18 June 1860 is a good metallic with herby-lavender (as opposed to the soft-florally lavender).

Forest & Woods Scents (with and without evergreens)
sqwook replied to omly's topic in Recommendations
For sweet pine scents -- Try Slobbering Pine! Ignore the name if it bugs you, but it may just be what you will like. Also - Jersey Devil. Maybe Jabberwocky after the Eucalyptus burns off. The Illustrated Woman. Golden Priapus. Fascinum. Troll. -
Starts out springy and lovely with the light tea note. Then hours later becomes a gorgeous warm skin-scent which must be rice-milk with the sweetness of spun-sugar almond. Beautiful!

Nebulaphobia!!!! omg, lovely.

Really beautiful!!! Soft ambergris, really gorgeous. (I do not get any off notes as others mention above so ymmv, all just lovely and soft on me. Cade is apparently an evergreen (who knew?), and I don't get that scent either, other than *maybe* a slightest hint while it's still wet on my skin, but, it burns off immediately once it's on me -- for me, this is a soft scent, and the ambergris is just lovely.)

If the lunacy is still available and you want it, then I'd order it now, because the estimated time they stay up is 72hours (3 days) and it's already been longer than that. Good luck!

Similarities Between BPAL Scents - GC and general discussion
sqwook replied to Shollin's topic in Recommendations
Possibly Seance or Danse Macabre - Strangler fig on me is mostly soft woods, after the coconut / fig settles down. -
This is really beautiful. On me, the asphodel is reading as the lab's orange blossom / neroli note (and I compared this to The Sun's Treasure; yep, that's it for sure.). Perfect for representing the sun, over the smoky, slightly spicy myrrh-amber. Does not go powdery, just keeps close to the skin. This is the stand-out for me of the eclipse scents. Gorgeous. I love it. And perfect for a sun-moon conjunction. I didn't have this in hand for the actual ecplise but it's the one I'd have chosen for the big event, too. Solar-lunar goodness.

This is so beautiful! Before trying it, I had thought it might be metallic or harsh and it is NOT, at ALL. It is airy, light, with a light-citrus air to it, and just really like the glimmering light of sun moon and stars, NOT the other notes that bpal often uses to signify those concepts. For me, the dominant image it evokes is the silvery golden glow of sun moon and stars. Air and light and glimmering, and possibly sparkling rain in the sun.

What are some of your faves that you feel smell the most traditional"

This is so pretty, and also so changing!!! When it is more wet, it is so outdoorsy and great, with the brisk juniper-berry and maybe the sage note making it natural, like being in brisk air in a pinyon - juniper biozone, underlaid by a beautiful tinge of sweetness from probably the amber (which could remind you of the vanilla-caramel scent of ponderosa bark if you try hard enough.) I can't really pick out leather, cardamom, or black pepper -- not that they are not there, just that they do not overpower and it is all expertly blended together in a beautfiul way. When it is more dry, it loses its brightness, and all the juniper and sage notes fade to the very background. It is now very soft, not zingy, no juniper. And it's such a complex blend that not one particular thing overpowers. It dries down to almost smell like outdoorsy sweetgrass lingering in the air. !!! It reminds me of something, but, what? Maybe Coyote with amber instead of musk? Or Antony or Titus Andronicus? or Miss Lupescu? Gosh, I think it reminds me of Miss Lupescu, and what a beauty that is. ETA three hours later: And now it's a gorgeous amber spice!

You might try: Bastet Lyonesse Aeval Tamora Hetairae (the drydown) Eden

Non-ritual BPAL similar to the fragrance of TAL White Light?
sqwook replied to Tgz's topic in Recommendations
I have White Light, what do I think it smells like? Possibly like potpourri-spice-cinnamon-rose? It doesn't really smell like that but I can't pin down what it does smell like. Some ideas from other people's reviews: Alice's Evidence Flor De Muerto scents with notes of jasmine, gardenia, and tuberose (I personally do not get jasmine from it at all tho so ymmv. More than one person mentioned gardenia, though! Things with gardenia: Lulu, Pepper, Faiza, ) Venus Caelestis The Ghost Children Pais de la Canela Yule -
Whoa, gorgeous, GORGEOUS. Warm and soft-green. Dry-down is warm oakmoss and amber. This is really beautiful. (Also there is no "wintry" or ice or snow note, if that is something you were wary of.)
-
The Glimmer of the Northern Lights, the Yellow Flowers of the Greenland Summer has one of the snow notes, or at least very winter-y feeling, it feels like a Yule to me, such as Ondurdis, or Ice Prince, or The Snow Maiden, or Yellow Snowballs, or The First Soft Snow, or Cloister Graveyard in the Snow (but no mint in 'Glimmer'!).

Pretty and skin-close, quiet like a wisp of smoke*. On, at first mostly a sweet sandalwood, and then as it dries, mostly fig. I can't pick out the myrrh from the sandalwood but I'm not that familiar with myrrh. I don't detect any cinnamon at all. *to clarify, there's not smoke in the scent, but the scent is quiet and has a mood or atmosphere of something light and floating, like a streamer of incense smoke. But no smoke-smell in the scent. If you like this you may also like: Tushnamatay

This is really stunning on me. Starts out a beautiful apple with true honey and then once it dries it just goes so beautiful, not like bpal's usual honey note, or really like apples either; instead like a beautiful complex warm vanilla. I really like this. Gorgeous.

Forest & Woods Scents (with and without evergreens)
sqwook replied to omly's topic in Recommendations
Which ones have you already tried? Here are some good ones with some pine forest but not winter/ice notes: Jersey Devil, Slobbering Pine, Yggdrasil, Golden Priapus, Black Forest, Nero, Loup Garou (but this has eucalyptus which can make it seem more cold), Thanatopsis, Troll, Dracul. -
I haven't tried these, but I looked up some reviews, and indeed French Love when it is fresh is known for being quite different than aged. Also several people in the review thread for Tombeur report that it smells like Dorian -- you can find those reviews if you pull up the thread then search within the thread for Dorian. Hope that is helpful!

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

You must see if you can find Belle Vinu! They are not the same but you may really love Belle Vinu. Also in a similar warm-golden-fruity feel: Tzadikim Nistarim, Delphi, Loralei, Hermia, Hetairae, Les Bijoux. -
Warm bpal honey touched with cinnamony cassia, simple and warm and nice. On my skin, this is similar to Chimera, but with more cinnamon.
-
Green and fresh when wet. And then *entirely* different when dry on your skin for a few hours: Glorious soft-spice-of-myrrh-hint-of-vanilla. So gorgeous when dry.
-
Sandalwood and fruitiness. The fruits here do remind me of those in Hymn to Proserpine - which makes sense. Very nice.

I haven't tried Tulzscha, but one thing I like to do it do a reverse search - look for mentions of Tulzscha in other recs, reviews, and what people who loved it also liked. Here are some that are mentioned: Squirting Cucumber with layered Tokyo Stomp or Mad Hatter Squirting Cucumber plus Grr Black Ice If you like this, try: Blue Moon, Black Moon, Nuclear Winter Crow Moon Lick It Lick It Again Nuclear Winter Snow-Flakes Pain Mad Hatter Ultraviolet
