in the imp: like cough medicine. or poison. or both. wet on skin: like bug spray with rose afterthought. i can't *believe* how awful this is on me! dry down: the rose comes out more, but it's like rose poured into cold and flu formula. it's sticky sweet and grape-y and just really really unpleasant. in all: whoa. this has GOT to go.
-
in the imp: very fruity. the apricot pops right out, but it's not fruity; it's refreshing. wet on skin: i can smell the apricot, the roses, and an undernote of sweet musk. very deep in it's overall fragrance. dry down: the apricot again rises to the surface, but it's mixed with the musk to produce something spicy and almost woodsy in the aftermath. in all: a complex and dreamy affair. a bit too cloying for my pallet, but some would certainly wear it religiously.

in the bottle: spicy, resinous. like carnation with a touch of clove. wet on skin: the carnation and the dragon's blood peeps out. (the Lab's Dragon's Blood smells like lilac to me, btw) dry down: oohhh, this is a heady one! like a combination of lilac, spicy carnation and dark violets. ::swoon:: in all: i'll certainly be wearing THIS one a LOT over this long winter!
-
in the bottle: sweet, dark, resinous. nothing definable, just...rich. wet on skin: a fantastic lilac scent dominates. it's hard for me to find lilacs in frangrances that don't smell like chemical-soap nastiness, but this smells like actual lilac FLOWERS. dry down: lilacs all the way. BEAUTIFUL. in all: a divine floral, for any time of year, and any reason.

in the imp: chocolate and dirt in equal measure: right up my alley! wet on skin: the chocolate increases, adding a touch of roasted nuts- it's like Tell Tale Heart, with dirt in it. love! dry down: GORGEOUS! Rich-earth couples with chocolate and a faint hint of mist. I could die in this scent and be happy! over all: fantastic! i *must* get a full size bottle!

in the imp: rose and something darkly violet. so far, so good wet on skin: much of the same. there's a candy-quality to it, like candied flower petals. not bad. dry down: the candy aspect goes away, leaving a perfect, exact 50-50 balance between the violet and the rose. like hope and Faith mixed together, minus the sugar. in all: a lovely floral for anyone that loves those two main components.

i have high hopes for this one, as i love both smoky, resinous scents and violet. so let's hope... in the imp: all resin. the frankincense in strong and sweet. wet on skin: more of the frankincense, and a spicy tone of cinnamon. mmmm! dry down: a beautiful mix of the two aforementioned scents. alas, no violet to be found, however in all: a lovely winter-time oil, but don't expect the violet. ::sniff::
-
in the imp: lavender followed closely by rose. slightly medicinal. wet on skin: lavender much stronger now, the honeysuckle just barely peeking in. dry down: the honeysuckle comes out dramatically, and the lavender is more of an afterthought. the rose is distant in the mix, but adding something to it. in all: a light, pretty floral, though personally not my thing. ::shrugs::

the 'water' based blends don't seem to agree with my nose, but i will try anything BPAL once, so here goes (fingers crossed) in the imp: LOVELY! a beautiful mix of something aqua and violet, which is my personal favorite floral in the world. wet on skin: more of the same, with the violet coming out in front by just a hair. dry down: the water aspect is gone and the violet is now mixed with the tiniest amount of lavender. it's soothing, pleasant and lovely. in all: a floral i can dance with, i'd wear this one to my wedding, a night walking on the beach, or any place else where romance ala "Room With A View" style might happen!
-
in the imp: the sticky-muskiness of vetiver mixes heavily with opium poppy, straight up, like being hit over the head with it. wet on skin: the vetiver recedes somewhat, leaving the opium in the forefront and the honeysuckle *just* peeking out. dry down: it smells like suntan lotion- specifically the version of Bain de Soliel that was made in the mid-80's! random, i know, but that's what this smells like to me. it's not bad or anything, just unexpected. in all: if you like the strange floral under currents of suntan lotion, you will sincerely love this. for me, it's taking me back to junior high (not sure if that's good or not...)
-
in the imp: total lavender and neroli experience. very essential oil blend-style. wet on skin: more of the same, but with a bit of cat mint thrown in for good measure, which gives it a nice balance. dry down: the mint comes to the foreground and it becomes more round and lovely. over all: though not much of a floral person, this is really beautiful, and would definitely use this before sleep if i was aiming for some prophetic dream work!

i have to say that i went into this one being...apprehensive. although i've been doing spell craft for about 20 years, old-time traditional spell oil blends give me the willies. but anything for the sake of BPAL in the imp: a dark, medicinal dort of rose combines with something that smells like cough syrup. meh. wet on skin: the medicinal aspects vanish-thankfully- and what's left is something dark, like cypress, but with a more floral edge- perhaps magnolia. dry down: the rose comes back with a vengeance. but there's a more sinister undercurrent. i'm thinking it's the cypress but the notes are so well blended, it's impossible to distinguish, which gives it mystery, which i like. over all: not my favorite rose, but i'd keep it around for the magickal benefits at least. ::shrug::

in the imp: strongly lemon verbena, with a bit of sage just at the end. wet on skin: more of the same, but now the lemon mellows slightly to smell more like lemon drop candy. dry down: the sage disappears entirely, and it's just the sweet/tart smell of lemon verbena. in all: if you like citrus scents, this is a keeper. me personally, it's not really my thing.
-
in the imp: magnolia, spice. mmmmm wet on skin: the spice receded a bit, and the magnolia is coming forward, and mixing with another spicy floral- carnation. dry down: the spice comes back. it's doesn't smell like a single note, but like an assortment of christmastime spices- ginger, nutmeg, a tiny bit of cinnamon, plus the carnation and the magnolia in the background. in all: a lovely, musky floral, it's one for a 'crossover' audience- those that like deep smoky fragrances as well as those that like florals will take to this one.

