    Amsterdam

This scent isn't really amazing me. I had to apply quite a bit of it, as it is a very light scent. It smells of light flowers, green grasses, and dew. But it also has an odd smell of rotting vegetation on me. Like I'm standing next to a compost bin. I do like that it manages to smell like wet flowers, but the underlying rotting note is majorly turning me off. A half hour later, the rotten note is gone and I have a light watery floral blend. It's good, but it doesn't feel at all like me. I feel like an imposter in someone else's perfume, lol. This only lasted about 3 hours on me. It did develop into a green floral and the lovely wet smell stayed with it strongly. It's just... not me... so I'll probably swap away my imp.

    Jester

This smells very sweet and juicy in the vial, good enough to eat. For about the first hour that I'm wearing this, it smells like a fruity bubblegum. Like Juicy Fruit, perhaps, but with more of a berry/plum twist to it. Then I forgot that I was wearing the fragrance and absentmindedly sniffed my wrist, "Mmm... Midwinter's Eve." Then I caught myself and remembered that no, I was not wearing Midwinter's Eve. But Jester definitely turns into that familiar candied sugarplum sweetness on me. But where Midwinter's Eve has a wet frosty quality to it, Jester has more of a powdery dry candy scent. Still, they both smell sugar plummy on me. I like Midwinter's Eve more than Jester, but I do really like both of them. I was thankful that Jester never smelled of strawberry on me

    Cinnamon girl...

"All Night Long" smelled exactly like red hots cinnamon candies on me... which, I think, smells rather like Big Red gum.

    Temple of Dreams

This... doesn't smell too great. When I first apply it, it smells like a light herbal note mixed with vix vaporub. Then I get a strong burst of lavendar for a while. Then it smells like a hint of lavendar and some light bathroom cleanser. None of the Somnium scents are keepers for me.

    Jack

The scent of warm, glowing jack o’lanterns on a warm autumn night: true Halloween pumpkin, spiced with nutmeg, glowing peach and murky clove. I used to love Jack, back when I was first getting into BPAL... but then I really slathered it on one day, and it made me ill. I think that I like it more as a room scent. On me... it's like spice cake, cream cheese frosting, and way too much butter. Normally I love buttery scents (I adore Shill, for example), but this is a sickeningly sweet/spicy butter. I like this as a tiny dab on my wrist, and it's awesome as a room scent in the oil burner... but it makes me sick if I apply very much at all. It feels more like a good candle scent than a good perfume.

    Blood Countess

Blood Countess isn't the worst fragrance that I've ever smelled, it isn't even that bad... but it isn't really special either. I would choose to wear several hundred different BPAL scents before getting around to this one. Hell, I would choose to wear several hundred commercial/department store brands before getting around to this one. For the first 15-20 minutes on my skin, this is pretty unbearable. It is the scent of thick perfumey roses - the kind that give me instant headaches. Then it switches into something very very light, I can smell the berries if I hold my wrist up to my nose, but they are covered in a bitter perfumey scent still. After about an hour and a half, it's all gone. I can't smell any hint of fragrance at all on my wrists. Overall, a quick and pretty unsatisfying experience was the Blood Countess.

    Envy

I HATE mint, so I was so sure that Envy would make me sick. But the mint is so well blended and light that I don't even notice it. This smells so green and herbal and wonderful. It reminds me of dandelions. When you're pulling weeds in the yard and you get dandelion sap on your hands... that's what Envy smells like. This is my next 5 ml purchase, definitely.

    Lust

This scent is subtle and clings close to my skin, which surprises me since red musk, patchouli, and myrrh are usually strong and intense on me. Ylang ylang usually smells yellow-y, sweet, and a bit metallic on my skin, but it's reminding me of honeysuckle here (warm, yellow-y, sweet floral with a perfumey edge). The patchouli is just a dry, earthy hint to the blend, and the red musk and myrrh combine to fashion a heated, resinous, musky base for the floral-y ylang ylang. As it dries down, Lust is a little too perfumey & sharp for me. Still, I like the sweetness and edge of resins, earth & warmth that it has. I probably would love this a lot if it didn't have the ylang ylang and it was lighter on the musk.

