Oils to relax, calm, soothe, restore your sanity...

Mine is Velvet. Somehow it just seems like everything is going to be alllll right when I smell it.

    Dragon's Tears

I got this as a freebie with an order. The only other Dragon's Blood I've smelled is Dragon's Bone, so I'm not sure exactly what it smells like, but I like Dragon's Bone and I like this one. It's almost a second skin scent on me, and I find it very sensual. A tiny bit goes a long way. When I breathe it very deeply, I get an image of stephanotis, or maybe jasmine, gardenia or magnolia, what they smell like when you put your nose right in them - on salt air. I can see this as being extremely tantalizing, worn in very minute amounts. I can't stop nuzzling my wrists. I would put this on my collarbones and hope a guy had the same reaction. It's lickable.

    Dragon's Bone

I love woody perfumes but have a hard time wearing many of them because many have a lot of cedar and I don't do well with cedar. And I really don't care for violet. And orris (iris) is ... sometimes kind of sharp smelling on me. This one is a true beauty and I can wear it - I like all of the notes in this context. The Dark Mother has an excellent nose - her review sums the notes up to perfection, as I smell them, too, although I don't have any scent associations to bones, personally. But it smells as she described. And I get the "ooo" as well. This has a high swoon factor. Edited to add that on me, at least, less than one drop is plenty enough.

    Mata Hari

I ordered this one just on the strength of my love for the notes, so, unsniffed. Got my order today and put it on and thought "Blech! Oh, noooo, don't tell me I'm not going to like this one!" But never fear, my pretties. This one does for coffee what Velvet does for chocolate, and for me, that's a good thing. Rich, deep, thick, sensual, haunting, and not for the faint of heart is how it smells on me. No regrets.

Where is my order? What is Click N Ship? How long does this take?

I'm waiting for my 8/16 order and put in an email to Nella yesterday (to the proper email address, even). Haven't heard yet.

    Intrigue

A sultry, exotic scent that inspires devious plotting and clandestine affairs. It is a scent painted in artifice, veiled in deceit, and slithering with whispered secrets. Black palm, with cocoa, fig and shadowy wooded notes. Oooo! This one's fun! Exhiliarating! I don't sniff BPAL out of the bottle, I just put it on and see what happens. My first reaction was startled confusion. Pencils! Not shavings, but the smell of a big package of fresh pencils. Then, something sweet -- Figs! Fig jam. It's rick and thick and toothsome - you want to bite it. Someone whispered "Raspberry...." over it and then moved away. I've never smelled anything like this before. I love the depth of it. I love it in the way that I love Velvet - I think I may layer it with Velvet. For some reason, I find this one very sexy, and the play of scents in it makes me grin. It's creative; it's got ideas, this one. A great fall/winter scent. This would make a great body lotion.

    Nocturne

The reviews above sum this scent up perfectly. Unfortunately, I don't like the smell of violets. But if you do, this, I believe, is the quintessence of violet scents, a very dark lavender/blue.

    Magdalene

Another "perfection in a bottle" experience. My first thought at smelling the topnote was not "sharp," but "clean." Rosey, but not too. Also reminded me of Psyche. I get a visualization of a shape like a violin scroll when I inhale it deeply. http://www.vanzandtviolins.com/vn81scroll.htm Fiddlehead fern is what came to mind. The has an elegant base, then it curves wide in the middle, and sings and flourishes at the top notes. Structurally beautiful; emotionally at once comforting and uplifting. Very feminine but not girly. Definite 10ml bottle purchase. And I want it in soap and in a dream pillow.

    Moon Rose

Powefully benevolent, exquisite, ethereal, to die for.

Best BPAL for bath or body oils?

I just use my regular vanilla bath bubbles (cheap kind) and throw in an imp. I used Black Phoenix for this once and it was heavenly - even the heavier scents work well like this.
  11. I've had compliments on Psyche and O.

    Black Widow

This one is ALIVE. She wants out of the bottle right NOW. And once she's got hold of you, she won't let go. Just a drop on my wrists was too strong for me, so after about an hour, I washed her off with pump soap applied straight to my wrists and rubbed in well, then water applied, latered, rinsed ... she laughed in my face ... a couple hours later, I took a shower ... and put on another perfume ... and it's almost 4 a.m., and still, all I smell is Black Widow. And my wrists are itching and burning. But oh, she's sooo narcotic. I'll try her again, diluted. At this strength, the imp I was given could last a very long time.

Love a Victoria's Secret fragrance? Looking for a BPAL cousin to it?

I'd say Spellbound would be a strong contender.
  14. Andrabell, I don't remember ever seeing anything about the oregano stuff. Thanks for that info! I will try it and will definitely pass that along to my mother.

    Decanted...tarted up...

