To His Mistress Going to Bed

Pencil shavings, woody fig and womething like burning, rubbery pencil erasers (like when you use a pencil eraser really vigorously). The caramelized part of the caramelized patchouli is sickly sweet and starts to remind me of caramel flavored chewing tobacco. Intensely sweet, caramel flavored chewing tobacco with the burning, sour overtone of used pencil erasers and some pencil shavings... too sweet and just weird, burnt, and strangely soured on my skin.

    Kertasníkir

This is just as advertised on my skin - a waxy honey and strawberry hard candy smell. Together, the beeswax and strawberry candy kind of remind me of strawberry flavored chapstick.

    Þvörusleikir

I'm not a big fan of herbal blends. This one is inoffensive, but still not for me. Kind of a savory, lemony rosemary type of smell over dry wood. Very light and fades quickly on my skin.

    The Bear Prince

On me, The Bear Prince is a soft, dewy rose and fuzzy, snuggly, warm vanilla musk type of scent. After an hour, there's a slightly soapy, clean, dryer sheet type smell underneath that sweet rose musk, that I'm guessing is the snow coming through. Overall, it's light and pretty on my skin, lasting about six hours before it starts disappearing entirely. I like this well enough, but there are vanilla & rose scents that I enjoy more (that are creamier and sweeter than this one).

    Little Lady Macbeth

I don't get any cake from this blend. I get lots of sharp, bright, slightly sour red currant and a drizzle of honey that turns a little powdery in the drydown. It's very fruity.

    Battle Fairy in Training

Goes on like super-sweet strawberry hard candies and, after 45 minutes or so, has settled into a sweet strawberry with a plasticy, powdery edge to it that reminds me of scented dolls. I'd never get through a whole bottle of this, but I'll keep my decant for when I want something fun and childish (childish in a good way).

    Lucan’s Phoenix

Sweet, herbal lemon. I don't smell any incense. It's a happy, energizing, light fragrance. Lucan's Phoenix is simple and pleasant enough. I don't need a bottle, but I'll probably hold on to my decant.

    Philostratus’ Phoenix

Musky lemon, powdery amber, and a soft, spicy incense. I probably wouldn't wear this one again (not a big fan of lemon, musk or powder), but it does smell warm, sunny & golden, and it isn't unpleasant at all.

    Walking the Prime Meridian

Walking the Prime Meridian turns intensely soapy and dry smelling on my skin. Sort of like salt and floral scented dryer sheets.

Blood and Judgment So Well Commeddled

A scent of kindness and devotion, friendship and loyalty: soft brown leather and brushed suede with bourbon vanilla, toasted almond, tonka bean, and amber. The almond kills this scent for me. It's like a sickly-sweet cherry cough syrup smell. A little bit of powdery amber comes in during the drydown, but I can't really smell the leather at all.

Give Me Thy Breath, My Sister

Herbal greenery and sharp mint with a sweet, powdery, honey pollen sort of undertone.

    Meus Amor Aeternus

I expected this to be a super-sweet Snake Oil, but it's actually rather sharp and powdery on my skin. I don't smell any cotton candy or vanilla. Powdery Snake Oil, a sharp muskiness that I find in the newer versions of Dorian, honey and a spiciness that I'm guessing is coming from the carnation. It's jumbled and strange on me, but I'm one of the people who doesn't even really like regular Snake Oil (no matter how long it's been aged).

    A Vast Similitude Interlocks All

This kind of has a generic men's cologne feel. Watery, cool, almost musky and sharp. Isn't turning to straightup soap on my skin, though.
  14. Blood onmy hands

    Ghost Revelry

Mostly a sweet, powdery floral mix of sandalwood, orris, lilac, and moonflower. Very light and doesn't last long on my skin. The drydown has a soapiness to it. Reminds me of Staged Moon Landing, but not as strong, and with a soapy edge.
  15. Blood onmy hands

    Palmyra

Palmyra is a light, powdery sandalwood and amber with a little sweetness from the other resins. Drydown is all powdery sandalwood with not much throw on my skin. Only lasted a couple hours.

    Skyrgámur

I agree with the reviewer that said this was reminiscent of Bath & Body Works' Sun-Ripened Raspberry. It's a sweet, musky-ish-clean, fruity, bright berry fragrance. It's kind of creamy in the drydown on my skin, but more like a creamy lotion smell than a yogurt or vanilla cream. A little too fresh and fruity for me.

