    The Unheavenly City

THE UNHEAVENLY CITY In Bottle: Sweet foody floral On Skin: Delicious! Wow!!! And a nice red color!! I get a sweet caramel and floral from this right away. Not two notes I could have ever imagined together… but wow! Creamy and sweet… like an elegant dessert. This has a very strong throw, you just need a little dab. The florals are super sweet, I smell gardenia for sure which is always a hit on me. The florals are kept in check with a soft, velvety background musk that has just the right amount of a spicy edge. I also smell an extra sweet note, perhaps vanilla, and a bit of a boozy note. Yum! That combined with gardenia and jasmine make this one of the sweetest blends I’ve smelled in a long time. That being said, I could see this one giving some people a headache if they apply too much. It is heavy, drippy, and sticky sweet. This is my favorite so far of the Convergence blends and will hang onto my bottle tightly. Very strong throw and long wearlength.

    Shanghai Tunnel

SHANGHAI TUNNEL In Bottle: Clean ozone and dirt On Skin: This is so interesting!!! I love the clean ozone note, so fresh yet still bablanced by the earthy dirt note. Clean and dirt together? Yes it can happen! It has a dark vibe and the dampness of the ocean air trapped in a tunnel. This is a perfect Portland scent! I also catch a very light smidge of pine. Like a forest in the distance. Wet, outdoorsy, clean yet dirty… I love it. Very fresh and stimulates my sense of smell. The pine becomes stronger as the scent develops on my skin. I also smell a strong mossy note that combined with the aquatic note reminds me a little of Zombi. It has a light throw and a pretty short wearlength on me.

    Lydia

LYDIA In Bottle: Soft sweet florals On Skin: This is a beautiful lush floral. So very soft yet strong. I feel like I am in a flower garden surrounded by white jasmine and gardenias just starting to open and release their scent. Sweet, very sweet but not cloying due to a fresh clean and slightly tart note that my guess would be white rose. This scent has a white tone, like clean soft cotton sheets. As a matter of fact I would LOVE this as a linen spray. A feminine scent without a doubt. The scent starts quite strong but slowly fades… all the while retaining it’s gorgeous white floral notes. Medium throw with a fairly long wearlength.

    Bat

BAT In Bottle: Floral On Skin: Ok, I got this just for the bottle and name… yes. How can you go wrong with a scent named Bat?? And I loved Bat-Woman so much…. This scent is a gorgeous floral. Elegant and refined. The florals are not too strong, a perfect balance. The grey musk is sophisticated yet soft. The amber adds a warm tone and is slightly dry, but not enough to tickle the nose. I also get a night feel from this like I did with Bat-Woman which I think is the moonflower. It is very clean, not cloying at all and the ivy gives a nice green note. I love, love, LOVE this floral! An absolute hit on me. I’m usually not big on florals, but the florals in most the Salon series are so well blended and balanced, I think they are above and beyond anything anyone can imagine. I will be wearing this one anytime I’m going anywhere fancy or if I want a touch of elegance to my day. Medium throw and average wearlength.

    Schlafende Baigneuse

SCHLAFENDE BAIGNEUSE In Bottle: Light white floral On Skin: This is the most faint BPAL I have ever smelled. It is a veil, so light you can barely sense it. I get a very white/light yellow feel from this scent. It is bright yet filtered. An echo of a scent. The rose seems dominant on me, a bit sour. But the honeycomb and cream help sweeten it just so slightly. The skin musk is gorgeous and adds to that, “lean in and sniff me” feel. The honeysuckle is held in check which is odd since it usually amps on me. The amber gives another soft thin layer to the musk. There is nothing cloying, loud of offensive about this scent. I think it could work on anyone. It’s a perfect scent to wear anywehre when you want something light and barely noticable except to people you’ll be physically close to. Quite feminine and absolutely beautiful. A very, very, VERY light throw and short wearlength.

