  1. I saw this thread and really wanted to recommend some favorites that sprang to mind immediately, but really ya'll have already covered it all! Ivanushka is my favorite =) Wolf Moon might be a little animally, but really its just slushy snow with an animal name =) 04 anyway I havent tried them, but I hear that Hunter Moon and Buck Moon are very animal. You could say Schrodingers Cat embodies the multiple personality of cats Dove's Heart really did have the calm, pretty, "feel" of a dove - it felt like that sound they make Wolf's Heart didn't give me the animal feeling, just the name =( Hetairae made me feel very slinky, catlike

    Debauchery

This was disturbingly CLEAN on my skin. I didn't have anyone smell of it to be sure, but all I smelled was the crystalline Egyptian musk, and the hazy opium. This was like crystal on me, very pretty. It made me wonder if I just don't smell musk, and I'm afraid to actually wear this - in case others smell the dreaded civet when I don't. I may try it and have someone sniff me (eta: much much later -- Im still afraid to even test this one, but I have the URGE to retest because of the smell I remember. I may have to keep an imp around after all)

    Sugar Skull

2008 version I smell mostly brown sugar, but some hints of the fruit, in a dry way if thats possible.
  4. Habu is my favorite of them so far - followed closely by Temple Viper and Australian Copperhead =) Snake Oil, I'm not that fond of by itself. edit to add: I tried Banded Sea Snake and Cottonmouth =) so I decided to also rank hehe 1. Habu (teh love) 2. Banded Sea Snake (lurve) 3. Cottonmouth (clean love) 4. Temple Viper (sugar love) 5. Aussie Copperhead (fruity love) 6. Boomslang (choc love, need to retest) 7. Asp Viper (almond love at first) 8. Death Adder (want to try) 10. Saw Scaled Viper (havent tried) 11. Black Mamba (havent tried) 12. Anaconda (who knows?) 13. Coral Snake (meh) 14. Green Tea Viper (no thanks) 15. Western Diamondback (didn't like)

    The Brides of Dracula

I wore this today, fairly heavy because I've been experimenting with throw. No comments on it, unless I requested them, but all that were requested were positive =) This is a very unusual floral type smell. It's definitely honey-sweet, a bit of spice. It's also very subtle, but the skin musks usually are on me. The amber darkens it a bit, or enriches it maybe, to keep things interesting =)

    The Snow Maiden

I agree with the other reviews that said this is a warm scent. I'm having a hard time placing what I smell. There is a bit of the snow, but then its... almost foody on? Not sweet, or baked exactly, or spicy... but maybe the wierd amber thing that others have noted -- amber goes very rich on me sometimes. Really, I'd say that this is like a snowy Mouse's Tale -- at least on my skin! Adore. Crave.

    Peacocks

I can't place what I smell, but I can say its - not.for.me. - I think I smell bamboo and candied pear or something, which sounds lovely, but... I'm not sure why this doesn't work on me. Maybe its the violet combining with something... Its sharp and sweet and sour at the same time. edit: I will admit that after it dries, this is gorgeous =) Im just not sure I can put up with the wet stage

    Snow White

I finalyl got the chance to try this one - and unfortunately.... I love it. It definitely has almond on me, which is a *good* thing . I can just barely smell some bitter mint under it, but its mostly hiding. I wouldn't have known this was meant to be a "winter" scent until I read the reviews. I get creamy, white, almondy, love. Now, HTH am I going to find a bottle!! Looking at the dates, this gets brought back almost once a year. I will absolutely buy a bottle when it does.
  9. Dorian Love's Philosophy Tamora and maybe Mouse's ... Tale

    Mad Kate

From such a dark painting - this is a remarkably pretty scent! I think I mainly smell gardenia and freesia, as its very fresh. There might be just a hint of vanilla there warming it up. I don't think I get anything fruity, but there is something buried in there that *might* be currant. I like it, but I think freesia isn't quite for me. Makes it too bright or something.

    Recs for Longest Lasting Oils

longest on me so far: Bien Loin d'ici (lemme think a bit and I'll come to try to update a couple more)
  12. my favorite hot weather one is Wensleydale, or Dirty which is similar but not quite as perfect =) Based on your rec request, I'd also suggest Yemaya. (a bounty of melons and grapes, strewn with the petals of the flowers of motherhood, draped with sea mosses) I'd also second the Torture Queen request. Habu gives me a very fresh vibe too, and maybe Temple Viper.