    Egg Nog

Next to Midwinter's Eve, this is my favorite LE. It smells so good that I want to drink it straight out of the bottle. Confession: I have never tasted or smelled actual egg nog before . That said, this is a wonderful creamy eggy vanilla scent with a dash of spicy nutmeg (thankfully I don't get any booziness - I hate booziness). It is a very warming fragrance and it's very light. It only smells strongly for about 2 hours before it fades into a light barely there scent. And even the 2 strong hours are pretty subtle. This is my favorite scent to wear when I'm spending an afternoon cuddling with my significant other. It's subtle and sweet, perfect for when you have someone cuddling with you and nuzzling your neck

    Bewitched

This is another one of those BPAL blends that I thought I would absolutely love, only to find out that it is very 'eh' on me. Unfortunately, this is all musk on me rather than berries. It has a sort of throat closing perfumey quality. I get about 5 minutes where it smells like blue raspberry popsicles, then it's all musk after that. Strangely, this blend didn't last very long on me either. After about a half hour I was sniffing my wrist and trying in vain to detect any lingering remnant of the oil. I don't like this fake/bitter perfume note that dominates from this blend, sorry to say. I'll definitely be sticking with Glasgow as my signature berry scent, it smells more like true berries mixed with sweet floral and green to me

    Vixen

Orange blossom why do you hate me so?? I love ginger and I love patchouli... but orange blossom always turns into something rancid and smoky on my skin. A sort of burning green wood scent, where the smoke makes my nose tingle. It's bad. I can't smell any ginger at all and the patchouli mixed with the orange blossom is a bad combo on me (though I normally love patchouli if it is by itself or paired with something sweeter). Thus, vixen just smells like something strange and burnt on my skin

    Centzon Totochtin

I love Centzon Totochtin... and it, thankfully, loves my skin. This is the most perfect scent. So luxurious and elegant and decadent. It feels and smells rich and expensive. Liquid pleasure in a bottle. It makes me dizzy with happiness I was worried after reading reviews that this would smell like coffee (I never want to smell like coffee) or be too boozy. I don't get any coffee from this at all (yay!) and the rum/wine is more like rich berries or plums than it is alcohol. And the cocoa... *dies*. It is so warm and spicy. This is rich dark cocoa. It is very chocolatey, but somehow manages to not be overly sweet or foodie. And the rich cocoa dances with the rum and deep red wine to build the most wonderful scent that I've ever worn. This is my sophisticated scent with an evil side. I feel like it should be wearing a fur coat (with nothing underneath) and a diamond necklace. Yes yes.

    Midwinter's Eve

Midwinter's Eve is the best LE blend that I've tried. I love the candy sweet scent of sugar plums. And this is sugar plums, only better. Somehow this scent manages to smell very wet, like plums so full and ripe that they've burst open and are dripping juice. But it also has a very frosty quality, like those same plums are sitting outside in the snow with a layer of frosty chill covering them. These are plums that hang out in the happy world of Santa's Christmas Workshop. Picking up sweetness and magic and rolling in the snow with the elves. (No, I haven't slept in days, why do you ask?) The scent never changes on me, just stays all plummy sweetness and winter wonderlands... but it only lasts a little over 3 hours on my skin before I have to reapply. I'll definitely buy several full size bottles of this whenever I get the chance.

    #20 Love Oil

Voodoo blends seem to really hate my skin. The only one that I can seem to stomach is Follow Me Boy (which I really like and which drives my boyfriend crazy - in a good way). #20 Love Oil... I've hesitated in reviewing this because it was just so awful, and I feel bad saying awful things about anything BPAL. I didn't get any rose from this (no floral at all actually), I didn't get any almond notes, and it didn't smell green or soapy clean. This did smell like dirty chemicals on me though. I kept making my mother smell me... she decided it smelled like a blend of, "Gasoline, insecticide, and sweaty old men." :icon_eek: But I toughed it out for about 2 hours (I'm such a trooper)... until the drydown stage started to smell a bit like feces. Needless to say, I won't be buying a full size of this'n and I won't be testing it out around the boy.

    Voodoo

Voodoo has more notes in it than I usually go for in my perfume oils, but it smells sooo good and I love the change that it goes through on my skin. For the first few minutes after application it smells like a delicious tangy cherry limeade slushie. Then the vanilla, pine, patchouli, and clove come out and dominate, mixing together into something amazing. It's spicy, it's sweet, yet it smells like a dark forest. All at the same time. After about 3 hours, I am getting mostly vanilla, patchouli, and pine... and lord is that wonderful. A vanilla drenched forest. I'm so in love with this...

    Sudha Segara

Oh, happiness . Sudha Segara is such a wonderful and beautiful scent. Light creamy milky notes mixed with the sweet spice of ginger. That is all I get from this - no soap or citrus in there to mess it up. Just creamy sweet spicy goodness. It is very light, I have to reapply about every 3 hours... but wow... it's just so good... I want to eat it.

