    Sugar Skull

in the bottle and on my skin, this scent is unwavering. maple syrup. burnt sugar. heaps and heaps of sugar. the sweetness is almost sickening for this sweet-scent lover. oh goddess, will this scent ever stop? one dab...and two hours later, my boyfriend walks in the door and comments on the lovely scent of the house. that was my sugar skull. later, the scent becomes a bit darker. more akin to amber and maple than pure sugar. alas, amber and i just don't get along. this is lovely, but i'm giving it to my boyfriend, who drools over this scent like a pavlovian dog.

    Has No Hanna

in the imp: floral. hmmm. will this work on me? i'm not a floral person. but i'm looking for a mood boost. wet: dear goddess, the flowers are conquering the world! herbal/green/foodie/woody/incense lovers, take cover! later: ah yes, a mellowing of the flowers. soapy, powdery notes are coming out in full force, but it's not an obnoxious soap scent. more green soap than white soap. i detect some sort of herbal note in there which i adore. the throw is powerful, too, but not overpowering. hopefully it'll positively affect my coworkers! mood: i've been bouncing around all morning, despite the constant rain and 50-degree weather. my mood has definitely been given a boost. i'm downright chipper, which is rare. this one's a keeper, for days when i need an extra mood boost. i don't know how beth does it, but this is aromatherapy at its finest. [edit] laterlater: now i can place the green soapy scent - cucumber. how lovely! it reminds me of the scent of remede alchemy moisturizer. (please excuse me - i'm a skin care junkie, and therefore, compare everything to skin care scents )

    High John the Conqueror

in the imp: grape! kool-aid grape! with just a hint of white flowers hiding under the heavy, sugared fruit. wet: hmmm. this instantly turned massively floral on me. ick. i was looking forward to the fruity scents. later: yep, this one's strictly floral, thanks to my body chemistry. if you're into florals, this one's quite lovely, but not for me.

    Seduction

wet: paperwhites, jasmine, and banana. yes, banana. a delectable combination, i might add! it makes me drool (perhaps that's the intended effect of a fragrance called 'seduction'?) and also makes me hungry. later: the florals are coming out stronger now, with a powdery background. the banana note is morphing into a floral scent i'm not familiar with. woah. this one fades very quickly. about 20 minutes after dabbing some on my wrists and neck, i smell only occassional wafts of florals. this should be called, "i'll seduce you with my innocent beauty," it's so light and playful.

    Whip

rose, rose, fading rose, soapy rose, just plain soap. no hint of leather on my skin. nothing detected except rose. i like rose, but much prefer two, five & seven's crisp, slightly green rose. not this powdery, soapy floral that's barely recognizable as rose. too girly for me. i'm sure i'll find it a good home elsewhere.

    Grand Guignol

this scent is a bottle of vodka convincing a reluctant apricot to tag along for a night on the town. he promises a good time, but she's not so sure... later, the vodka fades into the crowd and the apricot stands in the spotlight. she's not as sharp as before; the vodka has anchored her, and she's fruity yet warm. not achingly sweet, but somewhat reminiscent of peach jolly ranchers. she's come into her own, and is a star in her own right. unlike other fruity blends, this scent lasts and lasts on me. after 8 hours, it's still detectable on my wrists. which is fabulous, because i'm a huge fruity scent lover and can't get enough of this! i've finally found a fruity bpal oil that lasts longer than 10 minutes, and isn't immediately turned to pure florals (thanks to my skin chemistry). a big bottle, here i come.

    Wolfsbane

i'm a huge fan of greeny/herbals and a half-hearted fan of woody scents, and wolfsbane straddles the two beautifully. my wrists smell like a musty autumn forest, all pine, juniper, and wood. it's simultaneously comforting and exotic. later, it dries down into a more powdery - yet just as gorgeous - green wood. i don't smell rice pudding or rose, though, but i do detect a vaguely powdery floral note lingering in the background. the wildflowers must be quietly announcing their presence. i haven't found many bpal oils that smell good on me, but this is one of them. a big bottle of wolfsbane is in my future.

    Phantasm

This delicate, spectral perfume gives rise to an eerie distortion of of the senses. It bestows an ephemeral, ghostly, and truly haunting quality to your presence. Green tea, lemon verbena, jasmine and neroli. (Sqeee! My first review!) In the bottle: A sweet, light, powdery white floral. More of a teenage girl than a lady who lunches. Wet: Smells of pine and wood, but tempered with a very quiet white floral. Without re-reading the description, I could have sworn this was an aquatic scent. I barely smell the lemon or jasmine; if anything, the green tea and neroli dominate, and form this powdery, woody, fresh scent. I close my eyes, and I'm walking quietly through the woods on a spring morning, aware of the budding flowers and growing saplings, feeling calm and sensing the energy surrounding me. 30 min later: The scent has kept quite true, but is a bit more powdery as it dries down. Soapy. Drydown: Sniffing my wrists yields no scent at all after two hours, but the green and wood notes are still beaming from my neck. This is the BPAL version of Bvlgari's Eau de The Vert (green tea), my signature perfume - I should have noticed they contain the same notes. A bottle of this has my name all over it.
