Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self Similarity v4

CXCI ? The label is smudged already. I've had this for over a week, now, and have tried it a couple times trying to get a better handle on it. Wet, I smell lemons and Snake Oil. Dry, the Snake Oil takes over. The lemons are gone underneath the spicy spicy musky vanilla that is Snake Oil on my skin. It may even out a bit over time? As it is, this is mostly Snake Oil once it dries, and I already have some of that.

    The Caterpillar

In the imp and wet, this is heavy on the jasmine and neroli. Drying, the patchouli and vetiver become noticable...behind the jasmine and neroli. I doubt the carnation ad bergamot are going to be able to hack their way forward in all that. On me, this is jasmine and patchouli with a bit of vetiver. Heady and dark.

A bit sweeter than straight Dorian. I suspect it may be a mild fruit...something like pear? Plus licorice! Pear and licorice Dorian. Mild, sweet, not cloying, and the throw is about what I am used to from Dorian; that is, it is enough for me to smell, but, not more than an occasional faint whiff for those around me. Very nice, and I like it. The licorice didn't last very long at first, but, Dorian gets better on me with a little bit of age on it. I expect this one will as well.

LXXXIX Sniffed in the bottle, this is powerful...a bit like Frederic or Tristran in some fashion that I can't pin down yet? On me, this is bay rum and dark woods from Frederic...and possibly redwood, tonka and spices from Tristran? Plus myrrh and frankincense which are usually amazing for me. I'll need to wear it a bit to see if this actually has coriander in it...There is definitely something spicy. I definitely like it, and I know it will only improve with a bit of aging. This one would smell totally and truly amazing on a guy, I think. I'll wear it anyway, but, on a guy this would be sexay as all get out. Mmmm. Drying this is smoothing out a bit. I want to stroke it or rub up against it. Heh. It is truly and terribly sad that my husband can't do perfume.

    Thirteen (13): March 2009

The label is a madder red color. The chocolate in this smells melted to me, at first, and then becomes cooler and fresher...like reverse time lapse or something. The cherry is mostly a fruity sweetness rounding out the scent. The bamboo is part of what is making it seem wetter/cooler/fresher as it comes forward. This is very different from February's 13. There's more chocolate, less spice, and there is an overall feeling of coolness to the scent, rather than warm dry spicyness which is what I get from February's 13.

    The Host of the Air

Fresh green hillside...the sort you used to roll down for fun as a kid before you grew up enough to start worrying about bees or prickles. I can sort of smell other greenery and maybe something sweeter in the far far background.

    Agapē

Wet, it's fruit and sweet pea. The apple comes to the forefront fast, so now it is apple and sweet pea, and becoming mostly apple. I can just detect the guava. Now I am finding a bit of the sugar cane. The vanilla cream, carnation and Tonka are not apparent yet. Sweet and fruity, with just a little bit of the sweet pea as a floral tint. This lasts forever on me, but, it changes. A few hours in, the vanilla and sugar become the dominant notes, and over the course of the afternoon it beomes mainly a warm sugared vanilla cream. Very nice.

    White Chocolate, Marshmallow, and Coconut

Sweet and fluffy. This may be dependent on my monthly chemistry. Yesterday it was a bit soapy and I was surprised. I'd tried it at a will call and I didn't remember it smelling soapy at ALL. Today, though, once it dried down it was fine. Sweet, creamy, well blended. I like it.

    413 U.S. 15 / Miller Vs. California

It starts off very green smelling...looking at the list, I have no idea what might be smelling green. It doesn't last long, though. Soon it starts to smell like a sweetened paper bag. Thankfully, that doesn't last long either. =) In an hour or so it dries down to a creamy sweet fragrance. The leather and cognac keep it from being an innocent creamy sweetness. Very unfortunately, there is still paper bag underneath it all, and I fear that that is the scent that will last the longest on me.

    Night-Gaunt

Their scent of their slick, rubbery hides is bittersweet, ticklish, and skin-creeping: something akin to yuzu, white grapefruit, and kumquat mixed with the snow-dusted flowers of Mount Ngranek. A really neat scent. It starts off strong citrus with a nice toothy bite, though it is already fading somewhat and smoothing out. I picked this one to try out because I was looking for other scents with yuzu to compare, and this one was handy...having been frimped with the decants. =) I like it, but, it isn't lasting. And yes, I'll be looking for more yuzu scents now that I have a clue. I just hope I can get it to last sometime, as neither scent with it is lasting well on me at all. =(

    Voyeurs Among the Cherry Blossoms

On me, wet, it is mostly moss and soft musk. Now I am trying it in a different spot on me, as the cherry blossoms seem reluctant to show up. Nice, but, on me almost vanishingly faint; A clean scent, rather than a floral. ~edit~ Second wearing, the cherry blossoms show up. This is very nice, but, soft and unobtrusive. It almost seems sweet and sugary on me, but, that may be the musk reacting as it occasionally does on my skin. It isn't strong, but, the soft scent has lasted all day long.

    Couple Consulting an Enpon

Mostly blackberries, with the sandalwood, orangeflower and amber in the distant background. The mint shows up as it warms on my skin. Sweet. Drying, things start blending and rearranging. This is nice, and very different.

