    Yankee Candle to BPAL

It's been a long time since I smelled Midsummer's Night, but you might try Galvanic Goggles or Robotic Scarab from the Steamworks collection. They both seem very similar to MN.

    Medicine, medicinal notes

Madrid is discontinued and might be a little hard to find, but I think it smells like cough syrup. Wearable cough syrup, though. Red Queen also has a boozy kind-of cherry vibe, as does Phantom Calliope from the CD. And I think Ochosi smells a bit like calamine lotion, which my mom used to put on poison ivy rash and mosquito bites when I was a kid.

    Whip

Rose and leather are two notes that amp on me and eat up everything else, so I was interested to see what this blend would do. This is a strong, sweet rose and an old, soft leather, and they balance each other very well. This set off a friend's allergies; it is a very strong blend but I like it quite a lot.

    Cockaigne

This imp is over a year old. I get oatmeal cookie from this too!! With brown sugar and nutmeg and warm milk. Very similar to Haunt Shapeshifter. I was hoping for more of the wine note, but it's not coming out. This one lasts forever.

    Urd

This is so light that I can barely smell it it. Even slathering it on, I just get a faint whiff of fruit and patch. I like this one, but I wish it were a bit stronger.

    Eau de Ghoul

This is a really strong, spicy dirt scent with a pleasant bit of bitterness. perhaps that is the blood. The leather is very subtle and doesn't overwhelm everything. If you're a fan of spiced scents, as I am, don't be afraid to try this one.

    Queen of Sheba

The almond in this one is so strong that it takes over everything else. In the bottle it smells like fresh almonds and after it's been on my skin awhile it becomes a nuttier, toasted almond. This is not an almond extract/cherry sort of smell, but the real nuts. Great if you like it; I don't.

    Masquerade

This imp is quite old, at least a year or more. I like most of the notes in this one, and I was hoping that they would dominate the orange blossom, which usually does not like me. But this one is all orange blossom on me, and a bit of what smells like amber or red musk. Maybe its the aged patchouli. Anyway, do not want!

    Hymn to Proserpine

Amber usually turns bitter and powdery on me, but this goes oddly sour. There's pomegranate and currant in this, as well, I think. I like both of them, but the amber is still too much. To the swaps.

    Devil's Claw

Ack! Smoky vetiver, maybe a bit of cedar. This reminds me of Djinn a bit. Not wearable on me. Off to the swaps!

    The Hesperides

Mmm. Sweet green apple and sweet wood and sweet leaves. There's a bit of an aquatic note as well. This doesn't quite feel candy-like to me, but it's very close. Unfortunately, it doesn't last long on my skin.

    Poisoned Apple

This is a sweet green apple with something bitter and sharp inside. It fades fairly quickly on my skin.

    Regan

Honeyed cream and skin musk with a hint of vanilla. There's a light green floral lurking in the background somewhere that keeps it from being too cloying. This is what I expected SO to smell like.

    Agrat-Bat-Mahlaht

Mmm. Creamy honey and skin musk. An LE version on Sed Non Satiata, or Bengal without the spice.
  15. hmelt004

    Sed Non Satiata

Most of what I get is the body musk and honey. This is sweet and sexy and amazing. The patchouli adds a bit of a "dirty" feel, which only makes me like it more.re. The other notes listed don't work well on me usually, especially tuberose and myrrh, but I don't get them from this.

    Saint-Germain

A perfect carnation and lavender blend, with the mosses in the background giving it depth and staying power. Amber is usually death to me, but this amber behaves. This could work on a guy, but I'm keeping it myself for when I need to feel particularly sophisticated.

    Envy

A herbal green scent, a bit astringent and a bit sweet. The lavender is dry and the mint is fresh and I wish I could smell more of the lime. Not sure what herbs are here. Maybe a bit of tarragon? It's a bit grassy. I like it, but I'll wear it to bed, not in public.

    Xiuhtecuhtli

I love very few florals, but this one really works on me. I was going to buy a bottle before I realized that I owed about six imps. It is complex and sweet and tropical and green and very, very difficult to pin down. I will try. I want more converts to this most unpronounceable of florals. Copal is a resin, orange is a fruit, and incense is, well, incense. So this is not JUST a floral. The plumeria stands out but is pretty balanced by the orange and all the rest of the stuff sort of sings back up. It is love.

    Mary Read

I'm on a quest to try all the pirate scents, and I love the story of Mary Read, so I was excited to try this one. It's very like Port Royal/Jolly Roger/Calico Jack, and one of the Lovecraft ones I can't remember the name for. I love the lab's salt note, and there's a lot of briny salty musk in this. The leather doesn't amp on my skin like it usually does. I really like Mary, but I already have a bottle of Port Royal and I think that's a bit more wearable.

    The Jersey Devil

I always buy green scents because I like the idea of them, but they rarely work on me. This one, however, is a keeper, and I am considering getting a bottle. It starts out all pine pitch, very astringent and slightly worrying, but then it gets a bit sweeter and more mellow. The cedar makes it deep and rich but doesn't take over. A true and very wearable green scent.

    Bengal

Wonderful warm dry spice with honey and cream. This seems like a gentler GC version of Enraged Groundhog Musk to me. As it dries the spices get stronger. I would wear this all the time, but I know this would definitely suit some people at Christmas.

    Kitsune-Tsuki

Bought this for the name, and because I like most of the notes. I was a little worried about the jasmine, but it behaves here. This is a sweet fruity floral like Tamora. I really like the plum and white musk together, with the flowers providing back up. Mmm. A keeper.

    Magdalene

I got this mostly for the name. I like orchid scents, dislike most rose one, and am not really sure what labdanum smells like. Wikipedia says that it's rockrose resin and smells like ambergris. I like ambergris. Magdalene is a fizzy bubbly sort of floral, much more complex than I remembered it being the first time I tested it. Rose doesn't gobble up everything else. This was in the "meh" imp pile, but now I'm going to give it another shot.

    Kyoto

Sweet and candy-like! I only get cherry syrup and anise from this, no sandalwood. It has kind of a ozone vibe to it as well that makes my nose tingle a bit. It was in the "meh" imp pile, but now I'm not sure about it. I'll give it another wear.

    Drink Me

It's hard for me to pick a favorite Mad Tea Party scent, but this one is definitely at the top of the list. One of the first BPALs I tried, this one still reminds me of really high quality cinnamon powdered sugar doughnut with toasted hazelnuts. It's warm and sweet and buttery and one of the few foody scents that I can wear.