Oh, good. I thought people were putting stuff in the oils! Lemme see here, I think I'm gonna tart up this Snake Oil with some W-D 40 and a spritz of Lemon Pledge ... I've been wondering how you would know what had been added to tart them up. Mystery solved, thanks.
  16. I second Mandarin's recommendation re cramps -- I think regular sex is essential to your health and well-being in general. If no partner available, at least make sure to treat yourself right. Orgasms relieve low back pain for me, too. Mandarin, what do you do with essence of peppermint?
  17. Sudafed for sinus pain - if one doesn't work, take two. Do a little acupressure on your your sinus points with Vicks, if you can stand it that near your eyes. Muscle aches - Tiger Balm. It stinks but nothing else kills muscle pain like it does. Foot massage is the only thing I know for sore feet - Body Shop Peppermint Foot Lotion is nice. They make foot soak machines that have bubbles and stuff. I've never used one but they look like they would feel good (jacuzzi for your feet). Calcium for menstrual cramps. Pop calcium every fifteen minutes until they stop, should be wiithin an hour. Oil of evening primrose is good for some other menstrual symptoms. Take a good multilvitamin every day and try to get enough sleep. (Do I take my own advice? No, I mostly do not. ... )

    Queen of Sheba

I get very strong saffron at first, almost unbearable, and if I didn't know better, I'd have washed it off right then. Fortunately, I waited 10 minutes. Saffron had to have her say, but once she did, she was happy to fall back and play with the other girls. This becomes a melange of sweetness and spice. It inhabits the nose and mouth, making you want to both smell and taste it simultaneously. This reminds me more of Scherezade than Dana O'Shee, and it's the perfect inbetween of the two. I can't stop sniffing my arm. And this one is the first that I've loved on me AND wanted as a room scent (which I have not tried yet, but I feel sure it will be glorious). Edited - 7 months later - this one ages really nicely in the bottle. If you have an imp and are not sure about it and not in a rush, set it aside and revisit after it's had time to mellow.

    Donna Karan and DKNY scents

High Tech Radiance! How are you, darlin'? Nice to see you here. Notes include Saffron, Masala Spices, Clove, Nutmeg, Pimento Berries, White Pepper CO2 Extract, Mediterranean Broom Flower, Patchouli Singapour, Crimson Red Marechal Rose, Ethiopian Guggal Incense, Wengue Wood, Bois de Miel. Exotic. Sensual. Luxurious. Those are Black Cashmere's notes, gang. So .... what on BPAL is woody/spicy/incensey, tiny bit of rose ... HA What isn't?!? You'll go nuts here ... I can't wear Black Cashmere, have trouble with that much incense/wood. But now that I've posted the notes, maybe someone else will have a recommendation.

    Oneiroi

Beautiful, soft and rich ... I've only worn it once so far, and that was just before I went to sleep. If I'd read these reviews before, I'd forgotten about them - I just like to put things on before I go to bed and see what they smell like when I wake up in the morning. There's a guy I've known for four years who pops up every once in awhile, and I'm always happy to see him - and I often dream about him just before he gets in touch - but never this vividly. I dreamed that I was asleep, and in my dream, I woke up, and raised my head, and he was lying in a bed across the room from me on his side, staring straight into my eyes. So when I looked up, I was looking straight into his eyes. It felt so incredibly real that THAT actually did wake me up. It felt like I actually met him in the astral. He called me the next day. Oneiroi, besides being lovely to wear, seems to build a stronger bridge to dreamland, somehow.
  22. Dana O'Shee, Vice, and Bliss - the latter two being sweet/chocolatey

Chocolate and Cocoa, in every combination possible

Hmmm! I've got Seraglio on ... I think I'll try some Bliss with it and see if Honey Chocolate Orange Rose smells good. Your combination sounds scrumptious.

Where is my order? What is Click N Ship? How long does this take?

http://www.artcharts.com/calendar/planets.html Saturn in Cancer definitely - look at us all defending our tribe/family, and maybe it's not too far a stretch to see a metaphor in you, Beth, as mommy, and the precious as your milk, so some of your babies are crying for their milk (Where's my oil?) ... Maybe we're feeling the effect more because now the Sun is in Cancer, and Pallas Athene is in Cancer (artcharts says about Pallas Atehene in Cancer: You are a warrior for home, hearth, and country. Domestic security issues can demand your attention as you step up your involvement in home-based relationships, projects, and events. Emotional support is where the home is.) I was just looking for articles ... thought these were interesting ... http://www.spiritualminds.com/articles.asp?articleid=1454 http://www.ncrising.com/saturn_ceres2003.html Also this about a Yod to Cancer that will be exact in a couple of days (7th paragraph maybe pertains): http://www.acumind.com/News/SaturnYod.html *Edited to add articles