    Tamamo-no-Mae

TAMAMO-NO-MAE In Bottle: Sweet yummy asian feel On Skin: This reminds me of Hungry Ghost Moon a bit... it has the obvious Asian overtone and is slightly fruity. It’s sweet and earthy and quite lovely. The musk and sandalwood provide a dark soft base. The rice flower smells similar to HGM and is very sweet. The ginger is also sweet and a bit citrusy. I also get a creamy feel from this scent even though I see no milk or cream notes listed. It reminds me of a fruit smoothie, sweet, juicy and delicious. Some people have mentioned a peachy/apricot note to it, and I seem to smell that as well. I really like it and love that the scent causes me to smile everytime I inhale it. A good spring/summer scent. Medium throw and average to long wearlength.

    Rose Moon

ROSE MOON In Bottle: Rose On Skin: I had to order this because I always order every lunacy. I knew it wouldn’t work on me though, because 90% of rose scents hate me. This is SUPER rose. Very tart, sour and extreme. I was hoping the honey would sweeten it up, but I don’t smell any honey at all. I smell the rose, ripe and strong… there’s no missing the rose in this scent at all. I get a light woody note in the background and also the tartness is amped by the lemon peel. The other notes just blend in with the very dominant rose. As the scent develps, a bit of sweetness comes forward, but it’s not honey sweet, it’s the floral sweetness of jasmine and lilac. A bit cloying for me. All in all this is an extreme rose scent and very feminine. If you like rose notes, you MUST try this one. Sadly it is not for me. Strong throw and long wearlength.

    Blue Moon 2007

BLUE MOON 2007 In Bottle: Fresh clean floral On Skin: This is so pretty. It defines blue perfectly. The tone is a brilliant light blue, I feel aquatic, fresh, clean and bright. The notes are very well blended and the scent is very smooth. The florals stand out the most. It’s not as cucumbery as the original version, but it is still gorgeous. There is a herbal feel from the sage, a soft almost creamy feel from the aloe, and just a little bitterness from the cucumber. The buttercup is so pretty, the florals in this take after it, dainty and soft. It feels like summer, warm yet fresh… a great scent that is quite feminine in nature. The moonflower also gives a slightly nightlike feel, yet it is still bright and warm. The main difference between this and the original is the original felt more icy and cold in tone, where as this one is more warm and summery. While I still love the original version better, the 07 verison is also quite pretty. I will be wearing it for sure. Medium to strong throw, medium/average wearlength. While I love this one on it's own, I also like to layer it with Squirting Cucumber and Yemaya and then it smells very similar to Blue Moon 04.

    His Station and Four Aces

HIS STATION AND FOUR ACES In Bottle: Pungent lilac On Skin: This scent is very strong, the lilac is pungent and almost overwhelming. The white musk is nice and clean, and the leather gives an elegant backdrop. This is sophistication at it’s finest. I see a man sliding out of his Mecerdes Benz dressed to the nines for a night of socializing. Freaking sexy as well. This is a very unique BPAL scent, not like anything I can remember reviewing. And the lilac fades very quickly and it becomes a leather musky cologne, perfect for my taste. Masculine to the extreme, my husband MUST try this. I get a very white feel from this, clean and dashing. The scent is so pretty, I wouldn’t mind it rubbing off him onto me. Bottle worthy for sure. It has a medium to strong throw and long wearlength.

    A Bachelor's Dog

A BACHELOR'S DOG In Bottle: Soft sweet yum On Skin: Now this one I LOVE. So soft and sexy, slightly masculine but hell, I’d wear it too!! I love leather notes, I love soft musk and there is just a hint of tobacco that’s sweet but not sickly sweet. A perfect combination of these 3 notes. This also is very light, a nice scent for someone who wants something subtle. This is a comfort scent for sure, I just want to cuddle with it. It’s a little dry and powdery for my usual taste, but that just makes the scent feel older and more worn-in. A skin scent for sure, causing you to lean in and deeply inhale. It also reminds me of a very faint version of one of the Snake Oils from the Snake Pit. I am going to beg my husband to wear this one. He likes more softer scents and we both adore the leather notes. Light throw and short to average wearlength.

