I sniffed this in the bottle this morning and put it on on a whim. I couldn't remember what notes were in it, but, sweet and mild is how it seemed and was about what I was in the mood for. With no notes to look at, I tried to recall what was in it. I thought I smelled resin, and myrrh is high on the list of things tha t will make most anything work on me. Myrrh was probable. Beyond that I was stumped. It's mild, white, and almost pearly..... Which fits the name well, but when I looked again at the notes I was flummoxed. How could those notes possibly produce the mild sweet smell I am getting? Red musk? Patchouli? Flowers? Huh? I've been sniffing and learning for a couple years now and this one makes me feel like I am back at square one. I like it. It fits the mood I am in. It lasts and lasts and lasts on me. The notes, though, led me to think this would smell entirely different than it does.

BLUE MOON 2009: BRIAN'S INTERPRETATION The spirit of the full moon is capricious, intense and passionate, yet still distant, aloof and cold. Luna herself governs glamours, bewitchments and dream-work, innocent wonder, transient pleasure and delight, the Moment, impulse, mystery and veils. The Blue Moon is one of her rarest manifestations, and this scent is formulated to encapsulate her most complex and profound nature: Mugwort, for psychic sensitivity... Yarrow, for divination through dreams... Styrax and frankincense, for wisdom and noscere... ... with a potent lunar-charged, oneirongenic blend of dammar, moonflower, white musk, delicate woods, star anise, Florentine iris, Clary sage, Roman chamomile, Greek cypress, juniper berry, night-blooming cereus, and a touch of cardamom. This fragrance has been infused with Neptune's pine and grains of paradise to help part veils and spark the imagination. This year, we have two interpretations of Blue Moon. This is Brian's Moon. To me, this is a silvery shimmery incense blend. It's slightly sweet, and has just the barest hint of flowers far in the background. It seems cold and silvery, rather than warm and golden like most incense blends smell to me. It also seems a little distant and reserved, or maybe it's just calm? This could make for an interesting sleep blend, but, it isn't really one I want to wear out for most occasions. If I were dressed as the Lady of the Moon, or the Queen of Night and Dreams, then yes, it might be perfect.

This started off ALL marzipan. Then it went ALL rose. ROSE ROSE ROSE! I'd like it to settle down. Immediately.
-
I smelled anise, at first. Very strongly. Now that it's had a chance to settle in I smell the red musk and the leather, sweetened by something bakery-like....and anise. It's nice. It isn't anything like I was expecting, but, it is nice.
-
The mandarin and lemon peel seemed the strongest at first, at least on me. When it settled down, I smelled mostly vanilla, sweetened by fruits. If there's wood or sage in this I'm not smelling them yet.
-
I thought I smelled wood at first, but, no, it's the resins. It still smells woody to me, though, and if there's fig it is hardly apparent at all. Spicy, resiny wood.
-
It starts off very very gingery, and stays that way for a while. Later, though, when I noticed it again, it was mostly vanilla with spices. I don't get airy from this, and I was actually checking to see if tonka was listed, but no, just vanilla and marshmallw cream..... I do like it.

It does seem similar to Huesos de Santo at first. It seems a little creamier, the spices are different than Huesos de Santo as well. This is nice, though I'm not in love yet. However, the first time I encountered Huesos de Santo I didn't know I'd fall in love with it in three months or so so I let it get away. I'll hold on to this one and see. =)

2010 version. When I first put this on, I was perplexed. I didn't smell smoke at all. In fact, it smelled fresh and almost lemony. Over time, the scent changed slightly, and I thought I could pick up linen and wood maybe. Even later, the pipe tobacco started coming out. This is still a very clean scent for something with smoke in it. Cozy and masculine.

This starts off as evergreen sap, fresh and sticky. As it dries it gets more herby. Mostly leaves, with maybe some resins in the far far background. Slightly prickly.

There's a bittersweet note to this that's interesting. It smells like there's orange peel, not just orange blossom honey. The bittersweet note fades into sweetness. It's nice, but I'll have to see how long it lasts.

The patchouli in this is very sharp right now, but, I bet in three months or so this will be awesome. To me, this smells like potential. Behind the patchouli, I smell the leaves and the tonka. I think I even caught a whiff of the ivy for a moment. Actually, it seems to be settling down now. The crunchy sharp edges are softening and smoothing out. It's rich, warm, and complicated.

Wet, the rum and brandy were noticeable. Several minutes in, though, the alcohol seems to have vanished and I am left with a sweet creamy spicy scent. It doesn't list vanilla, but, given how my skin behaves I'm not surprised that it smells like there may be some there. Subtle, creamy and sweet. 2010 version.