    Bjúgnakrækir

Bpal's pear note is usually too sweet and candy-like for me (perhaps the only pear I really love is in Slumberhouse's Pear & Olive blend), but I was hoping that the leather and castoreum would make it dirtier and darker smelling. I can't pick out any leather or castoreum (which usually smells leathery to me itself) here, though. I get lots of realistic honey, super-sweet and slightly powdery smelling pear candy, and a sweet, suntan lotiony coconut. The combination winds up being way too sweet on my skin.

    Stúfur

I have trouble wearing spice notes in perfume oils. The spice amps up and I usually wind up smelling like a cheap holiday spice candle. Unfortunately, that's what happens with Stufur. Sharp spices and sugar with a waxy, plasticy undertone to them.
  19. Blood onmy hands

    Askasleikir

This one is too much cinnamon for me, and the chocolate has a dry, baby powdery undertone to it. Lasted about three hours on me and was mostly spice.

    Between Your Heart And Mine

I wanted rich, heavy, full bodied red rose and dark woods from this (perhaps something like Pulcinella & Teresina), but this is watery, intensely powdery, green smelling rose... but mostly it really smells like baby powder on my skin. Drydown is weirdly like burning plastic (something very sharp, chemical and burning about it) and baby powder with a hint of sour rosewater. After an hour, this reminds me of flea and tick powder for dogs. Chalky and baby powdery with a cloying, nondescript sweetness and something of a sharp citrus twang. I found myself wanting to scrub this off every time that I tried to wear it.

    Single Note: Clown White

Goes on like sickly-sweet cherry drink syrup and cherry flavored cough medicine. Dries down to a plasticy cherry hard candy and waxy cherry chapstick. It's cheap, artificial and cloying on my skin. I don't get any vanilla from it.

    The Snow at Midnight

I bought a full bottle of this unsniffed, because I absolutely love black currant and myrrh, especially when mixed together. I don't get any fruit or resins from this scent, though. None at all. And the 'frozen/snow' note isn't as gentle, sweet or slushy as it usually is. In this blend, it's dry, sharp, and soapy - like huffing dryer sheets. It's like a really bad, aggressive, sharp, dry, high pitched, soapy ozone single note...

    Isidore’s Phoenix

I want to love this, but it starts off very rough on my skin, and I'm not sure that I even really like the drydown. In the bottle and on me at first, Isidore is sharp and chemical, like hairspray and nailpolish remover. It slowly starts to calm down and goes through a soapy, strange phase that makes me think of dust covered white bars of soap, fruity shampoo, and waxy lipstick with a little cinnamon. It's soapy, dusty, waxy, with sour, tart plum... It's definitely not what I was hoping for when I read the note list and ordered my bottle. The floral is sharp and perfumey, not at all a sweet violet. The plum is more tart and sour than sweet for the first hour. Something goes very soapy and chemical. It doesn't really start sweetening up or settling in for about fifty minutes on me, and then it still has that strange, waxy undertone and something that smells like cheap cinnamon potpourri on my skin. I can't really smell the myrrh, amber or benzoin, and the floral part doesn't really remind me of violet. It's just strange. After the one hour mark, I'm left with a strong, sweet, tart plum and something almost peppery, with sharp, soapy, white floral and undertones of wax and powder.

    Clement I’s Phoenix

The note list for this is simple and perfectly accurate. It's exactly what I was hoping for - a creamy, golden, thickly sweet frankincense and myrrh combo. The frankincense takes on an almost lemony brightness in the drydown that makes me think of a sweet lemon curd dessert all soaked in caramel and resins. Almost vanilla-like. Rich, sweet resins at their best. This is exactly how I like my frankincense and myrrh blends - uncomplicated and so sweet & smooth that they're almost a gourmand fragrance. Clement I and Aelian's Phoenix are hoard-worthy for me.

    Aelian’s Phoenix

I love Aelian's Phoenix. I've had trouble with most of bpal's chocolate scents going plasticy, waxy, or chemical scented markers smelling on me lately, but this is like milk chocolate truffles dusted in cocoa powder. Decadent, true cocoa sweetened with creamy vanilla. The resins and pepper add this lovely, exotic warmth to the sweetness, and it kind of reminds me of a cocoa-drenched Priala. Cocoa, frankincense, vanilla, amber and pepper are the most noticeable notes on my skin, and this smells so delicious, creamy and sexy. ETA: I loved this when I first got it, but I got rid of all of my bottles recently, because they didn't age well at all for me. A year later, this smells like melting wax, baby oil and a faint smoke, like snuffing out a candle. Dries down like baby oil and melting plastic. This is why you shouldn't hoard the bpals.
