    Chrysanthemum Moon

In bottle: Warm, musky, and spicy ginger. Immediately on skin: It smells slightly floral, a nice base of spice and musk. The ginger adds a little foodiness to the blend. After a few minutes: Very floral and warm and spiced. It’s not a heavy scent and it’s slightly sweet. The notes blend very nice together and no one scent overshadows another. A bit smoky and hazy. So far: This has good staying power… it’s still very strong after a few hours. It’s become rather deep and sweet, and very beautiful. The mums, ginger, and musk really blend together beautifully. I really like this one! Overall, it’s so lovely, deep, and complex, I wouldn't hestitate to wear any time ! It's rich and very exotic! This makes me feel dangerous...and underworldly, like Mata Hari!

    Queen

In the imp: Floral, chocolate and peppercorns Wet: patchouli and a bit of amber Dry: A lovely honeyed powder note Another confident earthy woman scent--nothing frilly about this. It's not a menacing scent on me, but it does change quite a bit. This is an interesting scent. It does have quite a throw--it could be a cloying scent for me, if it were closer to my head. I'm keeping it on my wrists only!

    Othello

In the vial: nothing really stands out, except for a hint of rose hips, cool and clean Wet: Rose emerges with a musky undertone, dreamy powder and cardamon Dry: A spicy rose scent.... soft, regal and exotic. Very well blended. Nothing overtly masculine or feminine. The spices are a nice touch--the cardamon reminds me of my favorite Turkish coffee cookies. After a few hours: This is so subtle that a man could wear it as easily as a woman. Simple, yet exotic.

    Masquerade

In the vial: heavy ambergris and patchouli Wet: The orange blossom comes to the top with creamy carnation Dry: I am SOOO swept into in this! My nose loves what becomes a kiss of cocoa in the background. A very nice complement to the orange blossom and patchouli. Everything is subtly blended now. Just glorious!!! Super yummy and dark!!! This is the kind of patchouli I love! A bit like Lush's Karma--but darker, blended. I may have to get a bottle of this!!

    F5

Definitely a clean, almost sporty scent! From the bottle, a bright note of lime dominates and I am almost leery that this will be too masculine for me. When wet on the skin I whiff light clear, mint and green tea, clean and refreshing. I adore green tea...When it dries the white musk and sea spray soften the aloe and verbena and the scent becomes warm and feminine. This is a great daytime scent appropriate for any workplace...soft but not powdery on me.

    The Black Swan

In the Bottle: deep pond water, sharp lily, spanish moss Wet: seaweed, intense violet leaf Dry: More florals appear but begining to dilute and blend together, still mossy and a bit salty with murky dark greens and blue. Very cool aquatic--similar in atmosphere to Black Moon. The blended florals are strong with a long throw. Just gorgegous!!!

    Vechernyaya

In the imp: musk, subtle patchouli, poppy Wet: lots of warm musk, poppy in the background Dry: The patchouli nestles way down into a skin smell, dry and mild, the musk smooth and softy creamy with a sweet air of poppy. This is very classic and refined in a wispy way. Even after an hour the poppy breezes over the light musks leaving traces of a gentle floral air. This could easily be worn by both sexes. Very close to the skin.

    Squirting Cucumber

In the imp: cool, watery cucumber; green foliage Wet: happy, clean juicy cucumber exploding on skin; a sweet white floral; green grass Dry: Fresh, crisp--perfect cucumber note! After a while, it warms a tad with a bit of aloe. Refreshingingly cool for on a day like today when temp is predicted at 106 degrees. I love cucumber notes in complex oils...this is simple and straightforward. Would make a great layering note. But today, I will enjoy it alone and long for cooler weather!

    La Vita Nuova

In the imp: apple blossoms with a hint of citrus. Wet: apple blossom and lemon balm, bright and refreshing. Dry: White rose appears, delicately balanced with the grape, giving a crystalline backdrop to the apple blossom and lemon balm. The aroma is sweeter. After a while, the grape emerges a bit more. Verdict: Fresh floral blend. The lemon balm is very pale and gentle. We have lemon balm in our wild garden. The crushed leaves of this mint give off a soft lemony aroma, its flowers succulent with nectar in summer attract small species of bees. I'm not sure that I can do justice to this scent...it just blooms on the skin. Heavenly for warm weather!

    Endymion

In the imp: lily of the valley, green pearWet: the pear rounds out with white musk, oh so pretty!Dry: Wistful, feminine lilies and roses in the backdrop, pear is faded down. I have never really cared for roses, but this is the perfect rose note.Later: This is just superb--a gentle fragrance that has stayed true! It's not strong or cloying on me. I wore it to bed last night and it still has lingered. Stays imtimately close to the skin.Impression: A gentle soft floral with a hint of musky pear that stays close to the imp in all stages. I can see wearing this anytime--but I love the mythology and will likely wear it at bedtime. Gorgeous--now can I swoon???

