    Green Tree Viper

In the decant, it's very fresh mint. Once on, the Snake Oil comes out, but it merges with the mint to make an herbal-mint-vanilla loveliness. I hope the mint stays after a while, because it adds a lighter dimension to the Snake Oil that I really love. This sort of mellows out the 'dirtiness' of the Snake Oil (which I like, but this is a wonderful alternative). I'm not sure how many Snake Oil blends I need, but this is at the top of the list, of those I don't have bottles of yet. The Snake Pit loves me!

    Saw-Scaled Viper

In the imp, this has a slightly off smell I can't pin down. Maybe it's the ginger? I get spice and patchouli (from the Snake Oil, I'm guessing), but nothing specific. Once I apply it and it dries down, it's cinnamon and cassia amplify time! I love cinnamon, and it loves me back. Thank goodness it doesn't make my skin welt, because there's alot of it in this blend. The red ginger is there too, but thankfully not too much. And I definitely do get Snake Oil as a nice base to the cinnamon. This is one of the spiceyest BPALs I've tried so far, and I really like it. I found somewhere that says cassia is less delicate than cinnamon, and is sometimes called the "bastard cinnamon". That certainly applies here, but not in a bad way. So, of the Snake Pits I've tried, I've liked all of them, including this one. This is going to be hell on my wallet. For cinnamon lovers, this is a great blend to try. The cinnamon acts like a well-received companion to the Snake Oil, and the cassia and ginger are bratty older sisters that pretend they don't love you, but really know you're meant to be part of the same family and would beat anyone up to defend you.

    White Rabbit

What a morpher! I bought an aged bottle of White Rabbit on a forum sale. I have no idea how old it is, but it is in a cobalt bottle, so at least a few years, I'd guess. In the bottle, and immediately upon application, I got a strong, clean citrus...lemon mostly. It's nice, but very much not what I expected or wanted from this blend. Thankfully, within about 10 minutes, the citrus fades and it's light tea with tons of pepper. Now, a bit later, the pepper is fading into the background and a glorious strong tea, with vanilla, milk, and honey comes to the forefront. I get a hint of sweet ginger, but it's very faint. WOW! And I was just about to post this review when I got a whiff of clean linen. Fantastic transitions! This blend really morphs, and very rapidly! I very much love it. It's light, sweet (but not particularly foody), and subtle. This is a good scent for wearing when I want to wear scent but not be overwhelmed or overwhelming to others. I think it would also be a good blend for calming or de-stressing. Lovely. I find that I really am enjoying some of the Mad Tea Party blends!

    Shub-Niggurath

I tested both the original Shub and the currently available one at a MnS yesterday. They are somewhat different (I found the ginger more prevalent in the original release, and more herb in the new one, for example), but the base is the same. And gorgeous. Both of them. I really like the fresh ginger-y notes here. On my skin, the ginger was sweet and sharp, but not foody. I'm glad for that, because I tend to like notes associated with foody scents, without all the foodyness. The resin darkens the scent a bit, but this is suprisingly light. I'm not sure what the herbs and spices are...I will need to test further and for longer (my nose was getting confused so I had to wash off some of the blends I was testing), but I liked this so much I am planning on buying a bottle at some point.

    Western Diamondback

simplyfunjhose let me test out her bottle of this today at the MnS. I have a bottle on order because I just knew it would work for me. And. It. Does. OMG does this work for me. I love leather and leather loves me back. I get lots of leather from this right off the bat, but it isn't as harsh as in some other blends. I think the snake oil sweetens the leather a bit. I get a lot of sage from this, and it combines with the sandalwood to form incensey, herby, vanilla leather sexy goodness. I think this will become one of my favorite blends. Definitely for when I want to wear snake oil, but with more complexity.

    Perversion

Rawwwrrrrr! I got to test this and even was gifted an imp at the MnS I hosted today, and wow.... I get all kinds of hot leather and tobacco. The tonka also curls out of a dust parchment note....weird, but amazing. This is a hot, dark, bad boy/girl, in a long leather coat, black leather pants, and with a thin cigarette hanging out of a sneering mouth. They stalk through the aisles of a chained library, purring like a big cat. You catch a glimpse of them from time to time, as you rush deeper into the library, knocking into the shelves as you pass, stirring up dust from the disintegrating tomes that mixes with the hot tobacco. The smoke curls through the building, preceding your predator. You keep glancing behind you, hoping deep in your heart that they will catch you. Um...yeah. Can you tell I find Perversion ridiculously sexy? I'll be getting a bottle of this soon, most definitely. We decided it smells like sexy libraries, or was that library sex? Either way...it's hot.

    Alice

Rawrrrr! This is wonderful and really surprising on my skin. I bought a bottle unsniffed in the hopes that I'd get all the notes except minimal to no rose. I can handle a small amount of rose, but not when it's the predominant note. In the bottle this is sort of like tea with honey in it. On my skin, it morphs into something very lightly spicy and floral. I'm guessing that's the carnation and bergamot. I still get honey, and perhaps a tiny bit of milk, but little to no rose. This really is a innocent and beautiful blend. I'm so happy I bought it. It actually lightens my mood just to wear it. I feel sort of sexy and innocent all at the same time with Alice! Score another hit for the lab!

