Okay, this is the third scent that I have tried today and with each one I have gotten a different impression of the scent than all the other reviewers so maybe my body chemistry is off-kilter. Wet, Cancer 07 smells like Pink Moon 05 to me. There is the same slightly dry, grassy note in the background and the same candy sweet, slightly floral scent in the foreground. Once it dries down for a bit, it does take on an ever-so-slight aquatic tinge which tempers the florals and sweetness nicely. Overall, I'm very glad that I purchased it. It will do nicely at the end of the summer when the temperatures start to wind down a bit.

Surprisingly (given my love of BPAL's plum and carnation notes), this does not do it for me. It smells like overpowering apple pie or cheap potpourri. I even had 5 coworkers sniff my wrist just to be sure and they all said "apple pie" as soon as the smelt it.

Sexy, Smutty, Seductive, Provocative... It's All in Here

I can't believe that no one has mentioned Mme. Moriarty - that stuff is SEXY. It's really an amazingly provocative scent (I think it's the red musk). Also, my honey has been telling me how sexy I smell whenever I wear Midway, which surprises me as I don't think of Midway as being a sexy scent, but it works for him so hey -
I received this as a frimp in my last order. I didn't look up the description before trying it on. On my skin, all I could smell was white musk. It would have been nice if the pear scent came through more.

On me, this smells like a single note of headache-inducing jasmine.

I purchased this scent because I wanted to be boozy and dominating - like my beloved Kali... Wet it smells like sticky, grape candy. After drydown, it blooms into this womanly, sophisticated scent - gone is the candy sweetness and it's replaced with a floral, slightly sweet, very slightly boozy scent. It's mature without smelling like "old lady perfume". Ultimately, it's also not me, but still it's well done.

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)
L-z_Empress replied to zillah37's topic in Carnaval Diabolique
When I first opened my bottle of Mme Moriarty, I said to myself "This! This is what everyone has been raving about!". Fortunately, I know that sniffing oils from the bottle can be deceiving so I put the oil on and it still did not smell like anything that I wanted to smell like. It was just this musky scent. Luckily, what I got in the end was not at all similar to the scent when wet. Mme Moriarty is a fruity without being immature scent. It has a base of deep vanilla and it smells like the sexiest, most feminine tease that you ever did meet. I love this one and am glad that it's going to be around until September 2007. Adding these comments 24 hours after the first review: I am wearing the scent again today and it's a bit of a cross between Black Phoenix, Lampades, and Snake Charmer. It has this strange quality where it's creates a cloud of wafty, lovely scent around me, but when I smell my skin, it's only a very light scent. I'm not sure how such a light scent can have so much throw, but it's very warm and sexy It also lasted on my skin all day yesterday until I bathed. -
This oil smells awful on me. It smells like old apple and cinammon (fall harvest) potpourri and something bitter. The crazy thing is that it smells even worse before drydown. ADDED Dec. 29: After reading the other reviews posted here, I have come to the conclusion that something must be deeply wrong with my body chemistry because this scent smells like nothing but old, dusty, been-closed-up-for-too-long attic when on me. It's definitely one of my least favourite BPAl scents.

I am having a bad day with my BPAL order because everything in this package is making me sad. This was a freebie from the lab and I swear it smells like an exact dupe of Robitussin when wet and Luden's cough drops once it has dried down. It is not for me and it's actually making me feel ill.

I thought I would love this one, but I was soooo wrong. Although, I don't know if it's the actual scent or if my chemistry is just mucking it up. At first it is dry, dusty cedar which of course is totally unappealing. After 30 minutes or so I catch whiffs of a slightly sweet mint which is actually rather pleasant (except that it fades 20 minutes later), but if I put my nose up to my wrist when I am smelling the mint, I smell nothing but the cedar scent. I think this one is going up for sale/swap....

Her scent is bewitching, almost intoxicating: a sensual incense of crushed mums, red ginger, and pulsing musk … and the air is thick with leaden brown opium smoke that hangs thickly over a seductive mixture of red musk, body-warmed perfume, and hypnotic Eastern flowers. This is my favourite of the lunacy blends that I have tried this year (which are admittedly few because the notes this year tend not to appeal to me). However, there have been significantly better lunacy blends in the previous years (Pink Moon, Chaste Moon and Milk Moon all come to mind). On me, this smells similar to last year's Harvest Moon without the cider and apple notes. It has the spice of HM, with a little more sweetness to it. And of course, it also has more of a floral quality. It is definitely an autumn scent. It is not long lasting and stays extremely close to the skin. I suspect that it would make a nice room scent though because it is completely unobtrusive and nonoffensive. Overall, it's just an okay scent. I will keep my bottle, but I am glad that I did not order multiples because they would have gone up for sale or swap.

