    Voodoo Queen

Hmmm. I see the comparisons to Gypsy Queen. I don't get rose from this scent. I get a *very* strong black tea note from it though, it's kinda smoky, and incensey. After about an hour, I get tea, spices and maybe a whiff of something floral. This is dark, sexy, feminine. I very much prefer Voodoo Queen, and might even consider wearing it on a semi-regular basis because the intersection of spicy tea is *very* nice and welcome. Except, this being the uber-rarity that it is, I'm torn on whether to try for more or just leave it be. ETA: Now that I have more and have used more than just a imp cap swab at a time - I definitely get a strong smoky, almost tobacco, overlay on wet. That fades into the background with the musk/incense/spice intersection on the drydown. I think there might be vanilla and champaca in there... The love I have for this blend surprises me since, I'm not one for resin/spicy/musky blends at all. But this is my "I feel sexy" blend. Love it to pieces.

    Black Orchid

I went and played in jewelbug's box of schtuff, and tried this puppy on. I have to say that the orchid is positively peppery on me. It's dark and dirty, and for the first hour or so, it was very peppery on me. Now it's dirt and orchids. Unless this goes through a severe reformulation, this is not for me. *sigh of relief*

What do bottles and labels look like?

It's probably from the *first* release of Satyr. Before the amber bottles, they were cobalt blue. And before then I know they used squat little bottles. That may be one of them. Another give away is the tied on label. Imps used to come that way before they got their sticker labels. If I were you, I'd guard that puppy with your life! Because if what I said above is true (anyone, please confirm), you've got something that's very old and not seen around too often. Thanks for the pic! ETA: As people that are older than me have a tested, you DO have an old bottle. Huzzah! And it's so cute! Love it!

The Arrival at the Sabbath and Homage to the Devil

Oh, the caramel and black patchouli do bad bad things on a bed of vanilla. This is foody, caramel and patchouli on me. It drowns out all the other components, although I have a slight floral overtone to this. You like patchouli? You like vanilla? You like caramel? You want to see an extreme mash up? This is it.

    Banded Sea Snake (2006)

At the beginning, this was very green and oakmossy. I didn't like it. Now that its been about an hour, the vanilla in the Snake Oil is more prominant, and it's a very green mossy vanilla scent. Not my cup of tea, but the drydown after the hour is very very pretty.

    Horn of Amalthea

Ah, I can see this being a *highly* coveted item. So in the imp, this is creamy fig. On my skin, it's a juicy fig with cream and hints of florals. As it dries, the pear comes out more, and the fig and pear have crazy sexy love. I get just a very, tiny, slight, hint of citrusy - which could be either the quince, bergamot or anything. I do get a slight honey drizzle on my crazy creamy fruit love. I have to say that I'm very surprised. Cream is a horrible note of DOOM on me, and honey is far far more aggressive than it needs to be. Here it is kept in check. I find this to be a very pleasing scent, fruity-foodie, with an edge of floral that balances the sweetness out. But it's not floral in your face. And it's not foodie-sweet in your face either. I feel like it represents the bounty of the harvest, and the call of autumn reaping. I'm kinda glad I'm gifting this to a friend who couldn't make will-call, that way I cannot be enamored of this scent (nor can my husband, who I think would probably love this on me even more than I could). ETA: Roughly about... 6 hours later, this is basically honey on me. It smells like O, but better. Make of that what you will.

    Antonino, The Carny Talker

Now this is interesting, since lavender, plum and coconut are all powerhouses on my skin. Together, the whole of their parts is more pleasing than I thought it would be. The verbena adds a citrusy, almost limey, texture to the coconut, so it's a limey cucumber, with fruity lavender and musk. I think the boy needs to try this. I think I like this carny talker. I'm testing this out of jewelbug's bottle. But I make have to find an actual decant. In this particular decant, the verbena burned off rather quickly, and I'm left with a coconut/figgy musk which is very sweet. Not quite like at jewelbug's house, but then again, at that point, my nose might have been suffering from scent fatigue.

    King Cobra (2006)

This one is a sweet, coppery Snake Oil. Definitely frankincense. If that is your thing, this snake is for you. It's vanilla resin on the drydown on me.

