Origin - imp, fresh from the lab. Wet - cocoa! Dry - I can already tell this is another yummy one. It's cocoa but it's a spiced cocoa. As it dries the patchouli and incense blend with the cocoa to produce something delicious. I get a whiff of leather too, but it's quite subtle at first. As time goes on the leather becomes more pronounced but the light touch of floral prevents this from becoming too masculine. This is Velvet's sexy older brother. This one puts off a moderate amount of throw, but it's never overpowering. I like this a lot, but will have to try it a few more times before I decide whether I need a big bottle of it. It's certainly a contender. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    Aeval

Origin - imp received in a swap. Wet - this smells green, lightly floral and slightly spicy. Dry - this starts out as a light scent on me, but it gets stronger as time passes. The tonka comes out, along with the musk, to give this fae scent some depth. Still very green and floral and even though it's a light scent, it lasts a decent amount of time and has a moderate amount of throw. The longer I wear this though, the less I like it. It's just a bit too floral for me. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3.

    Blood Pearl

Origin - imp, fresh from the lab. Wet - primarily orris. Dry - still primarily orris. This is very powdery on my skin, and both the coconut and musk seem to be hiding. This goes from powdery orris to pure baby powder, which granted, isn't a huge leap. I keep waiting for my beloved coconut to come out and play. but it never makes an appearance. I thought I liked orris, but this is so powdery and strong, that I fear it may be like amber; something I like but cannot wear. Off to the swap pile with this one. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 1.

    Lustration

Lemon cough drops. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 2 on scent. Since it's a purifcation oil, I really didn't test this for efficacy.

    Dunwich

Origin - a decant from a lovely forumite Wet - a lemony aquatic. Dry - I smell the lillies now, and ozone as well. The lemony note disappears completely on dry-down, and it truly becomes a marsh full of bog lilies. There's quite a bit of throw on me…I can literally feel this floating under my nose, even though my wrists are busy elsewhere. In fact this is so strong, it's beginning to make my eyes water. As is the case with both Whippoorwill and Miskatonic Universite, this is brilliant in terms of creating an environment. I'm glad I got to try this, but I'm not a big fan of aquatics and it's becoming obvious that this doesn't like me at all. Off to the swap pile. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 2.

    Baku

This is the fifth and final Dream Formula that I have tried, and I must say, I love them all. However they are all too close to buy all of them; one should suit my needs just fine. The more I try, the harder it becomes to choose just one. Preconceived Notions - I tried this just to be a completest, based on the reviews I really wasn't expecting to like this one. Wet - lavendar and eucalyptus. This one clears my sinuses and opens up my crown chakra. As it dries I get anise and a touch of mint. Surprisingly, this one slightly edges out Oneiroi for my favorite of the Dream Formulas, although I would love bottles of both of them. I already have a big bottle of this one the way! On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 5. Edited for clarity

    Somnus

This is the third Dream Formula I have tried and they all appear to share the common notes of lavendar and something not particularly pleasant, that I am not familiar with. This is very similar to Oneiroi, but wheras that was strongly jasmine, this is a different floral mix. I think there is a bit of jasmine here too, but mixed with other white florals. It's sweeter and lighter than Oneiroi. As for efficacy, I slept sounder and longer than usual with both this an Oneiroi. If I had to pick between the two, I like Oneiroi better, but both of these are excellent blends in term of efficacy and scent. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3.

    Nanshe

This is the fourth Dream Formula I have tried and it too shares the common notes of lavendar and something I can't name. This one is overwhelmingly lemongrass. This is quite nice and once again, I slept more soundly, and with very vivid dreams. So far I have loved all of the Somnium blends, but I am only going to buy one or two of them and this one won't make the cut. I will definitely hang on to the imp though. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    Oneiroi

