  1. I definitely agree with the comparison to Haunted at first sniff. I love black musk and this scent does not disappoint. I'm one who usually cannot do vetiver, but it works in this blend. Darkens the scent a little more without making me smell like the fire pits of Hell. Myrrh and tobacco notes soften and sweeten the scent just enough and the sage seems to balance everything together.

Though I won't likely purchase a bottle, I do want to keep this decant.

  2. Clove and tobacco are top notes on my skin right after application. As it dries, I pick up the redwood, hemp, peach blossom (though very light) and black currant notes. Not getting any red musk out of this one. I think I will definitely keep my decant, though I probably don't need a full bottle.

  3. 2011:

This one is a bit more milky than my 2009 version is. Where in 2009 I got a little more rose than vanilla, in the 2011, it's more milky vanilla with just a little rose. I just got a decant of the 2011 version, since I still have nearly a full bottle of the 2009 and I'm happy with that decision since for my tastes, 2009 is better on me.

  4. This is divine on my skin. Very soft, feminine. It's this lovely blend of soft sandalwood, frankincense, pale rose, and orange blossom, sweetened with berry. I told myself I wasn't going to purchase anymore Yules, but I think I might need a bottle of this.

  5. “You are in the wrong,” replied the fiend; “and instead of threatening, I am content to reason with you. I am malicious because I am miserable. Am I not shunned and hated by all mankind? You, my creator, would tear me to pieces and triumph; remember that, and tell me why I should pity man more than he pities me? You would not call it murder if you could precipitate me into one of those ice-rifts and destroy my frame, the work of your own hands. Shall I respect man when he condemns me? Let him live with me in the interchange of kindness, and instead of injury I would bestow every benefit upon him with tears of gratitude at his acceptance. But that cannot be; the human senses are insurmountable barriers to our union. Yet mine shall not be the submission of abject slavery. I will revenge my injuries; if I cannot inspire love, I will cause fear, and chiefly towards you my archenemy, because my creator, do I swear inextinguishable hatred. Have a care; I will work at your destruction, nor finish until I desolate your heart, so that you shall curse the hour of your birth.”

Inextinguishable hatred: red ginger and black opoponax with black pepper, stinging neroli, myrrh, and tobacco absolute.

Very sharp in bottle and right after application on skin. The ginger settles down a bit after a few minutes and sweetens just slightly with the myrrh and tobacco notes. I'm not sure what I was expecting with this scent, but it smells quite unique on my skin.

  6. In a corner formed by two houses, of which one advanced more than the other, she seated herself down and cowered together. Her little feet she had drawn close up to her, but she grew colder and colder, and to go home she did not venture, for she had not sold any matches and could not bring a farthing of money: from her father she would certainly get blows, and at home it was cold too, for above her she had only the roof, through which the wind whistled, even though the largest cracks were stopped up with straw and rags.

Peppermint, spearmint, white musk, and elemi settling into a deepening darkness.

Lots of mint and soft musk, which helps soften the scent a little. Lovely, but is similar to several other BPAL winter/snow scents that are mint-heavy.

  7. Sniffing the bottle, this was all honey. 100% honey and I was a bit worried, but applying it on my skin was a much different experience. On me, there is definitely honey, but the orange zest and bourbon vanilla are right there to make this scent go wonderful on my skin. I'm not sure what linden blossom smells like, but I'm not really getting any floral from it. I think this one will age beautifully.
