    Sundew

A carnivorous enchantress: diverse, lovely and graceful, emitting a sticky, glowing golden, sweet and terminally inviting scent. Its dew is believed to grant eternal beauty and longevity, and restore vitality and vigor to the magician. First sniff: Like laying in a field of wet flowers watching the sunrise. I know it sounds funny but it's just...oh. Oh. Wet: I'm probably going to be flogged for this but it reminds me a lot of the smell of sunwashed linen. When you wash it and hang it out to dry on a nice ripe breezy sunny day. It reminds me a lot of Daffodil mixed in with the soft aquatic I get from Kingsport. You can tell it's a very sort of yellow scent if that makes sense but it's not cloying. Dry: Oh its a soft muted floral now that reminds me of a daydream...sweet and subtle. Fleeting but very memorable. The staying power seems to be pretty good as well, not as strong as it was when I first tried it but still very much there. Lovely, it's like a lovely spring morning in a bottle.

    Medea

Granddaughter of Helios, Hecate's chosen: Medea was one of the greatest sorceresses of the ancient world. She is the embodiment of ruthless power, indomitable will and furious vengeance. Night-blooming cereus, black orchid, black currant and myrtle leaf enshrouded in the incense of Hecate's cypress and myrrh, and the dark rage of magickal labdanum and intoxicating poppy. First sniff Flowery and herbaly and a bit incense ridden as well to my nose. The most prominent note to me is the orchid followed closely by the currants. Wet Wet this reminds me a lot of Old Cairo, that sort of incensy, floating down the Nile while half naked oiled slaves feed you grapes and massage your body. However there is a darker element coming into play, sort of like the scent is letting you know its not as bright as it claims to be. The currant and incense is a really heady combination. Drydown Wow. This smells like an aquatic-tinged wine now. Very very different from the inital vibe I got its now very dark. A bit sweet as well, the incense is completely and utterly gone now and all I can smell is the currants and orchids. Aftermath Orginially I was going to pass up on Medea but the drydown is LOVELY. Imagine sitting by an ocean during a storm, the waves crashing against the shore but you have an EXCELLENT glass of deep dark red wine with you. That's Medea. Tis lovely.

    Penny Dreadful

Also called Gallows Literature. A dime novel rife with melodrama, horror, madness and cruelty; a ten cent analogy of vice and virtue in conflict. Soft perfume evocative of noir heroines over rich red grave loam. First Sniff: Baby powder. Baby powder, ginger and something sweet...maybe vanilla? It's very odd. It smells like something you're not suppossed to like but do anyway. Weird. Wet: Dammit I know what this scent is but my mind is completely not cooperating. Oh wait! It's like Shub-Niggurath's younger but just as bad sister. Which on reflect would be really odd but that's what it reminds me of. There's also a hit of something darker and more rich, sandalwood maybe? Dry: Gingerbread Poppet minus the buttery note with a dose of sandalwood. Aftermath: I need to get to know this better. I know there is an aspect of the perfume I'm missing but I can't place my fingers on it. Will update the review accordingly

    Veil

Lab's Description: A quiet scent, soft, calm and enigmatic. A perfume of mystery, of whispers, and of secrets behind secrets. White sandalwood, lilac, gardenia, violet, orris, lavender and ylang ylang. Oh this is such a lovely soft scent I don't know even where to begin. The lavender and violet blend so well it's a very subtle and calming scent with a hint of mystery. However I kept trying to pin what it smells like but I couldn't until I recieved a visit and realized. This scent smells like a newborn baby. My goddaughter is about 3 months old and this smells exactly like her...a bit baby powderish but not overpoweringly so. Not at all. It also has tremendous staying power a little of this stuff goes a long long way. I had someone come up to me in the bookstore and mention how lovely I smelled. Do try it if you want to smell lovely and soft

