  1. The Millers' Daughter: this has that "rainy day in a barn" feeling to me. It does smell metallic and tangy in the bottle but when I have this on it is soft rosy amber with just a twinge of the metallic (the gold) that makes it a winner for me. My bottle is over a year old now and it has aged so nicely. The throw on this is moderate and it has long wear length, at least for me. Very evocative of the story.

  2. Geez, I thought I did a review for this forever ago!

In the bottle Miskatonic University smells like Cheddar Popcorn. Straight up. It throws me off a little. However, once applied it smells like warm irish cream coffee. Actually more like warm, irish cream coffee cake. It's pretty scrumptious. Makes me want to eat Irish cream coffee cake in a library.

  3. Gothic Horror....I had to have this just for the concept of it.

In the bottle its VERY dusty and incensey to my nose, but when I wear it, it turns sweeter and boast as Ysabel becaause it evokes that same velvet - dress smell to me. Pretty good staying power, mild throw. I like it!

  4. I recieved this as a swap and I was pretty psyched to slather it all over myself. It's about 90 degrees here in ol' VT today so I want to walk around smelling like egg nogg!

In the bottle: rich, potent brandy cream and nutmeg. This definately smells like real egg nogg!

Wet on skin: sugary, creamy nutmeg. Warm and enveloping...

Dry on skin: some of the spice, not really much of the cream left. My skin seems to eat this up, much like it does with Lait De Chevre. I can't wait to put this in an oil diffuser!!!!!! Insta xmas.

  5. You know, My first intro to Snake Oil was when we first got stock to sell at the store. I really didn't care for it then and was under the impression that it was pretty overrated compared to the other oils that I had sniffed and tried. That was June of 2008. Even about a month ago I was like, yeah yeah Snake Oil whatever. And then my Bats Day Angel sent me a carded imp of it with my bottles from the event. And then I dabbed some of that imp on.

Holy god, I am now enamored with this stuff! I haven't paid this much attention to an imp in a long time. First it smells a tad medicinal herbish with vanilla, then it morphs to rich vanilla spice and then finally to this warm, vanilla sugar powder smell. It is soooo good. I need to buy a bottle but I hesitate because I think I like fresh Snake Oil better than aged! ( as I tried some out of the tester we have that is the sane tester we've had for 2 years) and I don't like it quite as much as the stuff in my imp. Maybe I will just need to constantly order imps of it. Does that make me a freak? It might, but I don't care. Cause my imp makes me smell damn good. I apologize to you, almighty Snake Oil! I did not believe in your immense awsomeness but now I'm a believer!

  6. Romanti Goth is like a smokier, heady-er Velvet Dogs Playing Poker to my nose. Actually I feel like if I put VDPP on and then put a little bit of Gothic Horror over that it would be similiar to Romanti Goth. And yet Romanti Goth is soft, comforting and lush with a little bit of sass. This has crazy staying power, I put this on before I went to bed last night and when I woke up I still smelled like it. This would be an amazing smell on a boy. Soooo goood :wub2:

  7. I haven't tried this on yet but just smelling it out of the bottle puts a smile of my face. VERY bubbly and efervescent! a combo of sprite and mountain dew. I will add to this once I actually put it on.

ETA: this is very bubbly when first applied and then it fades to this creamy, musky citrus. It's very interesting, I'm not sure how often I will wear this but the novelty of it makes it a keeper for now :)

  8. Auuuggghhh! I love this!! It's so good....*melts into puddle*

in the bottle: cherry tootsie pops.

On skin: initially the cherry is there, damn this smells like this cherry vanilla cream soda that my mom used to buy my brother and I when we were kids. The cherry fades into the background a d it becomes a lightly musky, sweet cream smell. Seriously, this is probably in my top ten list of BPAL's now. I shall treasure my bottle! Thank you bat's day angel!!!!

  9. Sachs is one of those rare BPAL's that I don't like in the bottle but smells better on me. In the bottle, it just smells like sage and I really don't like the smell of sage. Today I decided to actually try it in and it's ok. The chamomile is definately dominant with the vanilla barely being present. It's nice but not really what I had hoped for. Perhaps I will try it layered with Violens...

  10. The label art on this bottle is so awsome! The Velvets look like a clique of popular 80's chicks in high school (kinda think Heathers!)

When I sniff it from the bottle it has the same kind of bite that Black Temple Burlesque Troop does, only softer. I am guessing it is a similar dark musk note.

