Scents for Depression - when you're down and need a boost
MichelleM replied to aurore's topic in Recommendations
Blockbuster always works wonders for me - there's something bright and uplifting about the smell, and when you combine that with the idea behind the oil, you can't lose! -
Frumious Bandersnatch and Titania are the oils that I most associate with purple.

Squeeeeee!!!! I want a fluffy turtle!!! That's the cutest thing EVAR!!!! So... do you have an etsy shop or something similar?

My peony moon order just arrived and I had to try this one on first - the label is STUNNING!! And very fitting to the oil. This one is very in-your-face Peony when first applied - it screams Hot Pink Floral, but it calms down very quickly to a lighter, softer pink as the other elements (mostly water reeds and dry woods at this stage) balance and soften it. I think I'm beginning to smell the plum blossom now. When it first goes on it's like sticking your nose into a peony bud, but after a few minutes, it's like being in a room with a vase of fresh cut flowers. You get light wafts of the fragrance, and you are very aware of being in the room with fresh flowers. Overall, it's really a beautiful blend. It's a very rich, fresh, spring-like floral.

I find Dorian to be very sugary lemon, and a light soft vanilla, and Morocco and Antique Lace are very similar on me - all three of those are light, soft vanillas. If I'm looking for something that is Vanilla, but stronger and heavier, I definitely go for Snake Oil or Regan. I find O to be heavy on the honey note on me, but your mileage may vary with every oil.

Floral Recs for those who usually don't like florals

I'd recommend Asphodel. To me it's the perfect light, very white floral. All I get from it is this mental image of beautiful, soft, white flowers. -
Spice me, baby! The spiciest BPAL blends
MichelleM replied to Orodemniades's topic in Recommendations
I'm going to have to second Bengal and Al-Sharain. They are fabulous, and if you loved Silk Road, you will love them. Bengal is what I was hoping for from Silk Road - Bengal is much more spicier and warm without being dry the way Silk Road was on me. -
When your favorite GC blends are discontinued

I'm trying out Old Morocco for the first time, and it is strikingly similar to Antique Lace to my nose. -
Best BPALs for SUMMER - is it hot, sweltering, sticky outside?

I'm tossing in my .02 cents for Baobhan Sith, Szepasszony, Sea of Glass, and Swank. -
Sexy, Smutty, Seductive, Provocative... It's All in Here

I know! Temperance of all things!!! The funny thing is that I can hardly smell it on me - I think it's one of those second skin type scents on me, but he can smell it and adores it. I think it's sort of like me, only better. -

I finally found the one that elicits an amorous response from my boyfriend... Tarot: Temperance. Needless to say, I'm getting a bigger bottle of this stuff! I love having a secret weapon! -
When I sniffed Centzon Totochtin, I was reminded of that syrupy smell that you get right when you walk into a Starbucks. I'm not sure if it has any coffee notes, but it smelled like pure coffee shop to me.

I have to confess - when I smelled this one in the bottle, I was afraid of it. I actually put it down and didn't come back to it for 2 days. The buttery scent was incredibly strong and overwhelming in the bottle, and I had *almost* decided to trade it just because of how it smelled in the bottle. But I hate to trade anything without at least trying it once, since I'm well aware of how scents morph based on individual chemistry. So I tried it. Almost immediately, I noticed the buttery note backing down and becoming less in-your-face butteryness. The lunar oils that identify the lunar blends started to poke through, and the buttery-ness became a soft white vanilla floral that is very innocent and sweet. I am really starting to love this blend - it's got the strength of the lunar oils, but is totally softened by the other notes in the blend. This one is definitely worth trying folks - I'm holding onto my bottle, and am incredibly glad that I bought it!

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
MichelleM replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
I've never really been allergic to anything, so I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff. I had a burning, slightly itching reaction to Wrath, but I have no problems with Dragon's Blood, Inferno, or Chimera. Could I be allergic to the black pepper in it? I've eaten black pepper and never had an issue with it. Is it worth me trying to figure out if I have a problem with something in this oil, or should I just assume that it is simply Wrath that I have a problem with (the combination or concentrations in this particular oil)? I want to try Wrath again, but I'm somewhat afraid of the possibility of making an allergy worse. Has anyone ever had a reaction that was a "fluke", i.e. you don't know why it happened and it didn't happen again? You guys know a lot more than I do about these things - what would you advise? -
I don't think Moon Rose has been mentioned yet, but to me it's the perfect, soft, light rose scent. Floral but light at the same time, which is very spring-like to me. But I haven't smelled Red Rose yet, so I don't know if it's more or less spring-y than that.