    Dragon Moon 2006

In Imperial China, the Dragon was the symbol of the Emperor's power, and to this day, the concept and the image of the Dragon is considered sacrosanct. The Dragon is a symbol of power, the Lord of weather and water. The Dragon Moon celebrates the glory and vigor of Springtime: dragon's blood resin, tea leaf, bamboo reed, sandalwood and cherry blossom. First Sniff: Holiday Moon + Dragon's Blood. More specifically the tea leaf pops out more then anything. I can barely make out the sandalwood and the cherry blossom is non existant. Wet: Oh my. Dragon's Blood is REALLY strong on me, it almost overpowers everything else. There's a hint of tea (or something else green) but I just get this strong smell of dragon's blood that completely obliterates everything else. Drydown: WOW. The other scents are coming together to fight for dominance,it's like there's an epic battle on my wrist. WHO WILL WIN? THE OTHER NOTES OR THE DRAGON?! It's very green on me right now with a hazy tinge of red. It reminds me a lot of Neo-Tokyo actually, must be the shared note of Cherry Blossom. Aftermath: The asian moons have been hit and miss for me (mostly miss) but if you can deal with the inital blast of Dragon's Blood I think you might enjoy this particular moon. I definitely wasn't expecting it to drydown into this dragonteafloral but it did and its lovely.