    Madonna

In the imp: hyssop, pomegranate as well. Hyssop is herbal, but cheerful Wet: hyssop, orchid, sweet juice of pomegranate. Oh--if this stage would last!!! Heaven! Dry: An earthy patchouli on the skin, iris, hyssop and pomogranate balancing out. There's another floral there, perhaps angel's trumpet. After about an hour, a powder note. The pomegranate is totally enhanced by the other notes and eventually loses some of its juiciness. The whiteness of the florals, an air of frankincense surround the musky fruit of the once tangy pomegranate. After a few hours: a soft white orchid and subtle patchouli...Alas, the pomegranate is a memory.

    The Fruit of Paradise

In bottle/imp: Juicy, dark pomegranate. Immediately on skin: Nice and deep, dark, and juicy. It smells a bit like an equal part of pine and juicy red fruit, which smells just like pomegranate juice. It’s very crisp and not overly sweet. After a few minutes: This scent seems surprisingly wearable. The pomegranate has settled down even more, and has become this fruity, red, and slightly perfume-y blend (in a good way!). It’s very strong and is also a very cheerful scent… it’s sort of crisp. Overall Impressions: I can see this fragrance fitting well into my bpal collection… it’s a great fruit scent. It’s perfume-y enough to be very wearable, and settles nicely into my skin. It seems to give very good throw and the sweetness and crispness of this blend is very well balanced.

    Black Dahlia

In the imp: magnolia and amber Wet: magnolia mingled with jasmine. The amber recedes. Drydown: beautiful magnolias and jasmine tinged by dark amber. A warm, smooth floral. The magnolia and jasmine are primary notes. Little change on the drydown. The rose and orchid peek through enough to ground the sweeter flowers. Warm amber background with lasting throw. Very romantic floral scent, sultry with sophistication.

    Uruk

In the vial: Almonds and fig Wet: watery lilies, jasmine and patchouli in a soft smoky resin Dry: the almonds tame down quickly, this blends into a gentle cinnamon, bergamot darkness. The jasmine is there, but never dominates! Verdict: once this dries after an hour or so--it becomes next to impossible to distinguish the notes. It becomes very dusty and light on me. Not much throw, my skin is sucking it up. This may be one that I have to re-apply to make it last. I like the smokiness, though! Mid-afternoon to say: this gets much deeper as the day goes on. The bergamot and jasmine move forward, the almonds in the backgrounds still. Although I like this one well enough, I am satisfied to keep my imp.

    Singing Moon

In the bottle: green and watery Wet on the skin: lavender, wildflowers, thistle and wet rocks Drydown: Very dreamy, primal, smoky background. Oohhhh, this one is sooooooo mine!!! Wild oats and sea grass. Verdict: I need more!!! Why do I love the limited editions so?? This is my favorite Celtic themed lunar oil so far. This one haunts me. I pick up so many impressions from this. There are some unknown notes here. Something intangible strikes me--rainy walks on a wild meadow to the edge of a watery cliff, the weeping of banshees over a freshly hewn grave, the earth meeting the sea... I'm glad that I have this! A treasure! No other BPAL scent affects me the way this Singing Moon does...

    Lyonesse

In the imp: vanilla, sandalwood and musk Wet on skin: foamy ambergis with watery sea moss and lily Dry: the tangy amber and vanilla rise beautifully with the musk, very exotic Impression: like being on a sea sprayed cliff looking out over endless blue ocean This is a very enjoyable scent...sometimes vanilla gets in the way and becomes too much like a sugar cookie on me. Fortunately, that doesn't happen here. The blend stays clean and well balanced. The mossiness and ambergris are lingering more than the first time I wore this. The stargazer lily is barely there. Still as lovely as the first wear.

    Cairo

In the imp: figs, chocolate, honey, my beloved cardamom!! Wet: spice (maybe laurel), smoky myrrh incense, grape, juniper Drydown: Exotic and regal, very smooth, becomes lightly smoky. It is aromatic and the air I breathe is lighter. Very ritualistic scent. The cardamon is awesome. I just need some Turkish coffee before I check out some maps of this ancient city. This is one of my alltime favorites from BPAL. It doesn't get much better than this for me when figs and cardamom are in the notes! I have yet to experience another scents that lifted the air as Cairo does...I'm guessing it's Kyphi incense! Probably a 5ml is in the near future!

    Hollywood Babylon

In the vial: sweet overripe fruit Wet: red musk and plastique vanilla, red fruits, cherries, strawberries that are beginning to rot. Not sure that I like this...however it is fitting for the theme of the scent. Might work in the end if it all balances out. DH walked in and asked when I started wearing hairspray! Dry: No amber or heliotrope yet. The red musk is still making a big entrance. The fruit is not delectible--still overly ripe, sticky. There is a faint incensey smoke--like cherry cigarettes. Later: Overly sweet still. Somewhere there is a slithery note that could be the red musk. I think this could be fun on the right person. Overall the fragrance is appropriate--a mix of innocent and overindulged. In many ways it reminds me of Lolita with deep dark twist. Not exactly my usual fare when it comes to scents but well worth visiting....

