  1. I didn't know if I should piggy back on this topic or start a new one, so I hope this is O.K. I'm still waffling about which Snake Pits to get and would love some more thoughts on each of them. I haven't had funds to purchase any yet, and even now I'm limited, so it will be one or two, so I'd love to have as much advice as possible to narrow down my options. My BPAL loves are Snake Charmer, Kumiho, 13, Obatala, MB Underpants, Smut among others I can't think of at the moment. Snake Oil is hit or miss on me, sometimes I crave it and I do enjoy it on me, but other times it goes all powdery or even the dreaded Play-Doh. I love spices, resins and vanilla, but certain vanillas like Antique Lace don't work on me. I'd love something in the Pit that turned Snake Oil into something a bit more rounded or possibly fruity (a la Snake Charmer's plum), and although I don't often like florals I'm looking for something spring-like and tropical, so I might be open to some of the more floral Pit. Cinnamon is a no-no on me as it takes over the scent, and I have no idea about vetiver. Some fruits are wonderful, but if it veers toward banana or cherry, it overwhelms all other notes. Lastly, aquatic notes tend to go haywire on me as well. Can anyone decipher this well enough to offer any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any help!

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Oh, I would love to find something similar to this as well. Sadly, Snow White, though lovely, is nothing like it on my skin. It's much more ethereal as opposed to the wonderful ambery, woody smoothness that is Venezia on my skin.

    Beachy, Tropical Scents

I would definitely third the recommendation for Obatala. Comforting, lighthearted and sweet with a cool, refreshing undertone.

    Horreur Sympathique

This one is a surprising winner for me. I was worried it would be too "grapey" which is a no-no for my skin, or I should say my skin amps grape to the Kool Aid level very easily. This is sweet and musky, but something is also giving it a brightness that I just love. This is definitely going on my big bottle list.

    Scent for Halloween?

I'm not sure if I'll even be dressing up, but I've just gotta wear Candy Butcher.

    The Candy Butcher 2006

I don't have much new to say about this one, but ... yum! I, too, get the vague similarities to Underpants. There's something about the sweetness that's tempered with something sandalwood/spicy that does remind me of my beloved Underpants. It's foody and sweet without going over the top; it's a bit sophisticated. I wore it all yesterday at school and kept getting wonderful, creamy wafts of scent. When I got home at the end of the day, hubby kept complimenting me on how great I smelled. Another winner from Beth!

    Sandalwood Scents

I agree on Underpants as a wonderful sandalwood. It's mostly sandalwood on the drydown, on me anyway, with a wonderful hint of sweetness.

    Gennivre, L’Artiste du Diable

I wasn't sure about this one last night when I madly slathered after receiving my package, but somehow I knew I should return to it. Today it's really growing on me. I'm getting the tea, mint and orange blossom, seamlessly blended so that it's hard to separate the notes. The honey and sugar cane are not obvious to me but must be in the background sweetening it up a bit. I'm not getting the lemongrass, but then again, this is really well blended and I can't quite tell what I'm smelling. Overall, it's a smooth, refreshing balance between sweet and tart, flowery and citrus. I think I will wear this a lot in the warmer months and will be keeping it around for spring. Edited for spelling -- I really should FINISH my first cup of coffee before I write anything.

    Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)

On me this is very woodsy and softly spicy. It doesn't smell really similar to Snake Charmer or Snake Oil to me, although I can get a bit of the Snake Oil vanilla or spice underneath if I sniff deeply at my wrist. I like this, and hubby loves it. I'm thinking, as a couple other people have mentioned, that this will smell divine on him. He's willing but hasn't sampled it yet.

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

Thank you everyone for all the input on Morocco -- it's giving me much hope for my pending bottle. I'm definitely in Morocco heaven today, slathering on my little imp. It may not last the day at this rate. I will tuck this new one away if it arrives and doesn't smell quite how I want it to, but I have high hopes that it will!

    Different smells/colors, same perfume

O.K., I've tried to read all I can from discussions of Morocco to figure this out, and I'm still befuddled. Background: I've tried 3 different Morocco imps and owned and swapped away a bottle of Morocco. Sometimes I love it, and it's like a Holy Grail kind of scent, and then sometimes it gets too sharp or else way too Antique Lace-ish for me. From the Aging BPAL thread, some seem to think Morocco changes as it ages and some seem to think it's a batch issue. I now have an imp which I believe was a frimp from the lab and I can't remember how old it is. I rediscovered it yesterday and I'm in LOVE! It's a perfectly balanced sweet/spicy/smooth/soft conconction that has my nose glued to my wrist. But here's my big question: have people been having batch issues with Morocco lately? Has anyone noticed lately what new bottles have been like? I ordered another this morning because it definitely seemed worth the risk, but I'm just wondering what people's experiences have been lately with Morocco. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated -- thank you! Edited so as not to sound so darn urgent in my title.

