Sexy, Smutty, Seductive, Provocative... It's All in Here
DameBecca replied to ipb's topic in Recommendations
A big surprise to me was Lampades. It took on a sexual connotation for me after a certain day where I honestly thought my co-worker was going to throw me to the ground and do unspeakable things to me after I stuck my wrist under his nose. Before then I thought it smelled good, but never dreamt it would be one of those scents, lol. Dia de los Muertos....I call that the "orgasm in my nose scent" and I think that any scent that makes you feel that sexy, will make others pick up on that feeling. -
In the bottle: Very fresh and green. It has this note to it that reminds me of the way a Jamba Juice store smells, but I can't pinpoint it. It's not fruity.....more like the smell of a green banana skin. It also has a little hint of spiciness in the background. Wet: The bright green note really comes out strong with a piney note behind it. This morphs very quickly into a grassy scent. It's a very uncomplicated scent, very sunny and summery. Drydown: The greenness morphs into a more lemony scent, but it takes on a very plasticy background. This oil does not like my skin. All for the best anyway because it lasts less than an hour on me.

I have an intense dislike for any Jasmine notes, but I cannot resist trying every BPAL oil that I come into contact with. This perfume was so strongly jasmine, that you could easily convince me that it was a single note (or maybe my nose just isn't sophisticated enough, lol). I never put this on my skin because the jasmine was overpowering in the bottle and I could not stand it. Of course, I then proceeded to spray the entire table with the oil when I snapped the lid back on the imp and got it all over my hand. If you like jasmine, this is the scent for you!

After reading the reviews here I am so sad. I wanted it to be everything that has been written about it, and it was the complete opposite on me. In the bottle: Sweet, powdery and soft, light floral with just a tiny tiny bit of spice behind it. Lighter and more subtle than I expected. Very unobtrusive, like a background scent. Wet: It's staying very true to the bottle. Still very powdery. I am very surprised by this one. I was expecting a scantily clad, fiery-eyed harem dancer enchanting men in a dusty tent, but instead found an innocent, young girl, smiling shyly from a perfume tent in a bazzar on a quiet afternoon. Much more understated and softer than I expected. Drydown: It's still staying very true, with the powdery side coming out a little more. The carnation is the strongest note, mingling well with the musk. I smell very little spice and no sandalwood. Overall/Comments: It's a "pretty" scent, very soft. Way too powdery and floral for me. On my skin, it's just flower and musk, two scents that don't really rock my world. The carnation is just awful, actually. I had to wash it off after a while becuase it was bugging me. I was looking for something spicier and warmer, along the lines of Madrid, but just got "Blech". Usually my skin will pick up any sweet/foody notes and bring them to the front, but I didn't get any of the vanilla and spices that a lot of reviews mentioned. I really wanted to like it, but it looks like there will be an open space in my perfume box soon....

Lush to BPAL scent comparisons (BNever included too)
DameBecca replied to Vanilla's topic in Recommendations
Someone mentioned the combo of BNever (body wash) and O earlier in this thread. I have found tha the perfect addition to this is the Gentle Lentil shampoo bar. I adore using these three products together; I smell like honey and vanilla all day long. -
In the bottle: Deep, smoky, musky and masculine. A little bit of spice. There is a very faint citrus note way way underneath the spices and musk. This is a scent for TA just when all the shit starts to go down. An inkling of deception and manipulation met with fierce resistance and intense loyalty. Wet on skin: The citrus/lemon-ey note jumps out and the musk is gone. It's still masculine, but taking on a lighter, almost sunnier feel. This is TA's scent when he returns to his home, triumphant, and greets his daughter, whom he hasn't seen in years. It's hopeful and bright. Drydown: It smells like Pledge, and not in a good way. Overall/Comments: I am sitting here on the verge of tears. I adore this scent in the bottle but it turned on me, evoking the true sense of Master William's nastiest drama. I will be forever envious of those that can wear it and keep it's true nature.

In the bottle with the cap on, it smells like sticking your face in a bag of potting soil. It's insane how much this smells like real dirt. It has a tiny tiny hint of wood in it. Like a couple of pieces of bark mixed into the soil. Taking the cap off and smelling it in the bottle changes the scent quite a bit. It ages it, taking on a slightly dusty scent, the moss and loam come out. It smells more like potting soil that has been on the ground for a few days, not quite as fresh and clean, but still very much alive. Lightens a lot when wet on skin, but stays very true. Wood starts to come out a little more. After a few minutes, it sweetens up just a tiny bit. It's still very very fresh. Smells just like a nursery. Drydown: Most scents warm up a lot on me, but this stays very fresh and cool, more like dirt in the morning, with dew on it. You can sense the life in this scent, the spirits wriggling and pushing up through the soil. Sadly, it does fade quickly and I have to press my nose to my skin to smell it less than half an hour after application. Overall/Comments: I have been very anxious to get this scent. I really, really wanted it to smell like dirt and started worrying that I might be dissapointed. But, it blew me (and my expectations) away. I could not have imagined this scent any better than it actually is. I wasn't sure that I would actually like wearing this (it does seem odd to want to smell like dirt), but I can't stop smelling my wrist! This is something that I would save for a day of gardening or cleaning around the house, but I most likely will not wear it out much. I am so impressed by this scent that I will be decanting imps becasue I want everyone to experience it.