    Osun

In the imp: honey and dried herbs, with a sour background, perhaps wine Wet: sweet flowers, roses, a fruit--a bit of pomegranate, cloves, more delcious raw honey, the sour background disappears Drydown: crisp and warm, almost cleansing smell. Very peaceful and feminine with a powdery sweetness. Impression: this scent feels happy and full of sunshine...a great anytime scent. Nothing too complicated--just enjoyable.

    Whitechapel

In the imp: Fresh limes and lemons Wet: I'd be lying if I told you anything else--still same! Where's the musk? Lilacs--MIA Dry: Seriously--send in the purple! (taps foot) Nothing--not even a wisp of musk. 1/2 hr: the lemons and limes are cold and waxy now, still waiting for musk and lilacs 1 hr: this is sheer disappointment...the tangy lemons and limes have faded fast! A powdery residue of pale musk out of nowhere and no lilacs. The lilacs are as enigmatic as the Ripper himself. Blame it on something...my chemistry. Just wanted more than I got with this!

    Venice

In the imp: A bouquet of flowers, fruit and watery aromas. Wet on skin: A lemony bath, juicy plums and currants drenching rose petals, violets Dry on skin: The sandalwood is warming things up. The watery lemon and rose still dominant. The jasmine is oh-so-gentle...excellent blending. Later: The florals are becoming more rounded and defined. Wisteria blossoms, rose petals, sweet waterlily in a tarted lemon background. The juices of freshly cut fruit keep the florals from cloying with sweetness. It's almost as if the cut fruits and florals are floating in scented water in a gorgeous crystal bowl.. Verdict: This is a robust fragrance...flowers bathed in golden sunlight, crisped by lemony juices. The citrus, fruit and flower notes taper down with a watery hit. Really gorgeous and lively. A stately voluptuous feel rich in velvety florals and fruited tapestries. Regal reds, purples and gold brocades of a Titian portrait...the sandalwood is only there for the early drydown. Wisteria and rose mingle together dancing in the barely there lemon. An exquisite floral blend!

    Thirteen (13): June 2008

When I open the bottle and take a whiff I get that gorgeous white and dark chocolate, I know I'm in for a smell sensation!! The mix of both is incredible and buttery. On my skin, the chocolates deepen with the warmth from the tonka and spices and the woodiness from the incenses. The apple is only there for a peek, no honeysuckle for my skin. They are there somewhere in the sweetness, but not out forward. The black tea and chocolates are a wonderful wake-up!!! This is not particularly a foody scent on me--much more like chocolately incense. The second time I wear this, it is much like the first--only this time I craved to wear it. I couldn't wait another day. I had to wear this so I could experience it again! Edited to say: I didn't realize I had reposted this--meant to update my original--my bad

    Aeval

In the imp: sage, sweet pea, herbs Wet: tonka, musk, then another rush of sweet pea and sage Dry: The sage adds an earthy quality to this, the tonka staying dominant for a while, warm and creamy sweet pea still there. Just a bit naughty--a sweat pea scent that is not frilly and girly. A bit softer than Leanan Sidhe. After an hour or so, the tonka gets a light vanilla tone. Overall still sensual and fresh. A mix of ethereal and earth...this is a good daytime scent for me. Dignified and respectful.

    Long Night Moon

In the bottle: first whiff of gleaming sweet cereus, thyme, clean musk Wet: Serene mint, honeysuckle, moonflower Dry: The cereus is such a unique note, nothing like anything I have experienced. Languid, cool air notes. The mint note is delicate. The blue musk adds a chilliness to a succulent breath of honeysuckle, still slightly herbal from the thyme. Impressions of a chilly night where stars slowly begin to twinkle, a silvery moon casting a long shadow. Similar in feel to Black Moon. Has a cool velvety cucumber juiciness to it. Will be adding this to my scents that I love to wear at bedtime...

    Snow-Flakes

In the bottle: watery cucumber, mint, smidge of vanilla Wet: Tingly mint, icy cool, a tinge of violet Dry: Here's when this turns magical! The sweetness turns powdery and a white musk emerges. The scent is now a sweet, creamy mint. Gradually, the creaminess develops a barely detectible vanilla scent. After a while, the mint has more or less departed, but the white musk is back, very faintly, so I'm left with a light, creamy, pale musk with a hint of floral that is just amazingly delicious. The cucumber is way down, but tempers the sharpness of the mint. I wore it to bed last night it still smells wonderful this morning.
