    ISO *Perfect* Winter Scent!

    Yes, maybe w/ more berries?
  2. thekittenkat

I want a BPAL that smells like Bath & Body Works...

I've wished for ages for a bpal dupe of Vanilla Bean Noel. Any suggestions?

    Boo Hair Gloss

Boo HG smells just like the perfume oil to me. I get whiffs of all 3 notes at different times. It's a nice light scent that works well w/ my lighter and sweeter autumnal scents. I need several sprays as my hair is longer again. It's also dry on the ends and frizzy all over, but since it's oily on top, I don't put much there. A lovely and not-too-sweet scent that could be used year-round.

    Dead Leaves, Honey, and Oudh

A yr's aging has done wonders for this! In the bottle: All the notes melding. Wet: Huge throw, but each note is very present and distinct. The dry-down:: The 3 notes slowly mix together. At the end is a soft honey tempered by the crisp leaves, with touches of the oudh.

Lithe and Lascivious Regret Bath Oil

LITHE AND LASCIVIOUS REGRET Thou wert fair in the fearless old fashion, And thy limbs are as melodies yet, And move to the music of passion With lithe and lascivious regret. What ailed us, O gods, to desert you For creeds that refuse and restrain? Come down and redeem us from virtue, Our Lady of Pain. Blackberry hops, blackened raspberry gum, purple chypre, and myrrh. Sniffing from the bottle, I get the raspberry note from Berry Moon '09, but it's muddled and darkened somewhat. When first applied to freshly-washed skin, it's mostly myrrh softened by the purple chypre (I do want to know what makes it purple!). That's a bit off-putting, as much I love myrrh, but as the minutes tick by, the fruity notes bloom and rise to the top. I this, and will be pairing it with my precious and lovely Berry Moon '09. Or, I could wear the moon in summer's daytime, and touch it up with this rich bath oil for summer evenings. ETA: I use bath oils as after-shower lotions. My skin is dryish and tends towards the acidic. ETA2: Why oh why do I get Berry Moon and Fruit Moon mixed up? Review now corrected.

    Red Velvet Truffle Bath Oil

The scent of pulverized red velvet cake mixed with cream cheese frosting, stuffed with candy bark, rolled into balls, and coated with white chocolate. Anyone who knows me well knows that I adore red velvet cake (it's basically but not exactly chocolate and there's cream cheese icing to boot!). So I was really looking forward to this bath oil. (Please note that I don't use the oil in the bath, as I'm a shower gal, and only use the bath oil like a lotion.) I applied some of this to the back of my clean and dry hands. First sniff, was just a generic sweet scent. As it dried, I got hints of the dire plastic note that vanilla can sometimes turn into on me. After it dried, there were whiffs of something like red velvet cake when I waved my hands around, but if I sniffed the skin, it was back to that mildly sweet scent. Several hours later, just that generic sweet scent. Maybe I amp cream cheese? Why couldn't I have ampped red velvet cake instead? I do so dislike to give a somewhat negative review, but I ordered this right away, instead of getting a decant, and I'm a bit saddened. I'll test again, after it has a bit more time to settle, and re-read the label to see if I need to gently mix or shake it. And then I'll edit this review, hopefully with better news. ETA: Well, it's been a while, so I'm trying this again. It's better for the aging, but there is a sharp note lurking under the generic sweetness. I'll revisit around Box of Chocolates time. Note that I did gently shake the oil before testing this time. Adding that the sharp note (what could that be?) does lessen as this dries down. I plan to layer with chocolate scents and cake scents.

Berry Scents - Blackberry, Red Berries

Berry Moon 2009 has blueberries and raspberries and is just a perfect summer scent. Lady Una has blackberry leaf. The 1st version of Mabon had yummy blackberries; the 2nd version was rather herbal and not much on the berry-side.
  8. Sugar Skull '14 was quite the best version of that that I have ever tried. It was sweet sugar on my skin, instead of going "poof!" as previous years' had. XOMom agreed w/ me.

    The Snow at Midnight

In the bottle: A pleasant mix of all the notes. Wet: Iced blackcurrant backed by spices. The dry-down: I'm getting a hint of the soapiness that others have mentioned, but at least the blackcurrant isn't amping on me. Undecided about this. May try on Mr. Kat.

    Gemini 2016

In the bottle; Very fresh mint with a touch of clove. Wet: Vibrant mint, but with the frank and clove as a base. The dry-down: The mint plant is now growing under the shade of the pine trees (aka the elemi). There's a slight hint of a tea note (aka bergamot), and deep under all the other notes lurks the frank and clove. I'm not quite sure that this is quite me, but as a Gemini, I did want to try it. Certainly a summer scent and is unisex.

