  1. Hi everyone!

Just a reminder to please be aware of the usage of gifs on the forum. They're super fun (my gif folder is an obscene size, trust) but some forum members might be on slower internet connections and a lot of gifs on the page may hinder their experience! We ask that people not reply to GIF/image posts WITH the image in their reply and if you are using more than 2 gifs as a reply to put the rest behind a spoiler. As always if you have any questions please PM a moderator. Thanks!

  2. Hii everyone!

We know about the redirect issue some are having. It sucks :( We're working on trying to get a fix as quick as possible (who wants to look at boobies when we're trying to find out if the new Doc Constantine is better than the old?!) but in the meantime a couple of things:

    1) If you can, avoid using google to search for a scent. We know the issue mainly comes from that although there HAVE been instances where it's redirected from the forum itself.

    2) If you have any swap/circle transactions on the forum please screenshot them or write the information down. If the forum has to go offline for the fix to be applied (which is a definite possibility) we would have to do it ASAP and don't want the forumites left holding the bag on their swaps. We'll try to give as much of a heads up as possible, however it's best to be a bit proactive in this case.

Thanks again, and sorry about this. We came to read reviews and chew bubblegum and it seems we're a bit out on both at the moment :/

  3. Hello members of the forum!

Just wanted to put an apology out there for the lack of being on the ball of putting up review placeholders.

    WE DUN GOOFED.

I'm hoping to have put up all the missing Halloween scents by this evening but I can't promise it. The bulk WILL be posted though so everyone will be able to review before part two goes up and we all go

once we realize we can't afford it all :(

The mod team is working on a new system (WE CAN BE TAUGHT!) so that we all have the best forum experience we can. So once again we're sorry for the tardiness of the placeholders, we hope to have them up soon and we thank you for your patience.

  4. Ok, this is probably not the right place to ask but I cannot find a more appropriate thread for this question:

When a GC scent says 'sold out' under the description (rather than links to purchase) but it remains on the site, I'm assuming that it means it's not discontinued... but does that mean it will one day come back? For instance, The L.ittle S.parrow. Usually, if a scent is discontinued it is removed from the site... right?

I did email customer service months ago but it's not an urgent query so no answer is not surprising - I'm just curious.

Anyone know what this means? Sorry if I've missed some post on this or explanation on the site but I have trawled for months trying to find something on it.

If this isn't the right place, I beg pardon and please direct me to the right thread! Thanks!! ;)

That depends on the blend. If it's mentioned here or on BPAL's blog that it's discontinued then it's poof. They leave it on the site I believe just to show what it was/price/components. The same goes for scents that are temporarily discontinued (like Baghdad right now).

Searching through the announcements I don't see a notice that the Little Sparrow is discontinued so it might just be component issues. Kathy (Wickedgoddess) might see this thread too and reply, she's really good at letting people know.

  5. Let it be known that I loathe, despise and abominate red musk.

Hygeia? Beautiful. It starts off a bit smelling like Smut actually but then it morphs into a bit like Midnight Kiss with more sweetness. The incense comes out to play a bit later with an earthy undertone, maybe that's the tobacco? Either way it's a very red, very warm scent, perfectly evocative of the picture. I love it.

  6. Does anyone know if one could place an order of a Forum Only scent on behalf of or for someone else? In other words, let's say my partner wanted to buy me a bottle of Halloween: Las Vegas for my birthday next month. Could he put my forum name in the comments? Should he put "birthday present for LizardQueen" instead? Should I just buy it myself as my birthday present to me? Any input/advice would be most welcome!

I think as long as he put "Present for LizardQueen on the forums" it'd be fine but I'm not entirely sure

  7. I am confused by where we can purchase scents becuase of this thread vs. the list on the BPAL website.

Is Nail Polish, Etc. in PA still selling scents?

How about Whole Foods in NC and GA?

If anyone can tell me, thanks!

I travel for work to these places sometimes and would like to know if I can browse there.

Nail Polish ETC and Whole Foods in GA do not sell BPAL anymore. I'm not sure about NC. Sorry :(

  8. Touched Twice is absolutely beautiful. It's a floral that is a bit heady but unfortunately it just doesn't work for me. I've learned that even if there is vanilla or coconut or musk if there's a floral my skin just amps it up something fierce. I get nothing but super florals from it. I'm gutted it doesn't work for me. It actually reminds me a bit of Shroud just with a bit more oomph.

If you ramp up florals and aren't really looking for the rose/vanilla/coconut then give this a try.

