In the imp, I smell verbena, coconut and fig or plum. On the skin, the verbena stands out most prominently. The fig and/or plum show themselves a bit and add a roundness and depth to this scent. There’s a sharpness here that I’m not sure is only attributable to the verbena. This is pretty, but the verbena is sooooo strong. I don’t generally care for lemon scents but I’m liking this one more than I would have thought. After this has been on a while, the fig and plum become much more prominent, and the coconut makes a reappearance. Now the verbena is only a light tartness in the background. I like this stage much more and now this smells purple, and makes me think of Purple Phoenix even though they do smell very different. I like this scent a lot but I’m not sure that I’d wear it much.

In the imp, this is super sweet guava bubble gum. On the skin, wow! Guava bubble gum indeed. This smells like candy, the spun sugar is really making itself known. There’s a sharpness here that could be the pepper - the scent has a bite. This is a light hearted, fun, fruity scent that brings to mind sunny, summer days, warm breezes and lush green grass (but there’s no grass smell here). This does remind me of Fruit Moon or Kunstkammer.

In the imp: boozy, woody resins On the skin: Once applied it still smells like boozy, woody resins. I think I’m smelling the labdanum strongly. There’s a hint of sweetness here. After it’s been on a few minutes, it seems to deepen and richen. I can best describe it as deep, dark sexy. It reminds me of an expensive perfume. This is gorgeous – polished wood & deep incense. The red rose seems more blacked to me. This whole scent seems black or a very deep brown to me. Because it’s so dark, I think a man could pull this scent off just as well as a woman.

In the bottle this smells purple, a floral-fruity with maybe a nudge towards grapes. Once applied the myrrh comes out and adds to the fruity-floral. I have a hard time identifying notes or describing this scent. As it wears it remains a fruity-floral underlain with resins. The myrrh adds a hint of powdery-dryness to the scent. I can discern a bit of the lilac here but it’s well mixed with the other florals and blends well with the fruits. This scent has a dignity about it – it’s not a sexy throw me down kind of scent, it’s much more regal and dignified. This brings to mind a strong, austere, powerful woman with upswept hair, heels, a wrap dress and fur. This is lovely.

In the bottle this smells of amber, leather and musk. Amazing. Once applied it smells even better. There a hint of evergreen overlain with the amber, leather and musk. There’s smoke but this is mainly amber and leather. This scent is very masculine but works just as well on a woman. This is such a sexy scent. Mind blowing sex kind of a scent. It stays soft, close to the skin. This is a scent for lovers and maybe even flirtations. You need to be close to catch it. It really would smell amazing on a man. If a man smelled like this I’d have to be very careful. I love this scent.

In the bottle, this smells mainly of aquatics. It has a hint of that fresh note that’s in Whippoorwill and I think also in Holiday Moon. Maybe it’s bamboo. Once applied it smells aquatic and masculine. It’s slightly sweet. It reminds me of a man’s cologne. I’m not a real fan of aquatics and this isn’t changing that. It smells expensive and fresh. It’s well created (I wanted to write well done but that makes me think of steak – I must be hungry). This is really quite nice but not my style. As it wears it become more green and still retains that freshness. I think that it is bamboo and it’s really coming out now. This is a medium lasting scent on me.

From round two (Jan 2006). On the skin – wet – dry dusty chocolate, tang of orange. It reminds me more of milk chocolate than white chocolate. I didn’t review 13 the first time it came out, but in comparison they are, as would be expected, very similar. The re-release seems a bit more like milk chocolate whereas the original was more white. I also don’t remember the dusty dry smell but that’s probably associated with the milk chocolate smell. This really does smell like a Cadbury chocolate orange ball. After its been on a while, it smells a bit like chocolate sandalwood. Sweet, slightly woody, smooth, edible and delicious. Very nice.

2005 In the bottle, this is all sugar with a hint of fruits and booze. Once applied the sugar comes on full force. The slight fruitiness lightens the sugar. This is super strong, long lasting with good throw. As it wears it becomes yummy caramel sugar. 2006 Very similar to the 2005. But this one is a bit fruitier, the booze is pretty much lost and there’s a hint of spice in the background. Also long lasting and STRONG. Yum. I really like them both.