    Kelly Pool

KELLY POOL In Bottle: Eeek!! Numb??? On Skin: This reminds me of Numb right away. What about it? The fact it smells like antifungal foot cream. This is just terrible on me. I’m going to keep it on long enough to review, then wash it off. I love teakwood and don’t get that note in here… and I’m a seamstress and am around worsted wool quite often and don’t get that from this either. All I get is powdery, medicinal foot cream. I do get the tart and sour rose, not a note I normally like either. So kind of a cross between antifungal foot cream and a really strong soap. One of my least favorite BPAL scents, sorry. Must wash this off now. Strong throw by the way, for the short time I had it on. Also, I wrote this without seeing the other reviews... so I see it's not just me that is reminded of Numb...

    New Year's Eve in Dogville

NEW YEAR'S EVE IN DOGVILLE In Bottle: Leather and cologne On Skin: This is very masculine right from the start. It’s actually quite gorgeous, and I’d love to talk my husband into wearing this one. He likes a more perfumey note to his colognes and is not fond of really dark or incensey blends. This one is not as smoky as some of the other scents I’ve reviewed from this series. The champagne note is not really boozy, more just sparkly which is nice. It offers a little light in between the darker and muskier notes in this blend. There is also a slight sweetness to it. I really do like it. It has a medium throw and average wearlength.

Sitting up with a Sick Friend

SITTING UP WITH A SICK FRIEND In Bottle: Smoky powery perfume On Skin: Hmmm… this one isn’t agreeing with me. It reminds me of cleaning up the carpet after you’ve spilled something on it. That smell of the carpet cleaner (usually something floral scented) and the mix of wetness, slightly dirty carpet and maybe some smoke lingering from last nights party in the background. That sounds terrible, I know… sorry. But… yes there’s a but… after about 10 minutes it becomes much more pretty. Powdery and rosey… very feminine but slightly old lady like. So while it does turn out better than it started, it still doesn’t do much for me. I’m not fond of rose and the smoke in the background combined with the floral just seems a bit icky on me. The leather also never really comes out much, so I don’t think I would label this as a “leather scent” at all. Light throw and average wearlength.

    A Bold Bluff

A BOLD BLUFF In Bottle: Cherry smoke On Skin: Yum… this is sweet and delicious. The smoke is so light, not sickly sweet like I associate with cigars. My dad used to have a drawer where he would keep his pipe. Well, he stopped pipe smoking many years ago, but the drawer still has that faint pipe tobacco odor and this reminds me of it. The hops is tied with the tobacco at the top of the note chain. The cherry is very light, only a whisper in this scent. The tonka is also there, just giving a slight sweetness. I agree with the comment someone else made about this scent being more “subtle” than “bold”. It is very light and fades almost immedietly on me. I really like it but wish it had more throw and staying power. Super light throw and extra super short wearlength.

    Minotaur

MINOTAUR 07 In Bottle: Light resins On Skin: Wow, I love resinous blends. But they tend to be heavy and I have a BUNCH of them, so I decided to skip ordering this one as a bottle and just try an imp. I should have gotten a bottle. While it is resinous, it’s very light and soft. Yes, the black musk is quite deep and swarthy, but it is countered by the freshness of the balsam. Others have compared it to Schwarzer Mond and I agree… just a lighter version of it. Schwarzer mond is sweeter and stickier whereas this is lighter and softer… like skin musk and velvet. Very incensy and very gorgeous. I love this scent and could see both men and women wearing it. Medium throw and long wearlength.

