BPAL for Costume Parties, Halloween Costumes
samarablackcat replied to chin's topic in Recommendations
Yes, yes, I second Graveyard Dirt! I think it's one of the best dirt smells evah. However, here are a couple other suggestions ( and one is hard to find!) Ace of Pentacles (smells like earth just dampened by the first drops of rain) Nocnitsa (Also known as Krisky, Plaksy and Gorska Makua, she is a nightmare spirit, the Night Hag of the Woods, who haunts Polish, Russian, Bulgarian and Slovak children during the darkest hours. The only protection against her torments is a circle drawn around a child’s cradle with a knife, or an axe or protective poppet hidden under the floorboards beneath where a child sleeps. Her scent is that of a lightless fir wood, nighttime air, wet forest mosses and upturned earth) HTH! eta: I haz teh dumb I can haz spell cheque? -
Oh, how could I forget Chrysanthemum Moon? I do apologize! Get at least an imp... *runs off to see how Crawdad Dream and Lunar Eclipse are aging*

Mme. Moriarty and Marianne from the Carnaval, yep, second, third and fourth that! If you can find Smut on the sales or swaps, red musk love Three swarthy, smutty musks sweetened with sugar and woozy with dark booze notes. It's a Lupercalia (Valentine's ) , so if you can't find it, not to worry! Hopefully it will be back in January! Krampus, too, from the Yules. Good luck and enjoy your finds!

LXXVIII (78) In the bottle: Fresh and bright with a feel of citrus. Lime maybe? pink grapefruit? Wet: Pink grapefruit and lime, with maybe a splash of vodka. Like a Tiki that didn't quite make it. Or maybe mango or something tropical? Something just a tad spicy underneath...a little ginger? As it dries, it fades quickly on me, but on my coworker, it stays longer. She says something waxy in the mix, underneath. I am not very good at picking out notes, and it seems this was made just for me, as I feel I can indentify each one! A great summer scent, so refreshing...would make a great cocktail, too!

What BPAL would this fictional character wear?
samarablackcat replied to Flowermouth's topic in Recommendations
He would, to me, smell like Lucifer. Dark and darker. -
I did not purchase this when it was available. The notes did not sound as if they were for me, particularly the wine. That said.. I got a sniffie in a swap or purchase (don't remember which) and fell in love. So I tracked down a bottle and found one of my now favorites. Warm and creamy in the bottle, with a feral note ( musk? I'm guessing). On, it transforms into a soft, creamy goodness, the scent wafting around me like a warm and fuzzy blanket. I don't really get the wine; perhaps that the spiciness peeking its head around. One of my coworkers always says that I smell like her vanilla bathroon plug-in. I don't smell vanilla, but it has a sweetness to it. And on me, this lasts all day. I can still smell it when I come home and as I'm falling asleep. It has definitely aged extremely well. Lesson learned: Always buy feral notes. They work fabulously on me! Autumn is my favorite time of year and I am eagerly awaiting this year's bounty. And if you don't want your bottle, PM me!

Oh my, where have you been all my life? Sniffing from the bottle, I smell a wonderful aroma of warmth and sweetness. Maybe vanilla? I don't really get the floral, per se, but floral to me is rose, honeysuckle, lilac and such. As the oil dries, I am not able to pick out any individual notes, probably because I am not familar with linden blossom and can't remember what passion flower smells like. The scent stays true on my skin, just like out of the bottle. Nice, I think, and I can't stop smelling myself. It wafts around me like incense, always right under my nose. I put more on, because I am smitten. A few hours later, it is still going strong. Before I go to sleep, I put more on. I dab on my wrists, inside of my elbows and my shoulders. I drift off to sleep in a cloud of sensory delight. When I awaken in the morning, the first thing I do is smell my wrists. And yes, I can still smell my beautiful Cottonmouth; not strongly, but it's still there. There are many scents I adore; they give me peace, comfort, boost my ego, help me to face the day, help me go to sleep, make my car smell wonderful, scent my home and give me attitude. But this is the first time I have reapplied three times in the span of eight hours because I want more. Something in this blend raises me up on high, rings a note somewhere in my memory, taking me to a place of joy. Oh yes, I will have multiples before the Carnaval leaves.

