Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?
Blood onmy hands replied to Absinthe's topic in Recommendations
Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? There's nothing in the GC that I think smells a lot like Sugar Moon, but you might try: *Florence (Wanderlust) - "The pearl of the Italian Renaissance. Elegant iris, bright berries, gilded amber and velvety spices." Has a similar, sweet fruity-floral feel. Maybe something like Mania, Hollywood Babylon, or Eat Me if you like the sweet fruitiness of Sugar Moon. And you might want to check out The Rose and Roses Pearls & Diamonds in Marchen, or Hope & Faith from the Carnaval, if you liked the sweetened rose-floral part of Sugar Moon. -
This is sort of a perfumey, tropical orchid smell on my skin, slightly soapy. The soap calms down after about a half hour and it's more of a creamy floral, and I can smell the citrus that others have mentions (smells more lemony than lime-like on me, sadly). It's sort of a fresh, tropical, citrus-floral smell with an edge of soap on my skin.

Chaos Theory VI: Recursive Self-Similarity v7
Blood onmy hands replied to Kitrona's topic in Limited Editions
553: This reminds me of Clockwork Couture: Female (the soft vanilla orchid and warm amber qualities) and the vanilla from Love's Philosophy (slightly powdery on me), with a hint of clean metal. It's a very feminine vanilla, in my opinion. I wasn't so sure about this at first, but within five minutes, the vanilla gets much sweeter and this is quite lovely on me. -
PEX32 makes me sick... it's like a combination of tart, artificial fruity smells (like powdery sweet tarts candies) and heavy soap on my skin. The soapiness is a bit sharp and high pitched. I had to scrub this off after about fifteen minutes, because it was giving me a headache.
-
I didn't have much of this to test, and it fades super-fast on my skin, but I got a blast of fakey red cherry syrup that quickly dried down to something like creamy/powdery white sandalwood.
-
I would guess that there's amber and some sort of sharp white floral in this (smells sharp and chemical-y on me, the way that tuberose and iris often do). Sharp white floral perfume and baby powdery amber. It starts off way too sharp, but after about fifteen minutes it has quickly faded into a light, clean baby powder smell on me.

This mostly just smells like some sort of dry cinnamon potpourri (almost dusty and not very pleasant) on my skin. I wish that I could pick out the anise/licorice that other people have mentioned. The spiciness might be pink pepper, because I don't tend to enjoy that note (as it often smells like cinnamon that is slightly off on me).

I love these. SO. MUCH. They're perfect - so strongly scented, amazing fragrance, and leave my skin feeling so soft and happy and fragrant... I even love the look of them with the pink salt mixed with the cream colored salts. So girly. Before I put these into the bath, I thought that they smelled a bit sweeter than the Kitty perfume oil, but I thought that they smelled identical to the perfume oil once they were in the water. Beautiful, sweet, cakey strawberry with fresher notes that keep it from being really sweet and foodie. It's so pretty and relaxing to me. I almost fell asleep in the tub. I used about 1/4 the bag and our bath tub is huge (fits me and my husband with lots of extra room), and the water was silky and there was plenty of scent. An hour later, my skin still smells lightly of Kitty and the bathroom/bedroom area smells delicious. I got my husband to take a bath with me (sorry if that's TMI), as he usually loves bath salts, and he really liked these too. He tasted them when I turned around at one point (o_O) and said, "These taste like salt. Make sure you put that in your review." Big surprise. And afterwards he said, "My skin feels very smooth and soft. Is that normal?"

PRC12 reminds me of the dark, cola-esque resins of Schwarzer Mond, the earthy/patchouli parts of Banshee Beat, and the toasted sandalwood of Dancing Koi. It has a dark and earthy presence that keeps it from being as sweet as all of those blends were on me, making this smell darker and more dry and dangerous. It's very 'don't mess with me' on my skin. I like it.

I have to agree with everyone who said that Morocco v2 smells a lot like TKO. TKO is pretty strong and intense on me anyhow, and this is even heavier and stronger - tons of sugary, vanilla-y sweetness and creamy, herbal lavender with a weird little edge (sour jasmine that dries down a lot like LUSH's Vanillary scent?). My husband said that it smells "heavy and sort of musty." Sometimes this seems a bit too sweet/cloying for me, but I do like it more the longer it sits on my skin, as it starts to smell more like LUSH's Vanillary (sort of creamy, yellowy, vanilla-floral powder). I'd have to be in the mood for a very sweet, strong fragrance to wear this, but I can see myself reaching for this every once in a while.

