Huh, this went generic men's cologne on me. I wasn't really expecting that. The gin lent a sharpness I didn't much care for to tell the truth. The bay rum and lime were standout notes on my skin, and the tobacco showed up in the dry down to add a smoky sweetness. Nice, but not really me.

The King Mandarin and Bergamot are most predominant for me in the wet stages. As this blend dries, the white ginger comes out more, lending a soft spice so that the feel is a little citrus-y sweet. The nutmeg doesn't really show up for me, and this ends up being a predominantly white ginger blend with somewhat of an aquatic undertone. Not really my bag.

Ok, I don't get ANY rose from this at all. Wet this was sticky balsam and oud. The clove started out a little sharp as it hit my skin, and there seemed to be a touch of funk to this. As it dries, the benzoin and myrrh come out, adding a vanillic resiny depth, which goes just a touch powdery. It's a fairly dark scent, and the term gothic captures it perfectly. I like this, but I think it could stand some aging to mellow out.

What is everyone's take on Valentine's Day? My family celebrated. Mom always got us chocolates or something little like that. She and Dad exchanged gifts (small ones) too. But in my own relationships I never really celebrated. That sounds weird right? I'll still call my family and wish them a Happy Valentines Day, but my husband and I will celebrate an anti-Valentines Day at the house and eat pizza and watch horror movies. I can't articulate it very well, but I think I have a hang up about forced holidays? I don't know. UGH, my brain's not working tonight. Do you like traditional Valentine's Day colors (red, pink, white, more?) ? Hrmmm... I was about to say no, but I realize I wear alot of white, decorate a lot with dark red, and I actually secretly like pink. However, if that actually gets out it may ruin me. A Favorite love poem? Can't say as I have one, but those quotes bonny came up with upthread were just stunning. I'll have to look that guy up. What's everyone's favorite semi-obscure (or underappreciated!) animal? Capybara What is your favorite sign that spring is coming? Spring flowers blooming! Knit Things? Yes please!! I love all things knit and I tend to run cold so all manner of things knitted are awesome for me!!! For those of you with pets, would you like pet things? Toys, treats, etc? We have 3 cats, they love those little plastic springs and knit toys with catnip. Unfortunately we can't give them much in the way of treats since they've all had trouble with crystals or other renal problems and we have to really be careful what we feed them!! Favorite Love Story: Ooooh, this is a really good question. I can't think of one that really resonates with me, but I'll come back to it if my Witch needs me to answer. Would anyone like receiving naughty/sexy things? Hrmmm... erotica maybe, but no toys or anything. Who on the thread likes attending Ren Faires, SciFi/Comic Cons & the like? And do you dress up for them? I've never been to anything like that. Do you need any accessories for your phone, computer, mp3 player, etc.? I just got a Dell Studio 1555 and I don't have a sleeve or case or anything for it. I also have an iPod touch that is currently nekkid. Gently Used CDs/DVDs? Love it! I *LOVE* new music, so yes please!! Interested in receiving gifts representative of Witch's country or culture? Sure! I'm not one for knick-knacks, but someone up-thread mentioned something about pictures and stuff! I'd love that! Candy? I'm not really a big fan of candy to tell the truth. (I know, I'm a big weirdy.) But I like licorice. I also have developed a recent obsession with violet candies and lavender candies. Which apparently are really hard to find here! WoW No. Plush Microbes? I find them cute, but I'm not dying to own one. Mardi Gras? Well, I like Mardi Gras. I like beads, and shiny things, and the overall celebratory vibe. I LOVE masks and masquerades! Homemade Sewn Stuff? Any fabrics to avoid? As someone who is notoriously anti-craft, I am loving all things crafted - by other people who aren't me. So that's a yeah!!! As for fabrics, I'm pretty easy. I'm allergic to fabric softener though. kitchen-related gadgetry? Hrrrm, sure. I'm pretty well set with peelers, and garlic presses and the like, but someone mentioned a little finger scrubber for veggies? That'd be cool! Would you like new nail polish? Sure! I like fun colours, but no orange please. I'm also coveting some of the Trading Post polishes so you can get an idea of the colours I like there. And sparkly stuff. I love me some shiny sparkly things Do you like incense and/or scented candles, and are you able to burn them in your home? If so, what kinds of scents do you like? I definitely could always use more storage! Would you use a natural sea sponge? Sure! Bacon chocolate? I cannot imagine this would taste good. Although I love bacon and I love chocolate... so? Coffee, hot chocolate, or tea? Coffee, tea and then hot chocolate, in order of preference. But I do love me some tea, so maybe coffee and tea are tied in my estimation. Would you like some of my favorite recipes? Sure! I like cooking, it's just hard to decide what to make some days! posters, pictures, art? YES! I love vintage pieces and old play posters especially. Would you like soaps? Especially from Paintbox? And ESPECIALLY the