Created to invoke the ancient Greek deities of dreams. On the shores of the ocean, somewhere in the West, they dwell behind their gates of horn and ivory. Soporific, dark and unfathomable: a somnambular blend of deep lavender, white sandalwood, jasmine, bergamot and mugwort. Origin - imp received in a swap Wet - ah, lovely lavender, and something deeper that's not particularly pleasant, but I recognize the note as being in Temple of Dreams also. As it dries I get just a touch of sandalwood, and the sweetness of jasmine. Then the jasmine really comes out and overwhelms everything else. When I was a little girl, I had a night-blooming jasmine under my bedroom window, and I loved it when the nights got warm enough that I could sleep with the window open, breathing it in all night long. So far I adore all of the somnium blends, and am looking forward to trying the others. Now that I have tried all of the Somniums, this is my second favorite, and I do plan on buying a bottle of it. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    Moxie

Origin - decant from a lovely forumite Wet - orange peel & grapefruit. Dry - this remains primarily orange peel, but a bit of spiciness creeps in as well. Even though I dislike grapefruit, I find this is absolutely delicious, and it's not the least bit sweet. I really love the smell of this and feel energized while wearing it. There's not a lot of throw here, but that's just fine. This is going on my big bottle list. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    The Hesperides

Origin - imp received in a swap Hmm..both in the bottle and wet, this is not what I was expecting. To me, it smells more of candied apples than the real thing. As it dries I get a delicious woody scent, the oak bark, and finally some ozoney twilight mist. I was hoping this would be a catalog substitute for my beloved Mabon, but it's a different kind of apple entirely. The oak bark almost makes it worth buying, but not quite. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3.

    Jack

Origin - imp, fresh from the lab Oh yum! Wet - this smells buttery. Wow this a delicious scent, buttery pumpkins with a pinch of spice. As it dries the buttery note fades a bit, and it's all pumpkin and peach. This is a wonderful scent, but one I would primarily wear in the autumn. As the Fall approaches, I will probably pick up a big bottle, but I do already have quite a few Fall scents to choose from. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    Athens

Origin - imp, fresh from the lab. Another winner! Wet - myrrh and honey. Dry - a bit of wine pokes through. This smells wonderful, although it does seem rather similar to Cairo. But thenn this dries down to a wonderful spicy honey with wine, and it blows Cairo away. This goes on my big bottle list. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 5.

    Centzon Totochtin

Origin - imp, fresh from the lab This smells exactly like it's description; cocoa, red wine and blood. I didn't get much rum, but that just may be difficult to distinguish from the wine. This is what I expected Dia De Los Muertos to smell like, and was disappointed when none of these notes showed up. Dry, it stays true, and is relatively long-lasting on me. I like this, but I don't love it, and it's probably not something I would wear often enough to warrant a bottle purchase. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3.

    Chiroptera

Wet - this smells very green and herbal. Dry - I don't know what evening primrose, night-scented stock or moonflower smell like, but I can smell the honeysuckle. As it dries, the green herbal smells becomes lighter, sweeter. It's honeysuckle sweet and very nice. This is another light floral, and while I like it more than I thought I would, I really don't need another light floral. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3.

    Zombi

Wow! This just knocks my socks off. To me, this is the loveliest rose of all. Whereas Rose Red didn't work for me, this is just gorgeous. Roses and dirt; it smells just like my garden. The roses are rich and true and the dirt smell is subtle but grounding. This is dark, rich, fresh-turned earth, fertile and full of earthworms. But the rose is always front and center. My only complaint is that this is another scent that doesn't last too long on me. By the two hour mark it's only a memory. While I don't plan on getting a big bottle of this right now, I would consider it down the road. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best, this rates a 4.

    Shub-Niggurath

Oh. My. God. Best scent ever! I am a huge fan of Gingerbread Poppet, but it's too foody for everyday use. But this…this is incredible. Whereas Gingerbread Poppet is sweet and foody and innocent; the scent of baking cookies, this one is sexy and dark and twisted. It smells so similiar to GP and yet it's so different. Whoever described this as "evil gingersnaps" really nailed it. I recognize cardamom and am trying to figure out if there is myrrh or patchouli in this when it hits me, I know what this is. It's a cross between Gingerbread Poppet and Sin!! Now my only question is whether I need to order a third bottle before the 1st. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this is off the charts!! But in the efforts of fairness, I will rate it a 5.

