I feel badly because this scent is just awful on me. It smells to me like the devil's licorice whips and it gives me a headache. I can't figure out if it's the musk or the anise but regretfully this is one that I have to wash off asap. First time that's happened.

Your Best-Bet "Must Try" Enabling Scents
opheliaslily replied to magpiedee's topic in Recommendations
My top ten: Dorian: I have never met a person, man or woman, who didn't love Dorian. It simply is that good, beautifully blended, and completely magnetic. Snake Oil: Ditto. Grand Guignol: I've had people stop me to ask me what I was wearing. Hungry Ghost Moon: One of my most favorite moons ever. Alice Suitable for almost everyone without adoubt. Lucy's Kiss: my favorite rose scent from Bpal. The Apothecary: There's something very light and refreshing about this scent. Mouse's Long and Sad Tale: Sweet and delicious and lingering. Cockaigne: The spice cake scent is enticing. Morocco: Delectable for both men and women. I have a big list of honorable mentions but those are the ones that matter most to me so far. I have high hopes for some of the Winter scents. -
There's no way I can describe how good this is in a way that makes sense. I seriously would be happy bathing in this. It's that good. To me it's sophisticated and flirty but not haughty. It's putting on a dress that you've always felt a little shy about wearing then finding out that all of a sudden it's as if it were made for you. It's so confident but a little sweet, rich and...tangy somehow. I'm hunting down another bottle. Must have more. .

This one is...it really makes me feel happy. Is it supposed to do that? There's a funny note to it that makes me think of hops, you know the stuff that goes in beer? But it's not fermented and sour, just sort of ...like grass clippings. It's also sweeter than I expected and man, I just really like it on me. Sorry I can't give a better review but, I was honestly caught by surprise with it.

Honestly, I hardly know where to start with this one. It's almost nothing like I expected it to be (other than expecting to be happy that I was able to order a bottle). To me, it smells like very expensive unisex cologne in the bottle. I can't really pick out notes although the pine/woodiness of it makes me think of more masculine fragrances. My chemistry is such that frequently these unisex scents work great for me so I wasn't unhappy with that feeling. There's a real richness to this even in the bottle, it proclaims loud and clear that this isn't any storebought, alcohol laden concoction, thank you very much. Wet. Still getting the expensive unisex vibe with a bit of somethng sweeter. I've had lotus fragrances smell like juicy fruit gum but this is not one of those. It's luxury in a bottle. Dry. Everything warms and continues to get richer and richer. It never goes too far into woodiness but the same sort of comforting "sheltered warmth" feeling that you get in the summer under pine trees is in here plus so much more. This one's simply an exquisite example of Beth's art. Now I've got to to track down another bottle if at all possible.

The most hippie / hippy scent you have tried?
opheliaslily replied to MrsSoup67's topic in Recommendations
Perhaps it's the sage that reminds me of patchouli though they are quite different usually. However, reviewers seemed to be evenly divided between a sage/musk interpretation (a few people said occult bookshop) and those who get only the floral sweet pea effect. Here's the review topic if anyone's interested. Snake Oil remains my favorite of those mentioned so far. *g* -

o.o; odd...I don't smell patchouli at all in Aeval! At least...I don't think I do...<.<;;; *can never be sure, really* It does to me and I gave it to someon else who thought so too. But, things smell different to different people. -

Aeval has a deep patchouli essence. *g* -
I'm ever so glad that I ordered an imp of this in my last order then. I think that Snake Oil has a sandalwood scent but if it's old enough, it's mellowed by the lovely vanilla into something dreamy. In fact, I go straight to the vanilla sandalwood any time that's one of the scent choices now. It's so warm and sweet and...strengthening somehow. I am woman hear me roar or something. I get something lovely and sweet and spicy from Grand Guignol as it dries down as well.

My skin has a tendency to amp up the jasmine like crazy and this was no exception. Pretty soon I had to wash it off because it was overpowering and almost sickeningly jasmine and nothing but jasmine. *cough* Good thing others like it. *g*

I could positively cry over this one. I love roses and I had high hopes for it. In the imp: a frosty but very rich red rose smell. There's something green behind it like the fern and baby's breath that you often get with roses when you buy them at the florist. Wet: Pretty much the same. My nose wants to stay stuck to my wrist and just inhale the rich rose scent. Dry: I never seem to get to dry. I've tried it twice now and both times, the scent just fades away. It's two hours later and there's nothing left. Woe and alack. I wanted to love this but unless I reapply every two seconds it won't work. Maybe a scent locket would help. Will investigate.

Floral Recs for those who usually don't like florals
opheliaslily replied to Neko's topic in Recommendations
I really like The Apothecary, I've discovered. It's very clean smelling to me and then becomes the softest floral sort of thing. But still clean and soft. I also like White Rabbit, Alice (some people don't get along with the her though in terms of chemistry), Dorian and possibly Seraglio (if you can get past the cherry almond when it first goes on)