    Judith Victorious

I'm strangely intrigued by this one =) I thought it was odd that it smelled foody at first, until I read over the reviews again here. Obviously, I'm not alone in that impression. It stays warm, the foodiness fades a bit but keeps it's warm and slightly creamy nature. I smell the floral underneath, which comes across white and clean to my nose. I'm guessing I smell the magnolia and lily, but they aren't strong enough to tell me what floral they are specifically. I can't pick either out. I like this one though =) Complicated. ADDED 11/27/09: Sounds like I'm one of the few whp loves this. I do get a foody chestnut, but it doesn't overwhelm the fragrance. I get the very warm musk and a cool floral, not heavy magnolia so it must be the lily of the valley. I dont get any mandarin at all. This to me is very sophisticated without being generic perfume at all. And maybe its just the name, but wearing this oil gives me a bit of rawr inside =) I wore it to Thanksgiving at the in-laws, with BOTH families yesterday! It was like my secret strength.

    Pickled Imp

Quite a bit like Chimera to my nose, but too heavy on cinnamon for me (and for hubby)
  15. I think Green Phoenix and Mock Turtle's Lessons are very similar

    Rain Scents

Having tested extensively now - and still missed quite a few (like storm moon!) - I'd like to say that my favorite rain scents, storm scents are: Lightning and Thunderbird. Lightning is almost all ozone to my nose, but still lovely, just a tad of the sweet water notes. Thunderbird is softer, sweeter, more rainstorm and less pure lightning. I love it and consider my search for rain a success at this point =)

    Thunderbird

Wakinyan, Hohoq, Kw-Uhnx-Wa. With eyes of fire, its glance is lightning, and thunder erupts as the great, sacred bird claps its mighty wings. A willing guardian and protector of mankind, a wise and benevolent teacher, and the creator of life-giving storms. The sharp tang of ozone and the deep bass growl of thunder over mountain trees. Got my hands on about half a bottle of this, in my quest for the perfect rain scent. I think this may be it, for me at least. WHile I do really like Lightning, this is softer and sweeter, more outdoor. Lightning is almost all ozone to me, which i still love, but it wasn't rainstorm. This is soft sweet ozony, wet - very rainy. There was a fleeting moment about 10 minutes after I put it on of some strange plant note - I wasn't familiar with it at all, but it passed. I was worried, but now I'm sold =) I'd like to see this released again for all us rain people =)

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I tried Burberry Brit again recently - and I love it even more now. I think its because my nose is more educated These are the notes - what would you recommend? Top Notes: Italian Lime, Icy Pear, Crisp Green Almond. Middle Notes: Sugared Almond, White Peony. Base Notes: Amber, Mahogany, Vanilla, Tonka.

What BPAL would this fictional character wear?

You're right - she should go goggles maybe - I was taking sweet, innocent smells
  20. jizatt

    A Ginger ale scent?

I'm seconding Kumiho - it had the sharp sweet ginger part, but maybe not the bubbles. Sudha Segara was more creamy on me though.

  22. I tried Manila today to be sure - and I think its very similar. Straight from the vial I got crazy banana, but not on my skin. its warmer, almost but not spicy. I think it would be a good match =) I don't like foody, but I do like fruity!
  23. Ok I went to smell it, because I too am a curly girl I still smell the tropical thing, creamy, floral, soft, mebbe fruity a bit. The Tikis all smell like cocktail drinks to me, so in my mind they're out - except maybe Tiki Queen. my top recs: Machu Piccu - Sweet tropical fruits burst through deep, wet rainforest boughs, enormous steamy blossoms, over thin mountaintop breezes, mingled with the soft, rich golden scent of Peruvian amber (trop fruity) Manila - A tropical, humid, lush scent, with a faint echo of Pacific breezes, jungle blossoms, and deep wet woods. Sampaguita blossoms, banana leaf, palm, and narra (trop fruity) Australian Copperhead - Snake Oil with acai berry, amber, cardamom, neroli, and smoked vanilla (fruity, fresh on me anyway) Sundew - sticky, glowing golden, sweet (clean, sweet) havent tried them, but maybe: (fruity, tropicals) Xiuhtecuhtli - Copal, plumeria and sweet orange and the smoke of South American incense and crushed jungle blooms Ile de la Tortue - Damp air trapped in limestone caverns, heady greenery, hothouse orchids, nicotiana blossoms, bois de chandel, elemi, palm wine, garambullo, pega-pega, flame of the forest, and a swirl of Haitian vetiver Vasakasajja - skin musk, wild orchid, champaca flower, amaranth, tonka bean, and French vanilla Shango - red apples, banana, chili pepper, coconut, pineapple, pomegranate and sugar cane Pele - muguet and Hawaiian white ginger enveloped by warm, damp tropical blooms. Yemaya - Her ofrenda is a bounty of melons and grapes, strewn with the petals of the flowers of motherhood, draped with sea mosses
  24. the shampoo or the conditioner? Because they smell very different to my nose. Both have kind of a tropical fruit vibe though.
  25. To my nose, Antikythera, Glowing Vulva, Haloes, and Aureus are all remarkably similar. Aureus is the least like the others, it doesnt have the sweet touch. Haloes is the sweetest. GV and Antikythera are very similar in my book - GV might be a tad more fem, but I love Antikythera *shrug* er I know theres LE's in there - but theres Discontinued too!!