    Taurus 2007

TAURUS 07 In Bottle: Crisp fresh floral On Skin: What a pretty scent! This floral is so fresh and not overly sweet at all. It has tartness from the rose, crisp mints, and sweet apple blossom and violet. All combined it makes a grogeous floral scent. It has a bit of an aquatic feel, almost like a spring shower on a garden just starting to bloom. If you think normal florals are too heavy or cloying, try this scent for sure. I wish I had ordered a bottle. This is the perfect scent fo March/April. Beth hit it on the nose. It has a light throw and a short wearlength.

    Poisson d'Avril

POISSON D'AVRIL In Bottle: Spring floral On Skin: Another super springlike scent! In the same family as Ostara but sweeter and much more floral. Which makes sense since they share daffodil, blossoms, honey, and rose. I can smell the bluebells and crocus, those gorgeous spring blooms. This is a great room scent as well if you instantly want to have flowers scenting the area… just like a fresh bouquet. Rose and iris don’t always work on me, but the honey here sweetens them and keeps their sour and bitter notes in check. Perfumey and very feminine. Light throw and short wearlength, great for a scent locket.

    Monster Bait: Ventriloquist Dummy

Menacing, maniacal, and slick with the one-liners ... this guy does it all with a wink and a smile! Savage apricot, depraved dry woods, and psychopathic patchouli covered by a disarmingly sweet mishmosh of caramel, brown sugar, hazelnut, and butterscotch. Be warned: this oil will instigate possession in most puppets, including some marionettes and the occasional finger puppet. VENTRILOQUIST DUMMY In Bottle: Dry woods and nuts On Skin: This scent is very dry and dusty. I would say the “depraved dry woods” are the donimant notes for sure. I don’t smell any apricot in the slightest sadly… I LOVE apricot and was looking forward to it here. The caramel and nuts add a –slight- foody quality but also add to the dry and brown tone of the scent. I also get pepper. I know it’s not a note listed, but theres that tell-tale nose tickle I get from pepper. Hmm… Much too woody for me and not nearly as foody and sweet as I’d hoped for. If you like woody notes, try this one. If you’re afraid of foody notes, also try this one because it really isn’t a foody scent no matter what the notes in the description say. Not my kind of scent at all. Off to the swaps. Medium throw and long wearlength.

    Monster Bait: Bloody Mary

BLOODY MARY In Bottle: Sweet cherries On Skin: Hmmm… the cherry is very heavy here. Almost like a cough syrup. Very dark, very juicy, very very dominant. The powdered sugar is barely there sadly, that was the note I was looking most forward to. The cream sweetens the scnet and gives a nice creamy edge, but the cherries still are top dog. The cherries are almost too dark… sort of turning… overly ripe. I have a vision from the smell, holding overly ripe cherries and them turning to mush in my hands, the dark liquid dripping all over. This is not a cutesy candy cherry to me… this is like the evil apple from Snow White. Dark, scary and evil. Tainted with evil… yes. It’s interesting but not a scent I’d wear. Medium throw and average wearlength.

    Monster Bait: Tokyo Stomp

TOKYO STOMP In Bottle: Minty Vanilla On Skin: YUM!! Wow!! I can’t even begin to say how playful and yummy this is. It is a very soft mint, nothing that clears the sinuses or anything like that. The vanilla is sweet and delicious and the mint peeks through playfully. It reminds me of that vanilla ice creams with bits of peppermint in it. I was to eat this off my wrist. YUM!!! Calmer than Lick It and sweeter than Snowblind. People have compared it to York Peppermint Patties, but I get no chocolate from it at all and it’s far sweeter and more vanilla. Maybe just the filling in the patty? Anyone around you is going to start salivating, that’s for sure. I am so happy I ordered two bottles. I love it!! Medium throw and average wearlength.