  9. I keep sniffing myself.

Most of the time rose scents on a whole just don't work on me. The only exception previously was Psyche, something about her rose hits all the right notes (it may help that I usually wear it with Hades together). Dawn: Mother however is blooming beautiful. The rose is not all up in your face but the frankincense really is what launches this into OMGYES territory. It gives it a rich edge and makes it just downright sexy. Resins normally don't work on me ither but this is just perfect. I'm already predisposed to love this scent considering I love the source material & have Dawn tattooed on me but even if this was called Rick Sanatorum perfume I'd still buy it. If you're iffy on rose scents I'd suggest to give Dawn: Mother a try anyway, the other notes balance it out perfectly.

  10. I have whacky body chemistry because I get absolutely no vanilla in this. Saffron yes, cream yes (and a cream that doesn't go sour on me! Praise Gackt!) but no vanilla whatsoever. I can see where the comparisons to Love's Philosophy come in, it does have that bit of creaminess with "other" but it hasn't gone bad on me the way LP did.

The saffron is really the star player here on me, it's a bit unexpected. It's a fairly strong scent, I keep getting whiffs of it when I turn my head or scratch my nose (who keeps thinking about me today?!) but it's nothing overpowering. It's very sweet but not in the way say Midway is, it's not super cloying.

  11. Recently there has been a mass influx of swapping outside the swaps forum in Retail Therapy. While there is a general announcement you will see in each of the RT forums (they are posted on the top for a reason) I thought a mass announcement could also be served as a reminder as it seems to be spilling into our other sections as well.

THERE IS TO BE NO SWAPS, OFFERS, OR CPs OUTSIDE THE SWAP FORUM!!! .

Examples of swapping outside the swap forum include:

    • I have _____ up for grabs
    • If anyone wants to buy/swap ______ for ______
    • Does anyone have ______ that they would like to swap/sell?
    • If anyone wants me to pick up ______ for them, I'd be happy to do it. <=== second biggest offender.
    • Can someone pick me up _____________ <===biggest offender.
If you're not sure if you want you want to say counts, PM a mod and we'll set you on the straight path. I understand these rules seem to be a bit much but trust us, they make it much more efficient in the long run for you to part with your money and get the goodies you enjoy :)

  12. Powdery snow, glittering softly with the sweetness of memory, juniper, and heliotrope, with a faint hint of cinnamon-sprinkled sugar cookie.

Mmm! Smelling this is sort of like a Thomas Kinkade painting minus the crazy connontations that come with it. At first sniff all I get is the snow, it smells very much like Skadi. Then all of a sudden this crazy sweetness comes in and you get sugar cookies and snow. Kind of like you were walking in a forest, smelling the pine and snow and then all of a sudden the smell of baking cookies hits you. It's very homey and refreshing. I loves it :D

  13. Do your feet feel like they've been cursed? Don't chop them off! Soothe your tired, aching toes with our warming, stimulating scrub!

Red ginger, sweet orange, black pepper, clove, and cardamom.

I'm a bit surprised there's a Talaria scrub review but no De Røde Sko one! I shall remedy that.

First off let's talk about the packaging. The scrub comes housed in a circular jar that is amber coloured. I know Ted mentioned a while ago he wasn't happy with the orginial labels but the label for the scrub is perfect. It's on the top of the jar, orange with black lettering. I'll take a picture if anyone requests. The scrub itself is white flecked with red bits and the consitancy is pretty well..reminds me a bit of oatmeal. It smells like the christmas season. The orange and clove are most prominent but after a bit that ginger kicks and your feet (or any other part you choose to scrub with this, you can definitely use it all over minus your nether regions) smell a bit like orange gingersnaps.

How does it work you ask? WELL. My feet get bruised constantly by all the walking I do and I have a lot of callouses. This scrub not only helped soften them up but it took away and of the dead skin I have...gently. I'm a bit amazed by this because the scrub really doesn't FEEL scrubby if that makes sense but it does a helluva job.

Definitely going to be a staple in the fall/winter months but I think the smell would be a bit much in the summer. This is great ish.

  14. To me this is late summer in a bottle. I decided to give it the ultimate test...I had left some Tuna in my bento bag...in my Tokidoki purse. I forgot about this bento for like...2 days so when I went to switch purses...my bag smelled RIPE. I turned it inside out, gave it 2 spritzes of L'Estate and prayed. While on the subway whenever I opened my purse to get something this lovely golden perfume would lightly waft out. The amber to me was most previlant, lending the scent the overall warmth it has. The Vanilla is sweet but not cloying and the orange lended just a bit of tartness. It was wonderful...a couple of people next to me remarked how nice I smelled. This is GREAT stuff.