    Mort de Cesar

Please tell me why I had to spill almost 1/2 the bottle of this the first time I tried it. Please tell me why I only bought 1 bottle when I knew it would work for me so well. This. Is. Gorgeous. In the bottle, it's all cloves and cinnamon. Once on (and I'm wearing alot of it, in an attempt to not waste some of the spillage), the cinnamon-vanilla really pops and I also still get cloves, blood accord and some muskyness that must be the amber musk. I think I get a hint of the wine grapes as well. After a while, the floral and dry woodyness start to make an appearance. This is a rich, heady blend of spice that is kept from being too much by the softness of the vanilla. I must track down at least one more bottle, because this bad boy is in my top 3. I know there's no use crying over spilled milk, but I will now go cry over spilled Cesar.

    TKO

First, TKO smells wonderful. All lavender and sugary vanilla. I applied a short time before bed, and the scent stayed with me until I showered this morning. It seemed to relax my mind and let me just rest. I don't know if it's the power of suggestion or this amazing blend, but I slept incredibly well last night...better than I've slept in weeks, if not months. Thank you lab!

    Fur Scents

Hunter Moon totally has a kitty fur and outdoorsy smell to me. In fact, I smelled one of my cats when wearing it, and couldn't tell if I was smelling the bpal or the kitty!
  11. I'm just starting to go through CD. From the Snake Pit, I have a 5ml of Australian Copperhead (yummy and fun!), and a 5ml of Western Diamondback on the way (I just know I'll love it)! For the others, I'm trying to track down decants. I am still having trouble with finding a few (Habu, Temple Viper, Green Tree Viper, and a few others) but I think I have about 1/2 the Snake Pit on the way via decants from forumites. Looking forward to narrowing the field down. I kind of hope that I don't love them all, because then it would be awefully hard to avoid just buying the whole Snake Pit, but if I do, I do, and I'd just avoid other 5mls for a month or so.

    The King of Hearts

In the imp, King of Hearts is a very red, very sweet rose. On- Still sweet, but floral-sweet, not sugar sweet. After a while, the rose fades a bit, and I think I'm getting black cherry and lavender. And what's this? A red musk that doesn't hate me and cause nausea? Amazing! Very light scent. It is quite nice, but doesn't have alot of staying power.

    Gennivre, L’Artiste du Diable

In the decant, I did not like this at all. I can't articulate why, I just didn't like the scent. Once applied, I got mildly fruity, flowery notes. Nothing specific for about an hour or so, then I get honey, orange blossom, and maybe sugar cane. This is actually turning out to be a very nice scent. I think I'll hold off on a bottle until the weather is warmer. This seems to be a summery scent, so I'll see if it still smells light and nice. Weird, it's like a very light version of Teenage Cannibal on me. Less fruity and sweet, but similar.

    The Organ Grinder (2006)

I can't really smell much of anything in the imp. Maybe a touch of the white pine bark, but that's it. I applied it and immediately got a STRONG whiff of smoke. On me, though, it's not as much tobacco smoke as it is a wood-fire smoke. There is also something sweet in there, but I can't place it. My guess would be sarsaparilla, since I cannot think of what that smells like alone. An hour after application, the smoke has faded alot, and I get very soft almond milk. On my drive to work, I kept smelling something milky, and thought it was my coffee, because I hadn't remembered the notes in this blend. But when I got here and checked the notes, I realized what I was smelling was me! There is an undercurrent of the pine bark, which combines with the other notes to give this blend a very dry feel to it. Pine bark is apparantly much different than pine on me, because it doesn't go citrusy, which is a good thing for this particular blend. I loved the smoky stage, wasn't sure about the interim stuff that was just sort of vague, but am liking the current phase this blend is going through. My only reservations about its bottle-worthiness is that it seems to fade fairly quickly, so I might have to slather alot and then reapply it. I will have to try using more of this later in the day and see if I still like it this much.

    Theodosius, The Legerdemain

Interesting. Theodosius is a steampunk Dorian. It's Dorian and Mechanical Phoenix blended to me. I get the tea, the fougere, and the white musk. There is a tiny hint of vanilla, but it's way in the background. Over all that is a sort of citrus-metallic scent that really reminds me of Mechanical Phoenix. I like this. I also think it would be fantastic on a guy. Definitely going on my 'possible bottle' list. I'm not going to buy alot of CD bottles until I've tried most of the blends I want from that category, but this will surely be under deliberation.

    Miskatonic University

In the imp: Coffee w/ LOTs of Irish Cream. Very sweet. On skin: coffee is fading and is more of a background note now, with the Irish Cream and a strong caramelly note. After maybe an hour, the irish cream/caramel/coffee sweetness all mellow down and OMG! I have no idea how the lab was able to do it, but there is a definite dusty old book smell now. It's truly amazing! After wearing this today, I am very impressed with the morphing that goes on in this scent. I am also quite astounded at the ability to actually make a dusty note that really smells like dusty books. That said, I won't be needing a bottle of this. The sweetness phase is just TOO sweet for me to want to want to get a whole bottle.

