    Springtime scents

Alice, Empyreal Mist, Dana O'Shee, and especially Queen of Hearts..at least those are the spring-iest blends I have.
  2. Oooh, another- Scherezade = super, super incense on me.

    Midwinter's Eve

Well hm, I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet. In the bottle: Sweet sweet sweet but smooth berries. Smells a lot like Bordello except the plums aren't as sugary and it doesn't smell red or lusty. There's something else lurking below, but I can't tell what it is- however, it makes the "melancholy" part of the description more accurate. As it dries the plum stays but the florals peek out from underneath. They make this smell a bit more grown-up. And I swear that something else is still there.. This has no lasting power on me so I couldn't observe for much longer. It disappeared entirely in a couple hours. Overall, this lacks as much depth as Bordello has. It smells rather "blue" to me as well. I like this, but I'm not violently in love with it.

    Empyreal Mist

WOW. Who would have known I'd love this so much? I don't usually go for light or floral scents. It starts out a green, white floral..extremely hazy, light, wispy..basically everything the description says. Gorgeous. Despite the floral green-ness, it is in no way sharp- it's EXTREMELY soft. As it wears on my skin, a very faint fruitiness comes out but this in no way smells fruity. It's still very clean. You know what..? It's not even worth describing the notes. This is one of those singular experiences where a blend perfectly captures a certain mood and the notes don't matter, regardless of whether or not you like them. Yay for Empyreal Mist!

    Shroud

I put off trying this one on because it initially smelled very sharp and green. Luckily, it doesn't stay that way.. This starts out smelling like slightly wooded herbs on my skin. However, it dries to something dusty and later still the white florals come out. It smells light even when it smells dusty and not musky at all. I've discovered a love for sandalwood so I keep smelling my wrist even though I hate herbal and floral blends. I don't like the way this smells, but at the same time I do. I don't like the mental images it's giving me, either, but still I enjoy it just because they're so strange! I also must note this is deceptively morbid, even though it's light. What a contradiction! I'm having such a hard time describing this one. It's unique, that's for sure!

    London

This smells like rose and nothing else. Light and girly rose, but definitely not fresh (it's a city rose rather than something crisp and fresh you'd find in the wild- y'know?). It does smell a bit old fashioned, but not in the sense that you'd feel like you're wearing a dated scent. People who like rose will appreciate this, but seeing as it really lacks any other elements on me, I can't recommend it to anyone else.

    New Orleans

I have a hard time picking out individual flowers, though I'm getting better..so I'm probably not the best to review this. But whatever It smells humid and heavy, but not tropical, and ever-so-slightly spicy. I can almost see NOLA in my head just smelling it. The floral smell gets lighter and a bit sweeter as time goes on. Another nice floral from BPAL. While this isn't my favorite category of scents, they're all very pretty and well done. This is a special one because of the strong associated image, though.

    The Caterpillar

Smells kinda incense-y, kinda floral in the imp. Two of my most hated perfume components, but I decided to be a trooper and put it on. ... I smell like a soapy hippie that's been rolling around in the mud (yes, something can smell both soapy and dirty). Strong incense, patchouli, and moss (which i've discovered smells HORRIBLE on me most of the time) and unidentified soapy notes. I may cave in and wash this one off. ... A few hours later, I got the same unmistakable "old person" smell that other people are getting, except more of a vile old person. There was nothing bad about this in the imp, my skin just did horrible things to it

    The Queen of Hearts

First impression: A floral I like?! WHAT?! This is gorgeous, though! I'm shocked. I smell a lot of light flowers and the drop of cherry is definitely there. I think it's the cherry that really makes this one for me. It's a perfect light, spring-time womanly but not wimpy scent. However, as it dries down, it just smells like a typical 'clean floral' perfume. I want the cherry back, if it had stayed like that I would have ordered a bottle I'm keeping the imp in case I manage to snag some single-note cherry, though.

