Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?
Nemesister replied to Absinthe's topic in Recommendations
I always think that Snake Charmer smells like a mix of O and Snake Oil. You can't go wrong with Snake Oil anyway...cept those weirdos that don't like it -
Somnus and Oneroi are incredibly herbal. Of course, they are recommended as night time oils. should work as daytime though, if you are sure you'll never need them to help you sleep!

I'm glad someone finally mentioned this scent. I bought some when it was available for my husband who is a mad Clint Eastwood/spaghetti western film fan. He gave it one sniff and announced it smelled like "new shoes" I swapped it....

Oils with the strongest throw or sillage - the most noticeable scents
Nemesister replied to lunalight7's topic in Recommendations
and BPAL is the only kind of perfume that i will buy before i try as i know if it doesn't work for me, i can easily swap/ebay it to someone that loves it and i can buy more snake oil! i'm trying to expand my perfume horizons within BPAL, but when half the office refers to me as the one that smells gorgeous and line up to sniff me, it's hard to want to try anything else other than snake oil....and try explaining to them that the smell they are addicted to is called that....could be worse, it could be smut! -
Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
Nemesister replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
I would definitely e-mail customer service for that one, TofuWarrior. The folks at the Lab are the only people who could have the definitive answer for that question. good thinking. i might be cheeky and ask for a list of 'safe' scents -

one of the receptionists at work commented that she could smell my gorgeous perfume (snake oil) from across the street on a windy day.....it was then i decided i was definitely a slatherer -
expect a box in a big envelope. box will be about the size of 3 stacked DVDs. i.e. it won't go through your letterbox....i suspect you will get home to find a card....

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
Nemesister replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
i wanted to buy jester for a friend. she is allergic to coconut. is that going to be a problem? i know it's not listed as an ingredient, but what about carrier oils? -
Looking for BPAL that resembles a Body Shop scent
Nemesister replied to zennun's topic in Recommendations
i wear snake oil with the vanilla spice range. it complements it rather than being the same. i bet snake charmer would be more like it though. *wanders off to find last bottle of snake charmer to check* -
golden priapus is a wonderful scent....once the pine toilet cleaner disappears! i'd recommend that and tombstone.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

i get that if i apply certain (most) BPALs after a shower. however, phantasm never, ever stings -
Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
Nemesister replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
most cinnamon blends will leave red blotches on my sensitive areas. my writs, elbow and neck will usually suffer. inferno was the worst and can never be used! snake oil sometimes burns if i put it on just after a shower. in fact most BPAL blends do. or maybe i just prefer the spicier scents and they will burn. never had a problem with mint though, thankfully! -
BPAL Fruit Blends - the many variations
Nemesister replied to PilotKitten's topic in Recommendations
I had the exact opposite experience, and would recommend the exact opposite course of action. ^^; On me, Blood Countess is smoky, deep and dark fruit, hardly any sweetness at all. Bordello is like some sort of artificial candy sweet smell. ooh it's that chemistry thing again. -
BPAL Fruit Blends - the many variations

try: embalming fluid - lemony but not sweet - more of a lemon tea scent phantasm - jasmine and lemon bordello - red boozy fruitiness, not too sweet for me anyway if i remember rightly eve and eden were soft, creamy fruit scents avoid: lady macbeth - fruit sweets blood countess - as above swank - alcoholic boiled sweets! the hamptons - as above march hare - apricot and clove! tintagel - was fruity but last time i used it it was almost pure cinnamon/clove. maybe my imp has gone off! forbidden fruit - very sweet hollywood babylon - very sweet strawberry champers! -
i finished the ribbed scarf!!!!! i actually finished it a couple of weeks ago, but i've been without t'internet. i need to upload a pic to prove it. i have now started on a cotton halterneck top in a gorgeous burgundy/plum colour. i'm speeding up with my knitting and i'm knitting 'tighter'. not sure how to explain. it's not that i was knitting too loose, just that my stitches are now uniform. my knitting now looks like the pics given as demonstrations of new stitch patterns. and this project is cheaper. £5-£7.50 depending on whether i do need to use the 3rd ball of yarn.
-
but i am now halfway through the ribbed scarf. i cannot wait for this to be finished, but i think i might be looking at another whole month....damn me having a full-time (and then some) job! i read somewhere of a woman whose job is designing and hand knitting a range of clothes. if i had to live on what i made from knitting i'd need to charge £10,000 per item! i think i might have finally understood knitting in the round - not that i've tried it yet....'walking before i can run' etc etc ad nauseum..... i am starting to realise how expensive knitting is. i wanted to make a bath mat from a pattern and worked out that it would cost me $212 (without shipping to UK) for the yarn. if i can't afford to buy a bath mat then i most certainly can't afford to make one!