    Clio

Woods, yep. Patchouli, very light, benzoin...might be making an appearance here. Hmmmm. This is a strange one. I really like most of the notes listed for Clio. On, she is quite herb-y, like sage and rosemary, specifically. That mixes with the woods and incense, which should make for one of my dream-scents. It's nice, but on me, I don't feel like it's anything special. In fact, it smells like a milder version of Dee on my wrist. Since Dee is a scent I love, and is GC, I think I am safe in sticking with him rather than trying to hunt down a bottle of Clio. Had I discovered Clio before Dee? Hard to say. Maybe I'd have fallen in love with her instead.

    Peitho

Achoo! This really made me sneeze. I was hoping for musk, clove, vanilla, and sandalwood with a hint of florals. Instead? All floral, all the time....well, until I wore it for several hours and got a tiny bit of vanilla. Way too much flowers for my tastes unfortunately. Glad I only have an imp. This is not bottle-worthy for me. I should have known, since the first few ingredients listed are florals. Usually I amp clove and vanilla, but not this time for some reason.

    Monster Bait: Bloody Mary

Last summer, I made candied cherry and toasted almond ice cream. The cherries were dripping with the syrup I made for them before I folded them into the ice cream, which had a vanilla flavor with toasted almond mixed into all the creamyness. That is pretty much what this smells like to me. I definitely also get some powdered sugar, though thankfully no medicinal scent that others have mentioned. I'm wearing it in a scent locket as well, and actually get a black licorice scent from that. Weird what our skin chemistry will do to a scent. To me, this is like Teenage Cannibal's experienced, goth older sister. Both are incredibly sweet, but Bloody Mary definitely WANTS to be sinister, whereas Teenage Cannibal can't help the way she is. Glad a lovely forumite sent me this as part of a swap!

    Purple Phoenix

As others have noted, this smells purple. At first, all I get is luscious plum and wine. After a few minutes dry, the flowers start to emerge. This is interesting. It's complex and full, but not heavy. It's actually light, but still sexy and not too sweet or frivolous. I didn't originally order this because I was worried about all the florals, but as I'm discovering, florals can be gorgeous in the right blend. I am glad that I traded for this, because it is definitely 'me'.

    Carnaval Diabolique recommendations

Thanks for the suggestions. I found someone who has a bunch of the snake pit as decants for sale, so hopefully she will respond to my PM to buy some of them. I've gone through and made a list of the others I definitely want to try also, based on the suggestions: Kataniya Wild Men Doc Constantine Organ Grinder Theodosius Faiza Gennivre Pulcinella Zarita (maybe) Priala (maybe) Midnight on the Midway MME.Moriarty (I figure it wouldn't hurt to try a decant, even though this contains the dreaded red musk)

    Carnaval Diabolique recommendations

Heya- I was just browsing the bpal main site in the CD category, and realize that I've tried Australian Copperhead, but nothing else from CD. So here is my list of my top likes. I'd love suggestions on which CD scents you might think I'd enjoy. They don't have to be alot like those on my list, but this is just an idea of some of the things I love. I also don't think that red musk likes me much, so I'll likely avoid scents with that as a note. Dee Dorian Chimera Antique Lace Jack Midway Sapphics Samhain Hunter Moon Snake Oil Mechanical Phoenix Thanks!

Bridal BPAL - BPAL for weddings?

I'm going to throw in a suggestion for Sapphics. I happen to be wearing it right now, and am getting a spicy floral, with woodsy notes. To me, it smells sexy but elegant sexy, not bold and brazen.

    Harvest Moon 2006

I think I have Harvest Moon 06. Can't recall as I got it in a swap. I'm very glad I did. In the bottle and wet on skin this is all juicy red fruits. I mostly get pomegranates and apples. Apple must love my skin b/c I always seem to amp it and it always smells nice. On drydown, this gets a smoky layer to it that must be the hickory. I also get the subtle dusty floral that rice flower gets on me. This is quite nice. I wish it stuck around a bit longer, but overall very good. If you like Samhain and BPAL's other autumn scents, try this one!

    Hunter Moon 2007

Cold Musk, a little powder, dry leaves and the very start of a fire in the forest. (no red wine for me, but I'm perfectly fine with that) This does remind me of clean kitty fur. True story: I just came in from the cold outside. It snowed a tiny bit this morning, and is very pretty out my back door, looking into the wooded area behind my house. My husband is starting a fire in the wood burning stove, I have water on for tea, and I have a cat sitting next to me on the couch purring. Occasionally, she will climb into my lap to bump my head and I'll bury my face in her fur. Hunter Moon is all of these things... cold, feral, and at the same time comforting like a warm kitteh and being inside on a cold day by the fire. It really evokes some very specific images and emotions. This would be a perfect scent to wear hiking in the cold woods, or inside on a day like today. Very nice.