When I put this on, its soft dark musk and powder. The violet is apparent and I think its the amber that gives it the powdery note. The Velvets is both comforting and yet unnerving at the same time, true to the characters in my opinion. Elegant yet evil!

If you like I died for Beauty and/or Black Temple Burlesque Troop, seek out some of this to try. I am stoked to add this to my Gaiman scents on my dresser :) its great in the locket as well.

  11. Bette is juicy, smoky and sweet. Smells clean and bright when first applied but gets darker as she settles. I don't have many scents with orange blossom in them so I can definately pick that out. I totally love this!

  12. I have finally procured a bottle of this! its so fizzy strawberry, sparkling gin and tonic when sniffed out of the bottle. I think this belongs in Willy Wonka's factory :D

I was afraid when I put this on it would smell like an icky cosmolpolitan but thankfully no! its sweet and creamy and light with a great throw. People have been saying I smell like strawberry shortcake all day LOL.

  13. Mist and dewy roses, aspen leaves, and translucent yellow blossoms.

I'm kind of surprised there arnt more reviews for this beautiful scent...
I totally smell honeysuckle in this. It's warm, glowing, ethereal honeysuckle in a secret garden in the middle of a forest. I never get rose, but it could be because it's blended so well with the other florals. I can see that this would have a tendancy to maybe get cologney on some people but not
me. I really like this and am glad I have it as part of my collection :)

  14. Definately a misty, hazy, warm rain scent..makes me think of when it rains and is sunny at the same time and then rainbows happen :) I love how Beth and co. are able to bottle LA weather!

I am surprised at how much I like this. The flowers are just ever so slightly in the background so it's not overly floral, which is nice. I guess I like anything Juneish since I am a June baby !

  15. On me, Hope is Peacock Queen with crystallized sugar. Sweet rose with sparkling sugar..it doesn't change and I can smell it forever. This kind of rose is hard for me to commit to wearing on a regular basis, I think I prefer the muskier rose smells above the sweet ones. But Hope is pretty and I will wear her once in awhile.

  16. I just got this in a swap yesterday and was very excited about that.

Ichabod's description is spot on to my nose. I can pick out all of those elements, especially the tea with cream and the candle drippings. Interestingly enough, this smells like the baby brother of Hand of Glory to me. I almost smell rose in here too although I am not sure if its really rose or just the combo of something that does....the drydown is soft with just a little kick. I really like Mr. Crane and I am glad he is a part of my collection now :)

  17. Velvet Dogs Playing Poker is my fave for pipe tobacco. You should look at the reviews in the limited section and see if you like how it sounds, you can always put out an ISO for it :)

also Herr Drosselmeyer...I've never smelled it but it sounds great!

  18. I love this so much.

I definately agree with previous posts that there is a distinct similarity between Female and Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, they share that same sweet, creamy vanilla tone. But with the leather mixed in? Perfect. It does smell a tad earthy, I think the Tonka grounds the other notes in this. This is sexy, warm, smokey and alluring. Pretty decent staying power too. It's going to be hard to hoard this but I am going to try to get a backup bottle when possible.

  19. For Beaver'Versary!

Foodie scent of my dreams! my heart is content at last with this super-delicious-creamy-cream cheese-cupcake-frosting goodness.

Smells the same on my skin as it does in the bottle and then about 1 hour later turns into vanilla extract scent.

I am so happy right now :wub2:

Thank you to the two forum members that enabled me to have a decant and a bottle of this !

  20. Dang! ultra dirt!!! with a creamy vanilla type scent mixed in. This reminds me of something......ummmm...oh! this coconut incense I used to burn in my bedroom when I was a teenager. Hooray for nostalgia! and it stays on me for hours! most of the time the dirt element just fades out fast but not this. So happy I have found a Garden smell that I can actually wear :)

  21. :thud: EXQUISITE.

This was one of the Lupers' that I was seriously anticipating the awsome of and it is, teh awsome.

In the bottle it smells like fresh creamy beeswax with a soft smoky undertone. A hint of the wine is apparent but just barely.

On me it is soft, smokey and sweet...actually very similar to White Rose from last years BPTP offerings. I can't get over the sweet creamyness of the beeswax! it blends seamlessley with the rose (think rose in Knave of Hearts rose) and the frankincense. I get no wine on my skin whatsoever but I am ok with that. I would've have been ok either way really.

The Saint stays on for a good like time too. The label art is pretty great with the little statue in the back as well ;)