Valentines Special Edition Soaps?? Yes please. Dark Heart looks especially awesome. New question--I'm calling this "could never happen in a million years": Your Witch is perusing the wares at a local yard sale. S/he looks down and sees [insert impossibly rare item that you've always wanted but could never afford] with a $5-10 sticker on it. Sheepishly s/he takes it to the guy behind the folding table. "Do you know what this is?" s/he inquires. The gentleman states that it belonged to his mother/sister/grandmother/Great Aunt Beulah and he thinks it's for, like, hair or something. With a trembling hand, s/hes pays the man and heads home with the inconceivable riches. So, what is this unobtainable miracle your Witch found? This is an awesome question! I'm taking an aromatherapy course currently so I'd have to say, Arctander's Perfume and Flavor Materials of Natural Origin. I have been lusting after this for years. What about UNTOUCHED make-up samples or any other type of girly-sample thing? I don't wear much makeup ever so not for me. Salted caramels? No thanks! Imagine that someone hands you their wallet and sends you into a really good bakery. They have everything, from breads to brownies, cookies to croissants, anything you could imagine, and you're allowed to pick out five things for yourself. What do you pick? Rosemary Garlic Bread Blueberry Scones Chocolate croissants Honestly, that's all I would need to be a happy camper. Sockdreams? Good GODS yes! Do you like alcoholic beverages? If so, what is your preference (beer, wine, liquor...)? Not much into alcohol these days. Wines always but I don't think you could ship those across borders. Steampunk? No thanks. Would you like or accept an energetically-charged item or gift? Something that had power poured into it? If so, do you have a particular purpose that you'd prefer? (Love, protection, money, etc.) Sure. My husband and I are trying to move to be closer to our families, but we need jobs before we can do so. Anything like that would be greatly appreciated. Do you have any significant upcoming events in your life you'd like something for? A child/yourself graduating from high school/college? Are you buying a new home or car soon? Moving in with someone/getting married? Taking a new job? Moving to a new part of the country/world? I think we're set. Ooooh! BPAL's beloved alicia_stardust is having a contest! If you're my Witchee, would you like a chance to win these earrings? Sure! How are we feeling about burlesque? Indifferent. Is there anything you're lusting after in the Villainess update? Not particularly. I custom mix nail polish, a process called 'frankening'. If you were my witch, would you enjoy a custom 'franken', based on whatever colors/theme you chose? Sure, that sounds awesome. Since everyone is spending the same amount of money on this swap, would you be interested in seeing the cost breakdown of each item in your package? If my witch wants to share, sure, but I don't need to know. Do you like guessing who your witch is, or would you prefer to know? Do you mind knowing? I don't mind knowing but I'd rather be surprised! If it's going to be obvious who your witch is, would you rather she played the ninja and sent one big box at the end, or smaller packages along the way? Whatever's easiest for her. I doubt I would recognize an address, regardless if I've swapped with her before. What color are your eyes? Hazel/greenish If you had to choose a color for a nightie to sleep in what color would it be? Any colour. Are you opposed to vegan baked goods? Or baked goods in general? I loved baked goods! I don't have a dog! Lip balm: Yay or nay? If yay, what are your favorite kinds (brands, consistency, whatever)? YAY! I've recently become enamoured with it. I like balms and glosses. I'd love to try the Italian Sausage from Soapopotamus, or The Great Gustavo Lip Liniment from The Morbid The Merrier or the Redwood Lip Tint or Rhubarb Lip Tint from Flourish Bath & Body. How do you feel about home-canned goods, like pickles, jelly, preserves, stuff like that. No thank you. OPI Alice in Wonderland set? YES! How do you feel about handmade stuffed animals? I'm pretty indifferent. Are there any accessories you'd really like? (Keychains, little purses, etc.) I think I'm set here! But thanks!! What are your favorite animals? Um, pandas, bears, cats etc Is there anything you've had to give up that you really miss or want back? Maybe something a witch could help out with? Not really. I tend to be quite a minimalist. I purge our house about twice a year really. I'm we're not using it in a 6 month period (or 1 year for seasonal things) then it's gone. We don't have a lot of storage in our house (we live in a century cottage with no closets) so everything is OUT. Which means that if it's not useful or productive in some way, it's really just taking up space. If you were a student at Hogwarts, what house would you be in? Honestly, I'd have to cop to Slytherin. I get the job done. I'm a space junky. Love anything galaxy, space, star, etc related. I'm even getting a milky way tattoo one day. And I am a total Star Trek geek. Anyone else? Hmmm, not really. I took astronomy in university for a couple of semesters and just couldn't get into it. I've never seen any of the Star Wars movies (ok, don't trout me witch, my husband mocks me enough as it is!), and my dad was a HUGE