I've been switching scents a lot mid-day lately and Christmas was no exception. In the morning, I wore a combination of Snake Oil, Dana O'Shee and Aureus. It's just such a perfect combination and puts me in a happy festive mood everytime I wear it. Later in the day I switched to Snake Charmer, my other "I can't get enough of this smell", perfect-any-time scent. At night I switched to Snow White, so beautiful, calming and soothing. For New Years I haven't decided. I'll probably go with Snake Charmer as it's just about the perfect scent for any occassion and my absolute favorite. And it's special enough to do justice to any occassion.

the last of this package of the CT III swap MCCCIX (1309) Hmm. This one is interesting. It’s a bit foody and smells a bit buttery in the imp. Once applied, there’s a hint of butter, some lemon. There’s some similarity to Midway but it’s not sweet like Midway is sweet. Maybe it’s the butter that brought Midway to mind. There’s an herbal touch here too. It’s almost like a lemon butter cookie but not quite. The herbal elements in here take it out of the realm of a gourmand scent. I think there’s a light musk and this would a wonderful scent for warm weather. It’s screaming out for warm skin. While this scent is great trying it now, I think that in warm weather it would “bloom”. After it’s been on a while, the light musk really comes out. It’s the same musk I get from Buck Moon. This is a **wonderful** scent. MV (1005): This is said to smell like a Sharpie. It’s a little fruitier than a Sharpie but the similarity is definitely there! Once applied to the skin, the fruit comes out more. Cherry or almond to be precise. It’s very, very strong. There’s something in here that reminds me of the Voodoo oils, an herbal, bitter quality. There’s something almost animalistic to this scent, I wonder if there’s civet in here. Anise too. Yeah, this smells like a Voodoo oil. This scent is compelling. I don’t really care for it, but I keep sniffing my hand to try to figure out the layers and elements of it. Now it reminds me a bit of Queen. I’m liking it a bit more. Or maybe it’s just because I can’t stop sniffing myself. I don’t know, but I’m amazed at how much this scent has changed. This scent is a real morpher. Both last reviewed by roesmoker.

from the CT III circlular swap MCCLIL (1252) In the imp, this reminded me a bit of an old fashioned commercial perfume. Once applied, that vibe still reminds. It’s oh so slightly musky, in that non-BPAL musk kinda way. It’s very soft and subtle, slightly powdery. This brings to mind powdered skin, smooth, soft, pale, with blue veins. Ah, it’s a soft, soft amber. This scent is a bit too soft for me. And it disappears on me in about 20 minutes tops. I guess that’s a good thing as this scent is not for me. CCCXLVIL (348) In the imp this smells mainly of lavender and carnation. On the skin, the soft spicy floral combination caused by the lavender and carnation remains. It’s slightly herbal, not super sweet but floral and feminine all the same. It reminds me of a fresh dewy garden. Maybe just after a rainstorm, or before one it about to begin. I really enjoy floral scents like this. It’s in the same scent family as Sleepy Moon. Much different but a similar feel. The spice of the carnation seems like it could be augmented by a pepper of some kind. Oh wait, now it smells like there could be a touch of rose in here. Hmm. I’ve only ever liked rose in about 2 scents and it has totally changed my feelings about this blend. I was really liking it before it showed up.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?
cranberry replied to Absinthe's topic in Recommendations
cordia - at first I didn't think they were similar at all. but sniffing them in the bottlles there are definite similarities, but they remain distinct and are not scent twins in the least. they are most similar when first applied and get more and more different as they dry down. after they've been on a while they really don't smell anything alike. treat 1 is sweeter and more candy-like. it also smells like there could be white musk in the background, while Fruit Moon is all fruit, tropical fruit. it doesn't have that extreme sweetness that treat 1 has and just feels deeper. -
more from the CTIII sniffing circle CCXCV (295) In the imp, this smells of lime and either juniper, sage or pine, or a some sorta mix. Once applied, juniper, lime and sweetness. This is wonderfully refreshing. Once it’s been on a while, there’s a light, sweet musk as well as cedar. I’ve smelled some other CTIIIs similar to this, but a little heavier on the lime and lighter on that “winter” note. In sum, this is a refreshing, herbal, woody type scent. Totally unisex, or perhaps even tending more towards the masculine, as there is very little sweetness to the scent. I like this one, I like a lot. CCLXXIX (279) Initially, this is all florals. Definitely lotus, maybe honeysuckle. There’s a light musk in the background. I think there’s also ylang ylang. It reminds me a bit of an Aveda scent, not any one in particular, but instead it has a similar flavor. It has a bit of a fruity aspect. After it’s been on a while, there’s an almost minty quality to this scent, and the musk comes out more. The best way to describe it is a floral Snowflakes. This is a beautiful scent and if I had an imp, I would enjoy it to the fullest. addendum: after testing 402, it makes me realize this is a soft, subtle floral scent (even at the beginning when the florals are most prominent). CDII (402) If the last CTIII I tested (#279) was all florals, well this is florals on steroids. These florals are strong. I think gardenia, perhaps a drop of peach. After a minute, the gardenia gets a bit sharp, but that’s often characteristic of gardenia on my skin. This is a really strong, knock-your-socks-off type of scent. If you put a lot on, it would leave a huge scent trail and probably make you pass out the scent would be so overwhelming. And I can tell this is a scent that will last, a long, long time. All three scents last reviewed by roesmoker.

