Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
Electrogirl replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
Does anyone else remember Fresh Patchouli Pure? It smelled amazing on me, so naturally it was discontinued quite some time ago. The sweet notes really come through on my skin after a short time, balancing the patchouli and spice for a sexy, feminine effect. Top notes: ginger, bergamot, orange Middle notes: patchouli, cinnamon, pimento berry Base notes: vanilla, amber, tonka, musk -
Oh. My. God. I bought a bottle on faith, and I'm so glad I did. Must buy backup before the Carnaval leaves town! Why did I have to fall in love with a LE scent...? Wet: Patchouli. Not softly sensual patchouli, this is the olfactory equivalent of whips and leather. Whoa. Dry: Ooooh. Spices and something a bit sweet- the tea perhaps, or maybe the carnation- have come out to soften and balance the patchouli. Yummy! Still a don't-mess-with-me scent, but less overtly aggressive than the wet phase. Verdict: Love. Love love love.

Thank you BPAL for sending me this frimp! Tiger Lily isn't something I would've gravitated to on my own, but having tried it I loooove it. Must purchase a bottle when the imp runs out. Wet: Sweet florals (I'm not so good at identifying specific flower scents), warm honey, and a hint of spiciness. Nice. Sweeter than what I usually gravitate toward, but nice. Dry: Oooooh. Whatever the spicy base note is here, it grounds the flowers and honey just perfectly! Sweetly sexy. I can see this being great on a first date, where I don't want to wear something too overtly sensual like Snake Oil, but I still want to send off an approachable vibe. Verdict: I want a bottle!

I got this one as a frimp with my last order. Almond, myrrh, and musk, eh? Sounds worth a try. Wet: Cherry cough syrup?! Blech! Dry: Thank goodness, the cough syrup phase was brief. (Perhaps because I applied a very small amount, so it dried fast?) Now I'm getting the musk and myrrh, with a subtle hint of buttery almonds. Kinda nice, but it doesn't wow me. Verdict: It's going up for swap. The dry phase is not awesome enough on me to put up with the overpowering odor of cherry flavoring every time I open the imp.

I got this one as a freebie with my first order. Thanks, BPAL! Love the smell in the imp... sort of sweet-smoky-spicy. Sensual and decadent, mmm. Unfortunately, my chemistry seems to amp the sweet notes waaaay up to the point where I can hardly detect anything else. It hasn't been very long since I applied the oil, perhaps it will dry down to a more balanced scent. If not, I'll try aging it a few months and see what happens. EDIT: Much better on the drydown; the over-sweetness fades somewhat. I still don't smell leather, but I do smell something rich and smoky. Tobacco, perhaps? Still debating whether to buy a bottle.
