    Night-Gaunt

In the imp: soft grapefruit. Wet: It starts out pretty sharp, distinctly citrus. It's not hurt your nose sharp, but it's not exactly pleasant to me either. Drydown: This softens out into something a little more floral, almost has a crisp aquatic feel to it. The grapefruit fades away almost altogether, which is good because that's certainly not my favorite note. It's like a clean powdery floral to me. Overall: Not really for me. It's not bad, but it's not something I feel the need to wear again. I prefer spicier, sexier scents, and this is more of a clean, fresh floral.

    Chimera

Oh, Chimera, where have you been all my life? In the imp: Sweet cinnamon and Myrrh. Wet: Oh so cozy, cinnamon wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket. I don't think I have ever encountered a more comforting scent. This is going to be my new sad mood/insomnia/insecurity scent. This is like when I was little and having nightmares and my babysitter used to come in and just stroke my head as I fell asleep. This is that in a bottle. Sweet comfort in liquid scent form. Drydown: The same as above, this doesn't morph at all on me. I want to slather it all over. It's my Bpal teddy bear. Overall: Thank you labbies for blessing me with this frimp. A bottle will need to be coming my way soon.

    Tezcatlipoca

In the imp: Very strong cocoa with an herbal background Wet: The cocoa blends in and the patchouli and leather come forward. No one note sticks out. It's an overall smooth, masculine blend. Drydown: It's very subtle. Pretty much just a faded down version of the wet stage. The leather never comes out strong, which is good because that is not a favorable note to me. Overall: It's a decent blend. Not going to be a favorite, but it smells nice enough. Very subtle, and perhaps too masculine for my tastes, but not bad at all. I'd wear it again, but won't need more than an imp.

    Lurid

Not what I was expecting! In the imp, I smell mostly white musk and lavender. It has that pale, plain smell that I associate with both of those notes. Wet: Out comes the black currant to give it a lil bit of a rich, vibrant, fruity twist. That's kind of what I was hoping for, but didn't expect to notice. It's also a bit sharp at the beginning, but that fades pretty quick. It's got a nice, lavish feel. Drydown: Sweet, a bit powdery, but in a good way, kinda like the way amber dries down, although I don't detect amber here. The feel is just similar. I don't smell the lavender strongly as an individual note, but you can tell it's there, and that's ok. It mixes very nicely with the rest of it. This may be a little too "innocent" for everyday. Funny, cause with a name like Lurid you wouldn't expect an innocent smell right? It is very pretty though. Overall: A pretty, lush blend that I can see wearing again in the future. Very clean and crisp. Would be good for bedtime as it's not very strong or heavy.

    Carnaval Diabolique

So I was really nervous about this one. When I read the description from the lab I thought, "This could be really nice", and ordered a bottle. Then I read all the reviews. All I saw was lemon, lemon, lemon, which is a problem because I don't particularly like lemon. Then I got the bottle and tried it, and am so happy I trusted my intutition. In the bottle: It's a little tart, but not strong "lemon juice" lemon. It's like a light, soft, creamy hint of ghost citrus. Wet: Whoa, so not what I was expecting! It's a dark, smoky, sweet floral with a hint of lemon cookie. It's a creamy type floral, not in your face lemon as I expected. I think any time a scent has a note which i'm wary about, and there's black musk, I'm in the clear. The musk always gives it a sexy, dark quality. It adds a hint of mystery. The feeling I get from this is one of bright lights against a dark, shadowy atmosphere. Seductive and exciting, but not overpowering. Drydown: Here's where the vanilla and coconut decide to come out and play. It's very subtle, the dance they do with the other notes, but it smooths everything out into one creamy fluency. This has excellent throw, and lasts too. I wore it to bed and still had it on after 8 hours of sleep. Overall: I am so glad I trusted myself on this one, it would have been such a shame if I overlooked it. Incredible. this is the first of the carnaval scents i'm trying, and I can't wait for the others!