I opened my bottle of this and put a bit on my wrists, and my husband instantly said, "Wow! That smells amazing. Is there pine in that one?" And that sums up my initial thoughts pretty well too . It's a lot like Plague Doctor v10 (which I loveloveLOVE), but with a cool, sweet, green pine note added in to that cool, watery cologne smell. As it dries down, there's something slightly woodsmoky and spicy-warm that comes through as the watery aspects fade. I still love Plague Doctor v10 more than this or any of the other prototypes, but this one is really nice too. I think I'll give this one to my hubby and we'll sort of match when I wear v10. :]

I think that Box 116 has pineapple in it. In the bottle and for the first half hour on my skin, it has something like a pineapple note that reminds me of Drink Me and Upa Upa (a little sour and off-putting in the bottle, but instantly turns to a sweet pineapple once it's on). I get pineapple and a warm, sugary, caramelized note. It smells like grilled pineapple drizzled in caramel, or pineapple upside down cake <3. Very warm and cozy. As it dries down, it's all caramel/butterscotch sweetness and not much else. I don't smell any chocolate that others have mentioned. I'm really glad that I decided to order a bottle of this, because it's a great foodie-sweet scent.

I just *love* the moth and butterfly labels. I think this year's labels look even better than the ones from last year <3

I love that pic, Suusje and wish I had bought a bottle of Antique Lace back when it was still available, so that I could have a complete Lace family, lol.

I'd recommend The Red Rider (Marchen category - "Red leather, red moss, and balsam"). It's an intense leather blend. Black Rider and White Rider might be good too, though the first is very sweet and resinous on me and The White Rider is more of a gentle, soft leather. The Bow and Crown of Conquest (Sin & Salvation) is a great dark leather and vanilla cologne sort of smell. And since your guy likes leather and Snake Oil, you might want to try Western Diamondback from the Carnaval.

Suggestions Based on Pictures/Images!

Very cool idea that picture made me think of these blends (and I just want to add that you are gorgeous and I love that outfit <3): *Black Opal (Bewitching Brews) - "A play of geological darkness and jagged brilliance. Soft and luminescent with flashes of black fire." *Bon Vivant (Bewitching Brews) - "An effervescent blend of crystalline champagne notes and sweet strawberry." Which I think was more the champagne than the strawberry. *Dorian (Sin & Salvation) - "A Victorian fougere with three pale musks and dark, sugared vanilla tea." *Evening Star (Demon in my View LE) - "A chill, crystalline nocturnal perfume: moonflower with oriental poppy, fairy lily, orris and night gladiolus." *Lyonesse (Wanderlust) - "Golden vanilla and gilded musk, stargazer lily, white sandalwood, grey amber, elemi, orris root, ambergris and sea moss." *Ninon (bptp LE) - "Smoky honey musk, tobacco leaf, lavender, golden amber, Damask rose, hay, orris root, white sandalwood, and bourbon vanilla." *The Rose (Marchen) - "The promise of a rose: red rose petals, fresh sap, and the sharp green scent of stem and leaf." *Roses, Pearls, and Diamonds (Marchen) - "Red roses, dazzling crystalline musks, and pearlescent coconut-tinged orris." *White Rose (bptp LE) - "White rose buds, with vanilla tea, benzoin, orris, coconut meat, and frankincense." Mostly blends that strike me as being classy, cool, and well put together. -
Steam.Goth doesn't really smell like grease, oil, or anything gritty/machine-like to me. My first thought when putting this on was "bay rum!" and I definitely get something sort of dry, spicy, masculine, clove-like and sharp from this. There's a clean, bright sort of metallic scent that mingles with the spiciness as well. After about a half hour, there's just this high-pitched, sharp, clean scent left on my skin. It makes me think of pale gold. It's hard for me to describe, because the scent feels so thin and simple on me. I smell it and think 'clean, sharp' and not much else, if that makes sense. I think that I was hoping for something more like Mechanical Phoenix (which is a darker, almost resinous, metallic-cologne blend that has a lot of depth to it). I like the previous year's Bat's Day/Goth blends a lot more than this year's.