Eight Views of Actors in Their Dressing Rooms

I tried this at work, and didn't have a list of the notes with me. It started off soft, but as it warmed on my skin I got this amazing spicy scent. Looking at the notes, it must have been a combination of things, or something on that list that is unfamiliar to me, as I don't think I have ever encountered that scent before. It was lovely and different. I may need to track down Yuzu to see if that was it. Unfortunately it didn't stick around really long enough to please me and the whole scent faded down to a vanilla. I am blaming the ambergris for the vanishing act. I wonder if there is something out there that has all those notes, but, maybe instead of ambergris, some other light musk? I think that might have better results on my skin.
  14. This has apricot in it? From what showed up on me I would never have guessed. This was a very well mannered, quite soft scent from start to finish. It smelled clean, with just a little tiny bit of sweetness.

    Eustephanos

The amber, myrrh and frankincense are apparently enough to keep the roses in check. I can smell them, but, they aren't screaming. I think I can even smell the pomegranate, which is very rare for me. This is a subtle, simple, well blended scent. There isn't a whole lot vying for attention here. I'm not in love with it, but, I like it. It's still a bit too floral for me to want to wear often, but, those who tend to amp rose might give it a try.

    Minotaur

Dark musk, myrrh, benzoin, balsam and galbanum...Obviously I had to try that one. I have no idea what tsori is, but maybe I'll find out here? Lovely dark musk and resin. It's different from any other of the resin or musk blends I have tried so far. Complex enough to stay interesting. Strong on me, and lovely. If I had a guy that would wear it, I'd love that, but since my guy doesn't do scent I'll have to wear it myself.

    Morphô

Jasmine, mostly, but, it is behaving well. There is a crisp coolness to the scent almost as if they were straight from the florist cooler. An hour or so later, not much change, but, it has gotten a lot fainter. I don't know how long it will last on me.

    Pothôn Mêtêr

In the vial, I smell the pepper. On wet...Oh, God, Yum. It can't possibly stay that good. I can't pick anything out, but if it stays this way I need a bottle. Drying, the pepper is strengthening. Actually, it's beginning to smell like cinnamon sticks. The spice is overwhelming the rest, and though it is still nice, it isn't quite as obsession worthy. I expect it to change again, though, so we will see. Pokey twigs and cinnamon sticks. It's a cinnamon wreath with no cinnamon on the list. Maybe it's a locket scent. *sigh*

    Epistrophia

Sweet, and very expensive smelling...like the bouquet of flowers in a shop that you don't even ask the price of because you KNOW it is over what you can spend. I like this better than I have other blends with orchid and iris. Much better. This is not one that I would have thought that I would like. It's still way floral considering what I usually wear, but, maybe? Wow this smells expensive. If my husband bought me fowers that smelled like this we'd have to have a talk about the money spent...sometime the next morning, maybe. *edit* About an hour later, it has gotten much fainter. I can still smell the flowers, but only close to my skin.

    Philommeides

Rich and floral when wet, it dried down to peaches pretty quickly. It's a fairly floral peach, but, mostly peach. When I originally read the notes, I had hoped for the carnation and the blood orange showing up, but, no. Fragrant peach wine.

    Lovers in a Ricefield

This started off really sweet, and I was only kind of liking it. Over the course of about 6 hours it has mellowed into a sweet sandalwood that I like much better. However, I think I like a couple other scents better to start with.

    Tissue

It starts off all honey and gardenia...more like honey from bees fed on gardenia blossoms, actually. Sweet and intoxicating. As it dries it is softening slightly. Maybe I can smell the rice paper? Yes, I think that I can. The flowers and the honey are also balancing out a little better, now. The scent is also getting fainter, though, and I hope that it doesn't fade completely.

    Psithyristês

It starts out strong, with the Tea Rose, Lily of the Valley and Plumeria in a BIG, HUGE, FAT BOUQUET. No, I don't think that is redundant. Not here, at least. Then it suddenly recedes, and I know the ambergris has arrived. However, since it started out as strong as it did, I think this one might put up a fight before vanishing like other blends with ambergris tend to do on me. It is very, very, VERY floral. So far, everyone else is saying light and ethereal, and mine is powerful, almost heady. Yeah, the flowers are putting up a fight. I'll give it an hour and see who comes out on top.

    Flowering Chrysanthemums

Faint, faint, light golden scent. On me, I suspect all that is really showing up is the amber incense and a tiny bit of the vanilla. It's nice, but, I can just barely smell it. Many hours later, I have a sugared vanilla and sandalwood scent. It is very close to the skin, but, it is lasting and lasting.

    Giant Vulva

It doesn't smell like I expected, actually. It smells a bit like I expected Flowering Chrysanthemums to smell. If I didn't have the list of notes I would have been completely off base in my guess. If I look for them, I do find the skin musk, the beeswax and a bit of the honey. There is a slight resemblance to Luperci to my nose at least, which makes sense since they have notes in common... ...except that on my walk I was thinking it resembled Luperci without the beeswax or ivy. But it has beeswax, so I guess it just isn't as prominent here. It is complex and one of the stronger ones of this set of decants, at least on me. -edit many hours later- it has been hours and hours since I put this on and I can still smell it. It has faded, somewhat, and maybe the scent has also smoothed out. However, I can still smell this 9 hours later. I think I may have a winner.