some kntting thoughts....
Nemesister commented on Nemesister's blog entry in How difficult could it be?
thanks for your comments both of you. some useful advice there. and 'wow' @ items only taking you 2-3 weeks to make......i am so slow but as a resident of the UK i scoff at your 'low' temperatures unless you like in alaska, in that case, you win -
Changing the definition
Nemesister commented on parrot_suspect's blog entry in What ever happened to Generation X?
i think everyone goes through that at some point. i'm 35, a mother to a 15yo, have a partner, full time job and i'm just too tired to have that lifestyle! my son will most likely move out before i'm 40 or if not, will be 21 when i'm 40 anyway, so i could in theory have that lifestyle back.........not sure i want it, though. we look at people that remind us of ourselves a decade or longer ago as we are wistful for the freedom of those days, but we are different people now. it could be that we are no longer in control of every part of our lives. mortgages, families and grown up stuff do that to us! can i join you with the wistful sighing at young vibrant women in their early 20s? -
swank - you must try this! the hamptons - see above! 21 grog juke joint pumpkin patch - the pomegranite one f5 smells of lime to me. margaritas maybe and for non-alcoholic days: kumiho dormouse embalming fluid mata hari - smells coffeeish to me gluttony - smells like a hazelnut coffee i once had

so i bought stitch n bitch. so i completed the garter stitch scarf. i'm now on the 'ribbed for her pleasure' scarf. it's taking an age! ok, so maybe i haven't been spending as much time on it as i should have, but the scarf needs to be 64" long.....so far it's 10" i never thought i'd get completely bored of a project before i finished it. does that happen to other people? am i just impatient? i want to knit a sweater ffs! and by the time i finish this scarf it'll be april and too warm to wear it. *sigh*
-
now i feel better! i've been comparing myself to a friend who started knitting the same time as i did. she made 4 ribbed scarves as xmas presents in colours specially selected for each recipient. i bought lots of yarn in different colours and on december 20th bought yankee candles as presents instead i've done a bit more to the scarf whilst watching in her shoes. i now have a tear stained face and about 15" of scarf

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)
Nemesister replied to zillah37's topic in Carnaval Diabolique
wet this smells medicinal. herby and green but with snake oil in the background. it's like layering snake oil over muscle linament! not sure i like this. i'm going to age it a bit and see whether as usually happens the medicinal, earthy scents fade and the spices come out stronger. -
your knitting looks fabulous i've recently started knitting. it's not going as well as yours, but i'll get there! you can be my inspiration

Oils to relax, calm, soothe, restore your sanity...
Nemesister replied to Shollin's topic in Recommendations
i try to train myself to use a scent to calm myself down. cheshire cat has been my one for a couple of years now. when you are happy/relaxed etc put on a certain scent (the one you would like to be your calm scent). do this every time you feel that way. before too long, just putting on the oil will recreate that feeling, so whenever you are feeling stressed or anxious you could have a BPAL that's instant calm ETA possibly no good for you immediately, but delayed gratification is always better -
I'm not sure what fig smells like, but I thought I'd be able to pick the mandarin out. to me, this smells just like March Hare. I guessed the main ingredient as being apricot then looked to see the description.....Mandarin and fig....No cigar, then! It is lovely though. Totally different to how I thought it would smell. I imagined a dark, smoky Perversion type scent so fruity is a surprise!
