    Red Phoenix

Wet - the first note out of the bottle is cinnamon, which of course isn't really cinnamon at all, but cassia. Behind that is something slightly dusty smelling. I'm at a loss as to what that would be. Dry - I have been chalking that dusty note up to rose, because I get it in a lot of rose blends, but this is the same note, so I am going to have to revisit what does and doesn't work on me. I fear it may be the tonka, because this smells very similiar to the way the Love in the Asylum smelled on me, and ultimately I had to give it up. I so dearly wanted this to work on me; I LOVE red musk and cassia and patchouli and benzoin...it should have been perfect. But lo, the red musk isn't coming out to play, and all I am getting now is cinnamon and dust. I guess I am still searching for that perfect red musk blend.... On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 2 .

    Talvikuu

A forest covered in snow and ice. Beautiful. Of all the snow scents I have tried this Yule, this is the loveliest. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4 .

    Snow Bunny

Wet - Pine! Pine and snow and something sweet underneath. Yep, just like the description. Dry - The sweet get's sweeter, almost bubblegummy, but it's primarily pine and snow. A very wintery scent. It puts out a moderate amount of throw, but doesn't last terribly long on me. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3 .

    Sugar Cookie

I don't know why I never tried the old version, because I do love sweet foody scents. I think that there was a fear, based on some of the reviews, that this would turn to plastic on my skin the way that Egg Nog and Midway did. Wet - Butter! Not the delicious, buttery note of Jack and Grog though, it's richer, almost sickenly so. I don't think this is going to work on me. Dry - plastic! butter and plastic. Yep, this is what I was afraid of. So glad I didn't buy a bottle. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 2 .

    Dreamland

Wet - tuberose! Dry - I am not sure what specific notes I am getting, but this is a beautiful floral scent. Tuberose is front and center, but there are other flowers now. This smells like walking through a mysterious garden at night. Lovely, but probably not something I would wear enough to warrant a bottle. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3 .

    Al-Araaf

Wet - a lovely honeyed lily scent. Simply gorgeous. Dry - soft honeyed lilies; perhaps a bit too soft. Once dry I can barely smell this. I do like this scent, but it's a bit too light on my skin. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3 .

    Gingerbread Poppet

Gingerbread Poppet 2005 I wasn't planning on ordering this, because I still have a bottle of last year's version, and while I love it, one bottle is enough. But this sounds like it might be different enough that I have to try it too. Wet - very different from last year's verion! If last year's was light gingerbread, this is dark and heavy. I smell primarily ginger and molasses, maybe a touch of brown sugar too. Dry - this is much darker and less foody than last year's version. It's also not as spicy. I will end up keeping both bottles, because they are so very different from each other. 2004 is very foody, a perfect gingerbread scent. 2005 almost seems like a mix between Sugar Skull and Penny Dreadful, with some spices thrown in. It's a heavier scent, but it doesn't last very long on my skin. Both versions are delicious! On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4. (for comparison sake, I gave the 2004 version a 5.)

What do bottles and labels look like?

I got a new digital camera for Christmas too, so I thought I would post this label for all of you.

    Aries

Wet - I have a red ginger single note, and that's exactly what I smell here. Mmm…ginger! Dry - as it dries it softens, and some frankincense comes out. Not much, just a touch. This is nice and I like it, but it's not something I would go crazy trying to get a bottle of. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    Beaver Moon 2005

Traditionally, Beaver Moon is named thus for a very obvious reason: during this time of year, beavers are hard at work building their dams and preparing for the onset of winter. Because it was too hard to resist, BPAL’s Beaver Moon is sillier, sleazier, and full of camp. This scent is of cheesecake and cupcakes, more in line with its cheekier connotations, and really hasn’t a damn thing to do with Luna at all! In the bottle this smells of cheesecake and I am delighted. But once it dries, I get this sour note that reminds me of rancid butter. I would have loved this if it weren't for my chemistry. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 2.

    Hearth

2005 Version Sometimes I read a description and fall in love with a scent, only to be disappointed with the real thing. Sometimes I am sure I will dislike a scent, only to be pleasantly surprised. And then, there are those times when I fall in love with a description and the scent is just as good, or maybe even better, than I imagined. That happened with this year's Harvest Moon, and it has happened again with Hearth. Wet - "Chestnuts roastiing on an open fire.." Oh yes, warm, buttery chestnuts. I am loving this! Dry - I thought this couldn't get any better. I was wrong. Chestnuts covered in brown sugar, sweet and just the tiniest bit spicy. A little smoke. The ultimate foody scent. This is a holiday classic! On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 5.

    Stardust

Wet - I love the description of this, as this truly captures my own misspent youth. While I truly appreciate the artistry that went into creating this scent, but I no longer want to walk around smelling like Aqua Net Ultra Super Hold. Well, there is the champagne too. Champagne and hairspray. Dry - the champagne is coming on a little stronger now; this smells effervescent! As time goes by the hairspray fades and this is all about champagne and ylang ylang. I don't ordinarily like ylang ylang, but this is different. It's a white, clean and yet decadent scent, the flip side of Perversion and Formula 54. You know, I think I like this! On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    The Cracked Bell

Wet - spicy incense, soft and pretty. Dry - and then it turns to baby powder on me. I tried this at last month's will call and loved it, so I am not sure if it's a time of the month thing or what. But once dry, all I get is baby powder. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 2.

