You know-I think this is one of the earliest frimps I ever received. I am sure I have sniffed this eons ago, but apparently I never reviewed it! Since I don't remember it at all, it's time to give it another whirl. I'm not a huge patchouli or sandalwood fan-usually I can only take those notes as the backdrop in other blends, not as the main event. Amber is also hit or miss-it tends to go powdery on me. I like cinnamon but I already have a handful of cinnamon blends. In the imp this is powdery/ambery patchouli/woods. The cinnamon is there, but not in your face omg strong cinnamon. It's in the background, giving this a hint of spice. This is actually a very pleasant scent on my skin-a warm cinnamon patchouli scent. However, as it starts to dry more of the sandalwood comes out and i'm just not a huge fan of sandalwood on myself as perfume. It always feels a little pencil-shavings-y. On full drydown, this is a warm, pleasant spiced patchouli mix. The cinnamon here is really lovely-doesn't go hyperpowered red hots-warm brown cinnamon stick cinnamon and rich patchouli. The amber doesn't go too powdery. This is a nice blend, but it's not really my thing. However, patchouli and cinnamon lovers should definitely check this out-it's beautiful!

Ooof-sweet honey and ylang ylang. Like WHOA ylang ylang. I can do ylang ylang mixed with other stuff, but sometimes it is just too overpowering O_o Hnnnnggh, yeah the ylang ylang is just soooo heavy in this. There's something so sickeningly sweet about it. Thankfully, while I get that rough first blast when I initially apply, it immediately begins to mellow into a sweet floral honey scent with a touch of musk. On drydown, this just sort of fades to a generic bpal honey scent. Not bad, but nothing special-I have other bpal honey scents I enjoy more and the ylang ylang at the start of this one was a bit too offputting.

    Halloween: Los Angeles

The sky on fire: a strange incense of burning brush, junegrass, tumbleweeds, chaparral, and wild sage. Like Beth, I grew up in Los Angeles. The San Fernando valley to be exact, where we had more than our fair share of fires. I can remember school being evacuated on more than one occasion because of them in fact. While fire/burning scents are not something I really want to wear as perfume, they can conjure up scent memories for me. In the imp, this is an incensey/sagey scent. Not quite as smokey or gritty as the fires I remember. Ok, on my skin I get a bit more of that black smoke/grit scent that I associate with the fires around here. The sage note is very strong. There is definitely a 'burnt' feel to this blend. A tad sour. On drydown this is sort of a burnt wood/sage incense type smell. Still not quite the fires I remember, but a lot more pleasant!

Oo-two of the notes in this I love-vanilla and sassafras (squee!) but two I am no fan of (balsam and cedar)-wood notes tend to amp and overpower on me =/ But if they behave in this, it could be amazing. In the imp, this smells like what it sounds like-sweet vanilla, sassafras and woods-I'll admit I can't tell the difference between cedar and balsam, but it smells cedar-y to me. Yeah, on my skin I just loooove the vanilla and sassafras-omg if it was just those two I would be SO in. I just don't love cedar. From far away I mostly just smell vanilla and sassafras, up close I mostly smell cedar. You know what this reminds me of? Love's Philosophy! A more subdued LP + cedar. On full drydown, the cedar actuall seems to retreat a little bit more. This is really a lovely blend. The wood is never TOO woody (lol), though if you like wood (lol) this may not be enough wood for you (snerk). It really really does remind me of Love's Philosophy, so if you are wondering whether that blend is something you should try to find, get an imp of this and imagine it without the cedar at all. I wouldn't need a bottle of this, but it's a great blend.

You know, based on the notes in this, I never thought it would really be for me. I generally don't like anything olive, and I'm not much of a myrrh/frankincense kinda girl. But when I sniffed this at will call, I fell in love. In the bottle, to me, this is mostly a warm, sweet cake scent. Don't really notice the pom or olive leaf, but I definitely get a bit of the wine grapes and a touch of the myrrh and frankincense. Sooo pretty. Once this is on my skin, the olive leaf comes out a bit more. Again, it's not usually a note I like, but god, this blend is just so genius and perfect. Just so well blended-it's hard to pick out specific notes-it's just this gorgeous, rich sweet warm cake blend with a touch of fruitiness and incense. The only downside of this blend is that on me, it faded very fast and had to be reapplied constantly. It's totally worth it though. This has easily become one of my top favorites.

