    Hunger

Well, I'm now a year into my BPAL addiction, and I'm finding that some of the scents I didn't like the first time around are becoming favorites now that my nose is more attuned to these oils. Or at least that's my explanation for it -- who knows! In any case, there used to be something about Hunger that was a bit much for me, and I swapped away my bottle. I got a frimp recently, and suddenly it's all creamy vanilla with a fruity orange/floral note and an undercurrent of soft smokiness to keep it from being too sweet. I love it, and hubby couldn't stop sniffing me last night either. I'll be ordering another bottle. Go figure.

    The Perfumed Garden

I wasn't sure about this one at first, but it received an unsolicited "mmmm ... you smell soooo good" from hubby, so I figured I ought to give it more of a chance. Upon second wearing, I'm really warming to it -- a fruity floral with a bit of exotic spiciness underneath from the myrhh and sandalwood. It's really different from everything else in my collection. It's a softly sexy scent as opposed to my knock-em-over-the-head Snake Oil, Smut and Snake Charmer! Now I'm eager now to search for other scents with apple peel, quince and citron once the search engine is up again.
  3. I may be off base because it's been a while since I tried Honey Moon, and it didn't work too well on my skin, but Le Petit Mort had a VERY similar effect on me. Might be worth a shot.
  4. Thanks for the ideas, Court and minilux, I really appreciate it. I've got a tentative order planned, with a number of Voodoo oils I haven't yet tried. I'm also interested in three tarots, and since I can't order imps of them, I was wondering if anyone had more feedback for me. Strength -- seems very appropriate for my situation, and it seems like something I'd also like the scent of. The World -- this sounds grounding and wonderful, too The Sun -- this sounds uplifting and delicious as well. Any thoughts? I can't afford to get all three as bottles unsniffed, so I'd love any guidance from anyone familiar with these ones. Thank you!! ~Bea
  5. Thank you for the suggestions, Mountaingrrl and ladyfair! High John is definitely one I'm going to want to try, and Kathmandu I may have tried months ago, but I will dig out the imp, if I still have it, and give it a whirl.
  6. Thank you, Capriquarius and Diana! I'm looking into all of your suggestions. I haven't tried all the voodoo blends, and I'm going to need to read reviews to see which ones might be good that I haven't tried. I feel an order coming on... :-)
  7. Hi wonderful forumites, I'm hoping to find and oil to help me get through a rocky time. I'm not feeling sure of myself, not grounded or self-confident, and although I know an oil can't solve all my issues, I'm looking for something to help with my mind and emotions as I figure out how to get back on track. Something for strength, inner peace, confidence, or any combination of the three. I am considering ordering, but haven't smelled yet: High John the Conquerer Tarot: Strength Queen White Light, when I'm able to get my hands on a TAL oil! What I'm wondering is if anyone has thoughts on these oils, or any others I may not have thought of, and how they would fit my purpose. I love vanilla, amber and spice scents, like tea and some fresh scents, usually don't like rose on my skin. The voodoo scents I've tried so far have each seemed to have an herbally thing going on that didn't sit well with me, or had too much of a "candy" note that I couldn't stomach. Some of my scents faves so far are: Snake Charmer and Snake Oil, Devil's Night, Hetairae, Morocco, Midway, Sudha Segara, Kumiho, Spirits of the Dead. I'm open to any type of scent, though, as I'm looking for more something that might help me out. TIA for any suggestions! ~Bea

    If you like Pina Coladas

I'm certain there's some wonky chemistry going on here, but Snow White layered with Midway on me is pure tropics -- I get coconut and a pineapply scent, too. I love it, but I don't know anyone else who has mentioned it smells like this, so I may be nuts!

When you need something comforting or cheering

I've been reaching for Snake Oil when I don't feel so great lately. To me, and on my skin, it's not so much a sexy scent, but more of a warm, comforting hug. It really helps me get through the day.

    Dia de los Muertos

Wow, this is what I hoped Honey Moon or Le Petit Mort would be like. I mostly get a whiff of floral -- could be ylang ylang, although it's not causing it's usual problems -- and honey. It's a yummy, sexual skin scent on me. NOT what I expected, but I like it! I'd be very interested to try DDLM 2004 to compare....

    Black Opal

In the three times I've tried this, it's gone from a possible swap to LOVE IT. Others have said it takes getting used to, and I guess that was the case with me. Somehow at first the disparate elements of the soft vanilla and musk and that mineral smell didn't seem to go together and were off-putting. But the third time I wore it for a whole day on a whim and wow, I loved the soft smell wafting up at me all day. Very comforting and as someone else said, classy. It's a wonderful mix of sophistication and comfort, and it really is a skin scent -- never overpowering, but a lovely background presence all day. It did last on me most of the day. I had already ordered a 5 ml unsniffed, and now I'm so glad!

    Thirteen (13)

I didn't order this at first, though 13 is my number, because the notes just sounded too strange in combination. Then, the reviews made it sound promising, so I tracked some down and ... it's amazing! So strange really, but that's part of what I love. So many different phases ... first the chocolate, smooth but not too sweet ... and then a hit of green tea to keep it fresh ... and the orange peeking through the whole while. I'm sure the other notes are what keep it so very interesting, but I have a hard time picking them out. What I end up with is this wonderful drydown of smooth softness, sweet yet never cloying, with hints of freshness. It works beautifully on these unbearably hot days we've been having, but I think it could work at any temperature. It's a chameleon, and I'm in love!

Autumn Scents - recommend the ones you love

House of Night is a new fave which I'm ordering today for fall. I think it will be perfect -- spicy, earthy and a little floral to round things out.
