opposed to just buying commercial blends] is pretty cool.

Favorite Scents
My current favourites: Shub-Niggurath, Kingsport, Bengal, Gingerbread Poppet. I like: warm, spicy blends; salty, maritime scents; green, herb-y scents. Florals don't work on me, Seraphim being a case in point.

I bought this scent as a birthday present for my husband, who is a complete freak about chocolate. I don't want to sabotage his diet so I thought this would be the perfect way for him to enjoy something he loves without the guilt. As soon as it arrived I checked Gelt out to see how it lived up to the description. Wow! I love that it is so chocolatey - I can actually get a taste of chocolate just from a quick pass of the bottle. It's intense, but in a good way. I don't know that he'll ever wear the scent, I think he'll be satisfied just keeping it in the office and taking a whiff when he needs it.

First sniff: A pleasant floral, light and very springlike. Wet: Purple! I don't get the jasmine that others have sensed, but the lilac/lavender is coming through very strongly for me. Drydown: Yeesh! Why does my skin amp up florals like this?? It's pretty in the imp, but my body chemistry warps it into something very strong and very artificial within minutes. I smell like those nastly little mesh bags of potpourri my great aunt always kept in her linen closet.

There's something in the BB's cologne that makes him like it in particular, but I just don't have the experience to identify the other notes. We may just have to do the trial and error thing - I'll enable him yet.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to order both imps and let him pick which one he likes best. And if he doesn't like the Baron Samedi I may well like it - mmm, almonds!

I have a friend who likes BB's Bay Rum Cologne and would like to try a BPAL equivalent. Any suggestions of catalogue scents that are pretty close? Thanks!

I'm a sucker for foodie scents and this one is no exception. It's nice in the bottle, but when I wear it I too get the smoky note. For me that's a plus because it smells *exactly* like the gingerbread my grandmother made in the old oven on cold winter mornings when I was a kid. Beth, since you've clearly found my grandmother's long-lost gingerbread recipe, can you send me a copy? Please? The other thing I really like about it is that different notes come out randomly after it dries. One minute the cinnamon is at the front, the next the ginger, then the molasses... It keeps it really interesting.

Ahh... what I was hoping Numb would do for me. In the bottle and wet the first thing that hits me is spearmint - not that nasty artificial smell you get from gum but the light pure scent that always made me sneak a leaf when the kitchen was using it for garnish. I also get that hint of evergreen underneath as well, and it gets stronger as it dries down. A keeper - I'm going to make sure I still have some of this for really hot days next summer!

I was so taken with Shub-Niggurath that I set Kingsport aside when my order came in at the beginning of last week. In the bottle I couldn't place the scent - it was potent but I couldn't put a name to it, and I couldn't pick out individual notes as I'm still new to this. Now that I've read the reviews I have to agree with the person that said Kingsport in the bottle smells like 7-Up. It was strong when I first applied it, perhaps a bit masculine. It reminds me of a men's cologne but I can't remember which one. However, it quickly faded to something subtler and less overtly masculine. As it dried down the saltiness came through - I could taste the salt at the back of my throat as I took a whiff. Very nice and cool with a bit of a tang. The citrus undertone that made me think 7-Up is still present but only just barely. My final impression - clean, crisp linen dried in a summer breeze. Hokey, I suppose, but that's the best way I can sum the scent up. I'm glad I found this now so I can wear it for the rest of the summer.

Unfortunately, Seraphim is a scent that just doesn't like me. In the bottle it was fine - I got the cool white floral impression that others have mentioned. Quite pretty, actually. And then I spilled a very little bit on my fingers and dabbed it on my wrist so as not to waste it. First Reaction: OY!! FLOWERS!!! How it smells when it hits my skin bears no relation to what it smells like in the bottle. Almost overwhelmingly intense, like funeral floral arrangements on a really hot day. As it dried it became more cloying. It brought back intense memories of my grandmother's perfume, which would take over the entire house when it was applied. When it fully dried it smelled like those tiny little soaps my other grandmother put out for company. I couldn't bear to wear it any longer and had to scrub it off. From my first whiff in the bottle I can see why others have liked it so much, and I want to like Seraphim too, I really do... but I now have a new page in my BPAL spreadsheet of oils that don't work with my body chemistry. Seraphim gets top billing on that page, highlighted in pink for 'Never Again'. I'm going to have to be very careful with floral notes until I figure out what exactly reacted so badly with me.
