    Hygeia

Let it be known that I loathe, despise and abominate red musk. Hygeia? Beautiful. It starts off a bit smelling like Smut actually but then it morphs into a bit like Midnight Kiss with more sweetness. The incense comes out to play a bit later with an earthy undertone, maybe that's the tobacco? Either way it's a very red, very warm scent, perfectly evocative of the picture. I love it.

How do I buy forum-only oils?

I think as long as he put "Present for LizardQueen on the forums" it'd be fine but I'm not entirely sure

    Touched Twice

Touched Twice is absolutely beautiful. It's a floral that is a bit heady but unfortunately it just doesn't work for me. I've learned that even if there is vanilla or coconut or musk if there's a floral my skin just amps it up something fierce. I get nothing but super florals from it. I'm gutted it doesn't work for me. It actually reminds me a bit of Shroud just with a bit more oomph. If you ramp up florals and aren't really looking for the rose/vanilla/coconut then give this a try.

    Dawn: Mother

I keep sniffing myself. Most of the time rose scents on a whole just don't work on me. The only exception previously was Psyche, something about her rose hits all the right notes (it may help that I usually wear it with Hades together). Dawn: Mother however is blooming beautiful. The rose is not all up in your face but the frankincense really is what launches this into OMGYES territory. It gives it a rich edge and makes it just downright sexy. Resins normally don't work on me ither but this is just perfect. I'm already predisposed to love this scent considering I love the source material & have Dawn tattooed on me but even if this was called Rick Sanatorum perfume I'd still buy it. If you're iffy on rose scents I'd suggest to give Dawn: Mother a try anyway, the other notes balance it out perfectly.

    Celeste

I have whacky body chemistry because I get absolutely no vanilla in this. Saffron yes, cream yes (and a cream that doesn't go sour on me! Praise Gackt!) but no vanilla whatsoever. I can see where the comparisons to Love's Philosophy come in, it does have that bit of creaminess with "other" but it hasn't gone bad on me the way LP did. The saffron is really the star player here on me, it's a bit unexpected. It's a fairly strong scent, I keep getting whiffs of it when I turn my head or scratch my nose (who keeps thinking about me today?!) but it's nothing overpowering. It's very sweet but not in the way say Midway is, it's not super cloying.

    Beatrice

"Am I awake? Have I my senses?" said he to himself. "What is this being? Beautiful shall I call her, or inexpressibly terrible?" A scent inspired by Beatrice, Rappaccini's delicate, beautiful, innocent and deadly daughter. A fragile, winsome, poisonous blend of rare, precious and graceful flowers, rich blossoms and spicy perfumes that passes heavily, as a broken heart, across the borders of Time. I've never read the story "Rappaccini's Daughter" (in fact I had never HEARD of it before, shame on me ) before this scent was released so I quickly read it before I tried the perfume so I'd have something to go on. First Sniff: Deep deep roses and spice that make my nostrils flare and my head swim. It's not an unpleasant rose mind you, I do enjoy it but there's more. I detect a hint of vanilla like the one in Antique Lace and Bearded Lady as well as a bit of lily. It's quite lovely. Wet: Ohhhhhh. It's like Antique Lace, Psyche and Shroud got together and had a deadly beautiful daughter. Whatever these "spices" are really come out on my skin. Also I'm not sure if there's any in the recipe but I detect some Lavender as well. Very peculiar, it lends a bit of innocence to the oil. Drydown: I'm getting the same drydown I got with Ligeia actually...mixed with the Shroud & Psyche drydown. There's a very well balanced mishmosh of flowers in this scent and just when I think I got a bead down it changes. Like right now I smell Jasmine. Weird. Aftermath: Beatrice and I need to get to know each other better. I'd stay away from this if you hates the florals (because it is VERY very floral) but if you can stand them but want a bit more "oomph" try this. I'm also hoping I'll have no small purple marks on my wrist when this is done