    Milk Moon 2007

MILK MOON 07 In Bottle: Sweet fruits On Skin: First off, this scent is COMPLETELY different than the 05 Milk Moon. I’m not going to lie… I’m sad about that since Milk Moon is my favorite Lunacy. This scent is very pungent with fruits. The grape and the fig especially. I get a purple feel from this, and from a distance it’s quite nice. But close up the milk seems a bit sour mixed with all those fruits. Wow, a heartbreaker for me. It’s warm and comforting but also alive and sticky sweet. After about 10 minutes the sour funk goes away. Thank goodness! Not it’s just a fruity sweet scent… not very milky at all but creamy for sure. It smells like a creamy tropical beverage. So… a word of advice, give it a chance. While it may be funky for a bit, it morphs into a really pretty scent. Very strong throw and medium to long wearlength.

    Oof (fizzyBOOM)

Sinus pain relief. Sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, shea oil, coconut milk, henna leaf powder, witch hazel, camphor oil, rosemary oil, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab's Elixir blend. This bomb wasn't labeled other than "Sinus" so I'm assuming it's Oof. I LOVE this scent, it is very strong with a Eucalytpus note. Menthol herbal and I think a slight citrus? The bomb is white in color. I get severe migranes and sinus headaches so this scent is going to be a lifesaver. I have been suffering from congestion and sitting in a bath with this bomb totally cleared out my sinuses. It was so nice!!! As with the other bobms it had a nice long fizz and made the water moisturizing but not heavily so. Just a slight slickness, not oily or sticky. The scent is strong, which is needed for clearing the sinuses. Very nice! I think I will order a dozen of these. It truly helped my sinuses and made me feel better. It gets an AAAAA+++++++!!! And as I've said about the other bombs, the bath rinsed out nice and clean. No residue and I didn't have to scrub an oil ring away. Yay!!!

    Bien Loin D'Ici

BIEN LOIN D'ICI In bottle: Light sweet resins On Skin: I bought this as a bottle unsniffed just because all the notes sounded like winners to me. Sadly, on my skin things didn’t come across as planned. At first it smells slightly medicinal… and like a bandaid. Then it starts to develop and the musks come out, quite feral… almost reminding me of Enraged Orangutang Musk. The benzoin is sweet and resinous. The honey (my favorite note in the world) is very light and hard to tell it’s even there other than it sweetens the blend. The caramel is also super light. Usually in blends where it is present, it’s the first note I smell. Here it is just an echo and not foody at all. The Morocaan spices are quite obvious though… this is a resinous spicy exotic blend but with a very light feel nothing, heavy or dark. I think it’s a beautiful scent, not really sexy as it is feral, but interesting none the less. It’s like a cleaner and much lighter version of Smut. Also, as it develops, it takes on a soapy tone. Starts with a strong throw but as it develops it’s throw and body fade…. So I’d say a medium throw with average wearlength.

    Ostara

OSTARA In Bottle: Sweet florals On Skin: The first floral I smell is daffodil… this scent actually seems like a bright yellow daffodil all bottled up. After a few minutes other notes peek out, I can smell the violet leaf, a bit of the fruits and the earthyness of the orris root. The franincense is very light, just a smidge of it hiding in back. I don’t get the honey cakes and sweet cream, the two notes I was looking forward to the most. Nothing foody about this scent at all, it is pure floral spring… bright sunny yellow in tone. The resins do ground the scent and keep it from beeing a sharp or sour floral, very nice. The honey cakes start to come out... but not as honey or cake... but more as honeysuckle. All in all, it is a scent made for spring, no doubt about it. Sadly it fades uber quick and seems like I would need to slather it on and probably layer it as a lotion, spray and scent locket to keep the springtime feel around me for any length of time. Throw is also quite light.

    Poisoned Apple

POISONED APPLE In Bottle: Apple On Skin: Apple extreme with a earthy dirty note underneathe. The hemlock adds to the earthy plantyness of the scent. The opium gives a dark, deep background note and I smell a very sharp and sour floral… almost like rose but not quite. This scent is not a sweet apple, it’s more like one that has been picked too soon and is still hard and very tart. It’s not my thing, I’m not usually big on apple scents… but if you do like apple blends, this is a nice variation. Medium to strong throw and short to average wearlength.