    Hymn to Proserpine

I have lived long enough, having seen one thing, that love hath an end; Goddess and maiden and queen, be near me now and befriend. Thou art more than the day or the morrow, the seasons that laugh or that weep; For these give joy and sorrow; but thou, Proserpina, sleep. Sweet is the treading of wine, and sweet the feet of the dove; But a goodlier gift is thine than foam of the grapes or love. Yea, is not even Apollo, with hair and harpstring of gold, A bitter God to follow, a beautiful God to behold? I am sick of singing; the bays burn deep and chafe: I am fain To rest a little from praise and grievous pleasure and pain. For the Gods we know not of, who give us our daily breath, We know they are cruel as love or life, and lovely as death. O Gods dethroned and deceased, cast forth, wiped out in a day! From your wrath is the world released, redeemed from your chains, men say. New Gods are crowned in the city; their flowers have broken your rods; They are merciful, clothed with pity, the young compassionate Gods. But for me their new device is barren, the days are bare; Things long past over suffice, and men forgotten that were. Time and the Gods are at strife; ye dwell in the midst thereof, Draining a little life from the barren breasts of love. I say to you, cease, take rest; yea, I say to you all, be at peace, Till the bitter milk of her breast and the barren bosom shall cease. Wilt thou yet take all, Galilean? but these thou shalt not take, The laurel, the palms and the paean, the breasts of the nymphs in the brake; Breasts more soft than a dove's, that tremble with tenderer breath; And all the wings of the Loves, and all the joy before death; All the feet of the hours that sound as a single lyre, Dropped and deep in the flowers, with strings that flicker like fire. More than these wilt thou give, things fairer than all these things? Nay, for a little we live, and life hath mutable wings. A little while and we die; shall life not thrive as it may? For no man under the sky lives twice, outliving his day. And grief is a grievous thing, and a man hath enough of his tears: Why should he labour, and bring fresh grief to blacken his years? Thou hast conquered, O pale Galilean; the world has grown grey from thy breath; We have drunken of things Lethean, and fed on the fullness of death. Laurel is green for a season, and love is sweet for a day; But love grows bitter with treason, and laurel outlives not May. Sleep, shall we sleep after all? for the world is not sweet in the end; For the old faiths loosen and fall, the new years ruin and rend. Fate is a sea without shore, and the soul is a rock that abides; But her ears are vexed with the roar and her face with the foam of the tides. O lips that the live blood faints in, the leavings of racks and rods! O ghastly glories of saints, dead limbs of gibbeted Gods! Though all men abase them before you in spirit, and all knees bend, I kneel not neither adore you, but standing, look to the end. All delicate days and pleasant, all spirits and sorrows are cast Far out with the foam of the present that sweeps to the surf of the past: Where beyond the extreme sea-wall, and between the remote sea-gates, Waste water washes, and tall ships founder, and deep death waits: Where, mighty with deepening sides, clad about with the seas as with wings, And impelled of invisible tides, and fulfilled of unspeakable things, White-eyed and poisonous-finned, shark-toothed and serpentine-curled, Rolls, under the whitening wind of the future, the wave of the world. The depths stand naked in sunder behind it, the storms flee away; In the hollow before it the thunder is taken and snared as a prey; In its sides is the north-wind bound; and its salt is of all men's tears; With light of ruin, and sound of changes, and pulse of years: With travail of day after day, and with trouble of hour upon hour; And bitter as blood is the spray; and the crests are as fangs that devour: And its vapour and storm of its steam as the sighing of spirits to be; And its noise as the noise in a dream; and its depth as the roots of the sea: And the height of its heads as the height of the utmost stars of the air: And the ends of the earth at the might thereof tremble, and time is made bare. Will ye bridle the deep sea with reins, will ye chasten the high sea with rods? Will ye take her to chain her with chains, who is older than all ye Gods? All ye as a wind shall go by, as a fire shall ye pass and be past; Ye are Gods, and behold, ye shall die, and the waves be upon you at last. In the darkness of time, in the deeps of the years, in the changes of things, Ye shall sleep as a slain man sleeps, and the world shall forget you for kings. Though the feet of thine high priests tread where thy lords and our forefathers trod, Though these that were Gods are dead, and thou being dead art a God, Though before thee the throned Cytherean be fallen, and hidden her head, Yet thy kingdom shall pass, Galilean, thy dead shall go down to thee dead. Of the maiden thy mother men sing as a goddess with grace clad around; Thou art throned where another was king; where another was queen she is crowned. Yea, once we had sight of another: but now she is queen, say these. Not as thine, not as thine was our mother, a blossom of flowering seas, Clothed round with the world's desire as with raiment, and fair as the foam, And fleeter than kindled fire, and a goddess, and mother of Rome. For thine came pale and a maiden, and sister to sorrow; but ours, Her deep hair heavily laden with odour and colour of flowers, White rose of the rose-white water, a silver splendour, a flame, Bent down unto us that besought her, and earth grew sweet with her name. For thine came weeping, a slave among slaves, and rejected; but she Came flushed from the full-flushed wave, and imperial, her foot on the sea. And the wonderful waters knew her, the winds and the viewless ways, And the roses grew rosier, and bluer the sea-blue stream of the bays. Ye are fallen, our lords, by what token? we wise that ye should not fall. Ye were all so fair that are broken; and one more fair than ye all. But I turn to her still, having seen she shall surely abide in the end; Goddess and maiden and queen, be near me now and befriend. O daughter of earth, of my mother, her crown and blossom of birth, I am also, I also, thy brother; I go as I came unto earth. In the night where thine eyes are as moons are in heaven, the night where thou art, Where the silence is more than all tunes, where sleep overflows from the heart, Where the poppies are sweet as the rose in our world, and the red rose is white, And the wind falls faint as it blows with the fume of the flowers of the night, And the murmur of spirits that sleep in the shadow of Gods from afar Grows dim in thine ears and deep as the deep dim soul of a star, In the sweet low light of thy face, under heavens untrod by the sun, Let my soul with their souls find place, and forget what is done and undone. Thou art more than the Gods who number the days of our temporal breath; Let these give labour and slumber; but thou, Proserpina, death. Therefore now at thy feet I abide for a season in silence. I know I shall die as my fathers died, and sleep as they sleep; even so. For the glass of the years is brittle wherein we gaze for a span; A little soul for a little bears up this corpse which is man. So long I endure, no longer; and laugh not again, neither weep. For there is no God found stronger than death; and death is a sleep. The darkening amber of faith’s sunset, deepened by the dark fruits of Proserpine. I quoted the entire poem because Swinburne = YAY. First sniff: Amber fruits. At first sniff it reminds me a lot of a warmer Morocco with hints of the Pomegrante I get in Persephone. Wet: It's pomegrantes dipped in amber buffed with the warmth of the earth and the last rays of a spring day. I don't know if there is pomegrante in this but it's what my body is amping up the most. I also get a bit of sandalwood but it's not the usual cloying I get when I wear sandalwood, it more anchors the scent firmly in the earth. At least it SMELLS like sandalwood, whether or not that's in the perfume is anyone's guess. The amber is of a sweet nature, not overpowering but just the right hint to push the scent into pure warmth. Drydown: The amber comes out more and also I get a hint of baby powder, no clue where that is coming from. It also turns into a bit of a warm floral on me. It sort of reminds me of a cross between morocco and bearded lady actually. Not necessarily because there's vanilla (cause I don't smell any) but the nice warm drydown I get from B.L. is a lot like this. Think Morocco's more sensual older sister. Aftermath: HELL YES