    Belle Vinu

In the bottle: Fruity woods Wet: I get a lot of peach with this one. Peach with an edge. This is a very girly, sparkly scent. Very vibrant and alive. Drydown: Still peach, but I start to smell the vanilla saying hello, but hiding shyly in the background. I love it! Sweet, fruity but could still kick your butt. This keeps getting better as time passes. Overall: Love it. I am so happy this worked for me because I had been looking forward to it so. Great for everyday. Refreshing and beautiful.

    The Gaoler's Daughter

In the bottle: Sweet honey with a bit of a fruity twist. Wet: Pretty much the same, but the honey and the peach stand out the most for me. Drydown: Sweet golden amber/honey goodness! Overall: LOVE!!! I must really know what works for me now, because every Yule I bought this year worked amazingly on me! Honey and Amber are two favorites of mine, and this is a perfect representation of what Bpal can do with them. I can see myself needing a 2cnd bottle, and this becoming a great everyday scent. This is the honey scent I have been waiting for.

    The Magi

This is the bestest Yule ever! Another instant favorite! In the bottle: Intense incense ( ). It reminds me very much of church incense. Nice to sniff, kinda nostalgic, but i'm eager to see how this translates on skin. Wet: Very close to the bottle scent, but there is something sweeter underlying. Also kind of animalic in a very sophisticated way. This is classy and gorgeous and glowy. I get the slightest bit of metallic from it, but it's nice. Drydown: Oh I'm in heaven. Ambery, incensey heaven. This feels very "golden". It also distinctly reminds me of something from my childhood. Perhaps a fragrance my mother wore when I was very, very young. It's much sweeter in the drydown, but not foodie or sugary sweet. More like a soft golden amber-vanilla sweet. Oh I love it. It's got this feeling like a golden halo of light is eminating from any place i've dabbed it. Overall: Bpal has created some recent blends that I am considering "instant favorites". (Lilith Victoria & Butter Rum Cookie are others) The Magi is right up there with them. I don't know if this is for everyone, but I am in love.

    Gelt

This is full of . As soon as I got the package with this in it, I just kept sniffing this one in the bottle over and over and over. I was kind of obsessed. In the bottle it smells like pure 100% cocoa. Wow, it's making me drool. Wet, I get the same cocoa, but there's a dusty, kind of woodsy feel to it. Resiny, but not quite the amber i'm used to. It definitely has a warm, golden feel to it. On the drydown, it just keeps getting smoother and sweeter. I'm definitely a fan. Overall: A really great cocoa treat!

    Butter Rum Cookie

I can't even begin to desribe how much I love this scent. My heart wants to leap out of my chest and scream and explode into joyful confetti. That's the kind of effect butter Rum Cookie is having on me. In the bottle, it smells like a combo of Gingerbread Poppet ( ) and Sugar Skull ( ). This makes my pulse start to quicken. Wet, the spicyness and booziness flow forth, and I am absolutely in love. When I read the description, I was concerned about the orange, but i don't detect it here. This is like Gingerbread Poppet grows up and turns into a femme fatale. It's like a more dangerous, seductive GP. On the drydown, it turns into a wonderfully cozy scent, but like cozy/sexy like you're all huddled up with your sexy lover under a flannel blanket kissing passionately and drinking hot toddies. It's sweet in a come hither kinda way, and foodie without being headachey. It feels "brown" and warm and *ahem* arousing. It reminds me of my boyfriend, not because he would smell good wearing it, but because of the sexy comfort thing. Oh, and the rum. My sweetie does like his rum. I think this was meant for me, and i'm so glad I bought it. I'm blown away! This is one of those mind-blowing scents that I will reach for all the time. LOVE!!!

    Baghdad

In the imp, I smell a very spicy rose. When I first dab it on the rose jumps forward and the spice falls back, but it evens out quickly into the spicy rose from the imp. There is a subtle bit of creaminess in the background too, I'm assuming from the amber since most amber notes end up sexily creamy on me. It reminds me of a creamier Harlot. It's absolutely beautiful. Warm and exotic. There is a very brief period when it starts to go a little soapy, but it doesn't last long, and I think it's just the rose and amber kinda swapping places because the amber comes through much stronger on the drydown. I don't get any citrus from it at all and that's just fine with me. This is an excellent one for an amber or rose lover. Or if you're a lover of spicy florals. I want to slather more on. It's cozy and sexy at the same time, and those end up being my favorites. Thank you so much to the labbies for this frimp! 5 out of 5. Truly beautiful.