I am majorly heartbroken by Deathrock. I thought that this would be sort of an edgy incense/resin scent, and I lovelovelove benzoin. But this is all sharp hairspray, strange chemicals, and... grass clippings? It reminds me of the cheap, metallic sharpness that I got from Stardust (which might be my least favorite bpal scent ever), which makes me think of high school lockerrooms full of cheap, suffocating hair products. There's a hint of something that's almost fruity-sweet in here as well, but mostly this just makes my stomach turn. I had to scrub this off after about fifteen minutes, because it was starting to give me a headache. Boo I might keep my partial decant of this to see if this ages any better, but I won't need more of this one.

Mary Celeste v4 sounded pretty cool to me, but it winds up being like a lot of scents that I've smelled before and swapped away. It starts off like sharp, salty, slightly soapy aquatic with something dark and smoky, and then dries down to a lightly soapy aquatic and hints of powdery wood. Just doesn't work on me, and fades away entirely within about an hour. Something about it smells more aquatic than wooden on my skin.

I like this blend a lot and wish I'd ordered a bottle (why is it that almost every lunacy I purchase a bottle of smells awful on me, and I enjoy the few that I initially pass up? :/). I wasn't crazy about Worm Moon 08, but Worm Moon '11 doesn't have the sour, high pitched edge and rotting wood smell that 08 has on me. First on, this smells like damp black dirt, perfumey florals (a bit sharp and unrealistic), and a bit of green plant stem. As it dries down, the whole feel of the scent starts to smell dry and better to me - sort of like dusty earth, dry woods, and sweet incense with hints of dark floral perfume. Hopefully I'll be able to get more than a partial decant of this at some point.

I'm surprised that this doesn't have cedar in it, because I get a very dry, peppery, cedar-like woodsiness from this blend. It starts off cedary and also with a very sharp, perfumey note that reminds me of drugstore white floral (not sure which note here is doing that, unless it's bpal's dragon's blood, which sometimes turns floral and blech on me). As it dries down, it's still sharp, peppery, and cedar-esque, but with a little bit of sweetness coming in from the resin and frankincense. Mage makes me think of old, dusty wooden cabinets full of jars of herbs, resins, spices and odd potions, with emphasis on the woods and dust, as this gets dustier/more powdery smelling on me over time. Not my favorite bpal for woods&resins.
-
This scent is sooo odd on me. I get something like green, watery cucumber with smoky, dark, kinda gritty/earthy leather & vetiver. It's like salad mixed with smoky, manly darkness. After about an hour, it has settled into a clean leather smell, but there are leather blends that I like a lot more than this one.

The scent of tea - BPAL's tea note, BPAL blends like your favorite tea
Blood onmy hands replied to sarada's topic in Recommendations
For vanilla sugar mint tea, you might want to try: *Juke Joint (Bewitching Brews) - "A bawdy, gleefully wicked and unruly scent: Kentucky Bourbon, sugar and a sprig of mint." Mostly like vanilla-sugar and mint, with the booze making it more of a beverage type scent. For mint and lavender: *Envy (Sin & Salvation) - "Green herbs slithering through mint, lime and lavender." *Pain (Diabolus) - "Wicked and vicious! A sharp, cruel blend of lavender and pennyroyal." Spa-like: *Cheshire Cat (Mad Tea Party) - "Grapefruit, red currant, dark musk, Roman chamomile, delphinium, and lavender." I get mostly sweet grapefruit and lavender from this. *Kumiho (Diabolus) - "A sharp, biting blend of crisp white tea and ginger." *Mag Mell (Wanderlust) - "The warmth of amber, the puissance of white ginger and the clarity of verbena, with fresh green grass, lush sage and cleansing droplets of summer rain." Ginger: *Shub-Niggurath (A Picnic in Arkham) - "A blend of ritual herbs and dark resins, shot through with three gingers and aphrodisiacal spices." *Sudha Segara (Bewitching Brews) - "Sweet milk and warm, healing ginger with a touch of golden honey and our blend of Ambrosia." -
I think that Fetish.Goth is reminding me a lot of The Black Rider, probably because the opoponax in both amps up on me. Opoponax seems to have this syrupy, cloying sweetness on me, like an insanely sweet myrrh, with hints of something that smells a bit peppery on my skin. I get lots of sweet resin from this scent, that peppery-spiciness, and a little bit of powdery musk in the drydown. I can't really pick out much leather or patchouli at all, sadly. I would love a leather, sweet myrrh, and patchouli blend, but this isn't doing it for me...