DCXCVII (697) Damn, this smells so familiar but I’m having a hard time placing it. In the imp, the closest I can come is cherries with maybe a touch of wine. On the skin, cherries is as good a guess as I can come up with. It’s still super familiar and this is going to drive me crazy. I think there’s a drop of bitter grass in here. As it wears, it softens and the scents meld together. There could be a touch of a mid-range musk in here, I’m thinking Egyptian but it could be a vanilla musk There’s a similarity to Lucretia and to the musk in Snake Charmer. I think there’s vanilla in here too. It’s a rich, warm, sensual scent in the vein of an exotic oriental. Damn, the longer this wears the better it smells. I wish I had a bottle of this. This is a kissing cousin to Nahemoth from the Qliphoth and Lucredia from the Salon (minus the iris). Yum. Previously reviewed by roesmoker.

MCC (1200) In the imp the main thing I get is honey. A touch of fruit. On the skin, the honey is the main scent. Strong, strong honey. The honey gives this a foody aspect and makes it smell good enough to eat. A touch of tropical fruit too. After a few minutes, there’s rose too, which comes out more as it dries. Last reviewed by supremegoddessofall. MLXXXI (1081) In the imp, bitter flowers, maybe neroli. Oh yeah, it’s neroli all right. On the skin, it remains sweet, bitter flowers. It’s really quite pretty and I’m liking this one a lot. Previously reviewed by roesmoker.

from the CTIII circle MXCIII (1093) In the imp, this smell spicy and hot. I would swear that there’s cassia or cinnamon in here based on the first sniff. On the skin, now it smells like fruit and red musk. After a second the spice comes in and it just smells hot. Maybe it’s ginger. This is quite nice and perfect for winter. There could be a touch of cherry in here. This reminds me a bit of Blood Moon but without the deep, deep musk. After this has been on a while, there’s a floral element that emerges. Overall impression is that this a warm, glowing red scent. Last reviewed by roesmoker CCXXII (222) In the imp, there’s earth, musk and moss. Maybe a drop of vetivert. On the skin, this reminds me a bit of Vechernyaya (without the poppy), musk and something earthy. I think there’s a tobacco in here too. As this wears it becomes really woody, and brings to mind cedar and definitely vetivert. The light musk is still present as is the tobacco. At this stage it reminds me of Jupiter. I like this one a lot. Last reviewed by supremegoddessofall

Once applied, this is a soft, pretty floral. It has a deep feel to it that is slightly spicy and husky. The rose is soft and pretty, and the resins and musk add an appealing depth to this scent. I’m liking this a lot but I don’t need another floral. But this is very well done and those that don’t like many florals may very well like this one.