    Nosferatu

We've finally caved in to years of requests for vampiric scents. As soft as grave dust and as dry as a breath drawn within a long forgotten crypt, this is Nosferatu: desiccated herbs and gritty earth brought to life with a swell of robust and sanguineous red wines. When I got my mammoth LE order I decided to review some of the new scents first as there are already reviews of the Halloween stuff. Nosferatu instantly sprung to my mind since so many people had been clamoring for it and the weather outside is perfect for it. First sniff Oh goodness. Sweet, fresh herbs drenched in a decadent red wine. A bit pungent yet seductive. If it had a colour it would be deep bloodied burgundy...a red so dark its almost black. Mindblowing. Wet I'm absolutely flabbergasted. A very dark feral scent but there's a cloying sweetness that just has me sniffing my wrists over and over and over again. The red wine in this prevents the earthiness from overpowering and making you smell like a freshly tilled grave. It's WONDERFUL. Drydown Is it possible to get drunk on a scent? This dries down into an exquisite heady sort of scent that oozes sensuality and dark lust. The herbs provide a base preventing the sweetness from becoming overpowering (a bit of a role reversal from when its wet) and lend a sort of mysterious, "don't fuck with me vibe" to the overall scent. Aftermath I started shuddering as I wore this, it gives me a feeling in my stomach of absolute wanton lust and desire. I can't explain it. It's so decadent and yet there's a sense of WRONGNESS to it. Beth has perfectly captured the whole romantic aspect of a vampire. I'm amazed and SO buying a 5ml during the next Lunar update.

    Agrat-Bat-Mahlaht

Amber, cream accord, white honey, apple blossom, skin musk, caramel, and teak. I feel like Mario from the Super Mario Brothers video games series reviewing this lol. "It's-a me! Belladonnastrap!" Anyway I'm so so thankful to Beth and the Lab for letting me take part in this amazing series. I love you guys! I'm not worthy! First Sniff Like Red Lantern and O got together and did nasty, dirty, NAUGHTY things in the backroom of a honey hive. I keep reading that this smells like one of the Shunga scents (which I never smelled so I can't attest to that) but I suppose it makes sense considering in the picture a guy has been killed right after coitus. My skin chemistry rarely amps caramel until much much later but I do get the lovely skin musk note in O that makes me go "Oooooooooh." I can't smell any apple on me which is odd because next to skin musk and amber, apple is the one note that you can smell on me miles away. It's somewhat foody but yet not. I'm a big fan of gourmand scents that don't leave one smelling like a bakery and this delivers. It's a very sensual smell. Go me! Wet Ah-HA! There is the caramel and apple. Pretty much the same as first sniff but wet the more subtle nuances come out. Make no mistake this IS somewhat foody but it's upscale. The apple prevents the whole scent from becoming just O or Red Lantern 2.0 by giving it a bit of tart and tang to it. No cream accord yet but if it's anything like Loves Philosophy it'll take a couple of hours for the cream to kick in on me. I do want to talk about the honey note though. It doesn't smell like any honey I'm accustomed to. It is honey, make no mistake about that but it's a light almost fruity honey. Drydown BRB HUMPING ARM. No seriously, this is delicious. All the elements mellow into this rich, heady scent that is pretty subtle until you get close and then BAM! All the elements smack you in the face with deliciousness. The cream really comes out to play on the drydown of this , you'd think it would bump it over to ZOMGSWEET catagory but really it enhances everything else. Up to this point I got no teak whatsoever. Zilch, nada. Now I get the teak and wow, it completely elevates the perfume into something else. It's a dark gourmand scent. I suppose I'm a bit biased but I think the perfume perfectly captures the scene and mood of the painting. There's that deep decadent er...sexual aspect of it but there's a definite tang to it. The staying power is pretty darn long, I put it on around 8:00am before I left for work and I (and my co-workers, this ish has some major throw whoa!) could smell it around 2:00pm. It was even remarked that around my desk it smelled like sex, so a word of caution with that Aftermath PLS BE TO BUYING ME KTHXBYE. Let me stop, no this is an amazing scent. I'm thrilled that I was able to be a part of this and I'm ecstatic that I smell so GOOD. Beth always amazes me with her creations but I think with the Carnaval she has completely and utterly outdone herself. If you're a fan of O, Red Lantern and to a lesser degree Honey Moon & Loves Philosophy do give this scent a try. I proudly give this my stamp of approval...which is good since I'm the cover girl

