Mrs. Grose isn't working on me at all. I can't stand rose mixed with cinnamon for some reason, and that's mainly what I'm getting here. It's sort of like a sour rosehip tea smell mixed with sweet cinnamon. I prefer Peacock Queen and Pink Snowballs from the Yule roses.

I was hoping for dark rose with sweet myrrh, but the rose here is more sour and chemical/perfumey smelling. I agree with the reviewer who said it smells similar to Elizabeth of Bohemia, which didn't work on me either. I like roses to either smell fresh or very sweet, and this sharper, perfumey variety doesn't smell good to me. I also don't get much of an incense or resin feel from this. As it dries down, it's sour rose perfume and dry wood on my skin. Not a fan of this one.

I agree that this is reminiscent of Jabberwocky and PineSol. I'm not getting any chocolate/cocoa, but lots of sharp, sour pine and bracing mint. The drydown after a half hour turns slightly baby powdery. I prefer smoother pine blends with a darker or sweeter element to them (like Golden Priapus and Yule Cat), so this isn't working for me.

This is a soapy, slightly tart smelling, spring floral. I don't get any of the vanilla/cream aspect. I agree that it's reminiscent of a floral bar soap. Not sweet enough for me, unfortunately, as I love vanilla & floral blends.

Mrs. Palmer's Establishment Atmosphere Spray
Blood onmy hands replied to zombiewench's topic in Atmosphere
Usually I spritz the BPTP sprays on to a throw pillow and they manage to scent the room that they're in, but I can't smell this unless I'm practically hugging the pillow that it's been spritzed on. It doesn't seem to have as much throw for some reason. It also comes off as a really warm, smoky scent to me. I kept thinking that it smelled like cherry pipe tobacco and cigar smoke more than anything patchouli or leathery... not a keeper for me. -
Sweet Lavinia's Dread Puddings is both too sweet and too spicy for me. There's a cinnamon note here that amps up like mad on me, with undertones of something like brown sugar and maple syrup. It's sort of like sugar-drenched pancakes and cinnamon potpourri on my skin. This one is really strong on me and starts to give me a headache after a while (and the cinnamon persists even after I tried to scrub it off several times, lol). I might try out the rest of my decant in an oil warmer, as it seems like it might work better as a room fragrance.

Most of bpal's cherry blends turn into all cherry on me, but I'm not really smelling any fruitiness from this one. It's a milky (slightly sour milk), very buttery smell with a bit of a burnt edge to it. My husband really hated this one and said it smells like butter and spoiled milk :/ I sort of like buttery smells, so this is okay for me, but I don't need more than my partial decant. Milky, buttery, warm scent...

This is a sweet, fruity candy smell (kinda reminds me of sweet tarts or the lab's pomegranate note) with a sharp, soapy undertone. I'm not really into this type of tart, heavy fruit scent or soapy scents, so this isn't working for me. It's reminding me of aged Lovers in a Carp Streamer, so maybe it has some cranberry or red currant to it as well.

I was hoping that this would be a roasted, nutty, vanilla-y, foodie type nougat scent with a bit of creamy lavender. Unfortunately, I get a blast of cloying, cheap cherry almond and then this dries down to mostly herbs. It's really heavy on the thyme, as others have already noted, with a bit of a sharp lavender to it. I don't really find it foodie or sweet at all

For some reason, this goes on smelling like perfumey red rose and lime popsicles to me. Maybe the sweet cherry and lemon verbena are giving me that impression. As it dries down, it smells less limeade to me and more like a mix of fruit flavored hard candies + perfumey rose. Over time, it's more and more of a perfumey rose on my skin, with the sweeter notes fading away. I kind've like Venusian Phoenix, but there's a bit of a sharp, musky, perfumey edge to the rose that I'm not loving. There are a lot of other rose blends that I like more than this one.

I like Solar Phoenix for about the first half hour that it's on. Pineapple notes usually turn sour on my skin, but the pineapple here smells soft, yellowy, and sweetly fruity, with a bit of fuzzy, herbal chamomile rounding it out. I get that nice herby-fruity combo over the dusty, incensey frankincense and powdery heliotrope. It's a pleasant, unusual mix of fruity, herbal and resinous. Unfortunately, it fades a lot after the first half hour on my skin, and I'm left with a faint, powdery incense that disappears rather quickly. I wish it had better staying power on me.

On me, this is really soapy white floral and hints of watery lettuce. Definitely a crisp & clean scent, but way too soapy for me.
-
Jupiterian Phoenix smells just like a freshly cut Christmas tree, in the bottle and on my skin. It's all pine, and I can't smell any of the other listed notes. This smells a lot like Golden Priapus, actually, if you took the vanilla & amber out of GP. It's nice, but I do prefer GP for a slightly more complex, sweeter pine scent. This one is also very light on me, only lasting about an hour and not giving off much throw.
-
Mercurian Phoenix is pretty much lemongrass singlenote to my nose. It's sweet, bright, slightly herbal lemon. It doesn't have a lot of throw and only lasts about an hour on me. This one is pleasant enough, but not something that I'll need more of.