    Blood Kiss

This smelled sour and off to me when I first got into bpal, but I've grown to really like wine scents and have learned that some scents need to age a bit before slathering. This is dark, plush red wine that's sweetened with cherry (but not turned sickly sweet from the cherry), with bits of dark, sultry spiciness from the clove and hint of vetiver. It smells dark and aggressively sexy to me lately, which I like a lot when I'm in a certain mood and this is one that I find gets better (less sour, more sweet & smooth) with some aging.

    Veil

In the bottle and on my skin at first, this is mostly violet. Very sweet, slightly powdery violet. It keeps making me think of bubblegum, if there were a violet flavored gum (and I suppose that there probably is a violet flavored gum out there somewhere, lol). As it dries down, the gardenia adds a creamy, tropical floral edge to the violet candy and something pops up with a clean edge that doesn't quite go soapy on me. Veil feels like a little girl's super-sweet violet perfume, trying to grow up into something more heady, grounded, and clean edged. It also has that dark, moody feel that I usually get from violet scents. Soo... dark and moody little girl all grown up? I have to say, I would be very intrigued by a girl who was wearing this, if I were to sit down next to her. It's floral, but not perfumey or drugstore floral. It's a unique and interesting floral with a mix of sweet, clean, and heady/rich notes.

    Viola

All that I'm getting from this is sharp bitter rose. I either love or hate rose (love it when it is a dark wet rose like in Whip, hate it when it is a high pitched whining rose like in Viola). This is a floral that I find to be very headache inducing. Too much bitter rose, and it just gets stronger and more overpowering the longer that it is on my skin. I'll definitely be swapping my imps of Viola.

    O

I've gotten two different version of this over the years. One version is a very dark, reddish brown oil and the other is a light, almost clear, pale yellow. Obviously very different. The dark red/brown oil smells deeper, darker and more amber-y and kinda makes me think of a dark chocolate truffle with honeyed cream oozing from the center. It's warm and rich with a warm, amber-y undertone that actually doesn't turn to baby powder on me like almost all of bpal's ambers do. The pale/clear/yellow-y version smells like a cool honey musk. As it dries down, it actually smells like a floral wildflower honey. I've been getting this clear version more often lately with lab frimps, so I wonder if this is another scent that got randomly reformulated without notice...

    Black Pearl

This reminds me of going on a Disney cruise for my 15th birthday (happy times <3). It's like creamy coconut scented sun tan lotion, ocean breezes, sand, and - most importantly - a hint of nonalcoholic pina coladas. It is a sort of light scent on me, but very long lasting and definitely not so light that I don't catch hints of it at random points throughout the day. Black Pearl is sweet, creamy, and refreshing on me. A perfect summer scent. Very tropical-vacation-lovely

    Hemlock

For about a half hour on my skin, hemlock smells exactly like burning dried sage leaves. But I decided to wait out that bad smell in the hopes that it would change into something wonderful. It doesn't. Oddly, it morphs into a weird bubblegum scent on me. You know those long powdery strips of bubble tape that you get in those plastic tape measurer containers? That is exactly what hemlock smells like on me - powdery bubblegum with an extra dusting of baby powder. No thanks.

    Hellcat

When my father was alive, he would often drive me into town and take me to breakfast at this place called The Walnut Bowl. It was an oldstyle restaurant in our old little town. The structure itself was made out of all wood logs and planks, like a log cabin... and you could smell that sort of sugary wooden smell. Then insert the smells of buttery pancakes and maple syrup... and you not only have what The Walnut Bowl smelled like, but also what Hellcat smells like on me. Pure old-fashioned pancake house. I don't really want to smell like a pancake house... but I have used up several imps of this just because it reminds me of better times with my father. Thankyou BPAL...

    Megaera

Fruity scents usually smell very youthful to me, reminding me of something that a young energetic girl would wear (especially if they have grapefruit). So I expected this to have that young/juvenile feel to it. But this is fruity all grown up. It is so well balanced. Like a sophisticated older lady's perfume, but with energizing grapefruit and plum slathered over it. The result is rather elegant and sexy, and I can pick out all of the notes as they swirl around each other. It's not one of my all time favorites (I have trouble loving fruity blends so it seems)... but I like it. A lot.

    Akuma

This is a very boring and fake/synthetic smell to me. It is very sweet and fruity, but something about it bothered me. Then it hit me, this smells exactly like Bath & Body Works' sun-ripened raspberry fragrance. That same sickly sweet candied raspberry that always made me gag. Nothing like a real tart raspberry smell. My sister loved this and agreed that it smelled like her favorite B&BW lotion.