TNG fan so it was always on at our house, but I never got into it. The new movie however, was LOVE. (I don't believe that this is actually a question, I think there was discussion about it and then SultryWolf randomly bolded it and people started answering it so I'll put it here for reference but I just can't get behind this question) Severed fingers? No. If you like tea, what are your favorite kinds? Fruity, sweet, chai, plain, black, green, red, white? I love all types of tea. I prefer loose for home and bagged for work. I like sweet, chai, black, green, white. I'm not so much into fruity tea but if it's mixed with black tea I'm game. My favourites currently are Pear Cream, Blueberry Rooibus Cream, and Vanilla Caramel. What's your Patronus? Non-Potter fans, what's your Spirit Animal? Panther or lynx. Some kind of dangerous cat. Do you have any personal heroes / heroines and why? Hrm... Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Parks, Marie Curie, Louise Brooks, Sojourner Truth Are there any languages or countries that you're really interested in? French, Spanish, Greek If you could be in any fictional universe, what would it be? (Harry Potter, Firefly, Lord of the Rings, Silent Hill, wtv.) Firefly! But only if I could be romantically linked to both Mal AND Simon. Are there any books you particularly want to read that you don't mind being 2nd hand (or 3rd or 4th )? Anything on my Amazon wishlist would be awesome. I also enjoy discovering new things to read, so feel free to provide suggestions!! Do you like gardening, growing vegetables, house plants? Need any small tools, seeds, labels? I kill everything plant-related. Are there any soundtracks you'd be interested in getting a copy of? Whip It!! Who are your fantasy five? In no particular order: Jared Padalecki, Adam Brody, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Nathan Fillion (Firefly era), James McAvoy If you had to choose SHOES or PURSES? I can't choose! I love both!! If you could have 5mL of ANY ONE BPAL scent, what would it be? Anything on my wishlist I guess. Or Voodoo Queen Loose tea or bagged tea? Or both? Loose for home, bagged for work. If you could have one "unselfish" wish (but personal) what would it be? That my husband get recognized for his work. He's an extremely talented man, and deserves credit for what he does. I love to decoupage/collage boxes and notebooks. If you were my witchee, would you like one? What colors/themes would you want it to have? Find cute pictures--inspire me (and other crafty witches)! I would love that! I have a fascination for anything 20's or 30's inspired. These are a few of my favourite things: ...? The coffee in bed my husband brings me to wake me up on the weekends, curling up with a good book on a rainy day, tea with a splash of milk and honey, fuzzy blankets, bundling, smelling good, having things smell good around me, drinking good wine and eating good food, leisurely meals, seeing new places, being still, my cat's purr, laughing until my stomach hurts, the made up language my husband and I use. Are you following the Olympics? What's your favorite sport to watch? Would you be interested in merch? No. And let me explain. Living in Canada, we have been inundated with Olympic propaganda for the past 2 years. I am tired of the &%$*#@ Olympics. I'm all for patriotism and what not, but this is effing ridiculous.

I agree with whoever said this was the same musk from Buck Moon. Pretty and light and soft. There is definitely a rose tinge to this, I can smell it quite sharply against the musk. This is pretty powdery too. Someone said this had an ethereal feel to it, and I would have to concur. It floats around you. Nice and classic smelling, but not for me. Rose and I don't get along, and I can smell that it's starting to amp and take over the blend.
-
This smelled like violet for awhile after I first applied it. I'm thinking it may be orris, and my skin has a tendency to turn orris to violet. It was powdery but a little sharp. It dried sweeter and smoother. As for the brimstone, I think I got a light touch of smoke in here, but it wasn't overly noticeable. Overall this was pretty light and clean. Nice, but not interesting on me.

Ok, firstly let me say that I am a patchouli lover. It's normally a note that can't go wrong for me. That being said, this blend on me was pretty much single note hippie patchouli. I have NO IDEA what went wrong, but the heliotrope, oakmoss and copal never showed up. Which is weird because normally I amp the hell out of copal. Nope. Nothing but patchouli. It's not bad, mind you but it doesn't make for a very interesting smell on me.

Autumn Scents - recommend the ones you love
crebbsgirl replied to any_old_actress's topic in Recommendations
I am really loving the retail-only salon Autumn right now. For me, it's the perfect autumn scent! -
I got an aged imp of this in a recent swap, so my impressions may be different than if I had tried a fresh from the lab imp. This was buttery pumpkin when wet, but the butter aspect quickly smoothed out as this dried. The peach was very subdued here, lending a sweetness but it wasn't necessarily "fruity". The nutmeg and clove almost lent this a pumpkin pie feel, but I think the peach prevented it from happening. All in all, I wouldn't say this was particularly "foody" on my skin, but more sweet and deep in autumnal kind of way.
