This is pure sweet beeswax on me. I think there may be frankincense deep in the background here, and some light floral as well. There is a herbal note in the wet stages that I believe may be anise like fairnymph suggested. It's lovely, and as it dries it just gets smoother and creamier.

This is sweet honey and patchouli. The peach blossom is very faint on me, which I'm happy about because fruits don't work very well on me. The neroli prevents this from going too sweet. This is light and glowing indeed (as a previous reviewer stated). A little comforting, but sexy at the same time. I like this a lot.

I seem to be having trouble with the Snakes. All that I have tried so far smell exactly like Snake Oil to me. This one was no different at first, but after serveral hours, the sugar cane came out as a distinct note, and I could detect the labdanum as well. This was nice, but I prefer Snake Oil itself, as there didn't seem to be much difference on my skin.

This is an awesome citrus blend. The lemon verbena and grapefruit are light and sparkling, and the lemongrass adds a tang. The musk gives it a bit of depth. I really like this, but Husband says it smells like Pledge, which subsequently ruined it for me.

The patchouli and carnation here is just wonderful! I'm really liking this. Wet, there is a bit of a cloying sweetness from the peach blossom and mandarin but as it dries it mellows beautifully. The frankincense stays in the background for me, and the honeysuckle is gorgeous. As I continue to wear it though, the mandarin seems to gain back a little of the cloying sweetness from the wet stage. I ended up having to wash this off because it went so sweet. Not for me unfortunately.

This was a slightly floral vanilla mingled with light musk. The aloe added a bit of green to the blend, and the white sandalwood really added some depth. This was pretty light, but it definitely held a masculine edge. A little clean smelling, but not in a soapy way. I liked this, but it wasn't spectacular on my skin.

This is a warm musky blend, very reminiscent of Ivanushka. It wears VERY close to the skin, and I can only just barely get a hint of scent as I move my arms around. Very innocuous and pleasant, with a slight herbal overtone. I like it, but it's not spectacular on me.

Smoky Moon 2009: Tristesses de la Lune
crebbsgirl replied to Delirium1009's topic in A Little Lunacy
I think I'm getting more "smoke" than most other reviewers here. I agree with the hazy quality, but on my skin, there is a definite smoke note, not just the implication of one. I also think there may be vetiver hiding in here. The florals take awhile to come out, and I agree with the statement that this is a very layered blend. It does seem that the throw is completely different than the scent at my wrists. Regardless, this is beautiful and ethereal almost. I love this, and I can't wait to see how it ages. -
OMG THIS IS BUTTERY FAIL!! At least, that's immediately what went through my head when I put it on. I had to keep my wrists away from my nose for a good 20 minutes. As it dried though, the woods and herbs really blossomed on my skin. It cut through the pumpkin and really mellowed it out. The pumpkin sweetens up the herbs and woods beautifully. The final product is something totally wearable, and I think I will love this in the fall.

The World Ash. Nine woods, nine leaves, and three herbs each for Ratatosk and Vidofnir, with three final herbs to placate Nidhogg. This was a very clean woods scent. Light and airy. Almost soapy on my skin. There is a bit of a minty tone here, but I'm not entirely sure what that is. It's a very light green blend. Nice, but not for me.

This is one of the most intriguing scents ever. It smells almost exactly like it's namesake on me. During the wet stages, the mint and anise are VERY prominent. As it dries, they calm down a bit and the blend takes on a soft herbal quality. The cardamom is quite nice here, and the lemon is very faint on me. I love this, but I have no idea where or how often I would actually wear it!

Ashy apple. That's really what this amounted to on me. Dry and unsweet, almost a little tart. I'm not one for apple scents, but this one is quite intriguing. I'm not sure how often I would wear it, but I'm tempted to keep it around to find out. The apple is featured much more prominently in the wet stages, and the drydown is where the ash really comes out.

I think this one might benefit from some aging. Wet, this was bitter and sharp. Brash even. I almost had to wash it off. A little sour smelling as well. I held out and about 1/2 hour into it, this got softer, and a little quieter. It turned powdery on my skin. I'll re-try in after a couple of months, but for right now, it's just too biting.