    Undertow

Huh-interesting! A bit sweeter than I would have expected. Sweet juniper and mint. Fresh and pleasant. On my skin I start to get the lotus a bit-it really mixes well with the juniper and mint. The juniper is definitely the strongest note, an the other two compliment it really well. This does have a fizzy quality to it-I can see how others would get a 7-up vibe, Hmmm, for some reason as this dries, it starts to go pencil shavings-y on me. Some blends just do this-I haven't figured out which notes cause it. Yeah, I liked this when it was first on-that fizzy sweet juniper mint scent was lovely, but it goes to pencil shavings way too fast Since I am not a huge locket fan, this is one I will have to skip.

    Beaver Moon 2010

I loved Beaverversary, but Beaver Moon '08 didn't do it for me. I was so curious to try this one-in the bottle, it's not as cheesecakey as the other Beavers were. More sweet and syrupy and fruity-I looove the peach note. Mmm--this is soo yummy on my skin! I still don't really get cheesecake from this-maybe a touch of graham crackery crust, but lots of sweet syrupy pinky peachy glaze! Sooo good! I can see why some would be disappointed in this considering it is not really chceesecakey the way the other Beavers are. While I love me some cheesecake, I still absolutely adore this blend. I love love love the peach note, and this is just sweet sticky sugar blasted candy strawberry peach glaze deliciousness!

    The Shadowy And The Sublime

In the imp, this is a pretty light floral mint, with a touch of amber. I fear this is going to go SUPER powdery on my skin. This is more of a winter scent than a fall scent to me. On my skin-very pretty! Soft sweet white mint and white florals. Very very pretty-the white rose peeks out-so lovely and subdued-doesn't go strong or sour. Overall, this is very pretty-did not ever end up going to powdery doom on me at all. Just a sweet minty floral. Probably don't need a bottle of this because I have other lovely bpal winter mints, but this is a gorgeous blend!

    Red Devil

Gah, in the imp to me this is strong heady floral-like jasmine-totally different than all of the other reviews O_o I almost wonder if this imp is mislabeled. Will have to see what happens when it goes on my skin. Yeah, this is like suuuuuper strong jasmine with a touch of sweet candyish syrup scent over it. Annnnd, this like...disappears insanely fast. The strong floral scent died down first, leaving me maybe a syrupy sweet dragon blood scent? Then -poof- nothing! Gonna have to pass this one along!

    Phobos

Lemon candy-very much reminiscent of lemonheads in the imp. Maybe veers a little into cleaning product territory. Yes...it's a fight between lemonheads and lemon pledge...though maybe veering a little towards pledge, or lemon wood cleaner... The whole time I wore this it was that same battle. Ultimately, it leaned more towards lemon floor cleaner. There are other fresh citrussy bpals I will stick to

    The Unsavory Grave-Diggers

Hmm...in the imp this is sort of a sour, dirt-y earth and greens scent. Kind of sharp. Yerghh. Yeah on my skin this is like a sharp rotting woody scent and dirt and dying greenery. I don't really smell booze, but like some other reviews, I get sort of a sweet/sour fruity note instead. The more it dries, I get more of that fruity note O_o Very weird. This faded INSANELY fast. All I was left with was like, a whiff that wood/fruit scent-but SO so faint. What a weird blend. Definitely not something I need a bottle of.

    Thanatos

To me, on first sniff, this was almost all wood in the imp. I am very sensitive to woods and they tend to amp on me, so I'm not sure if this blend will work. The rose is desperately trying to peek over the wood, but it is so strong. Not really getting much resin or incense to be honest. It's 85% wood, 15% rose. Yeah, this ended up being a totally meh blend on me. Ended up just being soft sandalwoody scent. Nothing special.

    White Pumpkin Extrait

Yum!! Buttery BUTTERY vanilla pumpkin scent. Did I mention buttery? For a second, this smelled like straight up butter to me. Paula Deen would be all over this Very sweet, creamy, buttery pumpkin. It's a nice change from a lot of the other pumpkin-y scents that are much darker/heavily spiced-not that those aren't delicious, but this is a great change of pace. It's more vanilla-y to me than pumpkin-y to be honest. Overall, I like this quite a bit-I imagine it would have been HUGELY popular as an option to buy on its own. Super sweet vanilla and BUTTERY buttery pale pumpkin. Yum!