in the bottle: cherry candy all the way. someone said pixy stix, and i must agree. wet on skin: still with the cherry candy, but now it's more of a luden's cough drop sort. which i have fond childhood memories of. dry down: cherry, cherry and cherry some more. the dragon's blood is here, but in a more candy-like form than i'm used to! over all: sweet, mild and fruity, this is something i'd be apt to wear fro just daily running-errands time, and honestly, the world needs some of those.
-
i acquired a beautifully aged bottle of this not long ago, but i was saving a dark chilly night for trying it out... in the bottle: gorgeous spicy notes, though not necessarily cinnamon, combine with something more sexy- dragon's blood, perhaps? wet on skin: the cinnamon starts to show itself, but not in an over powering x-mas potpourri kinf of way, more of a subtle spicy way. it's really, really good. dry down: all spicy and a hint of dragon's blood. as usual, something extremely complex. over all: one to wear on those long winter nights in the passionate arms of your loved one!

in the bottle: cypress resin and wet earth- WOW! wet on skin: more of the same, really. the earthiness is still there coming on strong, but now there's a hint of sea weed underneith. dry down: the resin has remained. there's a masculine sort of woodsy-ness to this. in all: i like it, but not for me. excepting on the darkest of autumnal evenings. otherwise i'm more inclined to pass it or have my boyfriend wear it.

in the bottle: something lightly fruity, like pears, with an after note of roasted nuts. wet on skin: the nuttiness comes more to the surface and the fruit takes a pleasant back seat. dry down: both disappear completely and i'm left with a smell of funeral flowers- it must be the iris and a very, very soft undercurrent of cognac and cream. over all: it's funny, because i havent picked this up for a while and when i first tried it out a ways back, i recall not liking it in the slightest. but now that i've tried it out again, i'm really, really glad i didn't do anything rash, like trade it away! a beautiful floral, and i do NOT care for many florals!
-
in the imp: a sickly sweet cherry, followed closely by something poisonous, like insect repellent. wet on skin:better now, it's very close to a cherry incense i remember from a hippy-laden childhood. dry down: the cherry disappears like magic and is replaced with a gentle fruit floral, like Strangler fig, but more juicy and berry-like. the final verdict: a perfectly lovely mix of fruit and floral, but not unique enough for me to keep. ADDED Jan. 19: in the imp: faint caramel and strawberry bubblegum. wet on skin: the bubblegum aspect disappears leaving behind something akin to strawberry syrup. fairly yum. dry down: the strawberry mixes with a very faint floral to produce something similar to strawberry suck-on candy. in all: not bad for those that are partial to candy-foodie type smells. for me, it's not quite what i want to smell like, so... ...off to the swaps!
-
in the imp: sweet, fruity in a juicy way. like watermelon or honeydew in the height of summer. yummm wet on skin: still juicy, but more fleshy fruit now, like peaches or strawberries. in other words, still yummmm. dry down: a beautiful floral is emerging- what is it? like honey suckle and something else succulent: maybe water lily or a touch of ylang ylang. later: a lovely combination of fruit and floral. not cloying. i'm not big on the floral, as people who read my reviews know, but this one is really really lovely. something to keep and cherish for long summer days and longer summer nights.

i'm much more picky about my florals than i am about resins. they don't always agree with me or my body chemistry, but i'm always willing to try anything from BPAL so here we go... in the imp: straight sharp-edged rose. this is not the sugary-creamy rose like Hope, this is stronger, more commanding. wet on skin: the rose mellows a bit. no trace of anything else. dry down: rose, rose and only rose. final analysis: there are those people that love all things rose, and for them, i'd say this is an excellent addition. for me, it's not quite spectacular enough to keep. off to the swaps!

there is love in my heart for Strangler Fig... in the imp: woodsy, earthy. like rich soil, but sweeter. wet on skin: the earthiness gets even richer, and is joined by a fruity element, but not foodie. dry down: lovely, soft, complex. like sandlewood and fresh tilled earth and sun-ripened figs in the early fall. in all: beautiful and evocative of playing in a sun-dappled garden.
-
this is the Resurrected version. in the bottle: LOADS of coconut. that's all i can smell, and I WANT MORE! wet on skin: coconut still strong but a sugary goodness is coming through. not like Sugar Skull, more like a sugar-creme. STILL want more. dry down: a beautiful vanilla emerges, very much like the aforementioned funnel cake, that's what it reminds me of. foodie, but not in a yucky way. final analysis: delicious and somehow exotic, this is one for regular use Or a night out on the town. LOVE!
-
in the bottle: all cocoa, all the time wet on skin: a chocolate-almondy thing, very reminicient of Tell Tale Heart. dry down: a fruity undercurrent makes it's appearance, and i agree that it's more cranberry than cherry. later: a gorgeous balance between fruit and cocoa without being foodie. a total keeper!

in the bottle: smells very much like a men's cologne, as has been said. a sharp edge of ozone. wet on skin: the ozone dominates to the point where i can't pick out any other notes. dry down: more of the same. i'm actually a bit shocked, because i'm used to dramatic changes happening from bottle to dry down, but this was not forthcoming. later: the final analysis is that on me it smells JUST like the seaweed-loofa soap i used to get from The Body Shop. it smell like water, but not melter snow to me, like sea water, all salty like. i don't *mind* it, but it's not something i'll personally wear all that often, if at all.