    Forum update/news for February 2011

Hello, BPAL.ORG! As we mentioned before, one of the things the moderators/admins are trying out is keeping you more informed. A lot of stuff gets discussed in the running of a major forum like this, but you folks don't hear most of that. We'd like to rope you in a bit... hence this blog! We'll be using it to keep you updated, toss out some ideas, and if I (Belladonnastrap) am making the post, at some point I'm gonna rant about something that has absolutely nothing to do with the forum. Why? Because that's how I roll! FORUM UPDATE A GO GO GO! First off, we would all like to say thank you for your patience while (whilst?) we go through a bit of construction. The membership has been really patient with us, and while we understand that all recent changes haven't been met with butterflies & unicorns, we appreciate you sticking around. We're going to do our very best to ensure that bpal.org is a place where we can not only discuss the wonderfulness of the Lab/Post & their works, but our own awesome corner of the web. Sort of like Oh No They Didn't, but smelling better and less obsessed with Britney Spears. Moving to the country, gonna buy me a lotta scrubs. Retail Therapy. We admit that the RT organization did not go completely as planned. We're still working on that. In the meantime, please continue to leave your feedback in this thread, and believe us when we say we're working on it. SKINS! And not the crappy MTV show either! Diana goes much more into depth about this then I ever can, so please check out her announcement for news & where we stand when it comes to making the forum look shiny! Changing of the Guard As Diana previously announced, quantumspice is no longer a member of the admin team. We wish her well. We wanted to take the time to just remind you of the moderators. Admins: ShriekingViolet (aka Diana), Morrig Moderators: Silvertree, Ivyandpeony, Andra, alicia_stardust, Jessica, WickedGoddess, parrot_suspect, Belladonnastrap, emzebel, jenpo, Shollin, Sarah, LiberAmoris, maewitch, Noumenon and Heartbeast Please note: These are all of our active moderators. We have some moderators who are on hiatus, so if you should message them with any sort of forum concern, please be aware that they might take a bit to get back to you and/or forward it to another active mod. Odds & Ends A couple of general reminders to the forum population: 1) Please watch your image sizes! Images are to be no bigger then 480 pixels wide. If you upload an image and it's been scaled down, that means it's too big. Please resize. 2) No swaps outside the swaps forum. This includes "Hey, by the way, I have XX available. If you're interested, PM me!" in any section. If you say "I think this is allowed, but I'm not sure..." chances are it's not. Remember, you can always PM a moderator if you have any posting questions. 3) Please search to make sure your topic hasn't been made into a thread already. We're actually doing well in the dupe topic department, but a reminder never hurts! So that's it for February! We'll try making these monthly, although we don't want to spam you all! In conclusion: Tyler from the Vampire Diaries? You're a tool. Seriously, dude: WTF were you thinking?! I'm gonna be vague because I know that not everyone is caught up, but OOOH. You make me so mad. I've been like all night because of your antics! I hope you get kenneled. NEXT TIME: I swap! You Swap! Everyone Swaps!; Working at the Grindhouse; and Lupercalia: What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?

    Plastic Jack O'lantern Soap

Candy overload. It reminds me a lot of LUSH's Rock Star soap except I don't get the headache after. The soap lathers pretty well and the scent doesn't linger long on my skin. If you're a fan of super sticky sweet stuff this is the soap for you

    De Røde Sko foot scrub

Do your feet feel like they've been cursed? Don't chop them off! Soothe your tired, aching toes with our warming, stimulating scrub! Red ginger, sweet orange, black pepper, clove, and cardamom. I'm a bit surprised there's a Talaria scrub review but no De Røde Sko one! I shall remedy that. First off let's talk about the packaging. The scrub comes housed in a circular jar that is amber coloured. I know Ted mentioned a while ago he wasn't happy with the orginial labels but the label for the scrub is perfect. It's on the top of the jar, orange with black lettering. I'll take a picture if anyone requests. The scrub itself is white flecked with red bits and the consitancy is pretty well..reminds me a bit of oatmeal. It smells like the christmas season. The orange and clove are most prominent but after a bit that ginger kicks and your feet (or any other part you choose to scrub with this, you can definitely use it all over minus your nether regions) smell a bit like orange gingersnaps. How does it work you ask? WELL. My feet get bruised constantly by all the walking I do and I have a lot of callouses. This scrub not only helped soften them up but it took away and of the dead skin I have...gently. I'm a bit amazed by this because the scrub really doesn't FEEL scrubby if that makes sense but it does a helluva job. Definitely going to be a staple in the fall/winter months but I think the smell would be a bit much in the summer. This is great ish.
  14. Recently there has been a mass influx of swapping outside the swaps forum in Retail Therapy. While there is a general announcement you will see in each of the RT forums (they are posted on the top for a reason) I thought a mass announcement could also be served as a reminder as it seems to be spilling into our other sections as well. THERE IS TO BE NO SWAPS, OFFERS, OR CPs OUTSIDE THE SWAP FORUM!!! . Examples of swapping outside the swap forum include: I have _____ up for grabs If anyone wants to buy/swap ______ for ______ Does anyone have ______ that they would like to swap/sell? If anyone wants me to pick up ______ for them, I'd be happy to do it. <=== second biggest offender. Can someone pick me up _____________ <===biggest offender. If you're not sure if you want you want to say counts, PM a mod and we'll set you on the straight path. I understand these rules seem to be a bit much but trust us, they make it much more efficient in the long run for you to part with your money and get the goodies you enjoy

    L'Estate Atmospheric Spray

To me this is late summer in a bottle. I decided to give it the ultimate test...I had left some Tuna in my bento bag...in my Tokidoki purse. I forgot about this bento for like...2 days so when I went to switch purses...my bag smelled RIPE. I turned it inside out, gave it 2 spritzes of L'Estate and prayed. While on the subway whenever I opened my purse to get something this lovely golden perfume would lightly waft out. The amber to me was most previlant, lending the scent the overall warmth it has. The Vanilla is sweet but not cloying and the orange lended just a bit of tartness. It was wonderful...a couple of people next to me remarked how nice I smelled. This is GREAT stuff.