    Harvest Moon 2006

Ooh, I love this! I haven't smelled any of the other Harvest Moons, so I can't compare, but someone said this was like a daytime Samhain, and I totally agree. It's dry and woody, a bit fruity, with that crisp "autumnal air" thing going on. Since fall is my most favorite season, I love it!

    Hungry Ghost Moon 2006

I can't add much to the reviews to this one, as I can't really pick out any of the notes. It's very well blended and I LOVE it. This is a love-at-first-sniff scent. It's a bit sweet, a bit fresh ... smooth. Obviously I really don't know how to describe it, but I'm oh-so-glad I decided to order two bottles. ETA: After wearing this for the entire evening, I still like it, but it reminds me very much of Lancome's Tresor which I used to wear. Somehow it makes me feel like I'm revisiting the past which I'm not interested in doing, so I'll probably swap one of my bottles though perhaps I'll still keep the second.
  14. Ooh, thank you everyone! I'm busily writing myself a list for swaps or an imp pack ....
  15. Thank you, Silvertree and Medvssa for your suggestions! I'm going to try them, especially Sri Lanka which I don't think I've ever even sniffed. Great ideas.
  16. Had to bump this thread because I've been pondering the same question. I'm really looking for something "Middle Eastern" in feel, with spice and warmth. I wanted to love Scherezade, but it did something kind of wonky on me, I think due to the musk. Morocco did something similar. Rose seemed to ruin a few others I wanted to love -- Seraglio and Baghdad, if I'm remembering correctly (rose and my skin apparently do not get along). Also, sadly, almond doesn't work for me, so Queen of Sheba was a no go. So, to summarize, anyone have suggestions for a spicy, warm scent that would fit with dancing but that doesn't include rose, too much musk or almond? Tall order, I know, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Oh, I've recently discovered I love Tushnamatay, and it's in the right family of scents, I think, but it's too subtle for what I'm looking for. TIA!
  17. I've not tried Hellion, but in reviews of Nahemoth, a few folks have compared the two. Actually a few people have compared Nahemoth to a Snake Charmer/Hellion combo. I'm all over the Snake Charmer likeness, which I totally get. Nahemoth is beautiful and might be worth a try.
  18. Portalkat -- it's been a while since I tried Manila, but The Hanging Gardens is also fruits and lush plants to my nose, like Manila. I think they might have a similar vibe.

    Tweedledum

Wonderful fruity scent -- not too sweet, with a touch of tang. It reminds me a bit of Chanel Chance. I think I might be wearing this a lot this summer!
  20. Anyone have any thoughts on GC scents similar to Underpants? A combination of Antique Lace and Morocco has been mentioned, but neither of those works on me, separately or together. But I LOVE Underpants. I wondered if any of the scents that don't have notes listed might POSSIBLY be similar. Any thoughts? Puhleese let there be one... ;-)

    Shanghai

I don't have much to say about this one that hasn't already been said, but I LOVE it. The green tea gives it a refreshing bite and also somehow a soothing vibe, the lemon makes it sparkle, and the honeysuckle keeps it a little sweeter than some of the other scents with green tea. It also lasts longer than I might have expected. I just feel this "aura" of calm cheerfulness when I wear it. Definitely a fave for this spring and summer.

    Monster Bait: Underpants

I've been wanting a sandalwood/vanilla blend and ... this is it! It's slightly sweet, but as has been said, the sandalwood grounds it really well. Antique Lace doesn't work on me, so I'm greatly relieved that this smells different to me. Someone compared this to Morocco, and I agree, except that this is what I WANTED Morocco to smell like on me. I can't tell if it was the saffron or the musk that went wonky on my skin with Morocco, but whichever it was, Underpants hits the balance just right. LOVE it. Wish I had dared to order two.

    Obatala

Oh my, the loveliness of this one. Milk notes are hit or miss on me, so I never thought much about Milk Moon, but apparently I might have loved it. In any case, Obatala may be my new summer signature scent. Soft, subtle, light but creamy, and on me it has amazing staying power. I smell tantalizing wafts of it as I type, and yet it was last night I applied it. The coconut makes it a little fruity, the milk makes it a bit comforting, and I guess it's the shea that makes it the tiniest bit fresh. I LOVE it and will anxiously await my 5ml.

    Springtime scents

Ooh, I'm getting all sorts of ideas for new scents to try!

    Springtime scents

Had to bump this one to see if anyone had some new springtime favorites they're wearing now that it really is spring. It still doesn't FEEL like spring in my neck of the woods, and I'm thinking a new springy scent would really help my mood. Anyone wearing something they're just LOVING for spring?