In the imp, spicy dragon’s blood. Once applied, wow this is strong and has some throw! I only put a drop on and it’s overpowering and I can smell it strongly. There’s dragon’s blood, pine, a touch of pepper. It’s spicy and hot smelling, with a touch of sweetness. As it wears the sweetness becomes stronger when sniffed close, but from afar it’s still mainly spicy, hot dragon’s blood. This is the softer, floral dragon’s blood out there, with hints of lilac. This is a wonderful dragon’s blood blend.

In the imp, the best description for this is subdued. But, Wow, once applied I get a hint of moss and then wham, wintergreen. It reminds me of Ben Gay sports rub and chewing gum. I was expecting something really complex; with elements of flowers, moss, the forest floor, evergreen and that wonderful BPAL snow/ice note. As it dried, the Ben Gay note backs off a bit (but it’s still strongly there), and there’s a touch of sweetness and raspberry leaf. The florals are coming out, but they are icy and frozen. Now this is turning really pretty and more of what I was expecting. For some reason it smells a bit edible to me. I just don’t know that I can get over the initial blast. It’s a faint scent and not long lasting. (edited for spelling)

In the bottle and once applied, this is a soft, musky mint. It reminds me of Tulzcha. I’m not sure what the notes are, but perhaps spearmint or wintermint. There’s a slightly aquatic, watery feel to the mint, tempering it. As it dries, oh my God, there’s my beloved Snow White! It’s not quite exact, but a kissing cousin for sure. It’s like Tulzcha and Snow White mated and this is their child. There’s that light, sweet musk with the lily that is just so beautiful, creamy and smooth. The mint makes it more suitable for summer or warmer weather, while Snow White is perfect for winter. It’s rather ironic that it’s named Snowflakes, yet will be so perfect for those warmer days. But the 2 scents are a great way to compliment the seasons. I adore this scent and need to get more before it goes poof.

I mainly bought a bottle of this because it’s my birth month, and you have to get your birth month. But I really wasn’t sure – all of the florals had me a bit scared. But, it was my birth month, plus reading Beth’s comment that it was velvety had me sold. In the bottle, it’s a sweet floral, slightly fruity. Once applied, oh my God, this is beautiful. It’s a slightly watery scent, a soft, sweet, gentle floral. It’s very soothing and comforting. Kindly is such an appropriate name for this moon. The combination of sandalwood and blue musk with the stargazer lily, moonflower and other elements in this scent takes it well beyond the standard floral scent. This is soft, and glowing , watery without going aquatic. If blue musk is responsible, then I may just follow blue musk to the ends of the earth, it’s that beautiful. Velvety is an apt description. I’m so glad that I got 2 bottles of this.

In the imp, this smells sweet, fresh, juicy, fruit and tart On the skin, this is tart and sweet, almost like a sweet glass of limeade but with a different citrus fruit. It’s juicy, fresh and such a perfect scent for summer. There’s hints of green and clean, clear musk. It has a bit of a fizzy quality to it. It’s complex and hard for me to describe, other than I love this scent and I think it’s really one of the most unique blends. There’s a touch of spice which must be the ginger. After its been on a while, the sandalwood becomes a bit more distinct, mixing wonderfully with the vanilla, sugar and citrus. It gets deeper as it wears, while remaining sweet and fresh. And such a happy smelling scent. It’s an amazing combination of scents and they all meld so well. Fantastic.

This is all lovely apples on me. It reminds me strongly of the other apple scents in the catalog – Verdandi and Hesperides, both of which I liked quite a bit. As it wears, it’s still very similar to my nose (which admittedly is a bit screwy due to this cold I have). Verdandi is a bit softer and rounder, while this is a bit more tart. The cranberries must be amping up a bit. It would smell fabulous in a burner, body wash or lotion. I don’t know that I need a bottle because I’ve got Verdandi already and several imps of Hesperides. Great for the season though.

In the imp: ohh, cherries. On the skin: sweet cherries, maybe a bit like Ludens. Now there’s some almonds. As it wears, I can smell lotus and jasmine, tempering the cherries/almonds. There’s a touch of spiciness here and it’s very warm smelling. There could be a touch of dragon’s blood here too. After it’s been on a bit, it’s best described as warm, resinous and spicy. Yum.