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued
DameBecca replied to darklorelei's topic in Recommendations
Does anyone have recommendations for something similar to Corazon? I reminded my mom three times to order it before it was gone forever. She called me up tonight and asked me to order more. She said that something just basically similar would be good; it doesn't have to be a perfect match. Thanks! -
This is one of the first three scents that I ever smelled from BPAL. It was an instant favorite, so much so that my friend gave me her only imp! It was love at first sniff. After smelling close to 50 of BPALs scents, this is still my #1. In the bottle: It smells purely like honey. Very sweet and simple and just...yummy. Wet: It keeps the honey scent and a touch of vanilla comes out as well. The scent warms up and really works with my chemistry. Drydown:It stays very true to the bottle on me. Very sweet and almost purely honey. It gets just slightly powdery, but in a very good way. If anyone has ever smelled Kama Sutra Honey Dust, this smells very similar. Overall impression/Final Thoughts: This scent is sooo sexy to me. It makes me feel very slinky and seductive, very Marilyn Monroe. I always tell my friend that it makes me want to make out with myself. It really makes me want to lick my wrists as well. This is one oil that sticks with me almost all day. I put it on in the morning and it's still there when I get off of work.

I do not have a bottle of this scent, but a close friend of mine does. I typically do not like rose scents. I adore the smell of a real rose, but not rose scents. The first time I smelled this oil, I was amazed. It smells like a fresh rose! The green notes really make all the difference. It gives it that dew-ey, morning rose bloom smell. Very fresh and light. Sadly, when I put this on, the green notes vanished and it turned into that powdery Victorian rose smell. I hate that smell. I almost cried when it turned on me. I envy everyone that can wear this and have it stay true.

Soooo heavy and sweet. Exaclty as the description says. In the bottle: Very, very strong. It's almost overwhelming and actually put me off for a couple of days. Chocolate almost knocks you over. Hazelnut with a little buttercream and praline in the background round it out. Wet: Smells just like an Oatmeal Cookie (the drink, made with Bailey's, Butterscotch Schnapps and Cinnamon Schnapps). Something spicy comes out, I can't decide if it's cinnamon or clove, maybe even nutmeg. The chocolate stays strong and the caramel comes out. Starts to mellow out and not be so overwhelmingly sweet and the spice continues to develop. Drydown: Leaves chocolate (this remains strong, right in the front the entire time it is on), praline, buttercream and the spice. The spice eventually smells like cinnamon schnapps. Finally leaves just the chocolate/cocoa. Overall impression/final thought:This one lasts a long time and stays fairly strong. You have to really, really like foody, sweet scents for this one. I looooove it, even though it is a bit much when first applied. I layered Hollywood Babylon over this later in the day, after it had almost completely faded and they were a perfect match. I got good reactions to this from the girls at work. I smelled like a chocolate shop all day. This will induce cravings!

I snagged a bunch of my mom's imps this weekend while dog-sitting and I was pleasantly surprised to see Dorian lying in wait for me. In the bottle: All of the facets come out. It's deifnitley sweet, but there is that musk underneath, not letting you forget that it is there. It absolutely conjures up visions of a sunny Victorian tea parlor that has one dark, mysterious corner. Wet and drydown: They smell exaclty the same on me. This is the first oil that has not changed once it dries. There is only one way for me to describe this fragrance on me: Chance by Chanel. I was amazed, but you could tell me that I had my Chance on and I would beleive it. It's a beautifuly sophisticated scent with a little playfullness to it.

This scent is pure peppermint and chocolate to me. It reminds me of the green and brown chocolate mints that a lot of restaurants have. I never could smell all of the other notes that everyone else does. In the bottle, wet on my skin and after an hour, it only loses a bit of the chocolate and intensifies the peppermint. This scent stays strong. I eventually had to wash it off since I didn't like the drydown on me.

Similarities Between BPAL Scents - GC and general discussion
DameBecca replied to Shollin's topic in Recommendations
I have found that O and Skuld are almost exactly the same in the bottle (very heavy with honey). Once I put them on, Skuld turns just slighty floral while O stays very sweet.