    The Queen's Croquet Ground

To me this scent perfectly captures the essence of Alice in Wonderland. It's basically Rose Red but the rose is not so super prominent as it is in the perfume. It smells like spring. The green grass seems to come out more the longer the smell stays on. As for staying power....it's there. So far it's the strongest of the atmospheric sprays I've found but I still have 3 left to try. What I love best about this is that it's not a cloying rose scent, it's not heady, more subtle so you don't feel like you're choking in flowers. If you love Rose Red and want your house to smell like it...buy this. If you're longing for Spring...buy this. If you want to have messed up dreams about you being in Wonderland where the Mad Hatter is played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers...buy this too. Tho that last bit may have just happened to me >.>

    Springtime scents

Alice and March Hare are pretty springtime to me. Actually I think most of the Alice in Wonderland collection would suffice. Also Victoria and Yvanine

    Sugar Moon 2008

First Sniff: Red Lantern and Snake Oil mixed with something more sugary. I don't want to say Vanilla but maybe caramel vanilla? More then just the caramel in Red Lantern. Wet: Oofta. It's like Sugar Skull with the burntness but there's definitely a musky undertone. It's actually a bit like Perversion but with more sugar and less seediness. It's very gourmand. Dry: Sugar Skull/Red Lantern with musk. Seriously I can't get over how much this is like the aforementioned scents, it really takes the best of both and meshes them together with a pinch of snake oil. The musk is VERY potent on me however, I have to really sniff myself to catch the other notes. Aftermath: Well I like it enough but the musk is just so so strong for me. I don't know if my body amps musk or if that's the actual scent...but try it if you're looking for a version of red lantern with musk!

    On using the forum calendar

Hi Members! Just a note reminding you all to please only use the calendar function for member forum events. This would be things such as Meet-n-Sniffs and the like. Please do not put anything personal as vacations, marriages etc in the calendar. Moderators post their vacations only so everyone knows that one of us is not around and who to go to with questions. Personal announcements should be placed in your blog or personal statement section of your profile. Thanks!

    Marshmallow Poof

For me Marshmallow Poof smells like...soap. Dove soap to be completely honest. At first sniff I can totally and completely smell the sweetness but once I drop it on my skin it just turns into straight up Dove with a slightly creamy base. It's a damn shame because cold sniff it's this beautiful white fluffy cloud :/

    Midnight Kiss

Midnight Kiss is full of notes that hate me. Patchouli, Red Musk & Cocoa. Naturally I expected it to absolutely hate me and I could go along my merry way. WRONG. Oh this is lovely. I don't get any of the dreaded three at all but what I do get (and a lot of) is wine. It actually reminds me a lot of Queen of Spades for some reason. I can definitely make out the patchouli but it's not dirty hippie patchouli but more of a creamier subtle version. I get no cocoa and no red musk at all. It's a very red sort of scent and absolutely fitting with the theme. I'm in LOVE.

    October

October smells like the Autumn Lord. Deep dark woods, a bonfire and a chill of winter in the air. Go to a forest with the sweetest smelling man you can find. Take some dry twigs and light a fire and sit reaaaaaaaaallly close to him. Make sure the day is foggy. Take a deep breath. That's October.

    Banded Sea Snake (2006)

Mmm! First Sniff: Snake Oil drowned in the bottom of the sea. Wet: While orginial Snake Oil doesn't really work for me, the Snake Pit does (well parts of it)! Banded Sea Snake smells more aquatic wet then Snake Oil, although there is just that tinge of Vanilla at first. Dry: Ah there is the snake oil! It's much wetter though (does that make sense?) and the oakmoss really really comes out to play. I must be the only person in the world who loves the smell of Oakmoss. Mayhap it's because I'm a virgo and we dig teh earth? Aftermath: Another solid winner! If Snake Oil on it's own hates you then try the Snake Pit! The combination of Snake Oil + other really changes the dynamic. Banded Sea Snake is an excellent aquatic for those who hate aquatics as the Snake Oil element prevents it from becoming too seaish

    Saw-Scaled Viper

When I tried this, the cinnamon really really amped in my skin and caused a bit of an reaction so I had to wash it off However in the bottle it smells like a spicier snake pit with a bit more headiness.
  25. Belladonnastrap

    Vasakasajja

Oh man, I really really wanted to love this but it turned into a complicated floral that was way too sweet on me It was too fruity floral for me and I got no vanilla whatsoever Definitely try it if you're a fan of fruity florals.
