  1. "So what is this place?" asked Shadow, as they walked through the parking lot toward a low, unimpressive wooden building.

"This is a roadside attraction," said Wednesday. "One of the finest. Which means it is a place of power."

    "Come again?"

"It's perfectly simple," said Wednesday. "In other countries, over the years, people recognized the places of power. Sometimes it would be a natural formation, sometimes it would just be a place that was, somehow, special. They knew that something important was happening there, that there was some focusing point, some channel, some window to the Immanent. And so they would build temples or cathedrals, or erect stone circles, or . . . well, you get the idea."

"There are churches all across the States, though," said Shadow.

"In every town. Sometimes on every block. And about as significant, in this context, as dentists' offices. No, in the USA, people still get the call, or some of them, and they feel themselves being called to from the transcendent void, and they respond to it by building a model out of beer bottles of somewhere they've never visited, or by erecting a gigantic bat house in some part of the country that bats have traditionally declined to visit. Roadside attractions: people feel themselves being pulled to places where, in other parts of the world, they would recognize that part of themselves that is truly transcendent, and buy a hot dog and walk around, feeling satisfied on a level they cannot truly describe, and profoundly dissatisfied on a level beneath that."

Plaster, paint, glass, and plastic surrounding a thrumming core of sacred frankincense.

Plaster-note like from Clive Barker's the Day Burned White, which if anyone reads my reviews creeped me out. Which already has that going for it. Plaster, plastic and a touch of frankincense. This smells haunted, otherwordly but it's a warmer plaster scent than the Day Burned White. The creep factor, while there, isn't nearly as high. Medium throw and wear length.

  2. Amber, moss, wildflowers, honey, and a melange of other scents like myrrh, cinnamon, ozone, rose. Gender neutral to masculine on me. Super complex and a morpher. I actually am really digging this one as well. Good throw and wear length.

  3. [No description provided.]

This one is scented like the Tarot: Death scent. I got some dirt, vetiver, something that almost smelled like black leather, and it dried down to a soft black leather, vetiver, and evergreen/pine note. I actually enjoyed it more as a hair gloss than I did as a perfume.

  4. LOADS of clean soap (it smells like Dial to me) and a hint of patchouli. Take patchouli, throw it in a container of Dial soap, and that's what you get. Great throw and wear length.

  5. Green aldehyde. This smells cold, artificial, green and like moss/seaweed. It's like a hyper-real and yet not real at all seaweed. Seaweed as an idea rendered into a virtual matrix. There's a touch of lime, that burst on wet. And then you just get this pulsating green. Frankly, one of the strangest BPALs I've tried. And I've tried alot. Great throw and wear length.

Not for the faint of heart.

  6. The drunk in the graveyard raised his bottle to his lips. One of the gravestones flipped over, revealing a grasping corpse; a headstone turned around, flowers replaced by a grinning skull. A wraith appeared on the right of the church, while on the left of the church something with a half-glimpsed, pointed, unsettlingly birdlike face, a pale, Boschian nightmare, glided smoothly from a headstone into the shadows and was gone. Then the church door opened, a priest came out, and the ghosts, haunts, and corpses vanished, and only the priest and the drunk were left alone in the graveyard. The priest looked down at the drunk disdainfully, and backed through the open door, which closed behind him, leaving the drunk on his own.

The clockwork story was deeply unsettling. Much more unsettling, thought Shadow, than clockwork has any right to be.

“You know why I show that to you?” asked Czernobog.

    “No.”

“That is the world as it is. That is the real world. It is there, in that box.”

Red currant and labdanum with opoponax, vetiver, grave moss, white sandalwood, and khus.

Red currant, grave moss, sandalwood and a touch of khus. This smells tart, mossy, and with enough other elements to make it swirl. There is something that codes as mint/mist to my nose as well. So misty red currants, moss and sandalwood. Atmospheric, moody, but a touch of the beyond. Gender neutral. Good throw and wear length.

  7. Oak, pine, elm, ash and deep earth. Definitely mud and sol, was well as a touch of vetiver. This smells like you've been outside in the forest, digging around tree roots. Deeply, powerful, earthy. Woodsier than say, Graveyard Dirt, but its more like FOREST dirt. Good throw and wear length.

  8. Smooth myrrh and cigarillo tobacco. Slightly golden around the edges, but its almost like you ripped off the golden foil that circles those cigarillos. In general, a smooth sweet tobacco. Gender neutral toward manly. Definitely sexy.

  9. Ivy, poppy - mossy greens that then become sandalwood and patchouli based. It's a green/watery blend at the beginning that then starts showing off its earthy roots/energy. I'd give this to a sandalwood/patchouli lover that really wants a "green leafy scent". It's very apropos to what I consider Capricornian energy. Medium throw and wear length.

  10. Red musk, jasmine and a touch of sandalwood. Zorya V smells like an older kickass grandmother. You know, who used to be a sharp shooter for Mossad, and probably can still kill you with her right hook if she didn't have trouble making a fist on rainy days because her arthritis is acting up. Give her an hour or two of yoga, and she can probably crush you like a bug though.

It smells strong, female, and older. She knows what she knows, and she knows enough that she isn't to be fucked with. Great throw and wear length.

  11. I smell cinnamon, dragon's blood, and myrrh. Actually, the combination sort of smells like bloody incense. I sprayed the bathroom with it, and it smells sort of ominous and creepy. You know the shower scene in Psycho? This is what that bathroom smells like AFTER the fact. Like someone tried to cover up the crime, but it still.... lingers...

  12. Ash, oak, dragon's blood, incense, and smoke. This one smells kinda bloody, very incensey, woodsy and slightly smoky. Again, this one is such an atmospheric blend. It smells primeval, like hunting or fighting with your hands. It's masculine, bloody, and powerful. Good throw and wear length.

  13. Oak, mead, fennel, and a touch of musk and black feathers. This one is a heavy masculine honey blend on me. Both the oak and fennel cut through the sweetness of the honey, and I end up with a musky undertone and hints of opoponax that add interesting layers to the honey blend.

This smells like a Viking. He likes to drink mead, swing his axe and isn't afraid of sweat. Primordial masculine Scandinavian. Good throw and wear length.

  14. I think the prototype that is floating about is actually Sturgeon Moon 2008, prototype 5.

At least, that's what it says on the label. I have rarely seen this out and about. It's a deep, aquatic. Very gender neutral, with tons of fresh greenery. There's a whiff of vanilla, which warms it up a bit. Yes, absolutely lovely. Cool and watery, and what I had hoped the GC Prague would be.

  15. Sunny, milky dandelions, with a hint of juniper, asphalt, and white musk. If you've been coveting a dandelion scent, try this one. It's green, summery, hot but there's enough of the other ingredients to make it more than just straight up green dandelions. These are tough, urban dandelions. Low throw, low wear length.