It's hard to believe that I have been wearing Snake Oil for almost two years and never reviewed it. Oh, the shame ! I received an imp; whether it was from the Lab or a swap I do not remember, but I am thankful for it. Such a warm, enveloping scent. I have never cared for vanilla scents; they always smelled fake, plastic-y and made me sneeze, whether it was from candles, bath or body products. I didn't recognize that there is vanilla in Snake Oil for a long time, until a coworker commented on the cookie scent coming from me. Exotic aromas takes me to far away places. I am transported to a bazaar, with strange food and spices lining the walkway, the vendors calling their wares in a sing-song language I don't understand. Warm winds capture the smells of fruits, meat cooking over open fires and mingle with spices, calling to sample and enjoy the bounty. Ah, Snake Oil, how I love thee. And you love me back, amping all the best parts of you, your scent trailing behind me, calling to those around me, saying, "Come and smell me, for I am fabulous!" And as she ages, Snake Oil only becomes more...more resinous, darker and lovely than before. You cannot have too many bottles in varying stages of aging; one will be perfect for your mood. I am not allowed to wear Snake Oil out with one of my friends. Each time I do, we end up in fascinating (and eerily, strange) conversations with the opposite sex on every subject under the sun. Isn't it amazing what a little bottle of oil can do?

In the imp: sweet Wet: jasmine and honeysuckle As it dries: the orris comes and joins in Dry: just a beautiful scent. The moss and oakmoss must help to keep it very centered. Herbal is a very precise descriptor for Parthenope, with a little ocean thrown in for good measure. This is not a typical scent for me...too floral, too feminine, and yet...I keep reaching for this to test again and again. A wonderful and light scent, perfect for summer and warm weather, stays close to the skin. Another 'come hither' scent for me. Oh so pretty and would be wonderful to use while drifting off in an ocean of dreams.
-
First impression: sweet, but not cloying Wet on skin: sandalwood, a little vanilla Drying: sandalwood, vanilla, bourbon and iris Dry: What a beautiful scent! Soft, feminine, inviting...stays close to the skin. Delicious waves of subtle incense are surrounding me. A very well-blended oil, as I strain to pick out one individual note. I don't know what white amber smells like or what kind of patchouli is in this, but I would love to more. This is not a typical scent for me; I prefer heavier, more masculine and longer lasting smells. But Cytherea has totally captured my imagination and nose; I have already ordered a bottle.

(Mods, I didn't see anything specifically on this. Please move if there is. Thanks!) So who knew he liked the dirt scents? He asked for a scent of a cave. I tried: Defututa Deep in Earth (which smells like rotting oranges mixed with loam to me) Twisted Oak Nocnistsa...was close, but he says it needs clay. I'm looking for something with: dirt, lichen or moss, cold, wet stone, oak or oakmoss, decaying matter, humidity and clay. (This is a Florida cave, btw!) I have The House on the way. I'm thinking I'll have to combine two or more scents to achieve this. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I am soo excited...Inez just arrived! With her own card! Squee! I was most excited to try Inez of all the Grindhouse Women. I love amber. So without further ado... In the bottle...yes, amber, just an undertone of spice. Same scent on the skin...the scent lies close to the skin. So delicious. I want to slather. The myrrh is raising its sleepy little head, just a little. As it dries and warms, I cannot take my nose away from my arm. Just a little spiciness, which must be from the carnation. Just a tad of vanilla musk, so enveloping. A very warm scent. A come-hither scent. You may not smell me from across the room, but as you pass my proximity, you stop and wonder who smells divine? You want to stay close to this scent...warm, inviting and sexual without being overt. As LiberAmoris stated, where the scent ends and you start is difficult to surmise. It is one and the same. I am very glad I purchased this. I have gotten better on choosing which notes work for me. I picked correctly. I love the artwork for Inez. In my mind's eye, she is everything I want to be. Her card reads: Happiness lies neither in vice nor in virtue; but in the manner we appreciate the one and the other, and the choice we make pursuant to our individual organization LiberAmoris, you smell like Nirvana.