    Cheshire Cat

This starts out very grapefruit-y. Tart, not sweet, but still slightly juicy..I think I smell a bit of the currant. On drydown and thereafter, the lavendar and chamomile came out more and more. Now I only smell a hint of the grapefruit and the rest is slightly herbal, slightly floral..very strange. Not much lasting power on this one, though it packs a punch when you first put it on. I'm keeping it just because of the AIW assocation, but it's not my cup of tea so to speak

    Alice

Bah! Damn you, skin, and your love for roses! While this is nice, I do wish the non-rose notes came out more. I smell primarily roses on myself with a little bit of milk and carnation beneath. When I first put it on I smell a small dab of honey, but it quickly fades. What I'm left with is a lightly, lightly spiced girly floral with a very slight creaminess. Not a typical floral at all, which is nice. It is rather innocent- too innocent for my usual preferences, so this isn't going to be my signature. This is the kind of fragrance you wear in the summer when you have a sundress on. I think I may order a bottle of this, because it's my new favorite BPAL rose (replacing Persephone) and I'm obsessed with Alice in Wonderland.
  12. luxuria

    Bon Vivant

Starts out as bright, fresh strawberries..not as juicy as I would have imagined, but pleasant nonetheless. This is very uncomplicated overall. Bubbly strawberries! The champagne blends so well with the fruit. It's a very happy scent as well. I'm not in the mood for that now, so I'm definitely going to tuck this away in a safe place for when it can be truly appreciated. I'm glad I don't get strawberry lipgloss, because the smell of that makes me nauseous ADDED Aug. 4: I was expecting something nauseating and stickily sweet, but not so- this is beautiful on my skin. The strawberries smell FRESH and the champagne notes just make it sparkle. It's sweet, but the least sweet fruit scent I've ever worn. This is wonderful!

    Phantom Queen

This isn't "my type" of scent at all but it's so gorgeous nonetheless. I get VERY strong mental images of a meadow here. It smells very purple and hazy and feminine, but not the girly-girl kind of feminine. The flowers are soft yet deep and not at all what you'd typically think of as a floral (or at least what I do). I can't even pick out the individual notes! I'm not terribly familiar with the Morrigan but this scent does seem to perfectly fit the land in which she originated. Not bottle-worthy as I wont wear it regularly, but I will cling to the imp and order another if I see fit.

    Rage

My overall impression is deep smelling fruity soap stuck in a garden. The florals are very strong on me, which really detracts from the angriness of any scent The "deep fruit" part is intriuging and pretty, but not strong enough to save this. The drydown is rather amber-y but overall not too different. Still very flowery. This isn't a keeper, I've passed it into someone who will hopefully appreciate it more than I do.
  15. luxuria

    Persephone

Starts out, like others have said, much like nail polish remover..however, it fades to a predominantly rose scent. Roses that sparkle a teeny bit, but roses nonetheless. I love pomegranate, and I think a more strongly pomegranate smell would have been more suitable for Persephone. I guess it's just my body chemistry acting up This is my favorite of BPAL's roses so far but i'm not a big rose fan so I'm not too thrilled about this one.

    Salomé

Erm..I think I got an imp of Salome from a bad batch. I don't smell almond- not a single bit- and I love almond and can pick it out of anything. What I DO get is oakmoss and musk, with a very faint touch of jasmine. No sandwalwood, either. I recognize oakmoss as the thing that went positively acrid on me in Zombi, and seeing as this is oakmoss-heavy..this was really gross on me. This is fairly masculine as well. I thought it smelled unpleasant enough in the imp, but when I went to re-smell it after wearing it on my skin, it seemed delightful. I'm giving this one away to my friend

    Black Phoenix

I could have sworn I reviewed this..guess not! This starts out like extreme almond extract, with a slight hint of something darker and what smells like hairspray in the background. As it dries, the 'something darker' comes out more as well as some cherry, leaving this smelling like smoky almonds and cherry. Luckily, the hairspray smell disappeared completely. Later on, I swear a floral peeks out..smells a lot like rose, but it could be something else. I really like this! It's very unique and sweet, but not foody due to the floral and underlying musk. This is on my 5ml wish list! This is also, however, a "going out" scent to me..and I don't have very many of those, so that's saying a lot.