-
Ok, this is a weird one for me to wear. I don't know why I even thought I should try this given my incredibly spotty history with flowers but somehow we ended up together. Here goes... Wet, the lilies and rose are predominant. This does not bode well. Rose and I are just the most explosive combination on the planet. To say we loathe each other would be an understatement. I don't think any scent has ever pissed me off quite like the rose (well, and frankincense, but that's another story). Don't get me wrong, I like the smell of roses... when they're in vases, or in a garden. Not on my skin. Ditto lilies. This starts going *just* this side of headachey. Then.... Wait a minute.... And carnation comes to save the day. Suddenly I'm smelling this wonderful rich scent, floral yes, but with depth. Nothing is screaming at me anymore. Instead, there's almost a seductive whisper about this one. Elegant, and refined but a little morose. Something makes you want to peer a little closer, you know? I'm intrigued. I think I will have to retest this a couple of times to make sure it wasn't a fluke, because somehow the idea of a rose I like is just too bewildering to get my head around.
-
The lavender is much heavier here than in the released version... and I LOVE it!! The released version is so sweet it hurts my teeth to smell it, but this doesn't give me the same aching sweetness. The lavender is definitely more prominent in the wet stages, and as the scent dries, it blends with the vanilla quite seamlessly, so that it becomes a creamy lavender. It's love, and I'll be hoarding the half decant I was so generously gifted!
-
Well, count me in with the group getting coconut! On my skin, there is a predominant coconut note, followed quickly by lavender. The lemon and tea notes present in the released version don't show up on me, and I'm also not getting any of the musk that comes out in the released version either. This is creamy and soft, and I would agree with the comparisons to Lilith Victoria and TKO, but this isn't as sugary as TKO gets on me. Very soft and fluffy. I quite like this, but it's just not me.
-
This was pink pepper on the outset. Pepper goes a little funky on my skin, so I was happy when the honeysuckle came out. Still, this retained a hint of funk that just didn't smooth out.
-
This was deep and rich earth when I put it on, with just a touch of vetiver and herbs. The cedar note was very faint here, almost undetectable on me. And then as it dried, the grasses overtook the blend. It went soapy on me.
-
Ok, it's been made abundantly clear to everyone that Rose and I... we don't get along. We have a strained relationship at best, a downright contempt for each other at worse. However, I had heard mention of this scent in a rather evocative description, none of those words being "rose", "flower", or "ammonia-stink", so I thought I should give it a try. In the decant, and wet I get rose. Crap. Dry, and dusty rose. Once on my skin, however, this turns into my perfect autumnal scent. This is Samhain without the fruity overkill, this is Death of Autumn with a bit more sweetness. There's a smoky feel to this, without there being a heavy or oppressive vibe. I love it!
-
Spices, cardamom, nutmeg, and flowers. Yup! I got FLOWERS here, with an undercurrent of spice. I can tell that the cardamom and nutmeg in particular are trying to make themselves known but the FLOWERS keep beating them down. Damn skin chemistry of fail. I wanted to really like this. On me, it smells like floral incense.
-
On me, the brown musk combined with the amber to very powdery results. The rose came out and overtook this blend for me, which wasn't overly surprising as I tend to amp rose. Overall this one is not for me.
-
There is a dirty aquatic feel to this that when combined with the florals, just goes soapy on my skin. I'm not really liking this at all, and I think I feel a headache coming on.
-
The pear and gardenia are most prominent when wet. There is a sweetness that doesn't scream fruity. I quite like this, until frankincense takes over. Without fail, if a blend has a predominant frankincense component, my skin turns the scent to play-doh. And that's exactly what happened here.
-
Ok, I swear I'm not crazy but this is very reminiscent on my skin to La Fee Verte!!! The hyssop and chamomile add that herbal tinge while the tonka lends a vanillic undertone to the honey. It's stunning, and beautiful. Very light and warm. I really really like this!!
-
I'm getting lavender and jasmine here, and maybe some lilies as well. Overall, this is giving me a giant headache! Boo
-
Something here reminds me of The Caterpillar, but I can't identify it. This is smooth and sensuous. I really like this! A little incensey in feel. Myrrh and musk and fir are the prominent players here, but the fir isn't overpowering anything. Unbelievably sexy to say the least. I love it!
-
Leather and cloves. There's a hint of woods beneath, and I'm not getting much ginger here. I think the tonka might be sweetening and smoothing this out, and the black musk here is gorgeous. Now, I would give this perfect marks, had I not tried Velvet Bandito before the Count. For a dark and sexy clove, I much prefer the Bandito. But the Count is not bad in the least!
-
This is a dark and spicy forest! I like this on me okay, but I am dying to smell it on my husband! The leather isn't sharp patent, but more of a supporting player. The pine isn't in your face either. The opoponax lends a sweet depth. For a little bit in the early stages, this takes on a distinct cologney vibe, but it mellows and smooths out pretty quickly. If Sin went through a naked run in the forest at midnight, this would be the smell you get.