This is an odd scent. I can usually pick out most of the listed notes, but this melts together into a strange, slightly soapy, cloying floral. It sort of reminds me of floral scented fabric softener sheets (where they are, if you smell them up close, a mishmash of sweet, soapy, tart, overwhelming fragrance). Cassia and spice notes are usually overpowering on me, but the cassia here just adds a hint of cinnamon-y warmth in the drydown. For me, Saturnian Phoenix is a bit too soapy, a bit too powdery, and slightly cloying... not something that I can pull off wearing.

In the bottle, this smells mostly like a heavy, floral dragon's blood and black pepper. On my skin, the peppermint comes out in full force and this just smells awful on me . The mix of mint, pepper and dragon's blood here is intensely bitter and medicinal on my skin. Like really bitter cough syrup. As it dries down, something smells like a whiff of body odor (the cumin, I think). I wound up scrubbing this off after about a half hour. Definitely not for me.

Peter Quint sounds like a dream blend for me, but my bottle smells like bay rum and nothing else. I don't get the leather or ambergris at all, which makes me very sad. On me, this is all masculine, spicy bay with sort of a musky, aftershave-esque quality to it. Smells like a very warm, spicy, slightly musky type of men's cologne as it dries down. I don't really like this on its own, but it might be nice for layering with some other scents.
-
I love myrrh, but I'm glad that I just went with a decant of this. I like the myrrh scents that smell sweet, almost dark and syrupy, and this has a high pitched, perfumey quality that smells bright & sour on me, and (as others have mentioned) a powdery edge to it that I really dislike. I prefer a lot of bpal's GC resin/incense blends to this one (Sloth & Cathedral are my go-tos for myrrh & resins lately, Brotoloigos for a LE).
-
Bitter, herbal green that reminds me slightly of Pine-Sol. As it dries down, it has more of a dry wood undertone to it. It's very heavy and lasts a long time on me (even with the small amount I tested), but I don't like the sharp & bitter qualities to it. Green, woody and kinda earthy smelling...

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?
Blood onmy hands replied to Nadirah's topic in Recommendations
Since you like moss and Jazz Funeral, have you tried Zombi? It's in Ars Moriendi: "Dried roses, rose leaf, Spanish moss, oakmoss and deep brown earth." -
I got a frimp of this in a recent bpal/ebay order. First on, it has something like a powdery, honeyed almond feel that reminds me of Dana O'Shee with a whiff of green grass. As it dries down, it quickly loses that green edge and is reminiscent of blends like O and The Lights of Men's Lives. If you were to put this on me and ask me to guess what it was, I would have said it's The Lights of Men's Lives. Side-by-side comparison, this is actually both sweeter and smokier than The Lights, and has a lot more throw and better staying power on me. It smells like beeswax candles, honeyed vanilla, and smoky resins, mainly. Dark, but very sweet.

When I first put this on, I asked my husband if he liked it and he said, "It's okay. Smells like cheap strawberry candy or a cheap strawberry candle oil." Which impressed me, because he can never pick out the notes in anything and I actually didn't think that it smelled like strawberry at first, lol. It starts off smelling like sharp, medicinal lavender to me and then dries down to a sour fruit + something that reminds me of red licorice. After a half hour, I can smell what my husband was smelling in this one... I really wish that this were a more realistic strawberry note, but it has that plastic-y, burning strawberry smell that I get from a lot of cheap strawberry oils that are supposed to be used for soap and candle making. It's more sour than sweet on my skin, though it has an undertone of weird sweetness, and it does have a very cheap, plastic-y oil smell on me, unfortunately . Cheap, soured strawberry oil...

I'm not a fan of bpal's opium scents (the opium note smells like cheap hairpray and sharp, white smoke on me) and I kinda like the bamboo, but it always turns a bit too soapy on me. It's like wet, pulpy greenery mashed up and mixed into dryer sheets. So that combo is very high-pitched and soapy to my nose. I was curious about the white sand, blue musk, oudh and myrrh, but the opium & bamboo part is too strong for me to really pick out the other notes...
-
I expected this to be a heavy rose & resins blend, but it's mostly a faint, soapy lily and hints of dusty, dry frankincense on my skin. It dries down with more of a sour, perfumey rose scent, but is still pretty light on me. It's mostly a light, perfumey, slightly soapy floral.

My decant of this is definitely strong on the jasmine, and it's the sour, dirty, perfumey sort of jasmine that I don't care for. As it dries down, it's sour jasmine with a background of something that smells like PineSol to me. I was hoping for a mix of fruity & earthy, but this is sharp, sour floral on me.
