I don't know why, but Ultraviolet immediately jumped into my head. It's tech-y, and kind of industrial and cool, and I think it would be perfect for Devo.

I received this in a swap, and when I first did the usual stick my nose way into the imp thing, I drew back really quickly! I expected a discordant, confused scent but I always like to give new things a chance, so I applied it to my wrists and neck. The first impression continued to intensify and even though I usually adore woody, incensy scents, this one just made me kind of sick. This is fairly new for me; I love some BPAL and am a bit indifferent about just a few, but this one is so NOT me. It continues to intensify and it makes me smell like I haven't taken a shower in days. Funny chemistry, because I liked a lot of the notes in this! It was worth a try, but I'll be swapping this one away as soon as I can! Ah- different strokes for different folks!

An imp I received from a friend introduced me to this veritable ocean in a bottle. I am SO sad that I did not order a bottle when I had the chance. This conjures up images of a cool, windy day, maybe in the Scottish isles with the breeze in my face and occasionally getting a mist of water on me. It is just perfect salty ocean. I smell no florals in this, just the salt and a touch of ozone. This is perfect, just perfect.

I received this as a gift imp from a friend and I am so glad she sent it! It is chilly, icy, but not overpowering. It reminds me of walking in the cold just before the first snowflake starts to fall. It has that feeling about it. I like Frost Moon and it likes me! From this I get a mintiness, very subtle eucalyptus and a light aura of florals- is that the lotus? The scent is quite consistent on me from application to drydown and it has a long last on my skin. This is just beautiful. I love cold scents and this is a great one.

R'lyeh is beautiful, but I must have the weird chemistry that doesn't get grapefruit from this. I am glad for this post because I love grapefruit, too. I saw on the news that a study was performed and that men who smelled the scent of grapefruit on women guessed that the women were approximately 6 years younger than their real age. Now, I KNOW I have to get me some grapefruit!

Wow! This is a nice, cold imp I will pull out on those really hot days. The eucalyptus and pine serve to keep me refreshed and awake. I even feel more energetic when I have it on. Imagine that The orange is subtle but makes its presence more known as this dries down. A beautiful, refreshing scent, this one is.

To me, this is a small, lonely rosebush by the saltwater marshes. The rose is very faint and the smell of salt comes to the foreground. I feel like I'm standing at the edge of a tidal pool when it's cool and gray with a stiff wind blowing. This is a very cool, fresh scent and thankfully, although it has that funereal feel to it, it does not evoke sadness to me. This is beautiful and crystalline and I enjoy it very much.

It's not what I expected- and that's sometimes a good thing! I expected COLD mint; instead I got a warm, summery mint that you'd put into an icy cold drink to keep you cool. It's not biting but soft with a lovely, just so slightly powdery drydown. I like it very much and I am glad I got the imp. I am not sure it is a big bottle buy, but it is right on for a spring/summer scent. It is clean IMO; a very pretty blending.

A real, honest to goodness Mint Julep in an imp! This is just exceptional. It's 95 today, and I live in the south, and I could think of no better fragrance to apply than Juke Joint It makes me wish I had a veranda (I do have a porch, though!) and it is a soft, benign bourbon and mint smell. It's not sharp, not too alcohol-y, but mellow; just like a good bourbon! This is a great summer scent and I don't even like summer all that much Great job on this one!

Funny stuff... First in the bottle sniff: Ugh- this may be a swap, it's too thick and sweet. Wet on skin: OOOH! A good oooh! Wow, this stuff smells like Christmas I am merrily baking cookies, have some butter cookies cooling, a nice cup of hot chocolate next to me, the snow is falling. Wait- it's still July! A nice if momentary diversion. Dry: AAh, a nice soothing sweet mellow layer of sugar has decided to land on my skin and stay there. (or is it snow?) You know, I love this stuff! I have to conserve my imp or hope I can acquire more because this is going to be worn DAILY from Thanksgiving through New Year's. Great job, Beth & lab!

While I always appreciate a gift imp, I am not sure yet that this one won't be passed on to gift someone else with. It is clean smelling, but I notice no eucalyptis, and DO notice a very sharp lemon (here's another Pledge person) and soap smell. The soap is intensifying and becoming a very old, fragile soapy elderly lady smell. Although it smells fresh, alas it is giving me a bit of a headache. This is one of the few BPAL scents that I will pass on. Glad I tried it though!

Oh my...this imp is a first for me, in the sense that while the fragrance of Magdalene is just overwhelmingly beautiful, this is the first imp of many I have tried that seems to change my mood. It makes me reflective, and it brings wistful, almost sorrowful feelings to the surface. I don't know if it's the rose or the orchid, but since I've had it on today I have been thinking a lot about my mother, whom I lost in March and miss terribly. It is funereal in it's own manner. Maybe because her favorite Biblical woman was Mary Magdalene, and I admire her too. This scent just conjures up loss, wistfulness and if it could make a sound it would be a sigh. This is a perfect scent for when I want to be reflective and inside myself. I am stunned that this Magdalene has that effect on me, but there you have it. Emotionally, it is very powerful.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet- I meant to! My feelings keep changing about R'lyeh. I get NO grapefruit from it. Odd, I know, because everyone else does. I get a salt water tang, not terribly strong, and the incense notes as well. Upon application, it is a sharp, hit your nose, in your face aquatic, but it dries down very quickly and becomes a faint ocean on my wrist. Today I love it, but one day a week or so ago I wondered what had originally attracted me to it because the scent was different somehow. It changes a LOT! This is complex and multi layered. For the most part, I am so glad I got this imp.