    Oneiroi

Created to invoke the ancient Greek deities of dreams. On the shores of the ocean, somewhere in the West, they dwell behind their gates of horn and ivory. Soporific, dark and unfathomable: a somnambular blend of deep lavender, white sandalwood, jasmine, bergamot and mugwort. Inital Thoughts: If Neil Gaiman's Sandman had a scent this would be it. I smell it and it invokes the colour midnight blue and silver. Sort of like Lush's Lavender Snowflower ballistic but not. The sandalwood and mugwort really stands out in my mind. It's a scent one would like to cuddle up I think. I can't way to test it out. After Wearing it: Have you guys ever smelled Johnson & Johnson's Lavender Baby Powder? Oneiroi smells exactly like that. It's very elusive as well...I smell Lavender as the prominent note but there's other layers that I can't quite get...mugwort is definitely strong. This scemt is very subtle and understated orginally I didn't think it was going to last but I would turn my head and get the faintest wiff of it. Like a memory....it's a very nice scent.

    Springtime scents

Hello Ladies and Gents. Even though it is quite cold outside here in good olde new york city I am looking toward spring and was wondering if maybe we could start a thread as to what scents would be best for this season. That way people have a quick reference and then they can head into the reviews section to learn more. What do you think?

    Yvaine

She was sprawled, awkwardly, beneath the hazel tree, and she gazed up at Tristran with a scowl of complete unfriendliness. She hefted another clod of mud at him, menacingly, but did not throw it. Her eyes were red and raw. Her hair was so fair it was almost white, her dress was of blue silk which shimmered in the candlelight. She glittered as she sat there. The high, crystalline scent of a star-filled night with blue lavender and lush magnolia. The first Neil Gaiman book I ever read was Stardust. I was at Gen Con & my ex boyfriend was in one of the game rooms playing Bob, Overlord of Evil. I decided to go sit outside and read this book called Stardust that was written by the guy who wrote Sandman. I liked Sandman so I figured the book would be pretty cool. I sat for about...maybe 5 hours in the bright Wisconsin sun, enthralled. I had always liked fairy tales and this was a fairy tale..but done with bite. There was humor and lust and laughter and creepiness. It was about two people who fell in love almost accidently and it quickly became my favourite book of all time So imagine my shout of joy when I found out that there were gonna be BPAL scents based on it! First sniff: Effervescent with bite. The lavender isn't really prominent on me (unlike say Oneiroi) and I can barely smell the magnolia. Its a very cool sort of scent, very fitting. Wet Awful sweet now and it reminds me a lot of Urania (hah!). I was really worried Yvaine would turn into a floral sort of mess but it's very very subtle yet sweet with a sharp tang to it. Drydown Maybe it's me, maybe it's this heat but Yvaine completely disappears on me in strongness...yet if I turn my head I get faint wisps of it. It's not a balls in your face scent (well in the beginning it is. Fitting again since Yvaine pretty much gets all up in your grill) but very subtle and fleeting and..twilightish. Completely and utterly on the ball. Buy if if you're a fan of Moon Rose, The Unicorn, Urania and all the lovely twilight ethereal scents Beth does.

    La Belle Dame Sans Merci

The name translates to "The beautiful woman without mercy", and is the title of an old French court poem that was later revamped by John Keats. A bewitching seductive scene, rife with mystery and foreboding. Inital thoughts: POWER. Rich and heady. It smells like what I'd imagine Mata Hari (a famous exotic dancer who was accused by the French for spying for the Germans during WWI) would wear. Definitely strong...the scent lingers even after I've shut the bottle. It's a confident smell. I can't make out what exactly is in it...I think maybe cloves. It sort of smells like freshner. Doubt I'll be keeping it which is a shame I wanted to like it! After wearing it: It smells like cinnamon roses. The strongness definitely wears off after a couple of mintues (maybe 15) and the scent of roses kicks in. Even later then that it smells cinnamon with a hint of roseyness. I still stand by the fact that its a confident smell but more feminine. As in "I'm a lady who is beautiful and elegant but I'm not afraid to kick your ass if need be." Still not sure if I'm keeping it though.