    Zorya

At first this completely explodes jasmine on me. Waaaaaaaay too much jasmine. I should know better. Next the flowers come out, but it's still way too strong, mostly because i'm still amping the jasmine pretty heavily. My boyfriend takes a sniff and just says,"WOW." His nose is twisted up when he says this. I think he's trying to be diplomatic until I tell him how I feel. We both decide that it's just too much old-fashioned floral sting. Really floral scents don't tend to agree with me. I can do softer ones sometimes, but this is harsh. After a couple of hours, it settles into a pretty, smooth white musk. It just took too long to get there. 3.5 out of 5. I'm being generous, and that's because the ending musk phase is very pretty. If there wasn't that, I probably would have given it a 1.

    Gaueko

Lavender and I do not get along so well. She smells ok enough I guess, but whenever I wear a blend in which I predominantly smell lavender, I do not feel like myself. Gaueko is one of those blends. I purposely only tried a small dab on my wrist because i just had a feeling about this one. It starts out gaggingly sharp. I wanted to wash it off, and after seeing the look on my face, my boyfriend urged me to. I waited it out though, and it did calm down, but it's still just lavender blah. My boyfriend smells the incense coming through, and I suppose i do a little bit in the background, but it's not enough to make me like it. Overall I don't have the urge to try this one again. The kind of girl who wears this is just not the kind of girl I am. I need something a little bolder, and this is just kind of simple, plain. It's fine enough once it dries down, and if you like lavender, then you'll probably like this. I was hoping for more incense, but I had a feeling the lavender would overshadow. 2.5 out of 5. Decent scent, but not for me.

BPAL Patchouli - there's nothing else like it

I have to second Voodoo. I love it and was actually told in a very complimentary way that I smelled like a headshop wearing it.

    Discussion of all things Amber

I ordered my Jacob's Ladder today! Along with some Snake Charmer. My two current fave amber blends are Anactoria and Brisingamen. One's drop dead dangerously sexy, the other is soft and sweet. An amber for every mood and occasion, that's what I'm after!

    Black Lily

This is another new favorite of mine. Lilies are probably my favorite of all the flowers, and this has such great depth. It's kind of spicy, woodsy, but still so essentially Lily. I could not stop sniffing my wrist from the moment I put it on. It just put me in a great mood all day. It kind of represents a light and dark side together, an innocent lily with a dark side. This warrants a big bottle. 5 out of 5. I'm in love with this Lily.

    Discussion of all things Amber

Okay I'm an amber obsessive, and somehow I didn't put Jacob's Ladder in my last order. I think I just got too excited over Gelt ( chocolate is a love too). I'm dying for the next update so I can add a bottle to my next order. I keep thinking about it, and then I see your posts about it! Don't let me forget next time!

    Frumious Bandersnatch

When I first sniffed it in the imp, I got rotting flowers. When I put it on wet, it stayed the same... for about a minute. I almost washed it off, but am so glad I didn't because it turned into the most lovely scent, kind of like a craft store in winter. It could also be one of those "Christmas stores" that pop up around now and have all the spicy smelling decorations and potpouris. It's deep and red and juicy. I love it. It gives me all these nostalgic feelings of being young during the holiday season. Yet it's still sexy. This was another frimp that I am so grateful for, as I probably would never have tried it on my own. I would recommend this for lovers of fruit and spice. 5 out of 5. Cozy Nostalgic Love.

    Katharina

I got this as a frimp and it was one of those scents that I was so very thankful made it's way to me. I love Bpal's apricot so much, and I always forget that until I put a blend with it on. This is very sexy in an innocent way. So pretty, yet subtle. Mostly I get a sexy, creamy apricot all the way through. It gets deeper and richer as time goes on, and the musk comes out more. Excellent throw, lasted my entire work day without fading. Sometimes fate introduces me to a blend that I absolutely love and NEED a bottle of. This is one of those. It's going to become a dear favorite to me. 5 out of 5. Heavenly!