Ok, this is a little weird. But I swear this went soapy on me. I have no idea why. The whole experience of this blend was a little odd for me. It started off rather disjointed, as if all of the parts were vying for the foreground. And then about 5 minutes in the whole scent just plain disappeared, kind of like the eye of the storm, but in a perfume version. And the about 1/2 hour in the moss and woods came out, but with a really soapy overtone to the whole thing. It's not overly pleasant on me. I have no idea what my skin did to this one, but I'll be passing it on to someone who's chemistry isn't quite so full of the wonk.

This is the indian musk from Black Lace, with a metallic edge. I think it's the metals making it masculine for me. I associate those scents with my grampa. Its comforting, but I think probably because of my own scent associations. The tobacco flower adds a bit of smoothness, while the balsam gives it a bit of depth. I like it, but I think I would prefer it on a man.

Smoky fruit a la Lunar Eclipse or Dark Delicacies. Dark fruits and smooth greenery, with a hint of woods. I think I can detect plum, and just the barest hint of apple. I'm not getting a whole lot of musk here. Nice, with a good depth. I can't typically wear fruit scents, but this one is doable on my skin.

This is a wonderful honey blend. A little herbal, a little woodsy. I'm not getting the bubblegum scent I usually get from lotus. I can detect honeysuckle as well. Sweet and calming, but not overly cloying. I really really like this.
-
Ok, not for me. Butter rum and vanilla cream = overpoweringly foody and sweet. Blech. I feel like I just ate a million cupcakes. My teeth are starting to hurt this is so sweet. I can see how this would be popular among the crowd though. I'm glad I got to try it, but I definitely don't need more.

Alright, Malkuth on me started with a bang of patchouli and vetiver. It softened a little as time went on and there was a distinct cherry note underneath. I think there may be a hint of pine in here as well? The cassia was fairly predominant as others have mentioned.. This went a little cloying on me to tell the truth, and there was something that reminded me of Blood Kiss or Voodoo.

I am getting a distinct violet note here. Violets always translate rather sharply on my skin. This is smoky and somber, with deep woods, dark flowers and greens. Overall, this is a little too sharp on me. The drydown turns into pure powder, so I'm afraid this one just didn't work.
-
Whew! This is sharp and herbal when first applied. It makes me wrinkle my nose a little. As it dries, thankfully it smooths out. The honeysuckle is surprisingly prevalent here, where I thought the other notes would drown her out. This is earthy, and green. I like it, and for some reason, I find this to be calming. I don't know how often I would necessarily wear it, but I'm very glad I got to try it.

This is very soft, and wears close to the skin. One of those "your skin but better" scents really. The skin musk and rice flower combine to create an ethereal creamy softness. The benzoin lends a vanillic sweetness while the ginger gives the entire blend an hint of interest. I really like this, but it's a little soft for me.
-
Sugary sweet incense to start with. As this dries, there's a definite white floral vibe that comes out here. I think jasmine for sure, but it's not amping all to hell like jasmine usually does on my skin. This is really nice. Then, about an hour in, this goes soapy. There is a distinctly "clean" edge to this. Hmmm, I'm really on the fence for this one. I like it, but I don't know how often I'd wear it.
-
Let me first say that lilac musk is freaking gorgeous!!! This is wonderful! The tonka and benzoin lending a vanillic sweetness. The wood violet adds a bit of sharpness here, but is rounded out beautifully by the musk and resins. The lime didn't come our for me. The only think that ruined this was the blackberry leaf. It just doesn't like my skin and turns to funk.
-
As someone who has trouble with Dorian I must say this is positively scrumptious!! Dorian can go weird and musty on my skin occasionally, but this is like Dorian without the funk. The vanilla bean and tea are very much similar to Dorian. The white musk adds a nice depth, and the jasmine leaf is pretty faint. It's very comforting, along the same lines as Wulric.