    Saint-Germain

"A man who knows everything and who never dies." Said to have lived for centuries, the Comte de Saint-Germain is truly a man of legend and mystery. He was an aristocrat, master alchemist, adventurer, magician, artist, and seer with a lust for exquisite jewels, and was reputed to have attained knowledge of the Elixer of Life. His knowledge was so vast and all-encompassing that his claim to have lived hundreds of years - he allegedly knew Jesus and was present at the Council of Nicea - was widely accepted as true. He is a Hermetic Magician's hero for the ages, and his scent is an elegant, timeless, truly refined cologne, bold yet classic: gilded amber, hypnotic lavender, brash carnation and deep mosses. First sniff A very clean and masculine sort of scent, the amber and carnation automatically burst out on me. It smells like something a really intelligent and yet sexy man would wear upon getting out of a shower. Wet ...rawr. Masculine out the wazoo, the amber just *sings* and douses everything in its wake. Mmm. I want to crawl up in my hand and sigh. Drydown Whoa. This is the scent of a man who would read a book to you while you were curled up in his arms on a rainy day. It's very comfortable and refined. There's a bit of sweetness (which I'm assuming is the lavender) and a bit of tartness as well. Giles from Buffy the Vampire would smell like this Aftermath Well BPAL once again succeds in me wishing I had a boyfriend! This is a lovely comforting scent that would smell absolutely divine on a man but on a woman it's very very comfortable, like that old ratty sweater you dig out on a bad day. I'll probably not buy a bottle but I most definitely will almost always keep an imp on hand for my not so good days

    Arabian Nights

A love oil with a twist. Attracts new friends & lovers to your life by enhancing your personal magnetism and charisma For the most part I will forgo my normal review format as I use/d this ritually and so it matters not if the staying power and drydown are influences if I keep it or not. First Sniff I actually think theres a bit of lavender in this because I smell that and roses. No clue what else is in it though...it smells very pretty. Usage I decided to try this out the day I got my hair done. I woke up and anointed my pulse points with the oil while murmuring "I want new people in my life" and went along my merry way. I had a couple of random conversations BEFORE I got to the hairdressers when is sort of weird considering I was bundled up like a yeti and sweating like one. Afterwards I definitely noticed a lot more smiles (that could have been the new hairdo' however) and I actually felt a lot more confident. I wore it out again to dinner with an old friend (anointing my wrists and a sliver of pink wax I carried with me) and they remarked I seemed much more happier and "glowy" which is odd consdiering the past two months have been hellish. I don't know if this has brought new lovers to my life but I know I've made a couple of new friends since I've started to carry it around on the pink wax. I'll probably do a full blown ritual and update this review accordingly.

    Temple of the Loas

No description Let me start off by saying that I'm not a very good person when it comes to picking out specific notes and whatnot...but I don't really think that's the purpose of this oil anyway. However for the sake of the review and the fact that I haven't had an oppertunity to USE this yet I'll use the normal format. First Sniff: This smells like a tropical rose. Maybe rose tinged with mango? Wet: More tropical and actually a bit musky. It reminds me a lot of what I imagine the romantized carribbean would smell like. A woman with caramel colored skin drssed in brightly colored clothes with a flower in her hair and a basket full of mangos balanced on the top of her head walks down the street and if you listen closely you can hear the men chanting to the seductive beat of a drum. There's a slight breeze in the air that brings the scents of heated skin, fruits, flowers and the sweet tangyness of the ocean to your nose. EDIT: Add some Jasmine to the mix now. Purpose: I'm actually not quite sure how this would be used as I've never worked with the Loas before but I have a few ideas and plan on reporting back

Goblin of Yuletide Past Atmosphere Spray

Powdery snow, glittering softly with the sweetness of memory, juniper, and heliotrope, with a faint hint of cinnamon-sprinkled sugar cookie. Mmm! Smelling this is sort of like a Thomas Kinkade painting minus the crazy connontations that come with it. At first sniff all I get is the snow, it smells very much like Skadi. Then all of a sudden this crazy sweetness comes in and you get sugar cookies and snow. Kind of like you were walking in a forest, smelling the pine and snow and then all of a sudden the smell of baking cookies hits you. It's very homey and refreshing. I loves it

