Darkest orchid and general orchid discussion

You can check this thread for a list of orchid scents.

    Young Pine Saplings

On me, this smells EXACTLY like Paintbox Soapworks' Comfort and Joy. There's a creamy ginger thing happening. It's nice, but not something I would want to wear as perfume.

    Wrestlers

Ok, there's a note here that's translating to maple syrup on my skin and that is utterly ruining this blend for me. Damn skin chemistry.

    Male Nude, Arms Upstretched

I love this. Lots of yummy musk and a hint of linen. I can really barely detect a hint of citrus, but I have to really be sniffing for it. This does skew a little masculine, but I quite like it on me anyway. I think this will probably be a bottle purchase.

    Nude Woman Reclining

I'm actually a little shocked with this one. I never imagined I would find a jasmine I could wear, but this seems to be it. This is a LOT of flowers for me, and normally I do not enjoy anything remotely floral, but this is actually quite nice on me. It's definitely a grown-up floral, but it's not too heady or cloying. I think the calla keeps it from going screaming. If there's vanilla in here, it's extremely faint on my skin, but even that's ok. I'll keep the decant, I don't think I'll be needing a bottle.

    Dancing Koi

Ok, this seemed to mellow a lot during wear. When I first put it on I almost immediately went to scrub it off. The leather note was very in-my-face. But the champaca comes out and smoothes this nicely, the toasted sandalwood does lend a smoky vibe to this. Not that it smells like smoke, more the impression of it. It stays a little sharp on my skin, and the champaca is a little too in the foreground for my tastes.

    Sleeping Nymph and Satyrs

Yeah, this one is not working for me at all. I think the rose is too predominant on my skin, so it's turning this very rose-heavy. It's kind of sharp on me. The woods aren't as smooth as I would have thought.

    Burning Vulva

Ok, this may be the weirdest skin chemistry reaction ever, but on my skin, this turns into "LUSH store". I think it might be the floral notes combining with the beeswax or something. But it definitely smells like I've been hanging out all day at LUSH. It's not a bad scent, mind you, and actually I quite like it. But it's definitely not what I was expecting. The leather note is almost non-existent, and I'm only getting a hint of ginger. Mainly it's flowers and beeswax with a hint of amber.

    Kypris

In the bottle, the almond note is pretty strong. In the wet stages, it's predominantly cherry and almond. However, as this dries, it really comes together. It turns into a sweet vanillic scent. The honey comes out a bit more, and the almond fades slightly. The cherry seems to disappear on my skin. There does seem to be an incensey edge to this that I wasn't expecting. The sugar cane gives it a lightness, and for once it doesn't go to maple syrup on my skin. I can't detect any rose water, and the lemon peel is very faint on me. All in all, I quite love this.

    Dawn: Priestess

This was a little harsh when I first applied it. I have to be honest and say I really wasn't a fan. The jasmine and rose were very prominent, and neither play well on my skin. But as it dried, WOW. The myrrh and patchouli came out and really add a wonderful incensey feel to this. It ends up being predominantly resins on my skin, with a hint of floral underneath.

    Dawn: Maiden

Again, I'm rather surprised that the roses behaved here. They stayed soft, and actually quite pretty. This is a creamy, soft floral on me, with predominantly rose and olive blossom with honey. It does get a little soapy on my skin, but it stays soft, and the soap doesn't get screamy like it usually does. I quite like it, but my husband is not a fan.

    Dawn: Mother

Alright, I should preface this review by stating that I dislike rose and frankincense on my skin. That being said, this was beautiful on me! It was a rich, and dusty scent as the previous reviewer stated. The frankincense didn't go to play-doh as it usually does, nor did the rose go to ammonia. Instead, this turned into a really nice incense-y kind of blend, with the saffron lending a hint of spice. I think the honey helps to keep things from getting too bitter.

    PX68

I'm getting some booze as schackjj did on first application, but it seems to burn off quickly. I'm left with oranges and sandalwood. It's a little more sharp than I was hoping, but it softens considerably as it dries.

    Anjali v3

I get plum here, but it doesn't go juicy like plums usually do on my skin. There's just a hint on spice here, but I don't get clove. The spice stays really subtle. There's a wood note underneath, but it smells more like pine than cedar on my skin. I like it.

    WILF

This is very, very similar to Snake Oil on my skin, with a hint of chocolate peppermint. It's sweet, with a large hit of red musk.

    The Arabian Dance

Alright, I'm not sure about this one. When I first apply it, there is a strong blast of bitter coffee, and the leather goes slightly chemically on me. I was a little nervous. But, after an hour or so, the bitter vibe mellows considerably, and the leather softens. The end result is a really beautifully soft but sexy scent. There are spices here that call to mind Mama-Ji, or maybe Nanny Ashtoreth (I get the two confused). As I like the finished product, I think I'll hold on to this for awhile, and see if aging will calm the beginning stages of this.

    Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse

I also get a blast of fruit when I first apply this. As it settles, the blackberry comes out prominently, as well as the black currants. There's a tartness to this. I'm getting just a hint of red musk here, which surprises me, as usually red musk is a pretty dominant note on my skin. This is pretty sharp on me, and I was expecting something a little more musky/resiny, I think this will probably age well, so I'll keep it for a bit and see if things smooth out.

    Champagne And Opium

I would agree that this may settle and age wonderfully. Right now, the champagne is a little too bright here, but the if the drydown is any indication, this could be AMAZING! The opium note is sweet and smokey, and the champagne adds a light boozey touch to it. It's pretty good now, but I feel like it could develop into AWESOME!

    Mommy Fortuna

The honey note here is very sweet on my skin, and the gunpowder goes sharp and metallic. I'm not a big fan of this one on my skin, but I can see how it would be wonderful on the right person!

    The Midnight Carnival

This is a fantastic sweet incensey blend! It's smooth and smokey and just a hint of flowers. There's a darkness to this that's very evocative. I quite like this one. I don't find the lavender to be very prominent here.

    Arachne of Lydia

This smells wonderfully of clove and dark fruit. It's sweet but dry. I'm not normally one for blackcurrants but this is really nice. I get the comparison to VQ, but zz was right on the money regarding the differences. I like it.

    The Ninth Cage

This one was a little cool for me. I should preface this by stating that metallic scents and I do not get along. On my skin this was very cold, with a definite metallic tang that went slightly cologney. There was a soft woods note in here but I really had to sniff for it. This one wasn't very me.
  23. crebbsgirl

    The Butterfly

Oh, I really like this! Sweet and citrusy. The bergamot and petitgrain add a citrus and woods vibe respectively, while the tonka lends a fuzzy vanillic tone and the amber smooths the whole thing out. I cannot wait to see how this ages! It's soft, fuzzy and warm with a bright splash.

    The Last Unicorn

I was concerned when I first applied this, because the white chocolate was doing that funk thing that it sometimes does on my skin. As it dried, the funk disappeared and I was left with something pretty awesome. Sweet and a bit floral but with a hint of something earthy and smooth. I really like this.

    The Lilac Wood

Grassy and lots of lilac, with a hint of soft woods and a light musk. This does go a little soapy on my skin, but it's not screaming at me.