Must. Get. More. I received this from dear jj_j as a gift, and this is probably my favorite imp of all she has sent, maybe in my top 3 BPAL faves even. I did not read the lab's description before I tried it (I like to surprise myself) and I could swear that I smelled my much loved violet in here. I get a faint, but sharp touch of the lime, but on me the berries don't come across as berrylike, just a hint of sweetness. This is a perfectly blended, drop dead gorgeous fragrance and yes, I do get the reminiscent feel of Dior's Poison- but this makes Poison pale in comparison. Definitely, this will be a 10 ml bottle and will have a permanent place in my repertoire. Lovely!

Either my nose is off, or I actually am getting something quite different from the other reviews here. First whiff on my skin smells like a green/brown mixture. Almost a resin-y, grassy scent. I notice no rose, a bit of light wildflowers with a little herb- maybe sage? This is an interesting scent, and it morphs on me into something a lot stronger than when I initially applied it. It's not a must have for me, but I am glad I tried it and it will have a place in my repertoire for when I want something different. Thanks jj_j, for the imp!

Oooh! This is gorgeous! On me, it smells like toffeed, caramel almonds, honey and vanilla. The fragrance is quite linear throughout and it has a good last on me. It is light, and while a lot of people said it might be a good summery scent, I would like it best in the cold winter. It is a very comforting, friendly scent. This is one that I will purchase a big bottle of!

Fresh cut rose perfection in a bottle! Oh my, it really is beyond perfect I also get the very green in-the-bottle first sniff, but when applied to my skin, it's almost as though someone just delivered a thousand roses to me. It is a pure, dew laden rose at the height of it's bloom. I have to say that this is my fave rose BPAL scent so far, and I am fortunate enough to have received an imp from dear jj_j. I sincerely hope that it returns someday- it is astounding.

I love Empyreal Mist, but it only loves me for a quick moment, then disappears! I get a faint whiff of bitter tea (but it's lovely), berry (maybe blackberry?) and a bit of aquatics. A small soapy note creeps in, and by the time Empyreal Mist dries, it's almost gone. It's delicate and fresh, but so delicate that it leaves me too quickly. I may try this on very well moisturized skin to see if it lasts longer. It's such a clean smell, that it's worth trying.

Ah! What a wonderful blend- it is very seductive. It is not a scent for the timid; it makes its presence known. To my nose, it is almost all rose- I have to really search for the leather note, but it is there. This is not a delicate rose, but a vivid, grown up rose for wanton ladies. Another beautiful rose from BPAL.

Absolutely one of the most gorgeous rose scents ever! I got a free imp from a dear friend and I am ever grateful. It is light, airy, clean and cool all at the same time. It is a perfect scent for when I want to feel "clean"- girly and young. Not a heavy, sexy scent IMHO. Another winner from the lab.

Thanks to the lovely jj_j, I got an imp of this and have been wearing it all day attempting to figure it out! Amazing the difference BPAL scents have on the whole lot of us- we are SO different. I get no mandarin or grapefruit and definitely it is a "warm" feel to me. This Queen is a motherly cuddly type, not foreboding at all. I do get the florals lightly and perhaps a bit of the rose and the drydown is powdery and almost spicy. I would not have minded a chilly scent as they are my favorite, but still, this Queen of Diamonds does not feel haughty to me, just soothing and comforting. I wish I could get more! A very intriguing scent and an excellent blend as per usual.

Oh, how lovely! This is a scent I never would have picked for myself, but boy, it is exquisite. I cannot detect the tea in it, but an explosion of light, airy florals hits my nose and keeps wafting around beautifully. It has amazing staying power and throw. It is a great hot day scent. I am glad I got this present and I may just acquire more!

Another imp I received from my adoptive Mom! I think the scent of this is so unique and beautiful, but my skin, even when well moisturized, just eats it up. Sad... Before it fades though, I get a woodsy, old, lichen-y, mossy sensation. The pepper is extremely faint, but noticeable. It mellows to a dark and cool walk in the woods before fading. Sigh- I just wish it lingered before it left. Beautiful fragrance though!

I was lucky to receive a decanted imp of this, and it is amazing. Beth has done her usual job of making complex, luscious wonderfulness in a bottle! To me, this fragrance just smells "green"- very green. After it has dried down a bit, I get a touch of violet, a bit of woods, but mostly that green foresty feel. It is a great unisex scent; my husband and I both have it on tonight. Another wonderful production from the lab.

How beautiful, how pure. I received an imp of this from a good friend and I will be always grateful. To me, it is a light, clear aquatic, but I swear there is a teeny bit of lemon in it. It has some light florals, but I mostly notice the watery feel and it's almost as though someone threw flower petals on the ocean. That's what it reminds me of.