  15. To me this scent perfectly captures the essence of Alice in Wonderland. It's basically Rose Red but the rose is not so super prominent as it is in the perfume. It smells like spring. The green grass seems to come out more the longer the smell stays on. As for staying power....it's there. So far it's the strongest of the atmospheric sprays I've found but I still have 3 left to try. What I love best about this is that it's not a cloying rose scent, it's not heady, more subtle so you don't feel like you're choking in flowers.

If you love Rose Red and want your house to smell like it...buy this. If you're longing for Spring...buy this. If you want to have messed up dreams about you being in Wonderland where the Mad Hatter is played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers...buy this too. Tho that last bit may have just happened to me >.>

  16. Amber, cream accord, white honey, apple blossom, skin musk, caramel, and teak.

I feel like Mario from the Super Mario Brothers video games series reviewing this lol. "It's-a me! Belladonnastrap!" Anyway I'm so so thankful to Beth and the Lab for letting me take part in this amazing series. I love you guys! I'm not worthy!

    First Sniff
Like Red Lantern and O got together and did nasty, dirty, NAUGHTY things in the backroom of a honey hive. I keep reading that this smells like one of the Shunga scents (which I never smelled so I can't attest to that) but I suppose it makes sense considering in the picture a guy has been killed right after coitus. My skin chemistry rarely amps caramel until much much later but I do get the lovely skin musk note in O that makes me go "Oooooooooh." I can't smell any apple on me which is odd because next to skin musk and amber, apple is the one note that you can smell on me miles away. It's somewhat foody but yet not. I'm a big fan of gourmand scents that don't leave one smelling like a bakery and this delivers. It's a very sensual smell. Go me!

    Wet
Ah-HA! There is the caramel and apple. Pretty much the same as first sniff but wet the more subtle nuances come out. Make no mistake this IS somewhat foody but it's upscale. The apple prevents the whole scent from becoming just O or Red Lantern 2.0 by giving it a bit of tart and tang to it. No cream accord yet but if it's anything like Loves Philosophy it'll take a couple of hours for the cream to kick in on me. I do want to talk about the honey note though. It doesn't smell like any honey I'm accustomed to. It is honey, make no mistake about that but it's a light almost fruity honey.

    Drydown
BRB HUMPING ARM. No seriously, this is delicious. All the elements mellow into this rich, heady scent that is pretty subtle until you get close and then BAM! All the elements smack you in the face with deliciousness. The cream really comes out to play on the drydown of this , you'd think it would bump it over to ZOMGSWEET catagory but really it enhances everything else. Up to this point I got no teak whatsoever. Zilch, nada. Now I get the teak and wow, it completely elevates the perfume into something else. It's a dark gourmand scent. I suppose I'm a bit biased but I think the perfume perfectly captures the scene and mood of the painting. There's that deep decadent er...sexual aspect of it but there's a definite tang to it. The staying power is pretty darn long, I put it on around 8:00am before I left for work and I (and my co-workers, this ish has some major throw whoa!) could smell it around 2:00pm. It was even remarked that around my desk it smelled like sex, so a word of caution with that ;)

    Aftermath
PLS BE TO BUYING ME KTHXBYE. Let me stop, no this is an amazing scent. I'm thrilled that I was able to be a part of this and I'm ecstatic that I smell so GOOD. Beth always amazes me with her creations but I think with the Carnaval she has completely and utterly outdone herself. If you're a fan of O, Red Lantern and to a lesser degree Honey Moon & Loves Philosophy do give this scent a try. I proudly give this my stamp of approval...which is good since I'm the cover girl :)

  17. First Sniff:

Red Lantern and Snake Oil mixed with something more sugary. I don't want to say Vanilla but maybe caramel vanilla? More then just the caramel in Red Lantern.

    Wet:

Oofta. It's like Sugar Skull with the burntness but there's definitely a musky undertone. It's actually a bit like Perversion but with more sugar and less seediness. It's very gourmand.

    Dry:

Sugar Skull/Red Lantern with musk. Seriously I can't get over how much this is like the aforementioned scents, it really takes the best of both and meshes them together with a pinch of snake oil. The musk is VERY potent on me however, I have to really sniff myself to catch the other notes.

    Aftermath:

Well I like it enough but the musk is just so so strong for me. I don't know if my body amps musk or if that's the actual scent...but try it if you're looking for a version of red lantern with musk!