    Snow White

This for the 2015 version. In the bottle: Soft sweet vanilla, w/ hints of snow and florals underneath. Wet: Much as on cold sniff, but with a trace of coconut. The dry-down: Much the same throughout. A lovely version, but tends to fades faster than I would like,

    Samhain

This is for the 2015 edition. In the bottle: The fruit notes are very intense! Wet: The fruit is calming down and the darker notes are more present. The dry-down: A rather fruity version that has the clove, patch, fir, woods and spices at the bottom. This is like the apple and pumpkin have been placed in a clear glass bowl on top of the woody items, and lightly sprinkled with the spices. It did start out a bit perfumy, but is aging well for next autumn ETA Aging hasn't really helped. It's still very appley and perfumey; I think I'll layer this w/ an earlier version that's lacking apple.

    Stale Sugar-Crusted Marshmallow Chick

In the bottle: Yuppers, that's the stale Peeps! Mother gave me some every year for Easter. Well, they weren't stale at the time! Wet: About the same. Drying down: Sweeter and with more marshmallow, but a hint of the staleness lingers. A bit later: This is more like Boo '09 w/o the linen note--I just had to give it time. Btw, when I received this in the mail a couple of weeks, it had barely any scent. I think it might make a nice layering note. Oh dear, now it's a bit plastic. Half-an-hour later it's more like the cold sniff! A morpher, for sure.

    The Candy Butcher (2015)

I never got to try the original, but when a friend included this in a joint order, I had to test it! In the bottle: dark chocolate and some cream and something like incense Wet: much the same as the cold sniff The dry-down: in the end, I get more of the incense note than either the chocolate or cream I'm glad I got to try this, but that's abt it. Oh yes, it smelt better on my friend. I must admit that I was a bit disappointed, as I love chocolate scents.

    Melty Creme Egg

From sniffing the bottle to the dry-down, this was, as Mr. Kat, said, a Cadbury Creme egg all the way.

    Rhinotoros

RHINOTOROS Skin-Piercing Vetiver, patchouli, white pepper, and grapefruit. I must admit that I was a little hesitant to try Rhinotoros. Pepper, patch, and vetiver? I imagined that they would all combine to overwhelm the yummy grapefruit. My fears were somewhat unfounded. The grapefruit tames those three notes to such an extent that this is not a dark and dusky scent. Strangely enough, for what I might consider a somewhat masculine perfume oil, this dries down to a balancing act amongst the four notes, with the sparkle of the grapefruit giving Rhinotoros a lighter feeling than expected. (This is not sweet at all; remember that a lot of people put sugar or honey on grapefruit sections to eat them. I'm reminded more of unsweetened pink grapefruit juice in the carton. No sugar or honey here, just the juice. Btw, I like unsweetened grapefruit juice.)

    Snow Scents!

There are at least three different snow notes used by the Lab and the Post: sweet, ice/ozone, and minty. See my posts about these notes from Dec. '14 in this same thread. Some folks have mentioned a spicy snow note, but I'm not sure of any scents that have been ID'ed w/ that note. I'll bet that one of the three snow notes may be the culprit, alas.

    HalĂ´a

Wine grapes, pomegranate, myrrh, frankincense and olive leaf, and the warm scent of offertory cakes. In the bottle: There's a hint of all the notes, as though they had been mixed into a white wine (non-alcoholic) from those grapes (green, I suspect). Wet: Now the pomegranate comes bursting through, with the gentle olive leaf in its train. The cake note is rounding this out, so it's not too fruity. The dry-down: The myrrh and frankincense are present, but only in a mild fashion, and the grapes are combining with the pome for a lovely light fruit note. If you don't want to smell like winter holiday sweet heavy food and drink or snowy woods or the Christmas tree, but still want a lovely light scent for the winter holiday season, this may be a scent to try. ETA: It's a rather elegant scent.

best bpals to wear when it rains

Where I live, we don't get a lot of snow/ice in the winter, so I would adore recs for cold, rain days. I do tend to wear Yules through Valentine's Day, btw.

    Lick It With Consent (2014)

in the bottle: Fresh mint with sugar, but what kind of mint? Wet: More like a spearmint than a peppermint. Not very sweet. The dry-down: Now more the peppermint emerges, along with some sugar. On the bf, it's more sweet and pepperminty, but my skin is more acidic while his tends more to the basic. I adore this series, and LIwC has aged beautifully.