    Hod

HOD Glory and Majesty, Kokab, God's Judgement. On further information I found the following: First Sniff: It smells like a milkier version of O! Wet: *thud* Amber, Rose and Honey. There's a wee bit of almond in there as well which makes me hesitate because even though I adore the smell of almond it has an absolutely HORRID reaction to my skin. Nothing bad though but there *is* a slight tingle so I'm pretty sure there's some almond in this. Drydown: Imagine O and Le Petit Mort getting together and producing offspring. That would be Hod. The almond has mellowed down into almost the barest whiff (thank the GODS that means I can wear this) but the amber and honey are still hanging in. This also reminds me a bit of Dana O'Shee as well, it has that lovely milkiness. Staying power: Holy cow Hod LASTS. 4 hours later and it's just as sweet and amberrosehoney smelling as it was when I first put it on. It's also lasted through 3 rounds of washing dishes, 2 handwashes and a healthy dosage of bleach since I cleaned up earlier. All in all it's a wonderful scent and fans of Dana O'Shee, Alice, O, Le Petit Mort & others like it should definitely seek it out! It's like the bastard child of all of those. Gonna have to save the pennies for a big one of this. (Edited to add staying power)

    EPIC BPAL Spreadsheet Thread

Hi everyone! I'm extremely pressed for time and do not have the time to figure out my new spreadsheet software so I was wondering if anyone here has all of the oils with their descriptions (including the new ones) in a file and if you do could you perhaps send to me? I would love to re-read and savour it while on my long flight on Wednesday. If you do just fire off a PM and I'll recieve it...thanks so much! (posted in BPAL chatter but if it belongs in randomness you can just move it...I wasn't sure where to put it! )

    Redirect Issues

Hii everyone! We know about the redirect issue some are having. It sucks We're working on trying to get a fix as quick as possible (who wants to look at boobies when we're trying to find out if the new Doc Constantine is better than the old?!) but in the meantime a couple of things: 1) If you can, avoid using google to search for a scent. We know the issue mainly comes from that although there HAVE been instances where it's redirected from the forum itself. 2) If you have any swap/circle transactions on the forum please screenshot them or write the information down. If the forum has to go offline for the fix to be applied (which is a definite possibility) we would have to do it ASAP and don't want the forumites left holding the bag on their swaps. We'll try to give as much of a heads up as possible, however it's best to be a bit proactive in this case. Thanks again, and sorry about this. We came to read reviews and chew bubblegum and it seems we're a bit out on both at the moment :/

    Carnivàle

Bright, intoxicating, hectic notes masking a twisted, corrupted core: sweet wild berry, spicy carnation and heliotrope layered over deep amber and musk. Initial thoughts: Definitely a bright scent! I can smell the musk and berry more then anyting. It reminds me a lot of Cirque du Soliel...playful and yet you can sense that there's more. It seems very much a deep scent if that makes any sense. After wearing it: So far the strongest scent as in it's stayed on me for over 10 hours without losing any of its potency whatsoever. The amber in this is very strong on me and reminds me a bit of Victoria's Secret Amber Romance but not as flowery. I'd classify this as a very warm scent with just a bit of sweetness. If it had a look it would be Butter Pecan ice cream. I can't really smell any of the berry though. I love this though...recommended if you like warm scents and especially if you adore amber.

    Reviews placeholders!

Hello members of the forum! Just wanted to put an apology out there for the lack of being on the ball of putting up review placeholders. WE DUN GOOFED. I'm hoping to have put up all the missing Halloween scents by this evening but I can't promise it. The bulk WILL be posted though so everyone will be able to review before part two goes up and we all go quickly followed by once we realize we can't afford it all The mod team is working on a new system (WE CAN BE TAUGHT!) so that we all have the best forum experience we can. So once again we're sorry for the tardiness of the placeholders, we hope to have them up soon and we thank you for your patience.

Who do I email with questions? BPAL/BPTP contact info

That depends on the blend. If it's mentioned here or on BPAL's blog that it's discontinued then it's poof. They leave it on the site I believe just to show what it was/price/components. The same goes for scents that are temporarily discontinued (like Baghdad right now). Searching through the announcements I don't see a notice that the Little Sparrow is discontinued so it might just be component issues. Kathy (Wickedgoddess) might see this thread too and reply, she's really good at letting people know.