    Thanatopsis

While I can appreciate this scent for what it is, it's really not a "me" scent. I'm definitely not a fan of pine, which is the first thing that jumps out at me both in the imp and on my skin. It settles in a little bit eventually, but for the most part I just get a deep, dark pinewood scent. There is something faintly sweet in the back that kind of brings back some memories of junior high for me. However, I can't smell it when I sniff my skin directly, it's just in the background. It's not pine-sol, it's like sitting under a christmas tree. It's very nice to smell, but not on me. I would absolutley recommend this to pine lovers, or those who enjoy woodsy scents. If it was a color, I think it would be dark murky brown or gray. Maybe even black. It feels wintery too. It would be something I would love to smell on my boyfriend, as it's quite masculine. I prefer sweeter scents, so maybe I can pass it on to him... 2 out of 5 for me, but once again- I definitely reccomend it to lovers of pine and resiny scents.

    Baobhan Sith

I'm not normally a big fan of citrusy scents, but this one manages to be soft enough to enjoy. In the imp, it was very sharp lemony grapefruit, and when I first put it on my skin it retained that sharpness for about two minutes before it settled down into a smoother feel. Less kitchen cleaner, more fresh lemon italian ice. It's a great energizing scent. Not my typical style but I definitely will use this one more often. I'd even consider a bottle. 4 out of 5.

    Snow, Glass, Apples

This is divine... First off, the label art is so creepy gorgeous that I just stared at it for a good long while before I even opened the bottle. I haven't had a scent create such anticipation in me since my very first order. First sniff from the bottle: Crisp, cold, freshly cut apples with some freshly cut blooms as well. On Skin: This is a very "white" scent. Pure, clean, fresh and feminine. I can't help but feel like every time I pull my nose away from my wrist there is a cold sensation left behind. Maybe it's a psychological reaction, but that's the way I feel. Like winterfresh gum but without the mint. Drydown: There may be a bit of white musk to this, the apple is not as strong and it's more of a light floral. This is a great summer scent, as it's light enough not to be overpowering in the humidity, and it's got a great cooling feel to it. I can't wait to put it on again after I shower because the fresh, clean bit is still strong. It reminds me a bit of the Masque. This wasn't what I was expecting, and that's actually a good thing. I thought it would be heavier, darker and I was pleasantly surprised. I love the cold feel of it. LOVE!!!!

    The Clod and the Pebble

In the bottle: Spicy woods with a faint breath of flowers Wet on skin: Holy Cedar! I'm amping cedar like I've never amped anything in my life. Luckily, I like cedar. But so far, I don't smell much else. Dry: The cedar is still really strong, but the other notes have come forward and are making this really nice earthy scent. I agree with tarotgirl, this does smell very much like it's name. Mostly woods and patchouli, the rose is hiding out in the background, and I don't really smell nutmeg or clove. Maybe a hint of clove. Overall: I like it. It doesn't smell like anything I have in rotation at the moment. It's very earthy, kinda hippyish, it brings out my bohemain side. I also had incredible *ahem* relations with my boy while wearing it, so that's a plus. It's sexy in an unconventional way. This could smell great on a man too. 4 out of 5
  24. blacklacestatic

I"m looking for a scent like a ripe cornfield.

If you can get it, The Masque smells like that both in the bottle and in it's initial phase. It morphs a lot after that though. If you can deal with the temporary state, pick up a bottle. Dark Delicacies may still have it.
  25. blacklacestatic

    The Masque

In the Imp: Smells like a Greenhouse, wet with sweetness. I smell the Honey note in there too. It reminds me of summer greenery Wet:The Carnation and rose notes make themselves known, as well as a spicy kick I can't identify. It's very pretty. The Greenhouse smell has turned into more of a florist's shop smell. Dry: Now it's morphed into clove with an incense backing. This is one heck of a complex scent, changing constantly, but with each phase smelling great. Overall: I am a very satisfied customer. This is not just a perfume, it's an experience. I want to wear this again and see if I get the same phases. Very unique. Overall 4 out of 5