    Torture King

At the beginning, this smells like a sexed up Voodoo. And then it dries, and the almond spicy cherryness of Voodoo fades, and the leather makes itself known. And now I can smell the lime on it. Limed leathers. Not so into that.

    Uruk

This one didn't work out for me. I think part of it was the jasmine, which was very sharp, and it was bitter, almost acrid, incense. Yeah, stinky and the bad kind too.

    Kathmandu

This was a surprise blend for me. It was sweet, but the lotus didn't go bubblegum on me. It was a sweet, almost rosy, scent with a base of spices. I very much enjoyed trying it.

    Philosopher in Meditation

This was incensey, smoky and the dying embers of this. Somewhat ashy and fire. Uh... yeah. Not my kind of thing.

    The Smiling Spider

Definitely very clovey! It's the most predominant note on me. It was like a sweet clove. You love cloves? This is it!

    Two Monsters

This one worked out better than I expected. At the beginning, it was very bitter - I think from a combination of leather and patchouli, and possibly the pepper. It dried to a sweet, incensey sort of blend with a hint of a white floral that I didn't recognize. Very pleasantly surprised.

    Carceri d'Invenzione

This is redwood and sandalwood, with incense thrown in. It's a sweet incensey blend. It's good, but I'm not crazy about incense blends to begin with.

    The Grand Inquisitor's Heretic's Fork

Oh man, I'm not a vetiver fan. This blend is all smoke and ozoney metal on me. It's a weird blend in that sense. And although I don't really smell 'blood', it kinda does have a 'bloody' overtone to it. Erm. Creepy.

Satan And Death With Sin Intervening

This was a citrusy incensey blend. It was slightly woody, and perhaps I smelled something tea-like in it. Very surprised by this one. Definitely one of the better incense blends that I've tried in the past couple weeks.

    The Ecstacy of St. Theresa

I have to say that this so didn't end up smelling like I thought it would - so it was iris and amber, and then it got this almost 'peach' overtone to it - which was juicy and sweet. And it ended up in a sweet, slightly powdery floral. Huh? Yeah.

    Monster Bait: Ventriloquist Dummy

My goodness. This is like if someone poured caramel over cedar. It is a sweet, woody blend. Not so sweet that it's coma inducing, and not so woody that it doesn't work. The cedar is fragrant and it's an odd yuxtaposition between the wood and the brown sugar sweetness, it's almost kinda nutty.

    Sepulcher

Ah, this is a lily rose, with a hint of gin. As all things rose, its the most dominant aspect of this blend. It's slightly sad, very melancholic and just with a hint of green.

    The Blasphemare Reliquary

I agree, that the rose in this is diffused and very subdued (I've got Tabula Sma on the other wrist). It's a warm, incensey, almost sticky blend. I have no idea how this could feel as sticky as it does, but it does. It's not sticky per se, but the impression of stickiness... well, it's very prevalent. Something here smells a little off though...

    Tabula Smaragdina

Rosicrucian incense. This is a rose/incense blend. After half an hour, the rose dominates almost completely, with a whiff of incense in the background. Yeah, I didn't think this would work out so well.

    Priala, the Human Phoenix (2006)

I have to say that the painting of Priala is one of my favorites in CD. Unfortunately, the notes kinda scared me! I finally tried this baby out and it turned out to be a very nice sweet, incensey smoke blend. Pretty.

    Agrat-Bat-Mahlaht

Oh man, at the beginning this is apple and honey and I swear the apple blossom actually makes me think of lilies. So it's more of a honeyed lily thing going on. As it dries, the amber and cream become more prominant. And the amber turns powdery and the cream curdles. You get the picture. It didn't work out.

    The Chapel 2008

Black incense, bitter wine, brimstone, and blood. The wine lends a bit of sweetness to this incensey blend. There's a bitter smoky overtone to the incense. I like this much more than I thought I would. If you're afraid of the description, don't be. This is a sweeter and less aggressive tone than it lets on. Maybe I amp up wine, but it's a boozy kind of incense. More like a debauched night out than a fire and brimstone scent. ETA: Edited to add description.