I knew this would not replicate the original Hex. That being said, I bought two bottles immediately. I have not been disappointed. In the bottle and wet, it is pine. A green pine, boughs that have been broken by a large passing animal, releasing the scent in the air. As it dries, the smell of a bonfire, but in the distance, gentle swirls of smoke mixing with the pine. As the oil is warmed by my skin. the pine recedes slightly and the musk and/or amber ir released slowly, sensually. The scent produced is very like the description...warm skin heated by the bonfire and the dance, while various herbs and plants are thrown on the fire, releasing their aroma and intent in the air.

My love affair with Snow White 07 started in an unusual way. I bought the soap to give as Yule presents. You know how that goes; one for you, one for me. This was my first soap purchase from the Trading Post. Nice, soft lather, the scent was faint. Just mildly understated. As I continued to use the soap, the scent intrigued me. Of course, by this time all the Yule scents are gone (I'm a hoarder and get to things slowly). So I purchase an imp. I don't know what it is about this scent, I can't quit sniffing it. I use the imp sparingly. Must. Have. More. Now begins the insane search for Snow White. People are hoarding. Outrageous prices on ebay. Finally, a bottle. What? It's not been sold? I am in heaven! I do not know what the notes are in this formula. It is a comfort scent for me. I wear it in my scent locket most days. It is a scent for me and me alone. It is very faint on my skin, but in the locket it is there for me, whenever I need it. It represents purity; it is refreshing and otherwordly. It takes me away to a land of innocence when the world around me is troubled, dirty and vicious. It calms, balances and centers me. A huge ((((hug)))) to my switch witch who so kindly sent me a bottle. I look forward to Yule, in hopes that it will be released again. If not this year, then next. I can wait.

Wet; old books...the smell, almost the feel. Reminiscent of Azariphale, but this is what I wanted Aziraphale to smell like. Just a touch of leather wafting, as is the scent of tobacco, long forgotten, that was left in a drawer but was never rolled into a cigarette. In a drawer made of exquisite wood. Dry; the leather reminds me of the leather in Bachelor's Dog. Just a touch of incense roiling around in the background. Oh my, this is wonderful. Wafts of leather and incense are assuredly pushing this into my new favorite. Close to the skin, I smell wood but oh, the wafts! Deliciously wicked and sinful. Sandalwood incense...not too sweet, but just enough to melt my heart. Oh, to have a man to snuggle up with smelling like this...truely, the scent of a torrid affair. Buggre All This, indeed!

Wet, the Ifrit smells warm and dry and just a little sweet. As it dries, I am taken to the top of a sand dune, the heat rising from the desert, burning my nose. So much heat, it dries the inside of my nose. Dry, it reminds me of shimmery images...not sure if there are really there. Warm, sultry winds surround me...loose clothing flowing in the direction of the wind; in the distance, an oasis, full of spices, calling me to enjoy its fruitfulness. I really love the Gaiman scents. They evoke such vivid imagery. For me, this is a perfect scent to wear when the traditional rainy season arrives. Everything is so wet, damp and moldy...this is perfect to counteract the dreariness. I keep forgetting there is Dragon's Blood in this blend. Normally, Dragon's Blood is too sweet for me. This is the second blend I am able to wear with Dragon's Blood, and for that I am thankful, as Dracaena draco, the tree from where the resin derived, is one of my favorites.

For me, it's The Lion, Coyote and Svadhinaopatika.

Looking for the scent of a cave...
samarablackcat replied to samarablackcat's topic in Recommendations
Djinn smells like a headshop to me, but on the manboy? Hmmm.. I tried Kumari Kandum and Omen, but I got floral. I tend to amp florals, particularly rose (too bad I don't like the smell!) Will try on him over the weekend. And what a great excuse to try Clod and Pebble ( but it was recommended on the forum)! The thing that's funny is I think he was being a smart-ass. And now I have him sniffing, too. If only there was a scent of kerosene, I'd hook him for sure! You guys are the absolute best! -
Looking for the scent of a cave...
samarablackcat replied to samarablackcat's topic in Recommendations
Wow, thanks! I think I have Kumari Kandam, Omen and Shanghai Tunnel. No Ghastly Garden but I think this is an awesome start! For what's it's worth, I've never been in a Florida cave, either, only up in Ohio and Kentucky. You are full of win! -
If you want really bold scents that will make everyones head turn, go with either Djinn or Lucifer Ooh yes, Lucifer. Magnificent Lucifer. I could nuzzle up to a neck that was slathered in Lucifer.