    Wilde

Origin - imp received in a swap. I wanted to try this because it sounded so herbal. I love all of the ingredients: lavendar, thyme, jasmine, patchouli, bergamot and tonka. But one whiff out of the bottle and it was all over. In the bottle this smells like department store perfume, the kind I am allergic to. This is the first BPAL I couldn't even bring myself to try on my skin; I just could tell I would hate it. I guess I had better stay away from the "masculine" blends, because so far I have had a similiar reaction to all of them. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 1.

    Jolly Roger

Origin - tested at Black Broom. I keep seeing this Skull and Crossbones bottle at the Black Broom, and it's so cute that I have to try it. Ah, it's Jolly Roger! Jolly Roger is another one of those amazing scents. I put it on and am immediately transported to the ocean. Sea spray…that's exactly what it smells like! And if I sniff really hard, I can smell the wood of the ship. The rum adds a little spiciness, but it's barely there; this is all about the ocean. I like this one a lot, it's masculine and yet something I would feel comfortable wearing, particularly on a summer day. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3. Edited - because I put the wrong review here. Duh!

    The Ides of March 2005

Origin - decanted imp bought off of eBay. Preconceived notions - This sounded good to be because I love rosemary, but when I took a sniff at Black Broom it really didn't do anything for me. Still, I wanted to try it. Wet - it's very sharp and astringent, not particularly pleasant. Dry - lemony and herbal. I am definitely getting rosemary, bergamont and lemon. This smells fresh and clean, and although it's a tad masculine, it doesn't smell cologney like Wilde and Viacomte de Valmont. I like this, but it's another that I probably wouldn't wear. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3.

    Miskatonic University

Origin - an imp decanted by a lovely forumite This smells exactly like I expected it to smell. Sweet, irish coffee and dusty books. This is amazing! The scent stays true once it dries and it lasts a very long time. I really like this a lot, but I honestly can't see myself wearing it. I will keep the imp for novelty and fun, but it's not something I need a big bottle of. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3

    Hexennacht (2005, 2016)

Origin - an imp decanted by a lovely forumite. This is Samhain with a forest scent instead of pumpkins and apples. It smells of trees and smoke and incense. This is beautiful, and really doesn't change much from wet to dry. After a few hours, it begins to smell of cocomut! Hmm…that was unexpected. This is an incredible fragrance, definitely one of my favorites, and it lasts a very long time. A big bottle is a must! On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 5

    Wolf Moon 2004

Both wet and dry I get a soft aquatic, with foresty notes. When I wear this I feel like I am standing next to a mountain stream in the dead of winter. Cool water, pine trees and a crisp breeze. After a few hours I notice the same buttery note I got from Harvest Moon. On me this is very soft, not much throw at all. This is lovely, but probably not something I would wear often. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3.

    Perversion

Origin - imp received in a swap. A night out in the clubs. This scent seems to come in waves. Wet, I get tobacco, with just a touch of chardonnay. As it dries the chardonnay takes over and the leather shows up in the background. Then it's mostly leather and rum. The chardonnay comes back, antd then. about two hours later, I finally get a whiff of the tonka. This is a lovely scent, and it appears to be long-lasting, but it's probably not something I would wear too often. I will definitely enjoy the imp, but I doubt I will pick up a big bottle. Revised - funny how your tastes change. First time I tried this it did nothing for me, second time it was fair, and third time, well, third time's the charm! This is boozy and gorgeous and I am raising it to a 4, because I am pretty sure I will be picking up a bottle of this soon. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4

    Temple of Dreams

Origin - Imp received in a swap Oh wow. Wet, I get lavendar, rosemary and just a touch of lemon, although it may be verbena, because it doesn't amp up the way lemon does on my skin. There also seens to be a hint of something spicy once this all fades away, I want to say myrrh, but I don't think that's what it is. This is the perfect herbal scent, and it manages to be both relaxing and refreshing at the same time. I want to just sit around sniffing my wrist all night long. Unfortunately this fades very quickly on my skin, and I have to keep reapplying. I don't care, even fading quickly, I will buy a big bottle, probably a 10ml. I love this! On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4. ETA - Changing the rating a bit, now that I have tried all of the other Somnium blends.