    Siren

Initially: Siren is ginger, ginger, ginger! I like ginger, so this is okay. I primarily smell the jasmine underneath and it doesn't meld that well with the ginger, so this is a very peculiar smelling blend. The apricot comes out shortly, but never manages to come out ahead of the ginger. I never smell the barest hint of vanilla. This smell reminds me of an organic grocery store around here. WHY, I have no idea, but that's the impression the drydown gives me (and it's a very clear impression!). Maybe because of the fruit and spice combination? Who knows! I don't dislike this but I don't particularly like it, either. I'm not sure what I want to do with it. [edit] I forgot to mention the crrrrazy lasting power. This would NOT COME OFF! Even after many, many hours, it still would not wash off!

    Dragon's Heart

This is super, super Dragon's Blood-y on me. It smells very rich, and slightly dark (I detect some woody musky smells, and the natural fruityness of the Dragon's Blood is enhanced as well.) I can definitely see where people get "strength" from this blend as it does live up to its description. However..it morphs into a public restroom smell, much like Dragon's Milk did. The Dragon's Blood was fine on my skin at first, I wonder what happened maybe there's another culprit.

    Scherezade

I thought I'd experienced incense-y BPAL before..nope! Not until now. It starts and very strong incense. I get a breath of some unknown spices every once in a while, and sometimes I can vaguely pick out the red musk, but it's overwhelmingly incense. The reaction from other people..."Who is burning incense?" "Hmm, something smells like incense." It must be my body chemistry or something, I can't imagine this being a "man-magnet" unless said man finds incense really erotic.
  21. luxuria

    Jailbait

This starts out super, super bubblegum-y. It's the definition of PINK in a smell. There's no other way to describe it! However, it fades into something with a bit of a naughty undertone..not sure what. Whoever said this almost smells porn-like hit the nail on the head. That's *the* perfect association I get with this- a porn star. While not the sort of thing I'd like to wear during the day, it could be fun to whip out for certain occasions
  22. O smelled EXTREMELY incense-y on me.
  23. Posting in here to ask yet another question. oh, what I wouldn't do without you ladies' help.. What scents are similar to Tamora and Glitter? Tamora smells exactly like Glitter and O's lovechild on me, and the Glitter component makes me absolutely SICK. I tried to bite my tongue in the reviews, but honestly, something in them is very, very sickly and a whiff haunts me for a long time thereafter. The only common note I can find is heliotrope, but that's in one of my favorite blends (Hollywood Babylon) as well as one I didn't love, but wasn't sickened by (Eclipse.) So..are there any other oils you'd be able to put in the Tamora and Glitter family? Is there an unlisted culprit, perhaps? Let me know so I can stay away! Especially since I'd probably end up ordering them because I love sweet smells and Tamora and Glitter are definitely sweet, but NOT in a way I enjoy.
  24. luxuria

    Tamora

In the imp it smelled peachy and bright. Nice enough to pass the initial smell test, so I put some on and let it dry.. AAH! Same crazy, gets-stuck-in-the-back-of-your-throat sweetness that I get from Glitter. In fact, this smells just like Glitter with amber (i'm not a fan of amber, but it's subtle enough here to just ground the blend a little more.) This is pretty, but not really my style (or variety of sweetness.)
  25. luxuria

    Regan

This starts out quite pleasant, light, and sweet. A nice 'girly' scent, and rather creamy. However, as it dries on my skin, it smells..for lack of a better term..stale. It's the floral part that smells wonky, so I'll assume it's just that my skin doesn't like orchids. Other than that, this is *very* satisfactory and pretty- I might have to buy a scent locket to just to wear this in it..