    Sea of Glass

Kind of reminds me of embalming fluid in the imp...a light, slightly citrussy white floral blend. Very delicate and clean. Yes, this is absolutely lovey-kind of what I wanted embalming fluid to be! A fresh, clean white floral with a twist of yellow citrus. Honestly, this is totally gorgeous and I want a bottle. The most perfect citrus kissed white floral. Just a touch sweet. Doesn't go super powdery. I am in love!

2010 Version: I thought this sounded lovely last year, but never went for it because I already had Punkie Night and Fearful Pleasure, so I felt like I was covered on cidery scents. But, I got myself an imp this this year and can't help but be curious if I will like this one better than either of those. Huh...in the imp this is kind of weird...maybe it's the ale note...there's something sort of sharp and odd about this. It almost smells like apple juice that is starting to turn bad. On my skin this smells like a mix of apple and grape juice O_o As it dries, it gets a bit more cidery and "nutty". Yes, as it dries it is definitely a warm, mashed apple cider. Definitely get a touch of ginger, but not much other spices. Very very appley. This dries down nicely-a warm, mild apple cider scent. I should note, normally milk notes are baby formula on me, but I did not have that problem here at all. Also, as a also mentioned, this is a mild cider-not highly spiced. It's a pleasant autumn scent, but I think with already having Punkie Night I can live without this.

    Rakshasa

I have recently become a fan of the lab's rose. Sandalwood and Patchouli are VERY hit or miss with me. Usually they only work if they are buried in a blend, but not as the main stars. Oof, in the imp this is sort of a sharp sour rose + woods. Not noticing too much patchouli. On my skin I get a lot more of the patchouli...this is sort of a mishmash of dirt wood and roses. And something sort of sour and chemically =/ As it dries, it starts to veer towards pencil shavings category...yeah, wow total pencil shavings! Yeah, from far away I still got roses for a while, but close up, all pencil shavings. On full drydown, it was basically pencil shavings city.

    Anathema

Oy vey. So I am on a grand quest to test all the gcs...since I have gone through most of the ones I actually WANTED to test I am starting to hit the ones at the bottom of my list-ie all the blends with vetiver :x Opium is meh for me, but I really don't like honeysuckle or vetiver, so this should be interesting. In the imp-omg vetiver. Sadly, that is all I smell. On my skin, it starts of OMG vetiver, but as it dries, calms down a little. I do get the honeysuckle a bit, which helps mellow out the vetiver. Not really noticing the opium too much-it's probably mushing together with the vetiver to my nose. It almost smells a little like black leather as it dries. I don't normally like honeysuckle, but it is saving this blend from being unbearable to me. Ends up fully drying down to powdery vetiver. Gonna have to pass this impy along.

    A Howl In The Darkness

Oh, this is lovely in the imp. Not something I would have jumped for based on the notes, but smells great in the imp-a clean, blast of minty/citrussy pine. Yes, a very nice winter scent to me-musky, maybe a touch cologney citrussy/pine scent. Very unisex. Sort of a fresh citrussy cologne with an undertone of woods? A touch of minty sweetness. Honestly, this is such a gorgeous blend! The only bummer is I found it faded a bit quickly into sort of a sweet powder, but overall, I can totally see myself grabbing a bottle of this. Not something I would normally be into-I thought this would be really dark and woody, but it's more of a clean fresh, musky citrus/mint/wood cologne. If I could get my bf to wear bpal I bet this would smell amazing on him.

    Baron Samedi

A notorious voodoo priest, who eventually rose to become one of the funereal Guédés, alongside Baron Cimitère and Baron La Croix. He is a Guardian of the Crossroads: the pathways between our world and the realm of the spirits. As a Master of the Graveyard, he ensures that burial rites are performed with skill, and he helps ferry souls to the dark realm. In his honor, we have created this scent: our spin on traditional Bay Rum. Oh crap, I am scared. All the reviews say vetiver and I didn't think bay rum = vetiver. To be fair though, I don't really know what bay rum IS. Wiki tells me its: Bay rum is the name of a cologne/aftershave lotion. Other uses include as under-arm deodorant and as a fragrance for shaving soap, as well as a general astringent. It is a distillate that was originally made from rum and the leaves and/or berries of the West Indian Bay tree, Pimenta racemosa. Other ingredients may be citrus and spice oils, the most common being limes, clove and cinnamon. Huh. Interesting. Oh god, yes, in the imp this is smacking me in the face with vetiver. It's always tough for me to review vet scents because all I smell is vetiver and can't even pick up any other notes. Ok, when it first goes on my skin it actually smells ok because I get a blast of spices and clove, which are lovely, but they quickly die down and it's back to mostly a vetiver smell. Maybe a bit of woods. By far this smells the best when it is wet on my skin. It really does get a rich, spiced, dark, woody scent with the vetiver being docile underneath. But on full drydown it's basically straight up dark vetiver. Just not a note I can do!