Warm, sweet, beeswax and olive oil. The fruit is adding the sweetness to it, but, I can't pick them out individually. As it is settling in on my skin the wax and olive oil can't be picked out anymore either. Warm and sweet, and edging towards foody rather than candles. This is the 2010 version.

In the bottle I can smell the hazelnut as sort of a sweetness, but, on me, this is leather with a hint of tobacco. It's a rich sweet supple very slightly spicy leather scent. Or, that's what it is right now. My prediction is that it will get more foody and coffee-like over time, on my skin, since those are the notes that just won't quit on me. Still, this is a damn sexy scent.

Oooooooh. Rich, spicy, resiny, golden roses. I know it says red roses, but, the scent is golden and spicy to me. Peppery frankincense, golden saffron, fragrant roses and rich sweet honey. Yummy!

I don't smell jasmine in this, but, I do smell rose. Mostly this is an incense scent. This is a deep rose incense. Also, it lasts and lasts. I love myrrh.
-
I had to have this. I was right to get it. I will probably like it better in the long run than any of the other Dawn scents. I adore Myrrh, and it adores me back. The myrrh portion of a scent is usually the strongest and longest lasting part, but, I'm fine with that. It can stabilise other scents that don't tend to last as long on me...like all the greenery in this one. This is a loverly, spicy, green, resinous scent on me. I've had it on a couple hours now, and it is very well blended, still strong, and gorgeous. I've never smelled a forest that smelled like this, but, if I did, I think I'd go feral and live there in the woods.

Warm, sweet, roses and flowers. The roses come out on top of everything else, but the honey and milk keep it from going too far. It is a bit like Katrina. It also lasts and lasts on me.

Chaos Theory VI: Recursive Self-Similarity v7

225: I only ordered one Vanilla CT This one smelled really familiar in the bottle. Something very sweet, with a LOT of associations way way waaaaay back in memory lane. Then, when I applied it I realised, this is a Shirley Temple. Only with a huge shot of vanilla added. Yeah, my parents used to get me Shirley temples as a kid. I liked the maraschino cherries, and the little tiny plastic sword that they used to stick through the cherry. I haven't had one since I was...11? But that is what this is. -

#81 I only ordered one. Orange and citrus, over frankincense. Not just orange, I think..? There might be a tart berry or three in this, like Acai or something. A fruity, juicy, tart scent, with a hint of spice, that might be the frankincense or it might be something else I haven't identified yet. As it dries, I begin to think there may be a flower or two in it as well. It stays mostly on the fruit side, although it is beginning to be less juicy and more dry. It dries down to a dry resin, sweetened by just a bare hint of the fruit. -
I'll get to the review, but, this story is actually pertinent: The forum took its extended naptime about the time I was dealing with this so I didn't end up posting about my bees in the rant section, or anywhere else. I had a hive of bees in my wall. They were entering in a spot where the stucco met the stonework, in an out of the way place where we didn't have to walk past the bees. Therefore, I ignored the hive for a while because my life was complicated and bees were sort of low on my list to deal with. They weren't going to cause the house to fall down, so I ignored them. Therefore, when I finally got a beekeeper to come remove them, the hive extended, inside the wall, from floor to ceiling. Mostly, brood, not honey. It was a much larger job to get them all out of the house than the beekeeper had expected(or I, for that matter), and she worked on it for 5 hours one day and had to come back again to get them all. So, my house had a huge hole in my wall, on the inside, since that's cheaper to replace than the stucco. My house, it smells of honey, and wax, and a sort of faint...muskyness? Bee musk, or something. Not unpleasant. Just different. How did Beth manage to capture that in this scent? Not exactly, mind you, since the oil smells actually much more pleasant. However, the slightly musky beeness is in this, overlayed with a lot more sweetness than my hive had. I can pick out the coconut, and if I look at the list of notes, more become apparent(Or I think they do. I suppose I can be suggestable). Mostly, though, this makes me think of bees. My hive wasn't a killer swarm; they were actually way too busy making babies and feeding them to be interested in me. Therefore I could get fairly close to them without them even caring, and sort of got used to having them around. This can be my souvenir. Something to remember my little friends with now that they have moved on.

.......yum. Sweet and sultry, with enough depth and tartness to not end up cloying. I have to see if it manages to stay that way, but, wet this is very yummy.

I get mostly lilac and maybe the delphinium and wisteria from this. The lavender is not there, nor is the ginger. It is a soft, pale blue floral type of a scent for me.