    Midnight Mass

Wet - in the bottle this smells strongly of cedar, and I am a bit worried, but as soon as it touches my skin it is pure incense. Frankinsense, myrrh and yes, cedar, but just a small amount, to give balance not to overwhelm. This is exactly what I expected Cathedral to smell like, but with Cathedral the cedar amped up too much on my skin, and that doesn't seem to be happening here. Dry - this doesn't really change much, it stays a soft incensey scent. The throw is moderate, it's neither too strong nor too light, it's just right. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    Yuletide

2005 Version Wet - dead-on pine; I smell like a Christmas tree! Dry - the pine fades faster than I would like, and leaves behind a spicy, cinnamon and clove potpourri. It's not a strong spice like Three Witches, it's very soft, and while I miss the pine, I still think this is the ultimate Christmas scent. I like Hearth better overall, but this is what I have been wearing to all of my Christmas parties, and I will be wearing it Christmas day as well. It's the smell of Christmas in a bottle. My only complaint is that it fades much too quickly on my skin. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    Snow Moon

I've never tested Ice Queen so I can't compare this to that, but wet this smells cold, with a bit of eucalyptus, and some soft berries. Dry - as it dries, it becomes woody. Not pine, possibly birch? It's a soft wood scent, barely there. This is very pretty and I like it, but I doubt I would wear it, as I am just not much of a cold scent person. It's absolutely lovely though. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3.

What do bottles and labels look like?

Actually, Le Fee Verte (and I am assuming Hellion as well) has a gorgeous custom label. I wish I could post it, but I don't have a digitial camera (and my film camera is currently on the disabled list.)

    Black Hellebore

Wet - green and peony. Dry - a indistinct soft, greenish floral. Not much to say about this, except it's another floral that's not for me. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 2.

    Cabaret

Wet - hello wisteria! I expected the red musk to be the dominate note here, and I can smell it, but the wisteria is sweetening it up to the point that it's nearly unrecognizable. Dry - I was really expecting to love this, as I love red musk and jasmine, but this is all wisteria, with just a tiny bit of red musk in the background. I get a bit of jasmine, but it's faint. Reading the reviews, I think that whichever floral you like the least it what you smell the strongest. I like jasmine and don't get much of it at all. Sadly, this is too floral for me, and the sexuality of the red musk never manages to overcome the flowers. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 2.

    Jacob's Ladder

First a caveat. With the exception of Snake Charmer, amber scents as a rule, don't work on me, in fact, they have a tendancy to turn to baby powder on my skin. I still wanted to give Jacob's Ladder a chance though, because it has the potential to be gorgeous. Wet - a very light amber scent and something else, benzoin perhaps? It's a light, creamy spiciness mixed in with the amber. Dry - this is absolute perfection; a light, sweet amber scent. The only problem is that it is so very faint that I must put nose to wrist and sniff deeply, but I don't know if that is because amber doesn't usually agree with my chemistry. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    Nuclear Winter

This is cold and icy in the way I was hoping Numb would be. Wet - I smell ice and a bit of pine. There is mint present, yet I don't really consider this a minty scent. It's more of a hint, to add to the chill. Dry - this doesn't seem to change much. There is a sense of expanse with this oil; I don't feel like I am in the middle of a forest, so much as on a barren plane. I vsualize a wide expanse of snow and ice, with a single snow-covered tree on the side. Lovely and perfect for the winter months. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    Sed Non Satiata

Wet - omg this smells as good as I hoped it would! Patchouli, cognac and honey are the first notes I notice. Sweet, boozy and dark! Dry - wow, this is strong patchouli now. I think that this and Alone contain Fritz's patchouli, which is earthy and dark. As this dries the cognac and honey burn off, leaving primarily patchouli and a bit of myrrh behind. After awhile even they fades, leaving a soft, lovely skin musk. This is nice, but not what I was expecting. I was hoping for more sweetness and booze, and while I get that when wet, it fades away much too quickly. I think this is an oil that will benefit from aging, so I plan on coming back and testing it again in a few months, but for now, I am a tiny bit disappointed with it. But then again, that's only because this is the scent I was looking forward to the most. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    Baneberry

Wet - a delicious juicy berry, reminiscent of one of the notes in Yemaya. Dry - as it dries the berry sweetens up, and becomes perilously close to blueberry. Nice, but too sweet a fruit on dry-down. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 2 .

    Gluttony

Wow, this was a gimp from a forumite and I have to wonder why I never thought to try this myself. Wet - this smells incredible. Sweet and rich and chocolatey. The perfect oil to wear for PMS! I already love it! Dry - as it dries it becomes less sweet, and yet still rich and delicious. Chocolate is the top note here, but I can smell the other notes hanging out underneath. This smells like the most delious candy confection. I can see using this as a mood lifter in the same way that I need a piece of chocolate now and then. Most amazing of all is how long this lasts. I tried a bit, and showered about 2 hours later, which usually removes the scent. But here I am after 12 hours and I can still smell it. This never happens to me! I really enjoy this, and will definitely consider a bottle down the road. I like this much better than the similiar Hellcat. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 4.

    Brimstone

Wet - black and smokey. This smells like a darker version of Djinn; more charcoal than smoke. It definitely lives up to its name. Dry - More of the same, there's not much morphing here. There's quite a bit of throw with this oil, although it seems to burn itself out in about an hour. Lovely, but very similiar to Djinn, which I like just a tiny bit better. On the wickedgoddess scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being best, this rates a 3.