Yes, neroli is the same thing as orange blossom and to me it is a floral scent. I would say that Loralei is my favourite neroli/orange blossom blend from BPAL. It is almost astringent at first, but after a short drydown it is everything that an orange blossom blend should be IMHO. Sorry that I cannot answer your question about the patchouli-orange blossom oils. I have tried them, but I don't have a recollection of what they specifically smelled like. I only remember that they did not work with my chemistry.

No contest, Snake Charmer is the be-all end-all of "follow me boy" scents. I literally have tons of men follow me around like love sick teenagers whenever I wear it. And when I tell them the fragrance is called Snake Charmer they always say that it is quite apropos After that I would go with Snake Oil, Kali, or Bathsheba. -
Wine, Beer, Rum, Bourbon... the booze scents

Kali is one of my favourite BPAL scents and it also has a red wine note. It doesn't smell boozy, per se, it has more of a tempered berry note that is really grounded by the dark chocolate, tobacco, and balsam notes in the blend. It is one of the sexiest scents I have ever smelled and it is the fragrance that originally got me hooked on BPAL. Another sexy wine scent you might want to try is Wanda. She's a hottie, I'm talking "fiyah". Also, some of the other scents that have wine notes in them such as Lady MacBeth and Bordello smell like sweet-sweet grapes. -
I received this one as a freebie and I don't get any berries or grass out of this scent. All I get is an herbal, soapy smell that is slightly sweet and slightly headache inducing. I think that Amsterdam is a much nicer/prettier variation on this theme.

At first this smells like the spiciest cinnamon candy and then it turns into powdery, spicy cinnamon. It is long lasting, but I can do without it

Okay, I am the queen of freshly shipped from Africa shea butter. I use it in my hair, I use it on my skin, hell, I'll use it to cook with if it's the good stuff. My point is that I KNOW what fresh, real, pure (i.e. not cut with chemcials) shea butter smells like probably moreso than most people do and I just don't smell it in this and it makes me sad because it's the primary reason I bought a 10 mL of Obatala unsniffed. Okay, that and I love coconut scents. I do have to agree with everyone in else in that it is almost an exact dupe of Milk Moon without the slightly sour milk note that lingered. I will keep my bottle of Obatala, but once it's gone I don't think I will buy another.

I tend to get chased around by random men when I wear Snake Charmer But Kali is most definitely the scent that makes me feel the sexiest. -
BPAL for fancy, elegant and formal occasions

Loralei is a light, but sexy perfume that would work well for a wedding. Or maybe Lampades. -
I purchased this scent because tea notes are my favourite and because I have yet to purchase a lunacy blend that I did not love. Unfortunately, when I first put on Holiday Moon, I said aloud, "what the hell?!?!" LOL. Upon application it is a very strong citrus/floral and just not my cup of tea, I was actually about to go wash it off and put my two bottles up for swap. But then after about 10 minutes something happened, the scent dried down and I got this light, green, tea-ish, and slightly floral scent that is wonderful. This is more along the lines of what I was hoping for. It smells clean and proper with a teeny hint of something slightly spicy. For me it instantly brings up feelings of serenity. It's a keeper.

HM 05 is one of the only lunacy blends that I have purchased (and I have lots of them) that really did nothing for me. It smells like cheap potpourri in the bottle and once applied to my skin, it gives me a headache. As a room scent it is not so bad, but it also not nice. I don't know what it is about that is so offputting, but it is definitely not my thing.
-
I don't know what else to say about this except that it is not my cup of tea (even though I thought that I would love it). To me it smells exactly like the iced tea scent that Skindazzles.com puts out. Oh well, will be putting the imp up for swap.

After reading others reviews, I am starting to wonder if I actually got an imp of Hamadryad or something else. Either way, it is a gorgeous, bright and sweet, but not at all in a sexy way, more in a subtle wholesome goodness way. I smell no cinnamon (which is making me question if the lab send the wrong thing by accident or mislabelled or something) instead I get something sweet like an apple almost, but it's not fruity and a bit of floral grounded with a slight wooded scent. Whatever it is, I like it very much and am planning on ordering a 5 mL of it.

ah it's alright. nothing to rave about. it smells exactly like the homemade oatmeal, milk, and honey soap that i used to use all of the time.

I just realized that I never reviewed this despite that it's one of my favourite BPALs. There's this spot at home (Jamaica) that whenever hubby and I drive through, I make sure to roll down the window and sniff the air. Santo Domingo is the smell of that air. Ironic, that it's named Santo Domingo. I think it should be changed to "Discovery Bay". When I smell Santo Domingo, I see home in my mind. I see the trees loaded with pink blossoms that are big enough to hold in two hands. I see the Caribbean Sea and smell the slight saltiness of it on the air. I smell the slight smell of burning that is always here. The smell of cane burning and bushes being burned to clear land. I smell Jamaica.