    Magdalene

Whoooa floral. Very very floral. A resin-y white rose scent. Pretty but...may end up being a bit old ladyish? Yep, on my skin it's indeed a resiny white rose scent. A little sour...but still pleasant. The resin grounds this and holds it together from being total floral doom. This actually dries down quite pretty-from far away I get whiffs of a mature (but not old lady-ish) sophisticated rose scent. It may be a bit too mature for me, considering I usually smell like baked goods or candy, but it really is quite beautiful. I have really been warming up to the lab's rose scents recently. Overall, this is a very pretty, subdued resin white rose scent. Lovely and understated...gentle is a good way of putting it. Probably not something I would run out and buy (because there are a few other lab rose scents that really wow-ed me) but one I would absolutely recommend rose lovers sniff!

    Pumpkin Latte

Ok, I looove pumpkin lattes, and even though I am a huuuge foody...I'm not sure I want to smell like one. In the imp this is pretty much what it sounds like-a heavily spiced pumpkin latte. Makes me want to go to Sbux right now :x It's a bit stronger on the spiced pumpkin than on the latte, at least in the imp. Nyeerrghh on my skin the cinnamon is SO STRONG. I like cinnamon, but this is overwhelming. O_o It's odd, because the other reviews don't get this at all. But this is like 80% cinnamon, 15% pumpkin, 5% coffee. I'ma let it settle and see how it goes on my skin. The cinnamon/spice calms down a lot on my skin-still there, but way more mellowed. I still get waaaaay more pumpkin than coffee. This sort of reminds me a spiced pumpkin pie scent. Yummy, but honestly not something I would really wear. May dump this rest of this into my scentbug tho :x

    Deep in Earth

In the imp: Dirt dirt dirt. Moist dirt. Floral dirt. Did I mention dirt? Dirt scents aren't me, however, there is something sort of clean and pretty about this dirt. You know, I take it back, I shouldn't be calling it dirt-I do think moist earth is more appropriate. Dirt implies a dryness and this is rich, saturated earth. Ok, on my skin this is actually a lot more floral-the earth scent actually falls to the background, and the rose geranium is up front and center. Sort of sweet and rosy. As this dries though, it becomes a bit more equal between the earthy notes and the floral notes. As this dries it gets more and more soapy. The dirt/earth note nearly goes away completely. On full drydown, it really smells more like a soapy rosy scent. O_o Interesting blend, but not for me. A LOT of morphing for this one.

    Plastic Jack O'lantern Soap

One word: YUM! Ok, more words. This is a fun, sugary sweet candy explosion! I can see how some would compare it to Lush's Rock Star soap, but maybe at like 1/2-3/4 strength. I can't really pick out specific notes in this-I would just call it yummy candy goodness. A wonderful soap that is SO up my alley! One note, it has a weird black/brownish lather...not a huge deal, it's just a little gross because it looks kind of like dirt when you rub it on your skin. It washes off easily though. Again, not a big deal, just made me do a double take. Couple quick extra notes: The Good: The first few days I had this in my bathroom, it scented it up really nice! My whole bathroom smelled like candy! The Bad: This melted REALLY fast. The bar did not last long, which is sort of a bummer because these soaps aren't cheap!

    Jezirat Al Tennyn

Kind of a dark, smoky, ashy scent in the imp. There's something sharp and acrid that comes out on mu skin. I can also see where people get a touch of mint in this. Dark, and burnt, and gritty. It's interesting on my skin...sort of hard to describe because it is dark and smoky but also a bit sweet and minty. Maybe even cinnamony? A hard scent to pin down. Not something I would wear but a very interesting scent and totally worth trying.

    Daya

So glad I am getting a chance to sniff this-missed the will call last year when it was given out, but got a couple of imps of it from the most recent Halloween will call! This is a warm spicy/spiced woody scent when I sniff it from the imp. Yep, slightly sweet, spiced, cinnamony wood. A bit resiny as well. This is very warm and pleasant. A good fall scent. Dries down to a lightly spiced wood scent. Pleasant, but not really my thing. This reminds me of another bpal, but I can't really pin down what. Soft, slightly powdery warm spiced wood.
