    Falling Leaf Moon

Well, it's a cool, rainy early fall evening, so at least this is appropriate! I wasn't sure about this 'cause I don't like Patchouli, but I like all the other notes so thought I'd go ahead with it. As it happens, I like this a lot. Fortunately. Lesson #1: don't go opening bottles of scented oils when I get home from work on Friday. The hands are stiff and a bit numb from a week at work, and the bottle spilled. There's plenty left, but the house has smelled like Falling Leaf Moon for a week now. You'd think it wouldn't last quite so long. And I'm lucky to have missed the keyboard! So, I've just tried it on myself for the first time tonight, and the patchouli is stronger than I thought. I really like the rain-on-dried-leaves scent. How much of what I'm sniffing is me or is leftover from the spill...

    Strawberry Moon 2009

I almost didn't get this because I don't like strawberry scented stuff. And I cringed when I first opened the bottle - the strawberry was soooo strong. But I tried it on anyway, and I fell completely in love with it. I wish I'd gotten more than one bottle.

    Thirteen (13): February 2009

This is the second bottle I received this week that seemed to be just brown sugar and nothing else when I tried it on. Not terribly into sugar, brown or otherwise. I was hoping more for the chocolate and spices. I'm encouraged by the idea of aging since I really liked the idea of all these scents together. I'll put it aside and try again later. A month or two? Or six, or a year? Any ideas?

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Thank you so much for the spreadsheet! It's just what I needed and I've been putting off making one for myself. It opens very nicely in NeoOffice for those with Macs, too.

    On Darkness

I bought this for the lavender, amber, and benzoin, well, and the name... I totally love this one! It smelled sharp in the bottle to me and didn't seem to do much when I tried it on the first time. Disappeared pretty quick. So I took it to work and tried it on a little more heavily, and WOW! I expected my nearest coworker to complain as she is allergic to everything, but she hasn't reacted so far. I've been reapplying it about five hours later and it seems to amp up even more. It can certainly handle the volume, air currents and various other odors in the warehouse. The scent does change from a sharp herbal/floral in the bottle to a thick, syrupy, but not overly sweet on my skin. I'm finding it to be fun trying to figure out what's going to change on me and what isn't.

    Metal Phoenix

I got mine in the mail today. After letting it thaw out , I gave it a shake and opened it up. Love the scent in the bottle! A little citrus, a little spice, a little honeysuckle, an edge of ozone and metal. Really well balanced, I thought. The metal came strongly to the front when first on, but on drydown it turned into a delicate filigree of silver and tiny flowers. Very pretty, definitely a keeper, but more of a spring/summer scent for me, I think.

    Crossroads

I was soooo looking forward to this! The description is perfect for me. Alas, here is my first disappointment with the Lab. The first sniff was greeny and sharp with some florals coming in later. On, it was very floral with the green underneath. As it dried it turned completely into burnt plastic, with a nauseatingly sweet note to it. Very strong, too, of course. I finally had to wash my hands. Twice. Then wash the dishes, then use an alcohol scrub. I can still smell it faintly, but I'm hoping I can cover it with something else. What could the burnt plastic be? I'll have to watch out for it...

    Silk Road

A panoply of cultural treasures, spanning the herbs, flowers, oils and balms of the Romans, the Byzantines, the Mediterranean, the Levant, Northern China, Eastern Europe, Iran, the Bulgar-Kypchak, Mesopotamia, the Crimean Peninsula, Anatolia, Antioch, and North Africa. I think I was expecting something very strongly spicey with this and I was looking forward to it. What I got was not what I expected. The best way I could explain it was that instead of getting the scent of the stores at the journey's end, I got the scents of the journey itself. Sure there were spices, but there was sand, and the dust from the mountain paths, camels and yurts, a hint of this spice, then that one, and last of all, silk itself. Really, this doesn't last anywhere long enough! The scent ran out long before I was finished puzzling out the mix. I'm utterly entranced! imp: spices and florals, mostly wet: "hot" spices, florals, the mountains approaching drying: sand, camels, silk, spices floral in that order pretty much dry: sand, silk, spices, floral, mountains lingering: silk For "mountains" I seem to smell sunlight on granite, pine woods, a bit of animal, composting leaves and needles...it's definitely there. I'm trying this at work tomorrow, hope it doesn't get overwhelmed by the scents there.

    The Jersey Devil

I just got my first set of imps on Saturday and wore Jersey Devil at work today. It was wonderful! In the bottle: the cranberry is really strong, with the pine and leafy stuff underneath it. On wet: pretty much the same as the bottle, but even more of the cranberry dry: hardly morphs at all, though the tomato leaf starts to add itself to the blend. I wouldn't consider this a "Christmas" scent myself. I really liked this at work (large warehouse, very dry and dusty) and no one objected, so I'm for sure keeping it around.