What BPAL would this fictional character wear?
samarablackcat replied to Flowermouth's topic in Recommendations
To me, Indy is all man, a man's man, if you will. Schwarzer Mond Yep, that's what I would want to smell on him. Teh sex. Temple Viper...cuz he hates snakes, lol! A Bachelor's Dog...just because, yum. -
Bless the darkness, this is one phenomenal scent! I just got my partial, and I think the Salons and Retail Salons are some of the most wonderful scents created. I can't describe this except wow. While sniffing the bottle, I chanted, let it smell like this on, let it smell like this one. Only two drops on my wrist, and he is permeating my space in the most unholy of ways. I have already been to the For Sale section, looking for more. I suppose it's the vetiver that I smell close to the skin; not fond of the smell, but the wafts are sheer heaven(lol). When I sniff my wrist, I get a almost burnt rubber smell, but the aura of this scent is something I have been looking for. Mixed with the patchouli, the vetiver palys nicely. It reminds me of Schwarzer Mond in a way...not the scent, per se, but the wafting and the sexiness. As paperrose stated, very animalistic and feral. I am anticipating this having a good throw, so use with caution, amount wise. I don't have a rating system, but this is definitely at the top.

Temple of the Horned God
samarablackcat replied to aidenraine's topic in Temple Blends & Ceremonial Oils
I received Temple: The Horned God from Court. Thanks, Court! I immediately tried this on, as the aroma lured and called to me. This has to be one of the most wonderful scents ever (to me). Soothing, earthy, just a tad of eucalyptus, grounding. It really pumped me up. Wore Hunter's Moon to work, took The Horned God with me, to help enable TearsofAmbrosia (cuz that's what I do best!) After sniffing with her, I put some on. Let me preface the rest by saying work has been very strange this past week; a lot to do, but the work coming through very slowly. Managers delegating work inappropiately. No one wants to take responsibility and coworkers being tossed casually under the proverbial bus. As soon as I put on this oil, amazing things started to happen. I became very manic, high, high, high. I felt assertive, almost aggressive, but not in a mean way. I was really pumped, but I felt as if i were chasing my tail, running in circles, but enjoying it. After going home, I could not unwind. Disorganized, but full of energy. Sexual thoughts scattering in my brain. Could not go to sleep. I forgot to ground. I tried Temple of Deams to go to sleep; I just tossed and turned. IMO, this is a very potent oil. Use with caution. Make sure you ground and/or create a circle. If you are into Sex Magick, I feel this would enhance your ritual. Very effective. The Horned God and myself will be having a Beltane ritual, welcoming him into my life and thanking him for his gifts. -
Created in honor of the Slavic Black God of the Dead. A nighttime god of grief, evil, chaos and woe, he is paralleled by his twin brother Bylebog, god of light, joy, order, and good fortune. A combination of three musks, with splashes of dark myrrh, vetiver and mullein. In the imp: yum, smells good! Almost a citrusy aroma. As it dries, I start to recognize the scent. Where was it? Oh, I know, something that was in Schwarzer Mond? No, wait, it was Scherezade! No, Snake Oil...and King Cobra! My guess was copal, but after reading the ingredients, nope, that wasn't it. I don't know my notes well enough to identify anything specific; I am learning, but this is a slow process. I do know that I adore this scent. I want to give it another go before I commit to a big bottle. But, of all the Norns, Czernborg is my favorite. Take that club and smack me any time, big boy!

In the bottle, Te Po was boozy, yummy, oh I need this drink now! As it dried, I got cherry cola, very fizzy. And as it dried, I got clove, or at least what I recognize as clove. Where did that come from? Dry, all clove. All the time. With a little fizz. Sadly, not for me.
